ABS module for 2014-2016 Ram 1500 5.7l is (and has been) on ‘indefinite back order’. I researched and found that I am far from unique when it comes to this assembly. The ABS module failure also causes issues with traction control. Due to lack of parts, and high cost of repair, I was concerned with the safety of this truck. Over the last week, I was forced to trade in the truck.

I am reporting a serious safety concern involving my 2021 Chevrolet Blazer, which experienced brake failure while driving, without any warning lights or diagnostic alerts from the vehicle’s onboard system. This created a highly dangerous situation for myself and others on the road. Prior to this incident, I brought the vehicle to the dealership after consistently hearing squealing or screeching
... noises when braking. The issue was dismissed and attributed to a change in federal regulations limiting the use of copper in brake pads—without any further inspection. This resulted in a missed opportunity to diagnose what appears to be a deeper mechanical failure. After the brake failure, service technicians discovered that the vacuum pump had failed, which impacted braking performance and also caused engine damage. While I’ve since learned that GM has acknowledged vacuum pump failures in several vehicles manufactured between 2014–2018 (via formal recalls), the 2021 Chevy Blazer is not currently included in those campaigns However, the symptoms and outcome I experienced are strikingly similar to the documented defects in older GM models. The lack of early diagnostic detection, coupled with dealership dismissal of clear warning signs, signals a potential emerging safety defect in this newer model that may not yet be officially recognized. Given the safety-critical nature of the braking system and the failure of both mechanical and procedural safeguards, I strongly urge NHTSA to investigate whether this issue is more widespread in recent GM models, including the 2021 Blazer. Other consumers may be at risk without knowing it.Read more

While driving my 2015 Toyota Prius, the brake pedal became extremely stiff and hard to press. I was on the way to the dog park with my dog in the back seat when I had to press down very hard just to slow the car at a traffic light. It felt like I was stepping on a rock. The brakes barely engaged, and I had to use far more force than normal to get the car to stop in time. When I hit the brakes, th
... ey finally caught hard and suddenly and my dog went flying off the back seat and landed on the floor. She’s fine physically, but now she’s terrified of getting in the car at all. It was scary for both of us and felt totally unsafe. If I had been going just a little faster or if someone was walking across that intersection, it could’ve ended badly. I later found out this issue is tied to a known defect with the brake booster and accumulator system, specifically related to code C1391. Toyota even acknowledged this problem in a Customer Support Program (CSP ZJB/ZKK), but they refuse to help because my car is slightly over the mileage limit. That doesn’t change the fact that this is a serious, dangerous failure that affects the driver’s ability to stop safely. Toyota should be forced to take responsibility for this failure before someone gets seriously hurt.Read more

My car started experiencing a strange problem while braking on June 15. I released the parking brake leaving my parents driveway. I coasted backwards (as usual), and when I pressed the brake the car didn't stop as expected and the brake pedal was very hard to press. It eventually stopped. I put into park, then put the emergency brake on, then released all and tried again and encountered the same i
... ssue, that it was very very slow to stop and the brake pedal was hard to push in. I got home, parked the car - tested the reverse brake on flat surface and didn't notice the issue. The next day, the problem started happening with the front brake as well and an error code popped up that said 'check brake assist' which I've never seen before. I brought it to my local mechanic, who took a look and said that it's a vacuum pump failure, and the result is a lot of metal shards were released into the engine when the vacuum pump failed. My mechanic recommended I take to a GMC dealer for further evaluation. I looked up the recall on this issue, and see that it impacts a lot cars, including the 2017 GMC terrain, but not my 2018 GMC terrain. I am going to take it to the GMC dealer but I'm afraid I won't be able to afford the repair, and it doesn't seem like there was anything I could have done to prevent this from happening.Read more

I have a 2015 Ram 1500, the ABS module was diagnosed in June 2024 as needing to be replaced by a Dodge dealership. With this issue, my ABS does not work, and the traction control has been disabled by this issue also. At this time, the part is still unavailable for ordering. There is a recall on newer models of this vehicle that are having the same issue.

I am writing regarding a serious issue with my 2024 Audi Q5, which I purchased brand new and have owned for only 12 months. The vehicle has developed premature rotor wear, which is entirely unexpected given its age, my normal driving habits, and Audi’s reputation for quality. Brake rotors should not require replacement this early unless there is a manufacturing or material defect. This vehicl
... e is still under warranty, and I am requesting that Audi inspect the braking system immediately and cover the cost of any necessary repairs under warranty. Please document the inspection findings and let me know if there is a known issue or Technical Service Bulletin related to this. I am not willing to pay for a component failure that is clearly not due to driver misuse or wear and tear. I expect a prompt resolution and would appreciate a written response confirming next steps. Possible Causes (Not Your Fault) Defective Rotors or Materials – If the metal quality was subpar or warped at the factory, they could wear prematurely. Improper Factory Installation or Torque – Incorrect installation can cause uneven wear or damage. Caliper or Pad Malfunction – Sticking calipers or bad pads can ruin rotors prematurely. Electronic Brake Malfunction – Audi’s advanced braking systems (ABS, brake hold, etc.) can malfunction and overuse the brakes.Read more

The automatic emergency braking system in my vehicle has repeatedly activated without any visible reason. Vehicle started and behaved as expected when leaving my home and for a dozen lights or so between my home and place of the incident. While stopped at a red light, the auto stop function shut the truck down as normal. On re-start when getting green light, after releasing brake pressure, the start up was belabored for two turnovers before starting up. As I pulled off the stop with a green light, the
... dash lights illuminated and display started rolling through system failures, one of which was the brakes system and ESC. I cautiously proceeded through my turn to a thankfully quiet intersection as the brakes were completely unresponsive. I had ZERO brake function. I was able to slowly come to a rolling stop enough to get the truck in park where I turned it off and back on and the brake function returned. I cautiously drove to the local chevy dealer where I was informed that the battery drain pulls from low voltage when it needs extra power for start up. This is utterly terrifying that it is even possible for the battery to start the truck WITHOUT ANY BRAKE FUNCTION. Had this happened just two lights before or after where I was, it would have been a news headline. I could have easily been headed up and over a bridge leading to a catastrophic event at the bottom where I would have been completely unable to stop my truck by any means other than a collision. I would have preferred a dead battery at a red light. Seems a whole lot safer. I'm now stressed beyond measure at the thought of some failure in the future that could lead to another event such as this. My truck is now a nightmare wondering what electrical malfunction is going to put me and/or my wife and daughter in a life or death situation, let alone others on the road. This shouldn't even be an option for the truck to start at the expense of a critical safety function. Not to mention there is no function for the auto start stop system to be deactivated permanently by my choice. I am beside myself and scared to drive.Read more

Just got off the Interstate on to a frontage road when I received a low brake fluid light warning. Instantly lost braking power. Was traveling approximately 40mph downhill toward a traffic light where cross traffic was going full speed. I had to activate my emergency brake to stop from running into the cross traffic. Got the truck into a gas station, checked the brake fluid reservoir & it was belo
... w the minimum fill line. Purchased brake fluid at the gas station, filled it up & drove and the parking lot. The brakes partially worked, but the reservoir drained quickly again. I was lucky that there was a brake service repair shop within a quarter of a mile, so I refilled the brake fluid to the max & drove slowly with hazards on to the shop & left it there. Today they told me it was a brake master cylinder internal failure that caused brake fluid to leak into brake booster resulting in loss of braking power. While my truck is not covered under an existing recall, there is a recall for this exact issue for the same make & model of my vehicle (but with a different motor). That is NHTSA recall # 25V-236. I believe this recall should apply to my truck.Read more

The closest local shop thought most of the internal braking system related to the pump and actuator would need to be replaced but requested I get an opinion from Toyota. At drop off I had requested they top off the brake fluid, despite their informing me that was never necessary. Perhaps this repressurized the system because upon visiting the car all dash lights were off and the brakes felt normalish. The shop did not know why. This is my only transportation. At 9:30 in the AM 6/14/25 I proceeded to the closest Toyota dealership w the safest direct route slowly with hazard lights and lots of space from other cars. While waiting for diagnosis I discovered this exact issue was a known defect and had been the subject of a class action lawsuit and customer service bulletin of which i had no notice. Since 2022/2023 the car had been briefly and consistently losing traction over minor bumpy conditions. Without notice of the issue I had no way to know this was a precursor to Total brake failure. This car was serviced at 3 Toyota dealerships during the extended warranty authorized by the CSB. I was never apprised of the potential issue, and expressly requested a list of recalls related to my vehicle at Lumberton Toyota in 2022 which they refused to provide. The delayed or unpredictable response could easily lead to an accident in high-traffic areas, intersections, or when making turns. Yes. The issue has been observed multiple times. The check engine light has returned even after replacing the O2 sensors, and a trusted mechanic believes the problem may be transmission-related. However, the Kia dealership claims there are no active recalls tied to my VIN, even though publicly available information lists powertrain- and fluid pump-related recalls for my vehicle's year and model. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by Kia corporate. I reached out to the local dealer, who denied any applicable recall. I am submitting this complaint in hopes of an official review and inspection by the manufacturer or NHTSA to determine if the issue qualifies for safety recall intervention. Yes. The check engine light first appeared months ago, which led to replacement of the O2 sensors. Shortly after the replacement, the light returned, and the car began jerking while trying to drive or accelerate from a stop. These symptoms have persisted and appear to be worsening.Read more

On several occasions, FCW activated unexpectedly in low risk situations (in driveway, pulling into neighborhood) May 2024 & Nov 2024. While driving 60MHP on a 4 lane highway during rush hour on May 19, FCW activated unexpectedly; immediately taking me down to 20MHP. The “BRAKE” warning and beeping remained with the brakes activated for 30-60 seconds. I was unable to accelerate. Vehicles beh
... ind me had to swerve to avoid impact. As I was pulling off the highway immediately following, FCW activated again and I was nearly rear-ended. There were no vehicles in front of me for a least a mile during these incidents. Vehicle has been inspected by 3 separate certified Jeep mechanic. All claim they cannot identify an issue with the vehicle as there are no active codes in the system. The dealer has not been able to reproduce the concern. It appears to happen every couple thousand miles. My safety and my family’s safety and other drivers are at risk if this vehicle remains on the road unfixed. The sudden braking could cause a major accident. Jeep refuses to address the issue. The dealer insists nothing is wrong because the issue is not found.Read more

Brakes on the 4Runner are extremely loud when backing up braking. Drivers tend to avoid hitting the brakes properly to avoid the loud noise. Not using the brakes properly due to an abnomal loud noise is a safety hazard.

There have been several instances--at least a dozen--where I will apply the brakes over a bump, pothole, or steep driveway and the car will skid. It's exactly how it feels when ABS activates when a car brakes on an icy road. The brake will disengage then re-engage, delaying the overall stop time. The skid feeling when the brake releases is unnerving and, again, delays the stopping time. Luckily I
... have not been close enough to the car in front of me and no collisions have occurred. It has happened often enough that I can often anticipate when it will occur (like over a bump), and I allow myself more time to brake. However, one can't predict when you need an emergency stop and it's scary to think my car could possibly not stop in time. I will issue a complaint to the dealer, as well. This issue has not been inspected by anyone yet but I plan to have our dealer look at it. No warning lights on the dash have come on during any of the times the skidding has occurred.Read more

This truck only has 35,000 miles on it , so it's a baby! All of a sudden I get a warning light that says there is a problem with my anti lock breaking system. In the 10 years I have had this truck I have never even had the anti lock breaking system engage! The Ford dealership where I bought the truck said I had a DTC C1288. The DTC C1288 on a Ford F150 indicates a brake pressure transducer circu
... it failure. Specifically, it means the ABS module has detected a problem with the transducer, possibly due to a short or open circuit, where the pressure reading is too high when other inputs suggest a non-pressurized system. This often results in the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) light remaining illuminated. They said if I didn't pay them $3400 parts and labor, my breaks would stop working. This is crazy. The ABS system has never engaged yet they say it's broken. This is very dangerous. Most people don't have $3400 to flush down the toilet like I did. I should not have to pay for this repair. Ford should. The part was defective from day 1. Please help me.Read more
