My 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 ABS Hydraulic Control Unit failed, almost a year after recall NHTSA 24V-896 (manufacturer recall C4B) was issued. This resulted in a loss of ABS capability. I reached out to the closest Dodge dealers and they informed me that a replacement component was not available. As this was a safety concern, and no resolution was available through Dodge, I was forced to complete the re
... pair myself. Interestingly, I had no issue purchasing a Mopar OEM HCU. After replacing the unit, I'm no longer receiving ABS error codes and the truck is functioning normally. After submitting a reimbursement request to FCA for the repair via their website, my request was denied as I didn't use a certified repair facility. I informed them that I had tried but that they informed me that no repair components were available to complete the recall.Read more

The vehicle is a 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR5 that was later traded for a 2025 Tacoma SR5 due to a serious safety defect involving the rear brake lines. The problem is the same one described in Toyota’s recall: the rear brake hoses can be damaged by debris, resulting in brake fluid loss and potential brake failure. The safety risk was significant. The vehicle was used to transport a young child, and
... because the brake lines could fail without warning, the truck could not be safely operated for daily driving. Multiple franchised Toyota dealerships confirmed that they had no remedy parts available for several months and that the repair could not be performed. This left the vehicle without a functional safety repair for an extended period. The manufacturer’s public statements indicated that a fix existed, but dealerships consistently stated the opposite. No alternate transportation, loaner vehicle, or temporary replacement was provided during this period. The defect was not reproducible by driving because of the risk involved, but the safety issue was acknowledged by dealerships who stated that the recall was active and unresolved. The vehicle was effectively unusable for normal safe operation. No warning lights appeared on the dashboard; the hazard is related to the physical brake line design and exposure to debris rather than an electronic sensor. The vehicle was inspected by multiple Toyota dealerships, all of whom confirmed that no repair could be performed at the time. The component was not replaced, repaired, or made safe before the vehicle was traded out of due to the unresolved safety defect. The situation caused substantial safety concerns and financial hardship and appears to reflect a wider problem in remedy availability for this recall.Read more

October 2025----problem with 2017 Chevrolet Colorado WT with 2.5L engine and 6 speed automatic. It has 57,000 miles on it. Original owner--bought new. Then a message appeared saying that there could be a steering issue or a control issue operating the pickup and to take it to the dealer for servi

Vehicle displayed ABS warning light and message to service electronic braking system. Took to Ram dealer August 2025 and vehicle was diagnosed with faulty ABS module. My Mercedes-Benz EQE has an intermittent but dangerous brake failure. When braking lightly and then needing to brake harder, the brake pedal becomes soft and fades, sinking further with almost no increase in braking power. The vehicle continues moving forward even when pressing the pedal harder. I must quickly release the pedal and press it again to regain braking. This creates a serious risk of c

Another dealership (Mercedes Keys European) refused to even inspect the vehicle. A loaner EQE I drove for several days did NOT have this issue, confirming my vehicle’s braking system is not normal. This is a major safety defect, and I am requesting NHTSA to investigate.Read more

Vehicle was operating on the interstate with cruise control activated. Time was approximately 9:15pm. Weather was fair with temperatures in the lower 60's. Speed was approximately 73mph. Without any audible or warning light notifications the engine stalled and all exterior lighting, power assisted braking and steering was lost. The emergency flashers were immediately activated to warn vehicles in
... nearby proximity of our emergency status. I tried to restart the engine(the transmission was showing to be in N)with no success. During the attempt to restart, the exterior lighting was restored. With the path of travel now visible, I was able to slow the vehicle to a safe speed and exit from the roadway onto the shoulder. Upon stopping, the vehicle was placed into P and OnStar was notified of the event. We remained in the vehicle until one of our friends was able to take us home. My truck started acting sluggish like the parking brake was applied while driving. At a traffic light I put the vehicle in park applied and released the parking brake. I put the vehicle back in gear an let off the brake. The vehicle did not move so slightly pressed the accelerator. The vehicle still acted as if the brakes were applied. I could feel the slight movement and torque being applied but
... only slightly lurching. The traffic light turned green so I proceeded up to 45mph. A vehicle in front of me slowed to make a turn. Applied the brakes and nothing happened. I pressed the brake so hard that I lifted myself off the seat. I swerved to miss the vehicle avoiding a collision. Then warnings started popping up; "brake system failure max speed 62mph", "brake system failure max speed 42mph", Brake system failure", service traction control", "service trailer baking system". among others I was too busy to see all of them. I coasted to a stop in a nearby parking lot with visual and audible warnings still going. I shut the vehicle off then restarted it. Some warnings remained like traction control and the engine light. The vehicle appeared to be operating correctly so I drove it to a local dealer. they said there was a code for low voltage in the brake control module but couldn't get me an appointment for over two weeks. I took the vehicle to a regular mechanic who said what I described was impossible. That mechanic kept my truck for the balance of the day but could find nothing wrong. I no longer trust this vehicles brake system. In many scenarios the failure, were it to happen again could be catastrophic.Read more

VIN: [XXX] Vehicle: 2024 Nissan Pathfinder Defect Description: The vehicle is experiencing a critical safety defect in its Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) system, causing unprompted, aggressive application of the rear brakes. Safety Risk: The aggressive, automatic braking occurs without driver input or obstruction, creating an immediate crash risk due to sudden, unpredictable decelerati
... on in traffic. Resulting Damage: This electronic malfunction has caused extreme, rapid, and uneven wear on the rear brake pads (measured at 2mm) while the front pads remain "like new." Manufacturer Response: Both the dealership and Nissan Consumer Affairs refuse to perform a warranty diagnostic on the electronic system. They insist on classifying this safety defect as simple, customer-paid "wear and tear," thereby avoiding the investigation of the underlying electronic malfunction. Request: I request the NHTSA open an investigation into the 2024 Nissan Pathfinder's EBD system for systemic failure resulting in unsafe, unprompted braking events and premature, dangerous brake failure. During a routine inspection at Ron Marhofer Hyundai in Akron, OH on November 22, 2025, the technician reported that both the front and rear brake caliper brackets on my 2024 Hyundai Palisade were “caliper bracket dry.” The inspection sheet also included the following warning from the dealership: “If not replaced, the brake caliper will fail, causing a dangerous condition where either the ve
... hicle will not stop or will pull severely to one side when it does.” This was found on a 17-month-old vehicle with about 33,540 miles. Brake caliper slide pins and brackets should not be completely dry on a vehicle this new unless something was defective in the lubrication, assembly, or materials. The dealership confirmed the condition, provided photos, and gave a repair estimate. I contacted Hyundai Consumer Affairs and the case was escalated several times, but Hyundai ultimately declined to cover the repair, even with the dealer’s written statement that the calipers may fail and the vehicle may not stop. Based on the age of the vehicle, the dealer’s warning, and the nature of the problem, this is a premature brake system defect that creates a real safety risk to me and others on the road.Read more

• What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection? The brake system on my 2024 Ford Bronco Sport failed to respond for approximately 2–3 seconds after I pressed the brake pedal. This occurred immediately after freeing my foot from underneath the gas pedal while cruise control was active. The vehicle is available for inspection. • How was your safety or t
... he safety of others put at risk? The vehicle did not slow down when the brake pedal was fully pressed, causing me to enter an intersection while other vehicles were turning. I had to swerve to avoid a collision, but another vehicle entered my path and a crash occurred. The braking delay directly increased the risk of a serious accident. • Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center? UNKNOWN. I have not yet had a dealership or service center attempt to reproduce or diagnose the issue. • Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance, or others? The accident was documented by police and insurance, but the mechanical issue itself has not yet been inspected for cause. • Were there any warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure? When did they appear? There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the brake failure. The brakes simply did not respond when pressed. • Description of the incident: While traveling northbound on Sterling Ave approaching Truman Rd, the light turned yellow. I attempted to brake, but my foot was caught under the accelerator due to cruise control being engaged. After freeing my foot, I pressed the brake firmly, but the brakes did not respond for approximately 2–3 seconds. I swerved left to avoid turning traffic and sounded my horn. Another vehicle continued its turn and my front passenger quarter panel struck its rear passenger quarter panel at about 15 mph. The brakes only began functioning after the vehicle jerked from evasive steering input.Read more

I am an automotive service technology teacher, retired. The ABS system on this vehicle failed without warning and without any trouble codes. No lights, no codes. The pedal sinks nearly to the floor, but does engage the brakes once the ABS chambers fill with fluid. But, by the time brakes begin to engage, one's heart skips a beat and it actually takes 1/2 second longer for the brakes to actually
... work. If not for my tall stature, I might not be able to reach the distance it takes to get hydraulic pressure. Brakes work, but marginally due to interference with floor. My research indicates this is a relatively common problem with these vehicles. Folks need to be warned! A recall is in order; at the very least a service bulletin and a customer notification. I'll fix it, but I shouldn't need to. I'll save the old unit and ship it if anybody wants to inspect it.Read more

When I am using cruise control, my car will just randomly slam on its breaks. I have taken my car into the dealer multiple times, and they have written it off everytime. I have even filed a case wit
... h Hyundai directly, and they said if they can’t get it to mimic it, then they can’t do anything about it. But it’s so random, sometimes it happens 50 miles from home, other times it’s 300 miles from home. Always willing to let anyone inspect my vehicle to help solve this issue. I’ve been taking it to my dealer for a full year until I found out I needed to come put it here. It’s random, it won’t happen in the same spot twice. But every time it’s done it, there is never a vehicle in front of me. My assumption is there is a defect with the adaptive cruise control. I’ve talked with Hyundai and they claim they’ve never heard of this happening to anyone, yet when I google it, there are MULTIPLE forums with people stating this exact thing is happening to them. SAFETY issue is it slams on the brakes so hard I’ll go from 80 to 65 before I can get the cruise control off. If someone is behind me when it does this, they will slam into me.when I’m dropping 15 mph quickly, that vehicle behind me will hit me like I’m a stopped object. No warning lights before it happens. The vehicle is experiencing symptoms consistent with the brake vacuum pump failure described in GM Special Coverage Adjustment N182202780, which applies to full-size GM SUVs in this model range. The symptoms include a hard brake pedal upon startup, reduced brake assist, increased stopping distance, and audible vacuum or mechanical cycling noise when the vehicle powers on. This malfunction affects
... the vehicle’s braking performance and requires significantly increased pedal force, especially during initial operation or low-speed braking. This results in delayed braking response and reduced stopping capability, creating a safety hazard to occupants and others on the roadway. Although the symptoms match the defect described in the bulletin and the vehicle is within the published 10-year/150,000-mile coverage parameters, multiple authorized dealerships and GM corporate have refused to perform a diagnostic or repair because the VIN does not appear in their internal eligibility system. GM Customer Care case number 82474826 documents these interactions. No diagnostic evaluation has occurred because the manufacturer and dealers declined to perform one unless the VIN is pre-flagged, regardless of symptoms. No warning lights or dashboard alerts accompanied the failure. The condition began gradually and has become more noticeable over time. I am concerned that other vehicles experiencing the same defect may also be excluded from inspection or repair due to VIN list limitations, despite meeting the published program criteria.Read more

While driving at approximately 50 mph, my truck suddenly shut off without warning. I lost engine power, power brakes, and power steering. I was only able to stop safely because I happened to be traveling uphill. This created a serious safety hazard. The failure was caused by the crankshaft tone ring issue addressed in the existing recall. The tone ring has already been replaced, but the recall re
... quires a dealer-performed ECM software update to complete the repair and ensure the vehicle is safe to operate. The dealership is refusing to perform the recall software update because my truck has an aftermarket exhaust and a modified EGR valve. These modifications are unrelated to the recall. The recall only involves an ECM software update, and my ECM is completely stock. Because of this refusal, I cannot safely drive my truck. I am concerned that the engine may shut off again at higher speeds, creating a severe risk of an accident. I am requesting assistance to ensure the recall is completed so the vehicle can be operated safely.Read more

My vehicle has 1,500 miles on it. Last time I drove it from work back home was Friday 11/21 and nothing was wrong. Got back in the car Sunday 11/23 and my engine light was blinking and all kinds of warnings were displaying such as engine, break, and steering problems. My wife and I noticed the car vibrating a lot and I had to drive 20mph. If not the car felt like it was going to shut down.

There has been several occasions where I am coming up to a corner or to a stop light and when I brake and, there is an area of 'washboard' or pot holes, the brakes stop working. In low temperature conditions. Typically under 50 degrees Fahrenheit, the brakes will produce a high pitch grind/squeal noise. It’s a very concerning voice. Dealership says it’s normal, but there is no way it can be.

I am experiencing an issue with my brakes. When I am at a red light and I brake, I find my brakes start to descend. So it's brake, then the brake moves a bit down towards the floor. Then it moves down a bit more. I am still able to brake but I find that the brake pedal moves down a few times while I am sitting at a red light. I am greatly concerned.

My car didn't stop when I was parking. I went over the sidewalk and I hit the tree on the driver side passenger door. The tree and sidewalk slowed me down enough where I missed the head on collision with the building in front of me. I took pictures and reported it to my insurance.
