MY 2005 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER DEVELOPED A LEAK FROM THE TRANSFER CASE, WHICH HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE A COMPLETE LOSS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID AS WELL AS LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. THERE ARE DOCUMENTED ACCIDENTS WHICH HAVE OCCURRED AS A RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND FIRST RELEASED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) IN NOVEMBER OF 2007 WITH THE MOST RECENT TSB BEING ISSUED MAY OF 2010. MY VEHICLE WAS CLEARLY UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME THAT THE TSB'S WERE INITIALLY ISSUED, BUT TOYOTA WITHHELD THIS INFORMATION FROM THE CONSUMER. THE DEALER ASKED THAT I RETRIEVE THE CAR AS NO PROBLEM WAS DETECTED. I BELIEVE THIS CAR HAS SERIOUS ELECTRONIC OR RELATED PROBLEMS AS REGARDS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN BRAKING ACTION AND TRANSMISSION GOING INTO NEUTRAL AFTER THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. WE BROUGHT OUR DAUGHTER A 2000 323I BMW, A FEW WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THIS WAS A GIFT AND OUR DAUGHTER WAS SO HAPPY, WE SPENT A GOOD AMOUNT OF MONEY ON THIS CAR, IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, ONLY HAS 50K MILES AND WAS GARAGE KEPT AND WAS NEVER DROVE IN THE WINTER, AND NOW IT IS SITTING IN THE GARAGE AND CANT BE DRIVEN. AT 7000 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION MADE A VERY LOUD GRINDING AND RATTLING NOISE, SHAKING THE VEHICLE, WHEN SHIFTING FROM R TO D. THIS WAS REPEATED AT 25,000 MILES SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE. IN JULY OF 2010, VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN FOR MEMORY STEERING, THEY REPLACED THE RIGHT STRUT. WHEN MOVING THE CVT TRANSMISSION, DASH MOUNTED GEAR SHIFT LEVER FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY FELL APART. THE HANDLE FELL TO THE FLOOR, AS DID THE BUTTON AND THE INTERNAL SPRING. THIS OCCURRED TODAY 8/12/2010 FOR THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME (SO FAR). I MANAGED TO RE-ASSEMBLE THE SPRING, BUTTON AND LEVER UPHOLSTERED GRIP ONTO THE LEVER ITSELF BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS SUPPOS
