I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. AT APPROXIMATELY 81,000 MILES I NOTICED A BURNING OIL SMELL AFTER DRIVING. I HAD THE CAR CHECKED AND THE TRANSFER CASE WAS OUT OF OIL. THE SERVICE DEPT. RESEALED THE TRANSFER CASE UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. AT ABOUT 96,000 MILES I HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED OUT BEFORE END OF WARRANTY AND AGAIN THE TRANSFER CASE LEAKED OUT THE OIL AND I HAD SERVICE ON TRANSFER CASE. TH

I HAVE THE CAR IN NOW FOR ROUTINE SERVICE WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSH AND FILL AND BECAUSE I AM GETTING A STRANGE TICKING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING. NOTIFIED THAT CVT FLUID LEAKING ONTO OUTSIDE OF TRANSFER CASE. NEEDS TRANSMISSION SEAL REDONE. OVER $2000. I AM GETTING THE SEAL REDONE UNDER TRANSMISSION 120,000 WARRANTY FROM NISSAN. DEALERSHIP SAYS I SHOULD GET THE TRANSFER CASE SEALS REDONE BUT THEY ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE TRANSMISSION WARRANTY AND I CANNOT AFFORD THE CLOSE TO $2000 EXTRA THIS WOULD COST. SEEMS THAT THE SEALS SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 8,000 MILES AS THEY SEEMED TOO AFTER BUYING THE VEHICLE NEW AND NOT REPLACING THEM UNTIL AFTER 50,000 MILES. AFTER READING MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT A PRESSURE VALVE AND OTHER TRANSMISSION ISSUES I BELIEVE THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE REPLACED AS I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT JUST REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION FORWARD SEAL(?) WILL NOT CORRECT THE LEAKING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION TRANSFER CASE AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL "GO OUT" AFTER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. I WOULD BET A MONTHS PAY IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE SAME ISSUES I HAVE READ AND BEEN ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE WITH THEM. I HAVE TALKED WITH THE QUALITY REP HERE AT OUR PLANT AND HE DID CONTACT FORD BUT THEY TELL ME THEY HAVEN'T HAD ENOUGH OF THESE GO OUT TO PLACE A RECALL ON THEM OR ENOUGH PEOPLE HURT OR KILLED. THAT IS THE MOST UNSAFE FAILURE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A CAR OF ANY TYPE. I AM A PRODUCT EVALUATOR FOR FORD AND TEST DRIVE NEW SUPER-DUTYS EVERYDAY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SUZUKI FORENZA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN SHE HEARD A DRIPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS CONSTANTLY ON. SHE CONTACTED GMC WHO REFERRED HER TO ANOTHER DEALER WHO REPLACED THE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE VEHICLE SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR. SHE STATED THAT THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND NO CODES INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE. SHE STATED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTED THAT SHE TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR ANY OTHER THE FAILURES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD FOCUS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE FROM THE PARK POSITION. IN ORDER SHIFT INTO REVERSE HE HAD TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND ALLOW IT TO SLOWLY ROLL BACKWARDS. UPON DRIVING THE VEHICLE HE ALSO NOTICED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 6TH GEAR. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS NOT PERFORMED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 50,000.

AT 64,000 MILES MY 2004 VW , AUTOMATIC, BEGIN TO "JUMP" GEARS BETWEEN THE 1ST AND 2ND GEAR AFTER IT WARMED UP. IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER. AFTER BEING TOLD THAT THE WARRANTY WAS OUT, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE CERTAIN IT WAS THE GEAR BOX BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT SHOW UP IN THE DIAGNOSTIC AS THE PROBLEM. ... PROBLEM. I DID NOT AUTHORIZE THE WORK AND TOOK IT TO ANOTHER VW REPAIR. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH IT NOT SHOWING UP IN THE DIAGNOSTIC. I HAVE NO CONFIRMATION OF THE PROBLEM AND THE WORK IS EXPENSIVE, THE ESTIMATE FOR THE GEAR BOX REPLACEMENT (WITHOUT GUARANTEE THAT IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM WAS IN EXCESS OF $2,000. THE OTHER GAMBLE WAS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT THE COST OF $5,000 PLUS LABOR.
