THIS IS FOR A 2006 AUDI A3 2.0T WITH THE FSI ENGINE AND THE DSG TRANSMISSION. BOTH MY WIFE AND I EXPERIENCE A FEW DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHERE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED UNEXPECTEDLY AND WE LOST THE ABILITY TO MAKE THE CAR MOVE VIA THE GAS PEDAL. NOT TO MENTION IT HAS BEEN ROUTINELY SERVICED UNDER WARRANTY AND IS NOT DUE TO ANY NEGLECT OR ABUSE. THE DEALER DID REPLACE THE FAILED MECHATRONIC UNIT AND EVEN NOTED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUIDS WERE ALL AT THE PROPER LEVELS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON, AND THE KEY WOULD NOT EJECT ITSELF. MINUTES LATER, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT, AND AFTER I RESTARTED THE CAR, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. (I HAVE PHOTOS OF IT ON). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DIFFERENT BMW DEALERSHIP--BUT ONCE AGAIN, THEY WERE UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THEY TESTED THE FUEL--THE FUEL WAS FINE. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD INCENTIVE TO FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR SO THAT THEY COULD BE PAID. I HAVE CONTACTED BMW N. AMERICA SEVERAL TIMES, BUT TO NO AVAIL. AT ONE POINT, I ASKED WHAT IT WOULD TAKE FOR THEM TO FIX THE CAR-- PERSONAL INJURY? PROPERTY DAMAGE? THE BMW REP SAID NO--BUT AGREED THAT I'D JUST HAVE TO WAIT IT OUT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. AFTER SENDING A LETTER TO BMW N. AMERICA THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP SAID I WOULD NEED A LOCAL DEALER TO CONSENT TO HAVING AN ENGINEER LOOK AT MY CAR. HE SAID HE WOULD CONTACT THE DEALER TO SEE IF THEY WOULD GRANT ME CONSENT. HE NEVER CALLED. I HAD TO CALL ON MY OWN AND BEG THEM TO HAVE AN ENGINEER LOOK AT MY CAR. TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD BEEN DRIPPING ONTO THE EXHAUST CROSS OVER PIPE. THERE IS APPROXIMATELY A 1.5 FOOT SECTION OF THE EXHAUST CROSS OVER PIPE THAT IS COVERED WITH BLACKENED TRANSMISSION FLUID. AS A RESULT OF THE EXHAUST CROSS OVER PIPE AND THE TRANSMISSION PAN BEING SO CLOSE TO EACH OTHER, THE CONSTANT HEAT FROM THE EXHAUST CROSS OVER PIPE HAS CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION PAN TO CORRODE, RUST AND LEAK TRANSMISSION FLUID RIGHT ON THE EXHAUST CROSS OVER PIPE. THIS IS IN REFERENCE TO THE 2005 AND 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDERS AND THE FAILING IN-RADIATOR TRANSMISSION COOLERS ALLOWING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THEM TO FAIL. MY 2006 HAS NOT FAILED BUT I AM REPLACING THE RADIATOR TODAY TO STAY AHEAD OF THE POTENTIAL FAILURE.
