DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, MADE A LEFT TURN, TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CAR ACTED AS IF SOMEONE HAD PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. NO WARNING LIGHTS, NO SOUND, NOTHING TO GIVE ANY WARNING THE TRANSMISSION HAD ANY PROBLEMS. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND I COMMUNICATED TO THEM THAT I DO NOT WANT THAT VEHICLE BACK UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. THE ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING FOR THREE YEARS OR MORE. SINCE I GOT THE VEHICLE I HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH SENSORS AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AFTER HAVING ONLY AROUND 78,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I WAS DRIVING MY EXPLORER YESTERDAY AND IT WAS ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT GEARS AND INSTEAD SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION OR A TIRE GETTING BUSTED. THE O/D LIGHT CAME ON AND START FLASHING. IT WOULD RESET ITSELF EVERYTIME THE CAR WAS RESTARTED BUT IMMEDIATELY CAME BACK ON. LATER IN THE EVENING, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. ... OK IT TO AAMCO AFTER FORD TOLD US THEY WERE TOO BUSY TO RUN DIAGNOSTICS ON IT. AAMCO EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS EITHER THE TRANSMISSION OR THE SOLENOID PACK. UPON OPENING THE PAN UNDERNEATH, THEY EXPLAINED THAT IF THERE WERE METAL CHUNKS IT WOULD BE THE TRANSMISSION; IF NOT, THE SOLENOID PACK. SURE ENOUGH, THERE WERE BIG METAL CHUNKS. NOW, AFTER HAVING THE CAR ONLY TWO MONTHS, I'M HAVING TO COME UP WITH MONEY TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN A CAR THAT APPEARED TO BE IN STELLAR CONDITION. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH TODAY, APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON AND WELL KNOWN ISSUE IN THE FORD EXPLORER. FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP THEIR QUALITY OF EQUIPMENT USED IN THEIR VEHICLES. I OWN A 2005 FORD EXPLORER. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED IN NOVEMBER OF 2009. THE FORD EXPLORER HAD APPROXIMATELY 80,000 MILES ON IT. I PULLED INTO MY SISTER'S DRIVEWAY WHICH IS A FLAT, GRAVEL DRIVEWAY. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2004 MERCURY MONTEREY MINIVAN WHICH I PURCHASED NEW. ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND LITERALLY WITHOUT ANY SIGN OF PROBLEMS, I CAME OUT OF WORK AND DISCOVERED THAT MY VAN WOULD START UP FINE BUT WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR (FORWARD, REVERSE ETC.) I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER HAD WENT OUT AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME $1600 TO REPAIR. AF

I WAS SHOCKED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE SUCH A MAJOR BREAK DOWN WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET I DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT IT ALWAYS SEEMS TO OCCUR AROUND THE 50K MILEAGE MARK. IN FACT, I DISCOVERED THAT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT HAS BEEN FILED IN NY FOR THIS VERY ISSUE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND IF APPROPRIATE FORCE FORD TO ISSUE A RECALL.
