I HAVE A 2002 RAV 4 WITH 139K MILES ON IT. LATELY MY CAR HAS BEEN HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING FROM FIRST GEAR TO SECOND GEAR. I NOTICED IT WITHIN THE LAST TWO WEEKS OF FEBRUARY. BUT THERE WOULD BE DAYS WHEN IT WOULD ACT NORMAL AND IT WAS FINE AND SOME DAYS IT HAD ITS PROBLEMS. WITHIN THIS PAST WEEK IT HAS BECOME WORSE. ... , SHIFT AGAIN AND BECOME ALMOST IDOL AND THEN GO. THIS WOULD MAKE ME NOT WANT TO STOP AT ALL WHEN DRIVING BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL JUST DIE ON ME. I WOULD GET REALLY AFRAID IF I WOULD GET REAR ENDED FOR MY CAR HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING. THE PROBLEM IS THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ECM. AFTER LEAVING MY HOME, I HAD STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN BEFORE TRYING TO TURN ONTO A BUSY STREET. WHEN I TRIED TO PULL OUT THE CAR SIMPLY WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. INSTEAD I SLOWLY ROLLED INTO THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. MY CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND AND THE DASH LIGHTS WERE FREAKING OUT (IE FLASHING ON AND OFF). THE EMERGENCY FLASHER LIGHTS WOULDN'T EVEN WORK AT FIRST. AFTER MAKING IT INTO THE MEDIAN, I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN "CONTROL" AND TURN OFF MY CAR. THANKFULLY IT RESTARTED AND WORKED RIGHT AWAY. I DROVE IT BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP (THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON). THE ERROR CODE WAS P0607 AND FAILURE OF THE PCM. THEY RECOMMENDED I GO TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR SINCE ITS UNDER WARRANTY FOR THAT. AT THE DEALERSHIP NO ONE WOULD EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED BUT THEY DID FIX IT FOR "FREE". I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY AND RELIABILITY OF MY CAR. I SEE ONLINE MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH OTHER VIBES AND TOYOTA MODELS.
