These symptoms could have easily caused loss of power or unexpected shifting at highway speeds or during traffic maneuvers, putting myself, my passengers, and others on the road in danger. Sudden power loss or gear malfunction in such situations could lead to an accident or loss of control. The repair process also left me without a vehicle for over three weeks, creating significant inconvenience and hardship. Given the high repair cost, the time without transportation, and the well-documented pattern of similar failures among this model, I believe this issue points to a defect in the transmission’s design or manufacturing. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this matter further to determine whether a recall or manufacturer reimbursement should be issued for affected owners. It was kept overnight and two diagnostics were performed (they charged me for two diagnostics). I was driving around with it with the symptoms thinking it was other things. I brought it in when it got worse. It has been at the dealership for a whole week. I went online to check the whole situation out and found out that FORD is very aware of this design problem. It’s the same problem that they’ve been aware of for years. Upon looking into this, I looked into the NHTSA and also the FCA for recalls on a 2021. I found that that my 2021 would have been recalled for recall number ZD8. I don’t know why they didn’t did not add my VIN number to it, but I am requesting that it be investigated to help me get this covered under warranty. This suggests an underlying electrical drain or short, which could increase the risk of electrical fire or vehicle failure while driving. These malfunctions create significant safety concerns, as the vehicle may roll backward when stopped on an incline and could pose a fire risk due to the known recall. The car has not been safe to drive. The closest Mini dealership (Flow Mini of Raleigh - about 2 hours away) confirmed that the recall is open but refused to provide or authorize a tow, even after I explained that the vehicle could not be safely driven to their location about 2 hours away. The problem has been ongoing for several years, worsening over time. Warning messages appear intermittently but frequently, especially during start-up or when stopped on slopes. Mini USA has not inspected or repaired the vehicle, and their representatives have stated they will not assist with transport to the dealership despite the known recall risk. I called MINI USA directly, and recorded the whole ordeal. I was forwarded to 5 different departments, and the last person stated that because my car is out of warranty that there’s nothing they can do to help me - that any tow I opt for would have to be out-of-pocket. I was in the middle of explaining to her that my car has these very specific warnings and issues associated with this recall that is solely the fault of Mini, and she hung up on me.Read more

On 10/3 driving at roughly 60mph on the freeway, when going to accelerate, the vehicle would not accelerate with no power going to the engine. The gas motor was not engaging, and the car rapidly decelerated to around 20mph in an incredibly unsafe situation. Coasting it off the freeway, it was towed to the local Kia dealership. As I left the dealership, the vehicle did not engage the gas engine and quickly avoided acceleration - no power was going to the engine. The battery reached a catastrophic low, and the engine failed in a busy intersection - creating another extremely unsafe situation - as I was turning around to return to the dealership.
