In January 2025, Covert Ford [XXX] ) performed a federally mandated PCM recall repair via their mobile service unit. Immediately upon completion, my check engine light (CEL) cam e on. Prior to this service, the vehicle had zero warning lights, fault codes, or symptoms of any kind. The CEL appeared directly and exclusively following the recall work. The timeline is unambiguous. In March 2025, I re
... turned to Covert Ford to have the recall-related fault addressed. Rather than reviewing their own recall work, the dealership charged me a diagnostic fee upfront, followed by additional labor charges, resulting in a bill exceeding $1,100. No diagnostic data, scan results, or technical documentation was ever provided to support their findings. The fault was never resolved. An improperly performed recall can suppress additional fault codes within the vehicle's OBD system, leaving the driver unaware of developing powertrain or safety-critical issues. I operated the vehicle with an active, unresolved CEL for approximately three months — a condition caused entirely by the recall service itself. A federally mandated recall is a manufacturer's commitment to repair a defect at no cost to the consumer. When that repair introduces a new fault and the consumer is billed over $1,100 to diagnose it, the recall process has fundamentally failed. My vehicle has an open PTU recall and when driving down the road my vehicle completely lost power was unable to drive or put vehicle in park in the middle of a turn which resulted in on coming traffic coming towards my vehicle. There were no injuries thankfully. My car was towed to the Jeep dealership in Anchorage, AK to have the PTU recall done as that was the suspected reasoning of the failure.
... After weeks of back and forth I was told the transmission was damaged and needed replaced and the PTU recall was not able to be done due to the recall instructions. I was quoted 8-12 thousand dollars in repairs which was unrealistic to me. I then had vehicle towed to an auto body shop that could replace the transmission for a lesser price. Once at the auto shop they discovered there was a complete PTU failure which caused the transmission damage and told me to take it back to the dealership for repairs to be covered under the recall. The dealership submitted the information and I was denied the recall and repairs. The dealership informed me I would have to pay for a new transmission out of pocket. However once I had the new transmission testing the PTU recall could damage and that I also need to pay out of pocket for the PTU. This has been extremely frustrating and given the pictures and evidence submitted for PTU failure causing the transmission failure and still being denied I find it absolutely appropriate to submit a claimRead more

Upon picking my vehicle up from the Gerald Jones Auto Group Dealership April 2026 and heading out of town I noticed that the vehicle was driving a lot rougher than I'd expected especially after an entire month of having the vehicle to repair completely, of course, I canceled my trip and immediately called the dealership and explained my concerns regarding the feel of the roughness of the vehicle & that I was not comfortable because I hadn't experienced this before. I was asked to bring it back. After waiting for the recheck I was informed that there was a hose disconnected in the rear afterwards I was advised to call the dealership with any other problems. I started home noticed that there was still a slight skipping or hesitation around the 15-50mp range I called & got voice mail & I left a detailed message about problems. I had to run an errand, on the way home as I moved onto the busy interstate the vehicle really started skipping & hesitating much worse than before & a noisy fan sound coming from the mid right side dash area that hadn't been there! I called the dealership back as instructed & left another message. I waited an entire day no one returned my call. I called again on the next day was told to bring the car in again a 2rd time. The 3rd time car was checked there I was informed it was a transmission issue not part of Recall the cost of repair would be totally my responsibility according to Manager, which is not fair!Read more

The issue is a dangerous hesitation during low-speed rolling acceleration. In real-world driving, when I slow down but do not come to a full stop — such as when merging, changing lanes, entering traffic, crossing an intersection, or rolling through a turn — the gasoline engine can shut off while the truck is still moving. When I then press the accelerator to re-enter traffic or move quickly ou
... t of the way, there is a noticeable delay before meaningful propulsion is delivered. This hesitation is not a minor comfort issue. It creates a real safety risk.In a small hybrid passenger car, electric-only rolling behavior may be acceptable because the electric motor can often move the vehicle adequately on its own. But this is a full-size half-ton pickup. In my experience, the electric motor alone does not always provide sufficient immediate response for the weight and use case of the vehicle. The result is a dangerous dead zone where the driver is asking for acceleration, the vehicle is rolling, traffic conditions are changing, and the truck does not respond quickly enough. If a Toyota hybrid half-ton pickup is moving, the gasoline engine should not shut down in a way that prevents immediate acceleration when the driver presses the accelerator. This behavior has created multiple close calls for me. The most concerning scenario is a rolling slowdown followed by the need for immediate acceleration — for example, pulling into traffic, changing lanes, or clearing an intersection. In those moments, a 2–4 second delay is not merely annoying. It can be the difference between safely completing a maneuver and being exposed to a collision.Read more

Between that incident and 4/29/26 I went thru 9 gallons of coolant, replaced the sparkplugs, put the front end up and "burp' the system as there was constantly air bubbles being introduced from a source I could not find. I had the hoses and clamps inspected, replaced the coolant reservoir and the reservoir cap, the vehicle started to shutter upon starting even after it was warmed up and every day needed to be burped and topped off before and after driving in town but often had no coolant loss during freeway driving, finally 4/28/26 I noticed smoke from the exhaust when I started the car in the morning and that smoke was accompanied by a foul, burnt, electric smell. While burping the air and topping the coolant that morning, the engine sputtered and died 2 separate times. I decided that it was time for a cooling system diagnostics as I still could still see no evidence of an external leak. The Ford technician recorded this tech story. "The vehicle ran rough and smoked for a couple seconds after starting.the vehicle ran its self test and had p0316, b0303, p1299, and p0217. Vehicle Component Failure Description: The electronic gear shifter intermittently shifts into neutral without the driver pressing the release button or applying the brake, and can also slide back into drive without button engagement. This has occurred multiple times since service on 08/27/2025 and continues to occur. The issue has been demonstrated to dealership personnel, who confirmed they cou
... ld replicate the condition but stated it is “normal.” Two separate dealerships (Suncoast Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Dayton Andrews Dodge) 3x both acknowledged the behavior and classified it as normal operation. Safety Risk: On 04/30/2026, while pulling from a center median on Gulf to Bay right before Bayside Bridge into traffic (vehicles traveling approximately 45 MPH), the vehicle unexpectedly shifted into neutral without warning. The vehicle lost power and would not accelerate, creating an immediate hazard. I was forced to veer back into the median and narrowly avoided colliding with an arrow board trailer. This condition creates a serious risk of collision, especially in traffic, intersections, or highway conditions, as the vehicle can unexpectedly lose propulsion without any driver input. Inspection / Reproduction: -Issue has been reproduced by dealership personnel -Dealerships claim the condition is “normal” -Manufacturer (Chrysler) has been contacted and a case opened -Vehicle is under warranty (~18,200 miles) Warnings / Symptoms: -No warning lights or alerts prior to shifting into neutral -Occurs without pressing the shifter button or brake pedal Additional Information: Dealership personnel advised to “make sure nothing touches the shifter while driving,” indicating the system may be overly sensitive or defective. This is not a reasonable or safe expectation for normal vehicle operation. If this behavior is considered “normal,” it represents a design or safety defect, as unintended shifting into neutral while in motion creates a high risk of crash or injury.Read more

Replaced the actuator, drove about 50 miles, light comes back on. Finally get my appointment with dealer and they say my turbo is bad, they want $8k to fix. I ordered the turbo and replaced it myself along with another actuator, test drove. Light still comes on but have not lost power yet?? Dealer is not helping. This is a major issue that is all over the internet! The truck just goes to limp and your in the middle of traffic. If this has not caused an accident it’s only a matter of time before it does. The dealer ship just wants to replace big parts for lots of money. I’m already $2500 into this and still having an issueRead more

While traveling South on [XXX] toward [XXX] , the vehicle suffered a sudden and catastrophic internal failure of the CVT transmission. This resulted in an immediate and dangerous loss of motive power while in motion on a busy roadway. My husband (who was driving at the time) was forced to manually push the vehicle off the road with the assistance of a police officer to avoid a collision. A subse
... quent diagnosis at a local shop (Hot Rod Scott's LLC) who removed the transmission fluid in order to refill it and found the transmission had fallen apart. He did not return the old fluid and returned the plate of the transmission with all the pieces in the bottom and an authorized Toyota dealership in Chippewa Falls confirmed the transmission failed internally. This is a widely documented manufacturing defect in 2018–2022 C-HR models (K114 CVT). Toyota has acknowledged a bearing defect in other markets, such as Canada, by extending the warranty to 10 years/193,000 km, yet US consumers are being denied similar protection for the same defective part. This failure presents an unreasonable safety risk due to the unpredictable loss of propulsion in traffic. I am requesting a formal investigation into this systemic defect. The primary failure is the engine assembly and turbocharger, specifically caused by the failure of the oil pump drive belt and tensioner system (subject of Safety Recall 23S64 / NHTSA 23V-905). Despite an attempted recall "remedy" on August 25, 2025, the engine suffered internal oil starvation due to belt debris (rubber fibers) remaining in the oil passages. The dealership has confirmed in writing
... that the turbocharger failed and the engine requires a "long block replacement" due to "debris in the oil passages" and a "clogged turbo oil feed filter." The vehicle is currently held at dealership, and the failed components are available for inspection. The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of motive power while in operation, a condition specifically cited in the safety risk section of Recall 23S64. This loss of power occurred during acceleration, creating an immediate risk of a rear-end collision or being stranded in active traffic. Additionally, per the recall notice, this failure path can lead to a loss of the mechanical vacuum pump, which provides power braking assist. A sudden increase in braking effort combined with a stalled engine significantly increases the risk of a crash. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership. On January 5, 2026, the service department diagnosed a failed turbocharger then on April 17th 2026, the service department diagnosed the problem to be a internal engine debris clogging oil feed lines. They verified the engine has oil pressure at the pump but is failing to deliver oil to critical components (turbo/upper block) due to contamination from the defective belt system. The vehicle has been inspected by the authorized Ford manufacturer representative at the dealership. I have also escalated the case to Ford Customer Relationship Center, though they have yet to provide a $0-cost safety remedy as required by federal law.
