Our 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk made the warning code "service 4 wheel drive" and shortly after when parked at a gas station shifted itself into 4 LOW. I figured it out after starting to drive and we limped home which was a few miles away. We called the dealership and were told to bring it in for diagnostic. While parked on the inclined driveway the Jeep shifted itself into N and luckily I was ab
... le to press the brake (Non-ABS or hydraulic assistance due to the engine being off) stop it from rolling through the sidewalk into the street. I was able to get the Jeep into 2H to drive the 5 miles to dealership where they said they would do a diagnostic. 2 days later they texted us to say the transfer case was at fault and that would cost us $3825 up front and then we could submit a claim to Mopar to be reimbursed. I don't believe the original PTU (Transfer case) is available for inspection but you could ask the dealership. It's obvious our safety along with neighbors, pedestrians, and people driving down the street were put at risk, and had we known how serious the issue was, I would have asked for it to be towed to the dealership instead of driving it. The problem was confirmed by the dealer to be under recall. I don't know if anyone besides the dealership has inspected our failed PTU. We had very little warning to the problem. I believe the first time we saw the warning light was the same day the vehicle began having mechanical failures.Read more

We had a sudden heavy wet snow that accumulated a couple inches on the roadway. This made the roadway very slippery. The vehicle could not be driven safely. Upon lifting my foot off the gas pedal, the rear wheels would enter regenerative braking and cause the rear wheels to skid (no matter the drive mode or speed down to less than 5 mph), leading to fishtailing and no ability to control the vehi
... cle. The only way to operate the vehicle without extreme risk was to immediately put the vehicle in neutral as I lifted my foot off of the gas pedal to decelerate or when going down hill. Otherwise you would immediately go into an uncontrollable skid. I researched the problem extensively. There is no way to disable the regenerative braking. With the design of this vehicle, if you cannot disable regenerative braking for slippery conditions, the vehicle cannot be safely operated. This vehicle cannot be safely driven on winter roadways. Dodge should add the ability to turn off regenerative braking. Lives are at risk. I queried Grok AI and it explains the problem and lack of a resolution quite well. Question: Is there a way to turn off the regenerative braking on a 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T Plus plug in hybrid to allow for safe driving on slippery roads? Answer: The 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T Plus is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) based on the Alfa Romeo Tonale platform, featuring regenerative braking as a standard part of its hybrid system. This recaptures energy during deceleration to recharge the battery. From official Dodge sources, reviews, and owner discussions, there is no user-selectable option to completely turn off or disable regenerative braking in the Hornet R/T PHEV. It is integrated into the powertrain and operates variably depending on the drive mode. No sources indicate a hidden way to fully disable regen without aftermarket modifications (which could void warranty or affect safety systems). The design prioritizes efficiency and performance over a full "off" switch.Read more

The vehicle is experiencing a catastrophic mechanical failure of the transfer case/transmission splines, resulting in a 'Loss of Motive Power.' I was driving my vehicle that was just over 5 years old with just over 38,000 miles on the highway out of state for a family wedding with my 3 children and wife. There were no safety lights or indications of any malfunction, but upon acceleration the transmission “was not engaging” and it would not shift up to increase speed. I pulled to the far lane and upon down shifting the vehicle was jerk
... ing forward. After getting off the next exit, the vehicle would not engage between gears and speed up. This put my family with 3 kids under 7 at extreme risk and left us stranded out of state with minimal options. The car needed to be towed and arrangements needed to be made for our family and all belongings packed in the car. It was determined that the transmission was in need of full rebuild or replacement and advised to contact Ford as it may be under warranty. My powertrain warranty was 5yrs and 60,000 miles and Ford after 2 weeks of trying to get someone to contact me back stated it’s no longer under warranty and there is nothing they can do - even with a vehicle with 38,400 miles. I received a few quotes and Ford wanted nearly $11,000 to replace. I chose to have the transmission rebuilt due to the cost and still making car payments on the vehicle. This is a known issue with this transmission. Ford has sent out reimbursements for other Explorers, but my VIN is not included in them.Read more

Summary of Issue On [XXX], my family and I departed Kansas City, Missouri, for a camping trip to Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Cades Cove), Tennessee, approximately 800 miles away. We were towing a 2020 Forest River Salem FSX/RTX travel trailer, estimated at approximately 6,000 pounds loaded, using a Reese weight distribution hitch with integrated sway control. This load was well below the
... rated towing capacity of the vehicle. On [XXX], while driving without the trailer attached, the vehicle displayed multiple warnings including “Reduced Engine Power” and a transmission system alert. I immediately pulled over, shut the vehicle off, and restarted it. The warnings persisted. I cautiously drove approximately five miles to Twin City GMC, where the vehicle was diagnosed with a failed transmission valve body. Dealer and Manufacturer Response The service manager at Twin City GMC informed me that the required valve body was on national backorder, with multiple vehicles ahead of mine, and that wait times had reached up to three months. To confirm, I contacted Molle Chevrolet (Blue Springs, MO) and Randy Curnow GMC (Kansas City, KS). Both dealerships independently confirmed that this was a known and recurring issue, and that extended backorders for the valve body were common. I was informed that GMC could provide a daily rental allowance, but the rental vehicle would not permit towing. With my family, three dogs, and travel trailer stranded 800 miles from home, this option was not viable. As a result, I was effectively forced to trade in my truck and purchase a replacement vehicle to safely return home. Manufacturer Awareness and Complaint History GMC has demonstrated awareness of this issue through service bulletins, widespread owner reports, and media documentation addressing transmission valve body failures and parts shortages. Incident date: Jan 11, 2026
I was driving on the highway above 60 mph, and I suddenly got a "propulsion power reduced" alert, along with a yellow indicator light. I almost immediately thereafter got a message saying "speed reduced to 50 mph" and then "speed reduced to 30 mph." I got no acceleration when I depressed the accelerator pedal. In fact, it felt like the car had engaged the regenerative braking to actively slow me d
... own. This is a life-threatening safety flaw, as it was difficult to get to the breakdown lane. The only reason there was no collision was that there was relatively light traffic. I managed to get to a breakdown lane and then, after restarting the car, to get off the highway and into a parking lot, where I called for a tow. The car was towed to the dealer I bought it from and, the next day, they inspected the car and determined that the auxiliary transmission fluid pump had failed and needed to be replaced. I've seen many reports on reddit that this part fails on chevy bolts. What makes this truly unsafe is that there was no warning whatsoever that something was wrong. Everything seemed fine (after I got a new battery under the big bolt battery recall) until the car suddenly cut power and slowed me down in the middle of the highway. I am reporting a potential safety-related defect involving the high-voltage battery system and associated diagnostic software in a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S AWD. The vehicle has experienced abnormal battery behavior, including accelerated degradation and confirmed system faults affecting battery management, charging, and vehicle communication. An independent EV diagnostic test shows the high-vol
... tage battery at approximately 91% state of health, representing about 9% degradation in under two years of normal use. The testing facility stated this rate of degradation is abnormal for the vehicle’s age, where typical expectations would be significantly lower. In addition, vehicle diagnostics show confirmed and recurring fault codes involving critical systems, including the CAN Gateway (inter-module communication), the high-voltage battery charger/battery management interface, and the emergency call and communication module. These faults are repeatedly logged as “confirmed” and “test failed since last DTC clear,” indicating persistent system-level issues rather than intermittent events. These systems are responsible for battery condition reporting, charging control, communication between vehicle control modules, and safety/telemetry functions. Limitations or failures in these systems raise concerns that battery condition and integrity may not be accurately detected or reported to the driver. Volkswagen dealerships have declined to perform the definitive manufacturer-certified battery capacity test, stating it will not be authorized unless battery capacity is already below warranty thresholds. As a result, more accurate and intrusive testing is unavailable due to manufacturer policy rather than lack of concern. I am also aware of an independent investigation released in January 2026 documenting production-related battery cell defects in Volkswagen Group MEB vehicles from model years 2021–2023, involving increased battery self-discharge and diagnostic measures that mayRead more

The next day I was driving from my house in Harrisburg and it started jerking and deacceralting on its own (with t
... raffic behind me). I got to the stop sign and kept smelling smoke. I shut the car off and restarted it and could only drive 10 miles per hour to get to the shop. This has happened 5 different times. I got to the shop and they said it was my transmission. They stated they hooked it up to computer and threw codes out. 8 days later I took to another shop and they stated the same thing (this shop took my car for test drive and understood what I was talking about). I called Ford about it and they stated they could not help me and hung up. It is a safety issue. I could of been crossing railroad tracks when this happened and a train could of been coming down the tracks.Read more

My car has been having issues with what seems to be the transmission. This Nissan Pathfinder has CVT, which is continuous variable transmission. Three months ago I had a radiator blowout and had to change that and the thermostat. I believe that it was due to the transmission issues. currently I have an oil leak and I believe it’s due to your issues with the transmission.

As we were driving the vehicle it started to hesitate then would begin slipping as it shifted to the point it had to be babied as you drove it. Less than 10k miles out of warranty and only three years old. All of the previous awd edge models had a recall by Ford to cover what I learned was a failing torque converter, requiring a full transmission rebuild. This model has yet to be covered even tho

The transfer case blew out when I stopped at a red-light, within the first 3 years of original ownership. Only 65,000 miles on the odometer, mostly from highway driving. The car is now inoperable and repair quotes are prohibitively expensive.
