We started experiencing slight transmission shifting issues in early-mid 2024. More issues in December 2024/January 2025 - this time it was really hard and jerky shifting. It was sporadic at this time, but it was often. My wife and I have 7 children. This vehicle is usually driven by my wife to pick up kids from school, run errands, etc. At the beginning of March 2025, my wife was merging onto the
... highway, but it didn't want to shift. She stated that a big rig was coming behind her and the van was not shifting and picking up speed. She said the engine was revving but just was not shifting up. She said the big rig honked and had to change lanes or else he would have hit her and my kids. Several seconds after the big rig passed was when the transmission hard shifted and jerked and it began to pick up more speed, but from that point on, the transmission was not operating properly. We have not driven it since March 2025. I have been saving up to fix the transmission, but I read so many other Ford owners have the same issue with this particular transmission. The Ford dealer confirmed it had a TSB on this exact issue and that many other 10r80 transmissions were doing the same. The issue was reproduced by the Ford dealer. It states the CDF issue in the invoice. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the experience merging on to the highway. I reached out to a local independent mechanic and he upgrades the parts in these Ford transmissions all the time - proving it is a very common issue. This is a huge safety risk for anyone operating or riding in a Ford with this transmission.Read more

Upon returning home, vehicle would not exceed 60mph from its own power, engine light and engine malfunction light came on, and vehicle would slow to unsafe speeds on the interstate when trying to overcome hills. I called the service department and notified them of this and they told me to drive the vehicle over 50 miles back to the dealership at speeds not safe for highway travel. They diagnosed that the turbo that they just installed went out again. I also received a letter that Hallmark Nissan would pay off the car note the day I picked up the vehicle. I was driving eastbound on city streets at 30 mph with my three young children when the vehicle exhibited abnormal shifting behavior, searching for a gear. Despite being in 9th gear, traveling the speed limit, and lightly pressing the pedal, the vehicle experienced a rough downshift and lost power while going up a small incline over a freeway overpass. I turned on my hazards and attempted to move
... over to avoid an accident, which I successfully did. The vehicle regained power after restarting with rough shifts in the lower gears. I put the vehicle in manual mode to better control the shifting, though it remained incredibly rough. The kids were shaken and refuse to drive in the vehicle. Since then, I’ve only driven it to have it serviced at our local Ford dealer. They stated everything was fine after the transmission fluid exchange and battery replacement. However, the vehicle still exhibited rough shifting behavior on the short drive home. A friend pulled codes from the TCM/ECU and found P0734-00, P07F7-00, and P2535-00. He assisted, backed up the ECU/TCM, re-flashed the onboard ECU/TCM with the latest mappings, and reset the adaptive learning. He then drove the vehicle with diagnostics equipment connected and recorded the driving data, finding that the transmission was losing pressure and the shift behavior was slightly better but still rough shifts between 2-4 and 7-8 gear. Once the drive/test was completed, codes P0761 and P2702 appeared on the reader. He explained that the issues pointed to a CDF drum defect, which has several TSB’s published. He advised me to stop driving it and reach out to the dealer or local qualified shop. I was quoted between $7,677-$8,978 to replace trans with reman unit. Vehicle has been maintained with all records on file and is in nearly perfect condition with exception of the transmission due to the CDF defect. I would love to see action taken to prevent injury/death as I could see that occurring at some point.Read more

In June 2024, my 2019 Ford Expedition experienced serious transmission and powertrain problems. The vehicle also displayed repeated “Service Engine Soon” and “Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power” warnings. Because the vehicle became undrivable a
... nd the repair costs were unaffordable, I was forced to release it to auction in June 2024, resulting in a significant financial loss. In April 2025, Ford issued Recall 24E13 acknowledging that PCM programming errors could falsely trigger catalyst efficiency codes (such as P0430), potentially leading to unnecessary catalytic converter replacements, exactly the condition my vehicle experienced. This recall defect directly contributed to the loss I suffered, as I still owed about $11,000 on the vehicle when I could no longer use it. I have already opened a case with Ford (Case #CXH05645573C2W6R6), but I have not received meaningful assistance. When I contacted Ford Customer Service, I was not offered escalation or resolution. I was only told to call another phone number, which left my case unresolved. Dear NHTSA, I am writing to formally report a critical safety issue involving our 2020 Ford Explorer that I believe demands immediate investigation and consideration for a recall. While my wife was driving the vehicle on the freeway with our two young children, the transmission began shifting erratically and aggressively at various speeds. The vehicle experienced sudden power loss, delayed gear en
... gagement, and violent jerking motions that nearly resulted in a rear-end collision due to the abrupt deceleration. This malfunction placed my family and others on the road in immediate danger. This is not an isolated incident. I am aware that there is already a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) issued for this transmission issue, as well as an active class action lawsuit related to the same defect. These facts indicate that Ford is aware of the problem, yet the risk to consumers remains unaddressed through a formal recall. This is a serious safety hazard that must be escalated. I am urging your team to take immediate action to investigate this matter and initiate a recall if warranted. The safety of families like mine should not be compromised by known mechanical failures. Please confirm receipt of this message and advise on the next steps for inspection, documentation, and escalation. I am prepared to provide additional details, including service records and diagnostic reports, if needed. I trust that Ford and the appropriate regulatory bodies will act swiftly and responsibly to protect consumers and uphold safety standards.Read more

Dash message "Stop safely vehicle will shut off soon" included a red exclamation mark in the middle with a red triangle and a turtle in the bottom right. A yellow reduced speed type indicator in the top right and a check engine light all at the same time. Also a chime sounded. This occured in town moving around 35 mph. Dealer stated this exact VIN had already received a rebuilt trans around 50k
... miles from another dealer. Took dealer 2+ months to repair, and had to call many many times to encourage them to push to get it completed. Manufacturer seemed to delay sending parts because they can - no good reason provided. First Power Inverter Module (PIM) was replaced, but that did not resolve the issue. Then dealer rebuilt entire transmission. Dealer lead tech stated that a roller bearing near the bottom of the trans appeared to have start failing, which then causes a short and or some kind of damage with the electrical "phasers". Multiple conversations with lead technician and Chrysler cares indicate clearly that Chrysler is NOT investigating the issue deeply (they did not want any of the failed components, nor did they ask for details from dealer - are they even trying to resolve root cause.... this has been occurring since the earliest models). Chrysler should have a financial incentive to fix to remediate warranty repairs. Why can't chat GPT find literally anything on the web about the root cause, why is it nothing other than reports of the issue can be found??? Nobody has done a root cause analysis. Is Chrysler paying to minimize bad press??? If Chrysler replaced entire trans with rebuilt one at 50k and now it failed again at 80k - when can I expect it to fail a third time?Read more
