I found that he ignition key can be removed from my 2017 Kia Sorento while the transmission is not in the Park position. This is a shift interlock failure. Under FMVSS 114, the key must be trapped in the ignition unless the transmission is confirmed in Park. The transmission in my 2022 GMC Savana experiences severe harsh shifting during normal driving conditions. The issue is most noticeable between 1st–2nd gear and 2nd–3rd gear, with 2nd gear being especially problematic. The vehicle jerks and slams aggressively into gear during acceleration, causing unstable driving behavior and hesitation. In addition, when coming to a complete stop, the vehicl
... e jerks forward unexpectedly. When accelerating again from a stop, the transmission jerks hard once more before shifting. This behavior occurs repeatedly during everyday driving and creates a safety concern, especially in traffic, intersections, parking areas, and while merging onto highways. The condition has progressively become worse over time and the vehicle currently has approximately 71,000 miles. The sudden shifting and jerking behavior affects vehicle control and creates concern for the safety of the driver, passengers, and surrounding traffic. No warning lights were present at the time of the issue. The problem appears to be related to the transmission/powertrain system. I also became aware that similar transmission and harsh shifting problems have been reported by other owners of the same make and model vehicle, despite my VIN currently not being included in any recall while others had a transmission recallRead more

The vehicle has intermittent hesitation/delayed acceleration from a stop and during low-speed stop-and-go driving. At times, engine RPM increases before the vehicle responds or accelerates normally. This creates a safety concern when entering traffic, turning, merging, or accelerating from a stopped position because the vehicle does not always respond predictably to throttle input. The concern wa
... s reported to a Volkswagen dealer in writing during a prior repair process and was later formally documented on a repair order as hesitation on acceleration. The vehicle has prior Volkswagen repair history involving a coolant warning/low coolant concern, head gasket repair, and later camshaft seal/belt cover repair. After the most recent repair, the delayed acceleration/hesitation concern remained unresolved. The vehicle is currently under review with Volkswagen Customer Care, but the safety-related drivability concern has not yet been fully resolved. Supporting documents include the 2025 written report of jerking from a stop, the 2026 repair order documenting hesitation on acceleration, and post-repair emails showing the issue remained unresolved. After I notified the dealer in writing that the hesitation/delayed acceleration concern remained after the most recent repair, I did not receive a documented response or resolution, and the concern remains unresolved with Volkswagen Customer Care.Read more

... hile driving, hard shifting, RPM surging/revving, hesitation during acceleration, and erratic transmission behavior. The vehicle has hesitated in traffic, creating a significant safety concern. No warning lights or diagnostic alerts were displayed prior to diagnosis. On May 26, 2026, the vehicle was taken to [XXX] Ford, [XXX] , for a routine oil change and completion of open recall repairs. At that time, the transmission-related symptoms were reported to the Ford service department. The dealership performed a road test with a data logger and diagnosed the issue as: “Torque converter slipping causing shudder / bump while driving.” The dealership recommended the following repairs: Replacement of the torque converter Transmission line flush Replacement of transmission fluid Retesting after repair The quoted repair estimate was approximately $4,500. The Ford service advisor stated that the repair did not necessarily have to be completed immediately, but also warned that the condition could worsen and leave the driver stranded. This presents a serious safety concern. A vehicle experiencing transmission shuddering, torque converter slippage, hesitation, hard shifting, and erratic RPM behavior can experience loss of propulsion, delayed or inadequate acceleration, unpredictable drivetrain response in traffic, inability to safely merge or clear intersections, and stranding in unsafe conditions. ... Power drop at 15 mph, the transmission jumping into what feels like 4th or 5th gear at 20 mph, and sluggish acceleration — is consistent with the clutch pack slipping and the TCM essentially giving up on lower gears and defaulting to a higher gear to protect itself. Manual mode being completely unresponsive is a significant red flag — it means the TCM may have entered a limp or failsafe mode where it’s overriding driver input entirely.Read more

2022 GMC Canyon AT4 Crew Cab. After the vehicle is shifted into Park and the engine is shut off, the ignition key cannot be removed from the cylinder. The key is physically locked, the steering wheel will not lock, and the vehicle cannot be reliably secured. The only workaround is to restart the engine and cycle the shifter repeatedly until the interlock releases the key. Recurring. Safety implic
... ations: operator cannot reliably power the vehicle off in an emergency, cannot lock the steering column, and may be forced to leave an unattended vehicle in accessory mode — fire, electrical, and theft risk. The defect is documented in GM's own literature. GM Bulletin PI1429 and GM TSB 19-NA-206 address this exact symptom on the Canyon/Colorado platform. NHTSA-archived GM TSB MC-10113734 (March 2015), "Ignition Key Cannot Be Removed and/or Does Not Rotate to the 'Off' Position," names the 2015 GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado. The 2022 Canyon uses the same shifter and ignition-interlock architecture. Documented cause: failure of the transmission control lever microswitch that signals "Park" to the interlock solenoid. Documented fix: replace the shifter assembly. Reported to an authorized GMC dealer while still under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Dealer recorded the concern verbatim — "key stays locked in ignition when shifting to Park" — and closed it "unable to duplicate," no repair, despite the open bulletins. A second GMC dealer later refused to inspect, with the service advisor stating on the service drive that there is no fix, that they see this on Canyons and Colorados all the time, and that he had seen another such vehicle the day before. No diagnostic, no repair order. GM's Technical Assistance Center has since taken the position that the bulletins above do not apply to this vehicle, which is inconsistent with the bulletins themselves. No crash, no injury, no fire. My wife has felt for quite some time that the traction on our 2022 Acura MDX is lacking. She first attributed it to tires, but after replacing them in November of 2024 she said that the issue was still present. She mentioned it to the Service Advisor at Bloomington Acura but we don't recall the exact timing of that and don't have a record of it. In February of 2026, while driving in snowy conditi
... ons we arrived at a vacation property. In driving up the driveway, the MDX got stuck. We got out of the car to try to push it and noticed that the rear wheels weren't rotating (I would expect them to on an AWD vehicle when the front wheels spin). We were able to put wood pieces under the front tires and get the vehicle up the driveway. We reported it to the dealer, who told us that if there were no warning lights there was no issue. We asked if they could test it because AWD wasn't working. We didn't get far but asked during a recent oil change if they could test the AWD. We had to push for that but they did test. They indicated that the rear drive rotated freely, indicating that "splines" between the transmission and transfer case had failed and it would cost $14,000 to repair (our MDX is now beyond the mileage threshold of the power train warranty. I then researched and learned that this issue is under NHTSA investigation DP26001. Customers don't have a reasonable way to know that AWD isn't working; we have brought it up previously with no way of "proving" that it isn't working (no warning lights). We believe that Acura should extend the power train warranty and repair our vehicle. The dealer let us know that they have another customer with the same issue right now. I don't believe that dealers file reports to NHTSA and imagine this issue is bigger than the number of complaints filed. AWD isn't needed by many, but it affects our safety in snowy conditions.Read more

We purchased a used 2020 Ford Expedition Max Platinum, VIN [XXX] , from Deacon Jones dealership. The vehicle currently has 128,888 miles. However, within only two weeks of purchasing the vehicle, the transmiss

This is an extremely dangerous safety issue, especially considering I travel frequently to doctors’ appointments and regularly transport my seven grandchildren in this SUV. In addition to the transmission failure, the main electrical system controlling the dashboard frequently glitches and malfunctions, even after Ford performed a software update. These ongoing electrical problems create additional safety concerns and make the vehicle unreliable. We immediately contacted the dealership after the problems began. Their only offer was $750 toward a transmission replacement that will cost over $5,000. We simply do not have that kind of money, especially while continuing to make monthly payments of $850 on a vehicle that is unsafe to drive. We have also since discovered the vehicle had previously been involved in an accident that was never reported to us before the sale. What is most concerning is that this vehicle appears to have received an inspection sticker despite clearly not undergoing a proper inspection. A transmission that slips out of gear and significant electrical malfunctions should never have passed inspection. This places not only my family at risk, but also everyone else on the road. The exact failed component is unknown to me at this time, but the issue appears related to the vehicle’s electrical system. Prior to the incident, I received a charging error notification while the vehicle was plugged in. I unplugged the charger from the wall outlet, waited briefly, and plugged it back in. Later that same day, the vehicle entered a no-start condition and would not start despite
... repeated attempts over approximately two hours. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle left me stranded at night for approximately two hours without warning. Because the vehicle would not start, I was unable to reliably move or operate the vehicle. Depending on location, weather conditions, surrounding traffic, and other circumstances or emergency situations, this type of failure could place occupants and other drivers at risk. Additionally, I previously reported a separate safety-related incident involving this same vehicle in February 2026 in which the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly accelerated in my daughter’s daycare parking lot. This has not been reproduced. The vehicle unexpectedly started and operated again at approximately the same time the tow truck arrived, after remaining inoperable for roughly two hours. Because the issue resolved itself without repair, it’s not clear what the root cause is. The vehicle has not yet been inspected. The vehicle has remained garaged following the incident pending further evaluation and communication with Ford. There were some warnings. Prior to operating the vehicle that evening, I received a charging error notification while the vehicle was plugged in. We bought this vehicle from Carvana in February 2023. Since very early on owning this vehicle, the engine hesitated and stuttered when trying to shift from first to second gear, and would lunge forward slightly. In December 2024, I received a letter from Ford Motor Company about a customer satisfaction program, Campaign 24N07. The letter addressed the symptoms my vehicle exhibited, including engin

The letter states that Ford Motor Company provides a one-time replacement of the canister purge valve, given these symptoms and the check engine light being on. When I called all the local Ford dealerships, they refused to do it because the check engine light was not on, and that Ford Motor Company issued this as a customer satisfaction program, rather than a safety recall.Everything that was listed in Campaign 24N07 is MOST DEFINITELY a safety issue, and should not be taken lightly. It is highly concerning that Ford Motor Company didn’t think to consider ENGINE ISSUES a safety recall. The class action lawsuit Vargas et al v. Ford Motor Company had a deadline of November 4, 2020, which was 2 years and 3 months prior to us buying the vehicle, so any vehicles of the affected years and models should have been either repaired, or not allowed to be sold unless the repairs were done by an authorized Ford dealership. Brought it back to the dealer and although they previously confirmed the problem it did not do it for them this time and corporate would not allow further diagnosis other than a test drive and scan for codes. The problem doesn’t cause a code to be created. In my opinion as a person who worked on cars for 55 years, the next logical step would be to drop the CVT pan and inspect the fluid for metallic particles or contamination. When doing a deep dive into potential causes of the problem 1 make sure the programming is up to date , confirmed. Second the torque converter is not fully disengaging. This causes tires to nearly lock up and a potential loss of control. The dealer can only do what corporate allows. I had to remove my foot from the brake pedal and press it again before the brakes engaged and the vehicle stopped. This has occurred approximately seven times intermittently. The issue creates a serious
... safety hazard and risk of collision. In addition, the “D” gear indicator intermittently blinks while driving and the “P” indicator intermittently blinks while the vehicle is in Park. Vehicle was previously brought to dealership and issue was reported, but the condition continues intermittently.Read more

I brought my 2018 Toyota Camry in for servicing a few days before 12/09/2024. They gave me no bad reports. However DAYS AFTER I received my car back, it just stopped on [XXX] with me and my [XXX] grandson in the car. I got no warning lights, I had no symptoms that it was failing. When I towed it to Toyota, it was closing time, so the next day I was told it was my TRANSMISSION, for the price of $
... 10k!! I was livid!! Then I started looking into the Camrys issues and found that ALL THESE CARS WERE HAVING THE Ame issues after they changed transmission parts. When I confronted the service manager he knocked the price down to $5,500 but I’m on [XXX] and that was an astronomical price especially after I had paid the car off a week prior. Toyota had my car for TEN MONTHS, it was backed up due to so many cars having issues, and tariffs. I could’ve had a baby by the time I got it back, then my hood strut broke when they had it but they didn’t know how that happened🤬 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

Automatic transmission had a hard time finding gears and accelerating while in a parking lot. There were vehicles behind me that could have run into me during the brief failure. There was no warning light on the dash. I have not been able to replicate it since yesterday, but my spouse had it happen a few months ago as well.

2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. Purchased January 2026 took to Oxmoor Hyundai Service Center March 2026. February 2026 began using oil at a measured rate of 700 miles per tank of oil. Used 3 full tanks of oil within the month of February. Oil lights and engine lights on and off and flashing during this time. March 8, 2026, engine light flashed and then stayed on continuously. Engine shook and stutter
... ed and made a loud noise. Engine stalled while I was driving at 35-40 miles per hour. I was able to continue driving to my home with the stuttering and stalling. The next morning I drove it to the Oxmoor Hyundai Service Center. I told relayed the timeline of all symptoms I had experienced over the 2 month lifetime of my ownership. They did not attempt to reproduce the issue. They only entered "shakes in reverse" as the customer provided issue on the intake information. Service Center performed diagnostic, found cylinder misfires on cylinder 2 and cylinder 4. Replaced spark plugs to resolve Cylinder 2. Cylinder 4 continued to misfire. Used Borescope and found broken valve. They did not address the scoring on the cylinder of the valve. Recommended engine replacement. Advised it would not be covered under a warranty because the rod did not break. The oil consumption was proven with documentation from multiple Valvoline visits and the vertical scoring was present on the cylinder with the broken valve in the borescope photo. The Service Center refused to do a Boring Clearance Test or any other test that would prove the engine should be covered under an extended warranty or class action settlement. It wasn't until I reviewed HMA documents uploaded to the BBB Arbitration, that I realized that the information I initially gave to the Service Center of all the symptoms with timelines had not been entered into the system for diagnostic review by Techline. Arbitrator denied my claim under the theta settlement because the rod had not broken yet, BUT she said my engine was defective.Read more

So next i contacted American Honda and explained it to them. After a week of waiting they came back and said we will give you a discount to $2500. My response it this should be under warranty. They will not admit they had defective Rear Differentials as I saw NHTSA had an open inquiry of these RDs. NHTSA Action Number: PE22011. Now I am waiting to get my CR-V back and pay the hefty bill even though this is clearly a Honda defect. Can you help me get a Recall opened to American Honda to fix these Rear Differentials? My wife and our two infant sons (ages [XXX] and [XXX] ) were passengers. There were no prior warning lights or symptoms. ... i-truck in the passing lane. We narrowly reached the shoulder safely. The odometer read 79,018 miles — inside both limits of the federally mandated 8-year/80,000-mile emissions warranty under 40 CFR §85.2103. The vehicle was 7 years old at time of failure. Hoehn Land Rover Carlsbad diagnosed complete engine failure caused by timing chain guide failure — a known defect pattern in the Ingenium diesel engine. The service manager stated failures like this "aren't that rare" with these engines. Repair estimate: $28,000–$30,000. Jaguar Land Rover North America (Case #[XXX]) denied the warranty claim entirely, offering $800, without ever evaluating the claim under the active federal emissions warranty. Their denial cited only the expired extended CPO warranty and a maintenance gap — neither of which constitutes valid grounds for denying an emissions warranty claim under 40 CFR §85.2103(d), as the manufacturer cannot demonstrate the maintenance gap caused a documented design defect. This failure pattern is documented in JLR Technical Service Bulletins LTB00735 and SSM74184. Land Rover Korea issued a recall for the same timing chain failure in 2020. No equivalent recall was issued in the United States for identical vehicles with identical engines. JLR has refused all requests for review or reconsideration for 24 months. I am troubled that the service folks in Towne Toyota did not make me aware of this program! I am afraid to drive the vehicle knowing that the Check Engine Light may reappear. Or worse, the transmission can completely fail unexpectedly that may prevent me or other vehicles from avoiding a collision. I own a 2021 Kia Telluride with approximately 111,000 miles. I initially brought the vehicle to a Kia dealership for an oil consumption issue and engine noise. The dealership diagnosed and repaired a timing chain and tensioner issue, stating the vehicle was “working properly” upon return. After picking up the vehicle, I immediately began experiencing electrical warning lights, including the b
... attery warning light and system alerts (blind spot and general warning indicators). I returned to the dealership, where they performed diagnostic testing and indicated a potential alternator issue, but stated it was in a “borderline” range and that the vehicle was safe to drive. Shortly after leaving the dealership, while driving with my family in the vehicle, the electrical system began to fail. Multiple warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle lost electrical function while in motion. The vehicle ultimately became completely inoperable and shut down in a parking lot, creating a serious safety concern. Prior to the dealership visit and repairs, the vehicle had no history of electrical issues, warning lights, or charging system problems. The dealership later acknowledged that the alternator issue was not present when the vehicle was initially brought in. I am submitting this complaint due to the sudden and complete electrical system failure while driving, which posed a significant safety risk. The progression from no prior symptoms to total failure immediately following dealership service and diagnosis raises concerns about vehicle reliability and potential safety defects related to the charging system.Read more

My 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 43, VIN [XXX] , has had a recurring safety issue with the transmission wiring harness and connector X279. Mercedes-Benz said this connector can let water in, which can cause a short circuit, overheating, and a fire risk while the car is parked and off. That is why the vehicle was covered by recall 24V445 / MBUSA Campaign 2024100002. This same issue was already addresse
... d once before in January 2023 under MBUSA Campaign 2022080010 / NHTSA 22V-533, when the connector was checked and reworked and a bracket was installed. Even after that, the car later had to go back again on November 29, 2024 for the newer recall repair, when the original two-part harness was replaced with a one-part harness. The part that concerns me most is that this is not just a routine repair issue. It is a fire risk that can happen while the vehicle is parked with the ignition off. I am also concerned that the recall and service records do not clearly show the exact completion date in the manufacturer’s system. I am asking NHTSA to record this complaint and review the defect history and repair history for this vehicle. I can provide the recall notices, service records, purchase contract, vehicle history report, and the notice I already sent to Mercedes-Benz USA.
