THE VAN HAS MADE STRANGE NOISES AND GOTTEN HORRIBLE GAS MILEAGE SINCE WE PURCHASED AS 'CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED' FROM HONDA DEALER. WE REPORTED BOTH TO DEALER AND GOTTEN NO RESPONSE BUT 'OH, WELL'. WE HAVE SERVICED THE VEHICLE AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP SINCE PURCHASED AND FOLLOWED ALL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SERVICE. WE DROVE ACROSS THE US TO VISIT FAMILY. THE TCS AND CEL CAME ON AND WE TOOK THE CAR TO A SHOP TO HAVE THE CODE READ. P0740. WE CALLED OUR DEALER IN OR AND THEY SAID IT WOULD PROBABLY MAKE IT BACK TO OR FROM AL. 20 MILES LATER THE TRANNY DIED COMPLETELY. MY WIFE CAME WITHIN 10 FEET OF BEING FLATTENED BY A BIG TRUCK DUE TO LACK OF POWER OR CONTROL. MY WIFE AND TWO KIDS WERE STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. WE HAD THE VAN TOWED AND HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID IT WOULD BE 2800-3K TO FIX. THEY CALLED BACK A COUPLE DAYS LATER TO SAY IT WAS ALMOST 3600. WE HAVE RELIGIOUSLY SERVICED THE VAN AND NEVER TOWED OR HAULED ANYTHING. WE HAVE COMPLAINED FOR YEARS TO OUR DEALER THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE VAN. WE BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT COVERED EVERYTHING UP TO 105K MILES. WE HAVE COMPLAINED SINCE WE BOUGHT THE VAN IN 2006 AND HONDA ONLY DROVE AND SAID THEY DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING. WE ARE NOW OUT 3.6K FOR THE NEW TRANSMISSION EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE BEEN CALLING IT OUT FOR 5 YEARS. THE TRANSMISSIONS IN THESE VEHICLES ARE WEAK AND SHOULD NOT BECOME A 4000 REPAIR FOR CONSUMERS. THE VAN HAS BEEN CARED FOR MECHANICALLY AND WE HAVE DONE OUR PART, BUT HONDA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING. IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A TRANSMISSION ON ANY VEHICLE WOULD FAIL THIS EARLY. ON JUNE 6TH OUT OF THE BLUE AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE LAKE, I FELT THE SHIMMY AGAIN, IMMEDIATELY BACKED OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND THEN SLOWLY GOT BACK INTO THE GAS, AS I DID I FELT THE TRANSMISSION SLIP A LITTLE. LESS THAN 1,000 FEET DOWN THE ROAD I NOTICED SMOKE IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR AND IMMEDIATELY PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHIN 1,000' AS I CAME TO A STOP THICK BLACK SMOKE CAME FROM BENEATH THE VEHICLE AND SHUT THE CAR OFF, AND I REALIZED THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. I OPENED THE DOOR TO GET OUT AND FLAMES WERE COMING FROM UNDER THE RUNNING BOARDS. WITHIN 3 MINUTES THE CAR AND ALL IT'S CONTENTS WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY THE FIRE. IT WAS OBVIOUS FROM MY VANTAGE POINT AND THE PICTURES I TOOK DURING THE FIRE THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING AND THE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE RESULTING IN A THERMAL EVENT. 2003 FORDTAURUS SES 3.0L V6 55000 MILES, SETTING TRAFFIC LIGHT, LIGHT TURNED GREEN WENT 50FT. TRANSMISSION DIS-ENGAGED COULD NOT GET IT TO RE-ENGAGE (NO R OR D) HAD CAR TOWED TO TRANSMISSION SHOP. 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE SOME SAFETY RECALLS DONE. A FEW DAYS LATER I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND SMOKE STARTED BOILING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD SO I PULLED OVER AND BY THE TIME I GOT STOPPED AND GOT THE KIDS OUT SAFELY IT QUIT SMOKING. I RAISED THE HOOD AND COULD SEE SOME BURNED WIRING UNDER THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. WE GOT BACK IN AND DROVE ON THEN THE TRANSMISSION START
... ED SHIFTING WRONG AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT,IT FELT SPONGY. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO IS ASE MASTER AND FORD SENIOR MASTER CERTIFIED. HE REPLACED THE TRANS RANGE SENSOR AND TOLD ME THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH LEAKING BRAKE FLUID.HE REPLACED THE SWITCH AND ADVISED ME TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND HAVE THEM DO THE RECALL WHICH IS WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE. HE SAID THAT IT ALSO HAD A DAMAGED ABS MODULE AND WIRING AND THAT WAS PART OF THE RECALL.I CALLED THEM AND THEY SAID THEY ONLY DID THE REAR AXLE RECALL THAT WAS ON THE LETTER I GOT FROM FORD. MY MECHANIC SAID THAT THEY WERE REQUIRED BY LAW TO COMPLETE ALL SAFETY RECALLS WHILE IT WAS IN THEIR POSSESSION. I AM GOING TO TAKE IT BACK BUT I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT CAUSE IT HARDLY HAS ANY BRAKES. TOYOTA 2002 HIGHLANDER AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 77,754 MILES. REPLACED BY DEALER UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY AFTER PAYING $50 DEDUCTIBLE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND NEEDS A RECALL. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM. COST TO REPLACE WITHOUT WARRANTEE WOULD HAVE BEEN $4290.
