Vehicle suffered a catastrophic drivetrain lock-up while traveling at approximately 25 mph. The rear wheels physically halted, creating an immediate loss of control and safety hazard. Upon inspection, the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) was found to have a failed pinion bearing/internal gear failure, resulting in dual fluid leaks. This is a REMEDY FAILURE related to Safety Recall 23S55 (NHTSA Campaign #23V
... 675000). The vehicle underwent the 23S55 recall repair 90 days prior (Jan 2026). The internal failure is a direct consequence of latent fatigue and stress placed on the RDU pinion and housing due to the defective axle mounting bolts and subframe bushings addressed in the recall. Furthermore, the vehicle is within the coverage window of Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 24N01 (10-year/150,000-mile extension for Rear Axle Bolt and Housing). The dealer (Hertrich Ford) and Ford Corporate Case Management (ASO Case #XXX) have refused to authorize an Administrative Rental or acknowledge the related damage, leaving the owner in a hazardous financial and logistical situation. I am reporting this as a failure of the federal safety remedy to adequately protect the vehicle’s drivetrain from consequential damage. I purchased the vehicle brand new (VW Taos 2022) and have maintained it properly. At approximately 60,000 miles—just outside the warranty period—the vehicle developed a serious transmission issue. While driving, I received a warning stating “Transmission in emergency mode” followed by a check engine light. The vehicle then entered limp mode, limiting shifting to manual gears (M2–M4) and
... eventually becoming stuck in M2. An authorized Volkswagen dealership diagnosed the issue as a mechatronic failure and quoted approximately $2,000 for repair. I contacted Volkswagen Customer Care to request goodwill assistance, as this represents a premature failure of a major drivetrain component. Given the relatively low mileage, the known issues associated with early model-year Taos vehicles, and the safety implications of the vehicle entering limp mode during operation, I believe this repair should not fall entirely on the consumer.Read more

I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding my 2021 Kia Sorento and the repeated lack of resolution from the dealership where the vehicle was purchased and serviced. I have taken my vehicle to the dealership multiple times to address ongoing and serious safety concerns. Despite having active warranties on the transmission and powertrain, I have continually been told that there is nothing t
... hey can do, and my concerns have not been properly addressed. The vehicle is experiencing persistent issues, including: The transmission jerking and jarring when shifting gears The dashboard and center display screen intermittently go completely black while driving These issues do not occur constantly, but they happen frequently enough to pose a significant safety risk. I regularly have my grandchildren in the vehicle, and their safety, as well as my own, is my highest priority. Each time I have contacted the dealership to report these problems, I have been met with excuses and resistance to even scheduling an appointment. Due to the lack of cooperation, I felt I had no choice but to drop off my vehicle on April 13, 2026, without an appointment in order to have it addressed. I am extremely disappointed in the level of service and treatment I have received. As a loyal customer—this being my third vehicle purchased from the same dealership—I have never experienced this type of disregard. I also feel that I have not been treated fairly and, at times, have been dismissed in a way that is concerning and unacceptable. I am requesting the following: A full and thorough diagnostic of my vehicle, specifically addressing the transmission and electrical issues Proper repair under warranty Clear communication regarding findings and next steps Immediate attention to these safety concerns I purchased this vehicle with the expectation of reliability and safety. At this time, I do not feel safe driving it, and I am requesting that Kia take this matter seriouslyRead more

My 2024 Ford Ranger XLT 2W has been suddenly losing power or stumbling upon initial acceleration. This has been occurring intermittently. My truck now has approximately 20,000 miles. I have taken my truck to a local dealer who attempted to diagnose the problem and they didn’t offer a solution since they were unable to reproduce the problem during their road test. It has happened many times since then and I am scheduled to return the vehicle to the same dealership to attempt to diagnose and fix the problem again soon. On my 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom, I began noticing an issue around 79,000 miles where the vehicle did not come to a complete stop as smoothly as expected. Initially, I suspected the brakes, as I purchased the truck new and had not performed any brake maintenance up to that point. I scheduled an appointment with the dealership to have all four brakes replaced; however, upon inspection, I
... was advised that the brakes were still in good condition, with approximately 90% life remaining. I then completed a test drive with the shop foreman, who was able to replicate the concern to some extent and suggested that the issue may be related to the transmission. At this time, the dealership is in the process of disassembling the transmission to determine whether the issue can be resolved with a repair or if a full replacement is necessary. It is concerning that such a significant issue would arise at approximately 80,000 miles. Based on similar reports I have reviewed, this appears to be a relatively common concern within the 80,000–90,000 mile range. Additionally, this poses a serious safety concern, as the vehicle’s hesitation in coming to a complete stop nearly resulted in a rear-end collision while en route to the dealership. There have been no dash lights on.Read more

I am reporting a safety issue involving my 2018 Kia Niro hybrid related to the Hydraulic Clutch Actuator (HCA), which is currently subject to a recall addressing fire risk. My vehicle has already had the recall remedy performed, which consisted of inspection and installation of a lower-amperage fuse. The dealer confirmed that the actuator is leaking fluid but did not replace it because there was
... no evidence of PCB contamination, which is the condition required under the recall. However, the vehicle is now experiencing significant drivability issues that create a safety hazard: Intermittent hesitation when accelerating from a stop Failure to properly engage the transmission, especially on inclines Engine revving without corresponding vehicle movement Delayed or inconsistent clutch engagement In one recent instance, the vehicle would not properly engage while attempting to move from a stopped position on an uphill incline, creating a hazardous situation where the vehicle could not reliably move when needed. This condition appears to be caused by loss of hydraulic pressure due to the leaking actuator, even though it has not yet reached the stage of PCB contamination described in the recall. The current recall remedy does not address this failure mode. Instead, it allows a known defective component to remain in service until it reaches a condition that presents a fire risk. In the meantime, the vehicle can experience loss of propulsion under normal driving conditions. I believe this represents a separate safety defect or an incomplete remedy, as loss of propulsion, especially during acceleration from a stop or on an incline, can significantly increase the risk of a crash. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the current recall adequately addresses all safety risks associated with the defective Hydraulic Clutch Actuator, including drivability and loss-of-propulsion conditions that occur prior to PCB contamination.Read more

Component: Front differential / xDrive drivetrain system. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Description: My 2020 BMW M340i xDrive has exhibited a persistent whining noise from the front drivetrain since approximately 38,000 miles. The noise varies with speed and load and appears to originate from the front differential. A BMW dealership inspected the vehicle and acknowledged the n
... oise but declined repair under warranty. This condition is consistent with premature wear of internal differential components such as gears or bearings, or improper lubrication. Differentials should not produce whining noises at this mileage, indicating a potential defect. Safety Risk: The front differential is critical to torque distribution in the all wheel drive system. Progressive failure could result in drivetrain binding, uneven torque delivery, or loss of AWD functionality. In a worst case scenario, partial or full differential seizure could occur, leading to sudden resistance, instability, or loss of control. These risks are heightened at highway speeds or in low traction conditions such as rain or snow. The vehicle provides no warning lights or messages despite the abnormal condition, meaning failure could occur without advance notice. Inspection: Issue confirmed by BMW dealership. No repair or corrective action performed. Warnings/Symptoms: No warning lights or system messages. Only symptom is a persistent whining noise from the front drivetrain. Additional Information: I am aware of similar complaints from other BMW xDrive owners reporting drivetrain whining, grinding, and vibration, suggesting a broader pattern of premature differential wear.Read more

On December 28, 2025, while driving normally with my children, my 2024 Chevrolet Trax displayed multiple warnings including Engine Power Reduced, Service ESC, Service Stability, and Steering Assist Reduced. The engine began sputtering and knocking. The next morning the vehicle would not start and was towed to Malcolm Cunningham Chevrolet. The dealership found the engine free-wheeling with no com
... pression and denied my warranty claim alleging spark plug tampering. I never touched the engine. It went directly from my driveway to the dealership via tow. An active recall — A242435780, Engine Spark Timing Following Auto Stop Event — was noted on the repair order upon arrival but was not completed until February 17, 2026, seven weeks after the engine failed. GM’s own recall states engine knock and engine damage are the known risks of this unrepaired fault. The dealership told me verbally it was just a console update, directly contradicting GM’s published description. A second dealership performed a compression test showing Cylinder 1 at 10 PSI, Cylinder 2 at 90 PSI, and Cylinder 3 at 0 PSI. Normal compression is 150 to 200 PSI. No diagnostic codes were retrievable. This dealership initially found something different but reversed their position after speaking with the first dealership and receiving direction from GM. GM denied my warranty claim and offered only a $2,000 incentive toward a new vehicle. The vehicle remains completely unrepaired. I continue making monthly payments on a car I cannot drive. I am reporting a safety-related failure involving a 2022 Volkswagen Taos (AWD) with approximately 48,000 miles. While operating the vehicle under normal driving conditions, the vehicle entered “transmission emergency mode” without warning. At that point, the vehicle experienced a significant loss of functionality, downshifting to D1 and including the complete loss of reverse gear. This create
... d a hazardous situation, as I was unable to maneuver the vehicle safely on the highway and in confined or urban environments. The issue was intermittent at first but became persistent, resulting in the vehicle being effectively unsafe to operate. The inability to engage reverse presents a clear safety risk, particularly in situations requiring immediate maneuverability (e.g., parking, avoiding obstacles, or exiting traffic situations). The vehicle was taken to an authorized Volkswagen dealership, where it was diagnosed with an internal transmission failure. The diagnostic fault code provided was P176F00 (K2 clutch out of tolerance due to internal wear). The dealer indicated that the appropriate repair is a full transmission replacement, with an estimated cost of approximately $8,400. Despite the relatively low mileage and the severity of the failure, Volkswagen has declined to provide assistance, citing that the vehicle is just outside of the warranty period. The vehicle has been out of service now for 10 days with no resolution provided. This failure appears to be premature for a major drivetrain component and raises concerns about potential defects affecting the safety and reliability of this vehicle model. The sudden loss of reverse and entry into emergency mode without warning creates a potentially dangerous condition for drivers and others on the road. I am submitting this complaint to document the issue and to request investigation into whether this represents a broader safety-related defect in the vehicle.Read more

I am reporting a serious safety issue involving a 2015 Ford Focus equipped with the PowerShift transmission. The vehicle has been repaired at least three times for the same issue, yet the failure continues. While driving at highway speeds (approximately 65–70
... mph), the transmission failed without warning. The vehicle lost power and was unable to properly shift gears, creating an immediate safety hazard. I was forced to navigate traffic with limited acceleration and was left stranded. This condition significantly increases the risk of a crash, especially when merging, accelerating, or maintaining speed in traffic. The failure occurs unpredictably and without sufficient warning. This issue is not isolated. The 2012–2016 Ford Focus models equipped with the PowerShift transmission have a well-documented history of similar failures, including prior complaints and manufacturer acknowledgment of defects. Despite multiple repair attempts, the defect has not been resolved, and the vehicle remains unsafe to operate. I am requesting that this issue be investigated as a safety defect, as it poses a serious risk to drivers and others on the road. Complete drivetrain failure while accelerating from a complete stop in the middle of a busy intersection. No warning lights or hazard messages were activated before or after the failure. My children were in the car with me, and we had just driven on the highway for 45 mi
... nutes before this failure. Luckily, my husband was behind me, and I activated hazards until I could pull over safely. It was jerking and clunking so badly that I was barely able to steer. It was terrifying since my two young children were in the car, and they were both screaming from the noise. I believe I would have been rear-ended if my husband had not been behind me due to the sudden jerk from the failure, as I was the first car in the left turn lane. This is not the first issue I have had with the transfer case in this vehicle. The affected transfer case and drive train were replaced only 7 months prior due to a faulty transfer case and a severe clunking sound. This vehicle has had repeated drivetrain failures without warning, resulting in loss of traction and control. The recent failure reflects a completely stripped spline connecting the transfer case and transmission. This will be the 4th transfer case this vehicle has had at only 64K miles. All recommended maintenance and care have been completed at the certified Acura dealership since the vehicle was purchased. Recently, the 60K services were completed just 3 months prior to the current failure. The vehicle is currently at the dealership for repairs under warranty, as it needs a new transmission and another transfer case. Historically, the truck throws error codes routinely and we have spent several thousand dollars trouble shooting the communication issues, also without resolution. We live in Wisconsin and were on vacation near Los Angeles, CA and had to transport it back home, leaving our RV in storage in California. However, on the 2024 model I own now, the assist does NOT release when I press the accelerator, it only does so after two seconds. I can press the accelerator all I want, but the car won't move until two seconds have passed. This may seem minor, but if you're in a situation where a vehicle is coming and you need to react quickly, two seconds may be the difference between continuing safely or colliding with another vehicle. Plus, the assist activates based on the grade of the hill and there's no indication when it's active, so I don't always know when I have to wait two seconds and when I can just go. If the car isn't going to behave as-described and as I expect it to then it's unsafe. I purchased this car out-of-state and, since the assist doesn't function work how the manual says it should or like it does on other vehicles that feature it, it also led to me stalling the car multiple times during the drive home and a few times since then. This happened because I was pressing the accelerator while releasing the clutch but the car wouldn't move. I was really confused by the behavior and slightly panicked with a string of cars behind me. If nothing else, Volkswagen should issue an addendum to the description in the manual, but I still believe it's unsafe as-is. There are dozens (probably hundreds) of complaints about this behavior in various forums, subreddits, Facebook groups, and so on.Read more

The powertrain control system has detected one of the transmission clutches did not apply within the expected time as expected. It has resulted in delayed and harsh shifts to another gear and sometimes does not. Circumstances include jerking, hesitation and complete failures unpredictably (sudden loss of power), which has created unsafe driving conditions that happened when accelerating or merging
... into traffic. This issue is consistent with complaints reported by other owners, as well. Nothing has been address by Ford Lincoln to address this unsafe issue. This is a serious safety risk. There is no recall or TSB to date. Invoice is $6500 to repair. This same issue is being reported by many according to a Lincoln fb group and a search on the internet, as well. I have reported the issue to their Customer Service line and to the Lincoln app. I am requesting that this issue be investigated for manufacturer action with complete and all dollar reimbursements, including tow charges. While customer service reps are taking the issue to document my complaint, there is nothing to resolve the expensive and unsafe condition being sought by them.Read more

At approximately 35,900 miles, vehicle failed a block test indicating combustion gases in the cooling system. Cylinder head gasket was replaced, cylinder head was machined, and exhaust valves were replaced at an independent shop at a cost of over $5,000. Shortly after, at approximately 36,300 miles, vehicle was towed in with sudden loss of power and would not accelerate. Diagnostic codes P1064 (cy
... linder 4 oil supply solenoid stuck), P0171 (fuel system lean), and P0304 (cylinder misfire) were found. The MultiAir/VVT actuator was confirmed to have an internal failure. Both the independent shop and a Jeep dealership parts department confirmed the component was on indefinite national backorder due to high demand caused by widespread failures of this part. At approximately 37,500 miles, vehicle failed a second block test. The cylinder head was found warped again and required a second full replacement along with motor mount replacement. The vehicle has had its cylinder head replaced twice in under seven months. Total out-of-pocket repair costs exceed $8,000. The sudden loss of power while driving created an unsafe condition. The failure has been confirmed and documented by both an independent repair facility and an authorized Jeep dealership. Check engine light was present prior to each failure event.Read more

The issue first began in February 2026, when the vehicle started showing signs of engine malfunction and poor performance, which ultimately led to a full engine replacement by an authorized Nissan dealership. After the engine replacement, the vehicle continued to experience serious and recurring drivability issues. On multiple occasions, including March 16–17, 2026, and most recently on April 1
... 1, 2026, the vehicle failed to accelerate properly even when the gas pedal was fully pressed. The vehicle would move extremely slowly and felt as if it was stuck in a low gear, with loud engine noise and lack of power. This created a significant safety hazard, as I was unable to accelerate normally in traffic, increasing the risk of being rear-ended or unable to safely merge or cross intersections. Additional symptoms included: •Engine shaking while idling •Intermittent loss of power and poor throttle response •Transmission not shifting properly •A/C blowing warm air at idle but cold while driving •A diagnostic issue indicating loss of communication with a control module (VCR/module) The problem is intermittent and unpredictable, making it difficult to demonstrate on demand, but it has occurred multiple times in real driving conditions. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by an authorized Nissan dealership, including technicians and a shop foreman. The dealership has stated they were sometimes unable to reproduce the issue and have attempted repairs such as performing an idle relearn, but the problem persists. Despite major repairs, including a full engine replacement, the vehicle continues to experience dangerous loss of acceleration and drivability issues, posing an ongoing safety risk. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.Read more

The 2025 Hyundai Hybrid Santa Fe SEL has experienced two instances (Nov 2025, 11k miles & Apr 2026, 14k miles) where the combustion engine fails to provide power to the vehicle’s wheels. The engine continues to run, but only enough to maintain a charge to the hybrid battery system. When accelerating to speeds above 30 miles per hour or when traveling up inclines, the combustion engine’s rotati
... ons per minute (rpm) spiked, however the vehicle’s power-train still rapidly lost power and the hybrid battery drained significant charge. During one instance in November 2025, while attempting to accelerate to 55 mph up an incline, the hybrid battery drained enough that the vehicle was required to be pulled off the road to allow the battery to charge. During the April 2026 event, while containing a family of four (including to young children under six years of age), the vehicle failed to accelerate to 60 mph up an incline on an interstate freeway bridge. The vehicle rapidly slowed to between 20 and 30 mph, putting the family in grave danger from high-speed collisions. Following both instances, the on-board diagnostics computer was reset, “resolving the issue” and the Hyundai technicians elected to make no further repairs or replacements. The onboard diagnostics code P0191 was reported following the April 2026 event, however no codes or errors were identified by the Hyundai technician following the November 2025 event. No additional follow-up was performed, even though the vehicle remained under the manufacturer’s warranty.Read more
