THE WEEK PRIOR TO MY TRANSMISSIONS TOTALLY FAILING I BEGIN TO NOTICE HOW ROUGH IT WAS CHANGING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. THE CAR BEGINS TO HESITATE BEFORE IT CHANGED GEARS AS IF IT WAS SLIPPING, I COULDN'T ACCEPT THE POSSIBILITY. IT WAS A 2003 HONDA (SUPPOSE TO BE A RELIABLE VEHICLE). TODAY I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY TAKING MY YOUNGEST SON TO SCHOOL AND THE CAR JERKED VIOLENTLY WHICH FRIGHTENED ME EXT
... REMELY BUT I MANAGED TO PULL IT TOGETHER AND TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND CUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS. DROVE THE CAR AT A VERY LOW SPEED SAFELY OFF THE HIGHWAY AND DROPPED MY SON OFF AT DAYCARE. I PUT THE CAR IN LOW GEAR AND CHANGED GEARS MANUALLY AND DROVE IT TO AAMCO. AFTER DIAGNOSTIC I WAS TOLD IT WAS MY TRANSMISSIONS AND IT WOULD COST $2800 - $3200 TO REPAIR. I JUST KNEW IT WAS A SENSOR OR COMPUTER ISSUE NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS I THOUGHT OR BELIEVED IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION. PREVIOUSLY OWNING TWO OTHER OLDER MODEL HONDA'S BEFORE AND PROVIDING PROPER MAINTENANCE TO THOSE VEHICLES AS WELL AS THIS ONE. HAVING DRIVEN BOTH OVER 200,000 AND NEVER NEEDING A MAJOR REPAIR LIKE A TRANSMISSIONS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS WAS A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION. MY BELIEFS LEAD TO DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH TO SEE IF HONDA ALREADY HAD A RECALL. TO MY DISBELIEF THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME EXPERIENCE AND THEIR VEHICLE HAVING EVEN LESS MILES. THE SERIES OF EVENTS ARE TOO COMMON FOR THIS TO BE A COINCIDENCE. MY VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED TO A HONDA DEALER IN THE MORNING. I WILL BE SUBMITTING A COMPLAINT WITH THEM AS WELL. PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING AND INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED ONLY ISSUES ALL YEAR WITH MY 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK. IT HAS 55,000 MILES AND IN JUNE 2010 THE WIRING SHORT CIRCUITED BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSING THE THEFT SECURITY LOCK SYSTEM TO GO INTO EFFECT ASSUMING THE CAR WAS BEING HOT-WIRED. NOW MY BREAKS ARE CAUSING ISSUES, THE BREAK PEDAL SOFTENS AND GOES DOWN TO ALMOST THE FLOOR WHEN PRESSED EVERY 4TH OR 5TH TIME AND IT IS DRINKING BRAKE FLUID, I NEED TO TAKE IT THIS WEEKEND TO CHECK FOR A LEAK. NOT TO MENTION MY POWER STEERING IS MAKING LOUD WHINING SOUNDS EVERY TIME THAT I MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS IN TRAFFIC DRIVING UP THE DALLAS NORTH TOLLWAY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC...WHEN I DEPRESSED THE PEDAL THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE SO I FINALLY HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO PULL OVER AND LET THE CAR COOL DOWN. I TOOK THE CAR THE NEXT DAY TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, AND THEY STATED THAT MY VEHICLE HAD ALREADY RECEIVED THE RECALL, AND THEREFORE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE (TRANSMISSION NUMBER 2 I WILL CALL IT). I ASKED HONDA TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF THE TRANSMISSION NOISE TO SEE IF IT WAS SOMETHING ELSE. HONDA TESTED THE CAR, AND IT NOW AGAIN NEEDS ANOTHER AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. IF I REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AS THEY RECOMMEND, THIS WILL BE THE 3RD TRANSMISSION IN THE CAR AND I DO NOT EVEN HAVE BUT 117,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE! THE HONDA REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT THE NOISE WILL CONTINUE AND EVENTUALLY LOCK UP...WHICH COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT OCCURS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN, AND I AM NOT PLEASED WITH HONDA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THIS INSTANCE. UPON RESEARCHING, I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS POSTS ON THE INTERNET, AND OFFICIAL COMPLAINTS STATING THEY TOO ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES EVEN AFTER THE RECALL. HOWEVER THERE ARE NO CODES SHOWING AN OVERHEATING PROBLEM. HMMMM'' UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE TRANS WAS THROWING OF AN OVERHEAT CODE! I'M NOT SURE WHY THAT WAS NOT APPARENT FROM THE BEGINNING. THE LAPTOP SHOWED THE TRANS TEMP AT 270!. NO WAY! SO UP ON THE LIFT, AND PHYSICALLY CHECK THE TRANS TEMP AND FLUID TEMP. WELL, 160 ALL DAY LONG! TURNS OUT THAT THE THERMO BYPASS WAS FAULTY AND WAS MISINFORMING THE PCM THAT THE TRANS WAS OVERHEATING AND THE PCM WAS LOCKING UP THE FAN CLUTCH TO PULL MORE AIR TO COMPENSATE. NO ACCIDENTS YET, BUT I FEAR DRIVING IT AT ALL, SINCE THE SLIP COULD RESULT IN TOTAL LOSS OF POWER TO THE WHEELS WHILE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTS. I HAVE TOLD THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS AT VOLVO IN TULSA, OK ABOUT THIS ISSUE, BUT THEY HAVE NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. THEIR ADVICE IS TO PURCHASE A NEW CAR ON TRADE-IN OR SPEND $5,000 ON A NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO VOLVO EVEN AT 140,000 MILES. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS A POTENTIALLY DEADLY ONE IN THAT IT COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE AT ANYTIME AND ANYWHERE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. NOW THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRONIC CLIMATE CONTROL IS DEAD (NO POWER TO IT) AND THE SAME SERVICE TECHNICIANS AT THE SAME DEALER NOW TELLS ME IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR $1400. THE SUNROOF ALSO HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN AND WORKS WHENEVER IT WANTS. I DROVE MY CAR TO THE END OF MY ROAD TO PICK MY KIDS UP FROM THE BUS STOP. ONCE I PUT THE CAR IN PARK TO ALLOW THE KIDS TO GET IN IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. 2006 FORD 500 SEL WITH CVT. CAR BUCKS WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO 20 MPF. ALSO WILL NOT ACCELERATE SO I CANNOT PASS TRUCKS ON THE HIGHWAY. REAL DANGEROUS. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHILE STILL IN WARRANTY AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING EXCEPT TO TRY TO SELL ME A MASTER CONTROL FOR $2100 AND THEY WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THIS WAS THE PROBLEM.
