My ABS system light is on. The Toyota mechanic has determined that it is due to Nitrogen gas from a component of the brake booster pump assembly could leak into the brake fluid. As nitrogen is released into the brake fluid, the brake pedal may have reduced hydraulic pressure. Under certain circumstances, this condition could affect stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash. Toyota recal

Went over railroad tracks approaching intersection approximately 40 feet from tracks. Tapped brakes while going over tracks (light was red) and anti-lock brake system kicked in. I was suddenly unable to stop the vehicle as the brakes were not working and I was continuing to lurch forward toward the intersection at approximately 10 mph. The brakes continued to fail for approximately 1 - 1.5 seconds
... before I let off and slammed down on them as hard as I could and finally slammed to a stop. My car at this point, had gone slightly into the intersection, but not enough to get clipped by a car. Had I not let off the brake and re-hit it with force, I fear I would have continued to roll into the intersection where I would have gotten T-boned by traffic. There were no warning lights or lamps that kicked on when this happened but the steering wheel and brake were vibrating. This is a newer vehicle - less than a year from purchase, but I plan on taking it to the dealership to look at.Read more

The ABS lights and other brake-related lights are on. Took it to the local dealer and they said the ABS module is bad and needs replaced and they do not have any in stock and do not know when they will have it back in stock. I'm having to drive with no ABS and no cruise control. I feel I am putting myself and others at risk.
Incident date: Apr 2, 2025
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module on my 2015 Jeep Wrangler failed at approximately 100,000 miles, causing a complete loss of ABS functionality. The component remains installed in the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. This failure significantly impacted my safety and the safety of others, as it compromised braking performance, making the vehicle more difficult to control
... during sudden stops or slippery road conditions. Without ABS, there was an increased risk of skidding, longer stopping distances, and potential collisions, particularly in emergency braking situations or adverse weather conditions. Additionally, my cruise control is no longer operable due to this issue, further impacting the vehicle's drivability. The problem was diagnosed and confirmed by Suncoast Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, which identified the ABS module failure as the cause and provided a repair estimate for replacement. While the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives, the dealership's diagnosis serves as confirmation of the defect. At approximately 100,000 miles, the ABS warning light, traction control light, and brake light all illuminated on the dashboard simultaneously, signaling a system-wide failure. Since then, these warning lights have remained illuminated, indicating an ongoing issue with the vehicle’s braking and stability systems. The failure immediately coincided with a noticeable decline in braking performance and the loss of cruise control functionality. No other warning messages or alerts appeared before the failure. After researching this issue, I have found that this is a very common problem affecting numerous Jeep owners with models from 2007 to the present (JK and JKU models). Many owners have reported similar ABS module failures, leading to the loss of ABS, traction control, and cruise control.Read more

As I was pulling my car into a parking space with the brake applied lightly, the car suddenly lost braking and lurched forward when the front wheels touched the curb. This caused the front of the car to jump the curb and hit a tree a foot or two away. My foot was on the brake during this and the car did not brake automatically, or engage any other sort of safety measure. This was terrifying and
... I could have easily hit a pedestrian or injured myself and the passengers of my vehicle on impact. I completely lost control of the vehicle's braking due to this issue. Since the incident happened today, my vehicle has not yet been inspected. No warning lamps of any kind had been activated. The car was nearly brand new. Upon further investigation, there are numerous reports of similar events happening to Toyota hybrids over the years. A simple google search for this turns up many reports. These reports center around sudden loss of braking from the regenerative braking system and a "lag" before conventional braking is applied that causes the forward lurch due to the momentum of the car. Many others on online forums seem to also suggest running into this issue specifically when the wheels hit a bump. This sounds exactly like what happened to my car, causing it to lose control despite my having the brake applied. It is insane that such a problem has existed for years in the braking system without being fixed by Toyota.Read more

I am reporting multiple serious issues with my 2016 Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.0, which has only 30,000 miles. Despite the low mileage, the vehicle is experiencing major safety and quality problems. The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) light stays on constantly, indicating a system failure. On startup, the car sometimes applies the brakes by itself, and there’s a loud noise like something is stuc
... k or grinding. The traction control light also comes on during this. While driving, the car will suddenly slow down on its own, even when I’m not braking. When I press the gas pedal, it barely responds or takes too long to accelerate. Sometimes, this happens at the same time as the ESC warning, which feels extremely unsafe — especially on highways or in traffic. The push-to-start button often delays before the engine turns over, which is abnormal. The A/C system only blows warm air, regardless of temperature settings, and no cold air comes out. I also have a serious issue with the paint peeling off in large chunks from the body of the car. It’s happening despite proper care, and I’ve seen other Hyundai Sonatas of the same year with the same issue, which suggests a widespread paint defect. These issues have not yet been diagnosed by a dealership, but given the low mileage and frequency, I believe this model may have serious defects in safety systems and paint quality. I’m very concerned for my safety and request a full investigation.Read more

Addition to Case #[XXX] Hi: Read the following response from Chevrolet Care at the end of this Email about my braking problem. Take Note That Chevrolet is Admitting that in a case like mine (wet, slippery snow conditions) I only have Basically Two Wheel Braking and those two wheels (tires) are sliding during the complete stop. This happens when driving in town (20 -25 mph) The rear wheels as Che
... vrolet says have a drag effect, (basically no braking) Chevrolet has created a crash Hazard with this over engineered braking system when used in wet slippery snow conditions. Thank You [XXX] See Enail from Chevrolet Cares Hello [XXX], Thank you for your patience and for providing this information. We received an update from your dealership, Bergstrom Chevrolet Of Manitowoc, who advised the following: The system is functioning as normal. Brake pad thickness was measured at 8mm on all 4 wheels. The ABS system doesn't activate on all 4 wheels unless there is a total loss of traction across all four wheels which would indicate a total loss of control. With two wheels activating and the rear wheels still spinning is allowing for the retention of control by allowing for braking to the rear wheels but at a lesser degree to create stability and drag (braking) to maintain control and steering capabilities during the loss of traction at the front end. The ABS system does allow for the adjustment of braking power to specific wheels in an effort to maintain proper traction and steering prior to the emergency systems engaging in the event of a slide. The dealership is our eyes and ears on the ground, and I will stand by their judgement. However, if you feel strongly against the dealership's judgement, it is to your discretion on what dealership you would like to work with. Please note, this does not guarantee a different resolution. Brake squack/barking noise when brakes are depressed.
Incident date: Jan 28, 2025
A few weeks after purchasing my car, my brakes started to squeak. I went to the dealership to get them fixed and they told me that they didn’t see anything wrong with the brakes. All they did was clean the brakes because they said they weren’t ready to be replaced. This did not fix the issue and my brakes started to squeak again that same day. I went to the dealership again a couple months a
... go for the same issue. I showed the lady a video of what my brakes sound like while I’m driving to showcase how irregular the squeaking sounds. I was told that the squeaking is normal and that there is no fix for them. She told me that Volkswagen hasn’t been able to find a pad that fits properly which causes the squeaking to occur. My breaks were replaced that same day and the squeaking occurred again as I was driving out of the dealership. Paying thousands of dollars for my car just for it to squeak disturbingly loud and for there to be no fix for it just a few weeks after purchasing it and still two years later, is absolutely frustrating and unacceptable. I expect a vehicle of this quality and price to perform without persistent, unresolved issues—especially concerning safety-related components like brakes. At this point, I would like to escalate the matter. I believe Volkswagen should take responsibility for this defect, whether through a permanent fix, a recall, or another solution. What are my options for further action? Should I contact Volkswagen corporate, file a complaint with a consumer protection agency, or explore legal options under the Lemon Law?Read more
