I WAS DRIVING ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TPKE AND SUDDENLY LOST SPEED. WENT FROM 70MPH TO 35MPH. MY WIFE AND I NEARLY HIT THE WINDSHIELD. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. STOPPED ON THE SIDE IMMEDIATELY AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN I STARTED IT AGAIN, WRENCH LIGHT WAS GONE AND THE CAR DROVE FINE. TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER WHO FIRST COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY FINALLY GOT THE CODE AND SAID I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION THAT COSTS $6,000. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON FOR A WHILE AFTER THAT WHENEVER I ACCELERATED A LITTLE, AND I WOULD LOOSE POWER AGAIN. NOW WHENEVER I START THE CAR, THE WRENCH LIGHT IS ON AND IT IS DIFFICULT AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO ACCELERATE. I HAVE TO DRIVE IT FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WITH THE LIGHT ON BEFORE I TURN OFF THE ENGINE SO I CAN HAVE IT GO AWAY WHEN I START THE CAR AGAIN. THIS CAR REPLACED MY FORD ECONOLINE WHICH I DROVE FOR OVER 200,000 MILES BEFORE ITS TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. IF I WANTED TO BUY A TRANSMISSION I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE FOR THE VEHICLE I WAS REPLACING. 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION FAILED ON GARDEN STATE PARKWAY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY ERRATIC SHIFTING, THEN COMPLETE FAILURE. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY SINCE I HAD MY FAMILY OF 4 IN THE CAR UNDER VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC. I THEN HAD TO GET TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. ... RUARY 2008 AT APPROXIMATELY 80,000 MILES. IT WAS REPLACED UNDER HONDA'S EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION. SO THE NEW TRANSMISSION REPLACED BY HONDA WAS 2 YEARS OLD WITH 49,000 MILES. AMERICAN HONDA OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE IN THIS INSTANCE AND SAID THERE DECISION IS BASED ON THE AGE AND MILEAGE OF MY VEHICLE NOT THE AGE OR MILEAGE OF THE NEW DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION THAT THEY PUT IN.
