THERE ARE A TREMENDOUS NUMBER OF SIMILAR LEFT REAR AXLE SEAL FAILURES ON TOYOTA 4-RUNNERS AND PICKUPS 1999 - 2001 WHICH USE THE SAME AXLE LISTED IN THE ALL DATA WEB SITE. MANY OF THESE LIST MULTIPLE TIMES THE SEAL AS FAILED ON THE SAME VEHICLE. . I MY CASE WE HAVE BEEN GETTING THE SEALS FROM TOYOTA. THE REAR BRAKE ON THE LEFT SIDE IS COVERED IN AXLE GREASE WHICH IN MY OPINION WILL SERIOUSLY LIMIT MY BRAKING ABILITY AND COULD CONTRIBUTE TO AND ACCIDENT. THEY RESET THE ELECTRONIC SETTINGS TO FACTORY AND TOLD ME IT WAS FIXED. I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT AND IMMEDIATELY FELT THE SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY SAID THEY HAD TO CONSULT WITH VW FOR A FURTHER FIX. THEY GOT WITH VW AND CONCLUDED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED A REPLACEMENT FRONT CLUTCH PACK. SO THE PARTS ARE ON ORDER. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THIS WILL FIX IT SINCE I HAVE NEWLY LEARNED ABOUT ALL OF THE DSG ISSUES IN PREVIOUS MODELS WITH SAME TRANSMISSION THAT SEEM TO HAVE NO FIX. I JUST BOUGHT AN USED 2003 ACURA MDX ON JAN 30TH WITH 87,000 MILE ON IT. JUST AFTER 11 DAYS ON FEB 11, 2010, I NOTICED THAT SOME BROWN COLORED FLUID IS LEAKING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. IT'S NOT JUST DIPPING, THERE WERE LOT OF FLUIDS COMING OUT. I OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICE THAT THE FLUID WAS OVERFLOWING FROM THE RADIATOR RESERVOIR. TOLD HIM INTERNET SITE IS FLOODED WITH SIMILAR TRANSMISSION FAILURES AND THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. SAID AMERICAN HONDA WOULD ASSIST US IF WE PAY $1,944.24 OF THE $4,500 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA RAV4 THAT HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN LATE NOVEMBER/EARLY DECEMBER 2009. ODOMETER AT 91,304 MILES. IN TRAFFIC, CAR STARTED BUCKING (LURCHING) FORWARD WITHOUT PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. TOOK CAR FOR REPAIR WHERE IT NEEDED TO HAVE NEW COMPUTER INSTALLED AND VALVE BODY TRANSMISSION COMPONENT REPLACED AT COST OF APPROXIMATELY $2000. *TR
