Yesterday, as I do a couple times a month, I went to switch parking places, putting my 2021 Toyota Highlander where my 2007 Mazda was parked, in order to drive it and keep the battery from dying. After starting both cars I first moved the Mazda to make room for the Toyota. As I was slowly steering the Toyota at (idle speed) into the now vacant parking spot, the car accelerated on it's own, promp
... ting me to hit the brakes, but to no avail. The car jumped the curb hitting, knocking over and and damaging a large ceramic planter and small tree in my neighbor's yard. My split second reaction upon having no brakes and a run away car was to push it out of drive, which ended up putting the car into reverse, causing a harsh jolt, followed by the car accelerating again on it's own, in reverse towards another neighbor's garage. I live in a condo complex, so all of this took place within about 30 feet of forward/backward/forward motion. My second split second decision (with no brakes) to avoid smashing into the garage was throwing it back into drive, which sent it accelerating back towards the parking place again. This time I had the presence of mind to push the power button on the dash, allowing me to barely come to stop before jumping the curb again. Whole thing lasted about 15 seconds. I had an appointment to attend, so after a brief conversation explaining to my (now outside) neighbor what happened, I left in the older car. Returning later in the day I found damage to the front of my Toyota and wonder if my transmission is damaged as well. I'm reimbursing my neighbor today. I've not attempted to drive the Toyota since, and am seeking your advice on how best to proceed, whether I should initiate contact with Toyota regarding this incident, or is that something you should initiate? Please advise. Thank you.Read more

The right rear axle shaft assembly wheel bearing seal failed. The right rear ABS Sensor, aka (rotational Speed Sensor, wheel speed sensor) failed. These parts are available for inspection. The vehicle unexpectedly accelerated without me pressing the accelerator as I approached a red light at an intersection, putting my safety and others at risk. I had to slam on the brakes with all my might to get
... the vehicle to stop from going through the intersection. The road was wet, and the front wheels locked while the rear wheels continued to be driven by the engine without any input from the accelerator pedal. Eventually, the vehicle stopped, and the engine acceleration went back to normal operation. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. The vehicle and parts have been inspected by me, as the vehicle owner. The warning lamps suddenly illuminated on the instrument panel just prior to the incident. The warning lamps came on as I was approaching the intersection. The warning lamps that came on were the engine diagnostic indicator lamp aka Malfunction indicator lamp, the Anti-lock brake system warning light, the brake assist system warning light, the electronic stability program warning light. I also hear what sounded like the ABS Control Unit rapidly cycling just prior to the uncontrolled acceleration while nearing the intersection. I used diagnostic equipment and performed a visual inspection of the components, concluding that they needed replacement. Grease from the leaking right rear wheel bearing seal fouled the right rear wheel speed sensor. The wheel speed sensor cable develops cracks near the wheel hub. I believe these parts are defective and can cause erratic, uncontrollable, unsafe driving risks that could lead to accidents and injuries. The symptoms and warning indications went away after the parts were replaced. I still have these parts as I feel they should be inspected by NHTSA personnel to make a safety recall.Read more

We have had brake problems since we bought car which I can prove that we’ve had to change our brakes every almost every 3 to 6 months that is the front brakes. I also replaced the back brake six months ago. I replaced the car with two sets of tires that are supposed to last for 60,000 miles. I have only put 54,682 miles on my car. My husband works four minutes away. I used to drive my car back-and-forth to work and that was 45 minutes one way For about a year, but other than that we have not drove the car except for a few times maybe three hours away for vacation we’ve also changed the spark plugs. This will be the second time we changed the serpentine belt. We’ve changed the air filter multiple times which we’re supposed to do that Spark plugs shouldn’t have to be changed until 100,000 miles. I’m wondering why now I’m having trouble steering the car and while it’s shaking while it’s idling and idling rough, so we’ve done everything that we’re supposed to do dealership is no help at all. This issue is a direct result of a faulty brake hose that they said collapsed. There are other trucks that have recalls for the same failure. Why is mine not covered under a recall with the safety issue that has developed? I need these parts covered as well as all the parts that have to be replaced due to the faulty hose. Prior to the incident (vehicle crash), immediately after the vehicle was purchased (March 2023), it was taken back to the dealership several times due to a slight noise and sensation the wheels and brakes were making. The issue was internment, and the dealership insisted they were unable to replicate the issue. It felt as if the wheels were momentarily locking when slowing down to apply the brakes
... . We thought it was a brake issue, but the dealership assured us the brakes were ok. Due to the ongoing issue with the interment, we decided to purchase new tires that were the recommended size for the vehicle, rather than the original tires it Recently (on 09/5/2024), we upgraded the wheels and tires to wider OEM spec wheels in an effort to improve the vehicle's efficiency during driving and braking. On May 25, 2025, after a vehicle brake-checked the vehicle in front of our Camaro, the Camaro was unable to adequately perform the brake operation due to wheel lockup, resulting in an accident. While the vehicle in front of our Camaro managed to maneuver out of the way, the Camaro's wheels locked when decreasing speed to apply the brakes. When brakes were applied despite only traveling at 37-40 mph, the Camaro felt like it was not slowing down, as if the brakes were not working correctly. Forcing a maneuver to the left side, scraping and damaging the front and rear wheels/tires, and impacting the rear end of a 2021 Chevrolet Spark. The Camaro suffered substantial damage exceeding 19,000, and our son, the driver, sustained physical injuries. Unfortunately, we were NOT notified of the recall # N242480630, until June 2 2025 many days after the accident. We received the notification via the OnStar service we pay for, and a few days after via the Progressive Insurance app. A police report was filed, my son was ticketed for failing to control the vehicle, and the insurance deemed it an at-fault accident (due to being a rear-end collision). The vehicle has been deemed a total loss.Read more

My 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid has a braking issue identified in Toyota Service Bulletin T-SB-0059-23, Hybrid Regenerative Brake Transition Feeling Improvement. When going downhill and applying the brake, the vehicle lurches forward temporarily as the braking system transitions from regenerative to hydraulic braking. The first time my vehicle did this, it was very alarming and I had to take add
... itional measures to slow my vehicle as I was driving downhill. My vehicle frequently demonstrates this problem, however, I did not report it to my local Toyota dealer because I read in an online chat group that it was a characteristic of this vehicle. Although the TSB recommends a Reprogram of the Brake Actuator Assembly Control Module, the repair is only covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty which is in effect for 36 months or 36k miles, whichever occurs first. My vehicle is past the warranty limit, and because I did not report it to my dealer previously, this repair is not covered under the TSB or the Toyota Basic Warranty. Toyota Highlander Hybrid model years 2020-2022 are affected. The Technical Service Bulletin was issued August 29, 2023, so if a 2020 model Highlander Hybrid has this problem, 2020 models would have already passed the warranty limit by the time the TSB was issued and thus would not be covered. This is a safety risk as drivers can lose control of the vehicle when braking, particularly when going downhill. The Warranty should be extended, or this problem should be elevated to a RECALL so that older affected vehicles, or those with higher mileage can be covered under warranty. Drivers should not have to pay for a recognized problem that affects the safety of this vehicle and has been identified in a Technical Service Bulletin. This problem puts drivers at risk of losing control of the vehicle and the problem can be mediated with a software reprogram. T-SB-0059.23 should be elevated to a RECALL, or extended regardless of age or mileage.Read more

On [XXX] I went to start the car and received warnings about Manual Braking being engaged and to contact roadside service along with other notifications and the car wouldn't power on. After numerous attempts the car powered up and alerted me Drive Carefully Fault. I began to drive slowly through a parking lot and it took over 200 lbs of pressure to bring the car to a complete slow stop. I pulle
... d over and turned off the car. I tried rebooting the car and did so assuming it was a bug in the system. When the car powered back up the flaw had vanished and I carefully drove home. A short time later when I turned the car on I followed the instructions and called roadside service and described my situation. To my surprise, roadside service had never heard of the problem before. I then contacted Rusnak BMW service center and talked them through what was happening. Once again I was surprised to learn that they too had never heard of the problem. I brought the car into Rusnak BMW on May 30th. Over the course of the next week and a half I was never given any concrete news about why the car had acted that way. In fact I was told that they had to elevate the situation to NEW JERSEY where the higher ups would review the situation. No concrete information was provided other than they drove the car for 11 miles and felt comfortable having me pickup the car. Admittedly, it was frustrating to be called to pickup my car not knowing why there was a problem with the braking system and being given no assurances it wouldn't happen again. I am the owner of a Toyota FJ Cruiser (Year:2007), VIN: [XXX] ]) equipped with the TRD High-Performance Brake Kit, which is under recall campaign C0R / NHTSA 12E046. I recently experienced a serious safety issue involving the front TRD brake crossover tube. While driving, I suddenly noticed a soft brake pedal and significant loss of braking power. I was unable to stop the vehicle properly and ne
... arly crashed into another car at an intersection. I had to swerve at the last moment, which could have caused a more serious accident. Upon inspection, I found that brake fluid was leaking from the crossover tube—exactly the defect described in the TRD brake recall. This failure happened without warning, and my safety and the safety of others was clearly at risk. This is unacceptable for a safety recall. I am requesting immediate investigation, assistance, and a permanent solution. Toyota must ensure this part is properly redesigned and replaced, and that no vehicle is left on the road with this faulty setup. Brakes squeal when backing up in the mornings and occasionally going forward. Maunufacturer is aware of the problem, but until recently would only allow dealers to order 1 repair kit per week. Now the manufacturer is allowing 4 kits per week to be ordered. This problem appears to affect 2/3s of all vehicles sold. Repair parts are taking 4 to 6 months to get. On Monday, I was departing from the supermarket parking lot. As I was waiting at the stop sign to exit the parking lot, my 2020 Nissan Leaf SV vehicle shuttered and there was a blinking notification on the dashboard stating: TM System Malfunction EPedal Failure Suddenly my ability to stop the vehicle was compromised. I turned onto the surface street and continued to pump the brakes with no respon
... se. I turned back into the supermarket parking lot and continued to pump the brakes but there was no engagement. I slowly drove around the parking lot trying to stop with no success. I eventually had to turn on the emergency brake and then force the vehicle into park. It was a very scary scenario. I called the dealership to explain the situation and the service advisor suggested that I have the vehicle towed to the dealership for a diagnostic evaluation. After sitting in the car for 30 minutes with it turned off, I turned it back on and drove the vehicle on surface streets to the dealership with no breaking incident. The next day, the service department performed a diagnostic inspection and determined that the 12 volt battery was the cause and needed to be replaced. I was relieved that this was the issue. The technician kept the vehicle one more day to drive it and be sure it was operational. In the end, I purchased a new battery. I am writing your organization to report this incident to try to avoid any injuries or deaths in the future. This incident happened to me without any warning and could have been very dangerous if I was at a busy intersection or on the freeway. There was no warning on the dashboard about the battery or maintenance warning to see the dealer. This needs to researched with Nissan Motor Company. While towing our camper, the trailer brakes constantly turn off and on. I have now experienced multiple instances where the vehicle suddenly brakes on its own while driving at normal speeds, without any obstruction or hazard ahead. This is not only unacceptable — it's extremely dangerous, putting both myself and other drivers at risk of serious injury. Despite bringing the vehicle in twice to the dealership, the issue persists. I continue to receive dashboard malfun
... ction alerts, and the automatic braking problem has not been resolved. Each time, I am left without a vehicle, impacting my ability to work. I did not purchase a $100k+ vehicle to live in fear of sudden, unpredictable, and life-threatening malfunctions. Today, while driving, the vehicle completely shut off in motion, creating a highly dangerous situation. This follows multiple previous incidents where the car automatically braked without cause and displayed repeated malfunction notifications on the dashboard. I have brought the car to the dealership twice, and yet the problem persists. This is not only unacceptable — it's an imminent risk to my safety and the safety of others on the road. The fact that a brand-new luxury vehicle with this price tag continues to experience such serious failures is beyond frustrating — it is life-threatening.Read more
