The vehicle experienced a powertrain failure involving the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). On June 19, 2025, the vehicle was inspected at Dobbs Tire & Auto at approximately 154,548 miles after a grinding noise and drivetrain noise were observed. The shop found metal shavings in the rear differential fluid and advised the vehicle be taken to a Jeep dealership. Because the vehicle was originally purchase
... d from Cassens Jeep, it was taken there for further diagnosis. On August 28, 2025, the vehicle was inspected at Cassens Jeep at approximately 158,011 miles. The dealership confirmed internal drivetrain noise, metal contamination, and a PTU-related fault code. The vehicle experiences knocking noises at low speeds, lurching while driving, and intermittent drivetrain and 4WD warning indicators. The dealer advised replacement of the PTU and rear drivetrain components. This condition is associated with the active PTU powertrain recall originally issued on January 23, 2025. On January 22, 2026, a representative from Cassens Jeep confirmed that there is currently no available repair remedy, no estimated timeline for completion, and that required parts remain on backorder. This creates an ongoing safety risk due to potential loss of drive power and possible unintended vehicle movement related to park function failure. Service work orders and inspection reports from both repair facilities have been attached to support this complaint.Read more

Complaint Description The vehicle is equipped with a Ford 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission that exhibits erratic and unpredictable shifting behavior. The transmission frequently hesitates, shifts harshly, or delays engagement, particularly when accelerating from a stop, slowing down, or attempting to merge into traffic. At times, the vehicle fails to deliver power when the accelerator is pr
... essed, creating a delay in acceleration. This is especially dangerous when pulling into intersections, making left turns across traffic, or merging onto roadways where immediate and predictable power is required to avoid collisions. The transmission also downshifts harshly and unexpectedly, causing sudden jerking and brief deceleration. These events can occur without warning and increase the risk of loss of vehicle control or rear-end collisions, particularly in stop-and-go traffic or at low speeds. In addition, the transmission often clunks or lurches into gear, including when shifting from park to drive or reverse. This creates unsafe conditions in parking lots and low-speed environments where precise vehicle control is necessary to avoid pedestrians or other vehicles. Because these issues occur inconsistently and without warning, the driver cannot reliably anticipate vehicle response. This unpredictability represents a safety defect that increases the risk of a crash during normal driving conditions.Read more

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned? System: Power Train: Automatic Transmission Specific Component: UA80 8-Speed Automatic Transmission (Internal Failure) Available for Inspection: Yes, the vehicle is currently available. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While merging onto the highway, the transmission failed to upshift, resulting in a sudden and unexpe
... cted loss of acceleration. The vehicle could not reach or maintain highway speeds (speed limit). This created an immediate hazard as I was unable to keep up with the flow of traffic, forcing me to make an emergency exit across multiple lanes while moving significantly slower than other vehicles. The loss of motive power increased the risk of a high-speed rear-end collision. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer? Yes. The problem was confirmed by Heritage Toyota Service. The technicians confirmed an internal transmission failure. A secondary consultation with a transmission specialist (AAMCO) also identified the failure as a known mechanical defect common to this transmission model. 4. Has the vehicle been inspected by the manufacturer... or others? Yes, it has been inspected by the authorized Toyota Dealership listed above. I have also reported the issue to Toyota Brand Engagement (National), but a corporate field inspection (DSPM) has not yet been performed. 5. Were there any warning lamps... or other symptoms? Symptoms: A distinct whining noise from the engine/transmission area that increased with vehicle speed. Prior Events: The vehicle was taken to the dealer specifically for this noise. The dealer performed a fluid change and released the vehicle. The catastrophic failure (loss of power) occurred less than 24 hours after leaving the dealership. My vehicle is equipped with an automatic engine stop/start feature that shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stopped, as well as an eTorque system intended to assist with initial acceleration. While stopped at an intersection with a slight downhill grade (foot fully depressing the brake pedal), the auto stop/start feature engaged and the engine shut off. When I released the brake to make a ri
... ght turn, neither the engine nor the eTorque system reengaged. As a result, the vehicle rolled forward under its own momentum into oncoming traffic. I immediately reapplied the brake to stop the vehicle. At that point, the vehicle unexpectedly shifted itself into Park, even though the engine never restarted. I then pressed the ignition button to turn the vehicle off and back on in order to restart the engine. After restarting, I was able to shift into Drive and move into the traffic lane just in time to avoid a collision. A crash was avoided only because oncoming vehicles were able to change lanes to avoid striking my vehicle. At the time of the incident, the vehicle had more than one-third of a tank of fuel, fewer than 33,000 miles, and has been serviced exclusively at the dealership. Vehicle was charged to full overnight. Vehicle was warming up in the garage on the charger in EV mode for approx 20 minutes. Vehicle cabin was warm when unplugged and put in reverse. Vehicle struggled to get through minor snow until traction control was turned off even with being set to "snow" mode (excessive slip). Outside temperature was -1 at the time (well above cold weather operating temp
... erature) when EV powertrain immediately ceased. The vehicle then went into a limp mode. After 20 minutes or so the gas engine functioned normally and the vehicle was on the road without any EV power (regenerative braking was restoring additional battery). Stopped at dealership on my way to work to have a DTC code analyzed from when this event occurred and it was TCM-P1D97-00 Incorrect Gear Ration: Clutch A or D Defective. The vehicle has exhibited transmission hiccups and been reported, so this appears to be a symptom of a consistent problem. At some point I recall the vehicle engaging the parking brake automatically, and the shifter demanded I put the vehicle into P to select my gear. It took a brief moment to understand what the car was doing, but I still have no idea WHY it did it. I followed the standard procedures of press brake while in park, push parking break lever/button until it disengages, but it put itself back into park a couple times before finally driving. I turned the vehicle off and on a couple times during this event as that is what Stellantis has said to do when the vehicle isn't fully operable. It was just a weird scenario of me doing the same steps to engage drive while the vehicle went back to parking brake mode until it finally stopped fighting me. The ensuing drive to work seemed normal. I did not hear or feel anything abnormal other than the complete lack of EV power. Thankfully the event occurred in my subdivision where no other cars were impacted by my vehicle's lack of mobility or determination to stop in its tracks.Read more

The vehicle is experiencing a severe power train failure involving erratic and violent gear selection. The transmission unexpectedly jumps from 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear directly up to 7th or 8th gear, resulting in a total loss of acceleration. This is immediately followed by the transmission "slamming" down into lower gears, usually 1st or 2nd gear without driver input. This behavior is accompanied b
... y a strong burning smell and a dashboard "wrench" warning light. The symptoms match the manufacturing defect documented in Ford TSB 24-2101 (CDF clutch drum). Diagnosis & Manufacturer Response: The issue began in October 2025 with a noticeable transmission shudder. I paid for two transmission flushes at Big O Tires to attempt to resolve the issue, but the mechanical failure has since escalated. When the "wrench" light appeared, an independent diagnostic computer was unable to retrieve an error code, as the light is a proprietary Ford powertrain indicator. Furthermore, the wrench light clears upon restarting the vehicle, despite the violent shifting and burning smell remaining. Ford Corporate agents claim there are "no known issues" and have refused to assist with towing, despite an active NHTSA Engineering Analysis (PE 24-001) regarding this exact 10R80 transmission. Safety Risk: This defect creates an extreme safety hazard. Violent downshifting into low gears at highway speeds can cause a loss of vehicle control or a rear-end collision. The burning smell indicates internal friction and fluid oxidation, posing an immediate fire risk or the potential for a catastrophic mechanical lock-up.Read more

I am reporting a suspected safety defect involving the Motor Generator Unit (MGU) used in the eTorque system on my Ram 1500. The vehicle experienced an MGU failure that resulted in abnormal electrical behavior, warning messages, and impaired drivability. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Ram dealership, which confirmed the MGU has failed and requires replacement. The MGU is currently on
... national backorder with no estimated availability date. As a result, the vehicle is inoperable or unsafe to operate and cannot be repaired in a reasonable timeframe. Why this is a safety concern: The MGU is critical to the vehicle’s starting, charging, and powertrain functions. Failure of this component presents safety risks including loss of propulsion, potential stalling or failure to restart, electrical system instability, and vehicle immobilization in traffic or unsafe locations. The extended inability to obtain replacement MGUs significantly increases these risks. Additional information: Based on dealer communications and publicly available owner reports, similar MGU failures and extended backorders appear to affect multiple Ram 1500 eTorque vehicles, indicating this may not be an isolated incident. Dealer/manufacturer actions: The dealer confirmed the failure and ordered the replacement MGU. No repair timeline or permanent remedy has been provided. Request: I am requesting that NHTSA review this issue to determine whether MGU failures in Ram 1500 eTorque vehicles constitute a safety-related defect requiring investigation and potential recall action.Read more

I am submitting this complaint due to a potential safety-related engine failure that occurred while my vehicle was under dealership repair. I have not driven or had access to the vehicle after drop-off. During the repair proce
... ss, I was informed by dealership staff that an injector was seized in the fuel rail and difficult to remove. Although the injector replacement was documented as a short repair, the work was delayed and completed on October 16, 2025. Immediately following this repair, on October 17, 2025, the engine was documented by the dealership as having low compression. I was not notified of this condition until October 27, 2025. The engine damage occurred while the vehicle was under dealership control and immediately following a repair involving seized components. The diagnostic documentation provided to me is incomplete and does not include compression PSI values or supporting data. I am concerned that improper repair or handling may have caused internal engine damage, resulting in a condition that could lead to engine failure or unsafe operation. Due to the circumstances and lack of transparency, I do not feel the vehicle is safe to operate and am concerned about the risk of engine failure.Read more

The vehicle is subject to an open federal safety recall involving a fuel injector that may crack and leak fuel onto the top of the engine. According to NHTSA, liquid fuel or fuel vapor may accumulate near hot engine or exhaust components, creating a risk of an under-hood fire and injury. I purchased this vehicle after the recall had already been issued. The recall was not disclosed to me at the t

When I contacted an authorized dealer to ask whether there were any open recalls, I was initially told there were none. After I specifically referenced the recall, I was told that parts were not available and that no repair had been completed. The safety risk is that the vehicle may leak fuel near hot components without warning, creating a fire hazard while driving or after the engine is shut off. I have two recalls that I cannot get any assistance with Recall # 23S65 Rear Axle Bolt Breakage and new recall #25S75 which is Fuel Pump Riser. I have acquired services from four different dealerships and have taken photos and mileage to get repairs completed. I hear clicking noise in my truck and afraid of it causing serious damage and injury along with my fuel pump issue and bad gas mileage and
... noises when initial cranking my vehicle. I would like to know what dealership in Southwest Louisiana could I bring my vehicle in to resolve these issues that I have been dealing with close to a year. If not, what dealership will provide me courtesy like vehicle rental until completed. I currently of the Bubba Ostalet Ford 246 N. Broadway St. Jennings, La 70546.Read more

Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Liberty VIN: [XXX] Summary: The front lower ball joint on my 2006 Jeep Liberty failed while the vehicle was in normal use. This failure matches the defect described in NHTSA Recall 06V288000 (Chrysler F23), which involves corrosion and separation of the front lower ball joints. My VIN does not currently show this recall as open, but the failure occurred exactly as described in
... the recall documentation. Details: In November 2025, the front end of the vehicle collapsed due to a lower ball joint separation. The joint failed without warning, causing loss of steering control. The vehicle had to be towed home by AAA. The failure is consistent with the recall condition involving water intrusion, corrosion, and separation of the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle. The vehicle still has other open recalls (fuel tank and rear lower control arms), but the front lower ball joint recall does not appear as open in the NHTSA VIN lookup. I believe the recall may have been incorrectly marked as completed in the past, or the original repair was not performed or not performed correctly. The defect has clearly recurred. Safety Concern: This is a serious safety hazard. The ball joint separation caused sudden loss of steering and could have resulted in a crash. The defect is identical to the condition described in Recall 06V288000. Requested Action: I am requesting that NHTSA review this case and require Chrysler/Stellantis to perform the recall repair for the front lower ball joints, as the defect has reoccurred and the recall never expires. I also request verification of whether the recall was ever properly completed on this VIN. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

I have been having an intermittent 4WD SERVICE light come on, then after a while it stayed on. I brought the vehicle to my mechanic who diagnosed the issue as a failing Power Transfer Unit (PTU). He suggested I bring to the dealership for diagnosis as he saw recalls and service bulletins related to this issue, indeed I found "NHTSA Campaign 25V011000 (Reported April 2025): Involves the power trans
... fer unit (PTU), which may damage and cause loss of drive power or park function. Consequence: Increased crash or injury risk from stall or rollaway. Remedy: Software updates and PTU replacement if needed (free); final remedy expected January 2026. Contact FCA at 1-800-853-1403 (recall #01C)" Even tho this issue is the same as reported in the recall, for some reason my VIN is not included in the recall. The car has been at the dealership awaiting repair since Monday, Jan 12 and I am told the part is on backorder and will not be available until Feb 16. So my car is out of commission for about 5-6 weeks due to this faulty part that is prevelant in these vehicles. I argued for some goodwill assistance and they did give me some relief, but I believe this should be included in the recall. Can you assist me with getting my vehicle included in the recall? The issue was first diagnosed by my mechanic in Nov 2024 at 53,998 miles then again in Jan 2026 at 64,896 miles. The dealer has had the car since Jan 12, 2026.Read more

There have been several instances where the vehicle appears to lose traction in 4WD. An error message appears "4WD Overheated Performance Temporarily Reduced". When this message appears, the vehicle is unable to gain traction in snow. Even 1" - 2" of snow is enough to prevent forward movement. In this condition, the rear end of the truck tends to fishtail to the right and left. After checkin
... g online, there appears to be many other instances associated with this condition. The dealer replaced the fluid in the differential and transfer case hoping to fix the issue, but the problem persisted. They were unable to reproduce the issue on the second service call. Currently, my vehicle in in the driveway and is unable to move given the 1" of snow present. The truck is being towed to the dealer tomorrow, Jan. 28th, 2026, for them to assess it a third time. I believe the failure is related to the light duty Transfer Case & Transfer Case Motor, but that has not yet been determined by the dealer. I'm having the vehicle towed since losing traction on a slippery road can be dangerous and cause the vehicle to slow/stop and/or lose control along with 4WD.Read more

After a repair/service visit at a national auto repair chain, my 2017 Lincoln MKC developed ongoing severe drivability and safety issues. The check engine light began flashing (active misfire), and the vehicle was unsafe for highway travel due to risk of loss of power/engine damage. Independent shop documentation reports cylinder #4 misfire (P0304) and additional engine timing-related code(s), low
... oil condition, and notes indicating internal engine damage and that the engine may require replacement. The vehicle also had a vacuum/brake booster line issue that affected brake assist until corrected. The problem has been confirmed by independent service centers and the vehicle is available for inspection. There was a near crash, but no fire, injury, or police report occurred.Read more
