Vehicle: 2020 Kia Sportage Issue: Excessive Oil Consumption — TSB #TSB_ENG222 I am reporting a recurring issue involving excessive engine oil consumption in my 2020 Kia Sportage. The engine is consuming oil at an abnormal rate between scheduled oil changes, requiring me to add approximately 2.5 quarts of oil every month to maintain safe operating levels. This issue first began approximately 6 m
... onths ago and has been ongoing since. The affected component is the engine system, specifically related to abnormal oil consumption. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This issue poses a serious safety risk to me and my children. If the oil level drops too low, it can lead to sudden engine failure, loss of power while driving, or engine seizure. This creates a dangerous situation, especially when driving at highway speeds or in traffic, increasing the risk of an accident. The problem has been consistent and reproducible. It has been confirmed by an independent service center, which verified that the vehicle is consuming oil excessively beyond normal operating standards. I have brought attention to this issue through service evaluations, but no permanent repair has been provided to resolve the root cause. Prior to the issue, there were no clear warning signs. In some instances, the oil warning light only illuminates after oil levels have already dropped to a critically low level, limiting my ability to prevent potential engine damage or failure. This ongoing defect raises serious concerns about the safety, reliability, and longevity of the vehicle.Read more

Vehicle is a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (PHEV) subject to Safety Recall 78C (25V-766), issued November 2025. The recall states the engine may be contaminated with sand from the casting process, which can cause catastrophic engine failure, vehicle fire, and unexpected unrecoverable loss of propulsion. No remedy has been developed or made available by the manufacturer as of April 2026 — more tha
... n five months after the recall was issued. The manufacturer has confirmed in writing that an active stop-sale and stop-production order is in effect on all affected 4xe models due to this unresolved defect. Despite this, the manufacturer has simultaneously deemed the vehicle "operable" and denied a buyback request, requiring the consumer to remain in possession of a vehicle that cannot legally be sold due to its unresolved safety status. The manufacturer's written target window for the remedy was February–March 2026. That window has passed with no repair available and no updated timeline provided. The consumer has been without full use of the vehicle since January 2026 and has been paying out of pocket for rental transportation. The defect has not been confirmed by a dealer because no remedy exists for dealers to perform. No crash, fire, or injury has occurred, but the consumer has chosen not to operate the vehicle due to the known fire and catastrophic failure risk documented in the recall notice itself.Read more

I experienced a check engine light and intermittent starting issues with my vehicle (Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 2017). After researching the issue online, I found that there are active safety recalls for this vehicle related to the hybrid system (including battery and inverter/PIM). I immediately contacted the
... dealer: [XXX] An appointment was scheduled for April 1, 2026 at 4:00 PM. I dropped off the vehicle at approximately 3:50 PM and handed over the keys. Prior to visiting the dealer, I purchased a diagnostic subscription tool to better understand the issue, as many owners report dealers misdiagnosing these problems. The diagnostic results indicated issues related to the PIM (Power Inverter Module), including required updates and possible internal diode failure. This matches the symptoms I experienced, where the vehicle would intermittently fail to start. I have attached photos showing error messages related to PIM update and hybrid system faults. On the next day, the dealer informed me that they would only perform a diagnostic for $180 instead of processing the issue under recall. I believe this is incorrect, as the symptoms match known recall conditions (loss of power / hybrid system failure), and recall-related diagnostics should not be charged to the customer. The dealer is refusing to proceed under recall and is attempting to charge for diagnosis. This is a safety issue and should be handled under recall. The Auto Idle Stop system on my 2025 Honda Odyssey fails to restart the engine when the brake pedal is released quickly after a full stop. When this occurs, the vehicle stalls completely in traffic and must be manually restarted by the driver. This has happened multiple times and is reproducible. The failed component is the Auto Idle Stop/engine restart system. The vehicle is available for inspect

My safety and the safety of others has been put at risk multiple times because the vehicle stalled at traffic lights in active traffic, leaving me unable to accelerate through an intersection. The problem has been confirmed by Honda Marysville dealership. The dealer stated they could not repair the issue and advised me to modify my driving behavior as a workaround. No repair was performed. The vehicle has been inspected by the selling dealership. A message appears during the failure telling me to restart the car. The problem first appeared within the first year of ownership on a brand new vehicle with basically zero miles at purchase. The cause appears to be a defect in the Auto Idle Stop restart system that fails under specific braking conditions.Read more

Several times, the vehicle has failed to accelerate or respond to accellerator pedal input for several seconds. It seems to happen when switching from electric to hybrid modes, and when shifting between lower gears simultaneously. Once the switch to hybrid occurs the engine will rev high with some acceleration even if the accelerator pedal is no longer being pressed. This acceleration has happened
... when I had my foot over the brake pedal in anticipation of pulling over to stop since the truck would not accelerate. There are no warning lights or messages that appear on the vehicle. It is dangerous because it seems to happen when trying to accelerate from a lower speed. If it happens when trying to change lanes in stop and go traffic or while pulling into traffic other cars would have to brake hard to avoid hitting our vehicle that has experienced stalled acceleration. It is also dangerous because once the transition happens there is brief uncommanded acceleration.Read more

In December 2024, I was driving my 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid Sport on a clear, dry day after school when the car just completely lost power out of nowhere. I called my dad and after some time and turning the car on and off, the error messages disappeared and I was able to drive it safely back home. I tried to file an insurance claim (State Farm #51-78K9-28M) back then, but they blamed my driving because the Recall TN2 (Campaign 25V785) hadn't been announced yet. I ended up giving up on the claim because money was tight and my dad was worried about insurance costs, but the car is still dented and scraped from that day as the error messages disappeared after I turned on/off the car on the side of the highway. A week or so after taking the car in for an oil change, I was on the highway and heard a rattling sound coming from the engine. There were no indicator or warning lights from the dashboard. The car then stopped accelerating. It was on, and the accelerator increased the RPMs but the car did not move faster. I safely got home and checked the oil and it had less than a quart. There were no low-oil in

Separately, this week, while driving in the city, the engine again started making rattling sounds and completely shut off forcing me to pull off the road. Again, prior to the shut off there were no indicator lights. I was able to pull to the side of the road safely. I tried to restart the car and it would idle roughly befor the engine shut off again. After waiting 30 minutes, I checked the oil to see if the previous cause was the culprit, but this time the oil was still full. After 45 minutes, I was able to restart the car and drive home. I experienced an unexpected Loss of Motive Power (LOMP) event. Late afternoon traffic was fast, estimate 75-80 MPH. I attempted to change lanes get to the righthand shoulder and was very nearly involved in a high-speed collision with a semi-petroleum tank truck. He applied his brakes to avoid hitting me and started to jackknife, but regained control and continued. The truck missed by inches.
... At this point I had NO remaining power and was essentially coasting until I managed to cross the remaining two lanes of traffic to the shoulder emergency lane. I reset the error codes and continued home with no further occurrences. The incident produced the following warning lamps: Electronic Throttle Control Failure, Start/Stop System Failure and Check Engine, then a few seconds later the Limp Mode/LOMP event. I carry an OBD Scanning Tool with me to be able to clear the error codes when I encounter them. They are typically a cascading event that can result in LOMP. I have experienced a total of 26 of these error lamp events since 4/19/22 which have resulted in 3 LOMP's. The remaining 23 events I was able to reset before the inevitable LOMP. This is the first LOMP that nearly caused a fatal accident, the remainder I was able to safely find a place to stop to perform the resets. There is an active Manufacturer Recall Number93C, NHTSA Recall Number25V-586 that may cover this issue. The Recall Status is "Incomplete, remedy not yet available." While driving my 2021 Cadillac Escalade on an interstate highway at approximately 70 mph with my family, including two minor children, the vehicle suddenly and without warning lost propulsion, shut off, and shifted into neutral. This occurred in active traffic and created an immediate safety hazard. A warning message appeared instructing me to restart the vehicle. After several minutes navigating
... traffic, I was able to restart the vehicle briefly and exit the highway. Shortly thereafter, additional dashboard alerts appeared indicating critical engine and transmission failure. After exiting the highway, the vehicle shut down completely at a traffic signal and failed to restart. The vehicle was immobilized in an active roadway until police assistance arrived to prevent a rear‑end collision and a flatbed tow was arranged. The sudden loss of propulsion at highway speed placed vehicle occupants and surrounding motorists at serious risk. The vehicle is available for inspection and was diagnosed as having a seized engine on March 9, 2026, by Diamond Cadillac in [XXX] . This failure did not occur without warning. Prior to this incident, I repeatedly reported excessive oil consumption to the selling dealer, Otto Cadillac, from whom I purchased the vehicle in April 2025 as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. On two separate service visits, I reported oil consumption exceeding two quarts between recommended service intervals and requested that this be documented. I was advised that the consumption was “within tolerance” and was later informed—incorrectly—that this tolerance applied to my engine configuration. Otto Cadillac performed a recall-related inspection and implemented the manufacturer-directed remedy consisting of an oil cap replacement and a change in oil viscosity to SAE 40. No mechanical repair or deeper diagnostic action was taken. The subsequent engine seizure confirms that these mitigation measures did not resolve the underlying defect. I paid to have the torque converter replaced; however, the same transmission problem has returned. Ford has declined to provide further assistance. Additionally, the check engine light is now illuminated, which Ford attributes to a software issue. Despite multiple repair attempts and clear safety concerns, these problems remain unresolved. On 18 March 2026 I was driving at night at highway speed with my family (wife, [XXX] son, [XXX] daughter, and [XXX] son) when, without any warning, my 2023 GMC Sierra AT4 with 20,700 miles abruptly and violently shuddered and reduced speed from approximately 65 mph to 30 mph uncontrollably. Shortly after the initial speed reduction the vehicle presented simultaneous alerts that it was in "reduc

Although the vehicle claimed to be in reduced acceleration mode I was unable to prevent it from continuously slowing to 0 mph. I attempted to use the accelerator to move from the left lane of traffic to the right shoulder without causing an accident. However, the vehicle violently shuddered and would not accelerate or maintain speed. I managed to maneuver around traffic and stop the vehicle on the right shoulder. Due to the unlit highway and my family's emotional state after the incident, I determined the safest course of action was to attempt to get the vehicle to a nearby parking lot. After turning the vehicle off and back on, I managed to slowly drive with my flashers on (despite the vehicle continuing to violently shudder) approximately 1 mile to a Wal-Mart parking lot. Vehicle: 2019 Acura RDX (Technology Package) I am reporting a serious safety issue involving sudden loss of engine power while driving. I was able to restart the vehicle, but warning lights remained on. The next day, while driving on the highway under normal conditions, the same issue occurred again. While accelerating, the vehicle suddenly lost power and stalled in traffic, creating a dangerous situation. In response, the fuel pump inside the gas tank was replaced; however, the problem persists. The vehicle continues to display warning lights and still loses power when accelerating. I contacted an Acura dealership after seeing reports of a fuel pump recall for similar vehicles, but I was told my VIN was not included. Despite this, the symptoms match known fuel pump-related issues. Sudden loss of propulsion at highway speeds - 2023 Escalade. We easily could have been killed. I drive a 2023 Cadillac Escalade that I purchased from Motor Werks Cadillac in [XXX] . It was an extremely dangerous situation because the road is heavily trafficked by semi trucks, which I was barely able to avoid as I attempted to coast across all the lanes of traffic to get onto the shoulder of the road on the right hand side. Because the car was without propulsion, I was not able to get fully onto the shoulder, but mostly. This left the car in a precarious position because the semi's that we're driving by could easily have hit the car had they not been careful and veered slightly to the left. We easily could have been killed. There's more to the story, like the dealer telling me Cadillac is aware that catastrophic engine failure at highway speeds is a known issue impacting Escalades around the country, and including significant mental trauma that my children experienced by being stranded on the side of the road for several hours in the dark in a car that had no engine, no electronics and no heat. I purchased a certified preowned vehicle from Fowler Toyota in [XXX] , and after complaining multiple times about my engine being too loud, a musty smell in my trunk, the attempting to clean my trunk and me pointing out rust spots in the trunk and the smell returning multiple times, and a sulfur smell that continued to get worse month after month, they finally listened to me the 3rd week of Novemb
... er and discovered that this car that had a previous cosmetic accident to the rear of the car before being certified, indeed had a failing catalytic converter, a misaligned trunk as well as a busted strut among other issues. There was exhaust getting into my car, causing myself, headaches, my [XXX] and [XXX] to take a nap as soon as I would pick them up from school every day for the last month that I had it before they took it in November that all of this resolved after I was given a rental. I also periodically on a weekly basis, took my pregnant daughter to her doctors appointment so she was exposed as well. My husband occasionally rode with me also among other people. After 3 1/2 months of my car being “fixed”, it was returned to me and I was told it was in perfect condition and Toyota corporate had inspected it. Approximately 10 days after picking it up, I took a long drive out on a highway with traffic lights on my way back. I started to fall asleep. I feel like I had bricks on my eyelids and it was only 3:30 in the afternoon. I almost crashed into a wall on the side. I rolled my window down and instantly felt better. I purchased a carbon monoxide monitor and after three days it registered and went off at a level of 49. I tried to take it in after calling the dealer that day, but they did not have a car for me. They only had a 4Runner that I’m not comfortable driving so I had to wait another 36 hours on a car. The next day, the carbon monoxide detector went off and registered at 315 only in a parking lot. No lights on my car are showing anything is wrong. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ARead more

Vehicle experienced loss of power while in travel down a mountain. After inspection by a mechanic, CP4 pump had a catastrophic failure sending metal shards throughout the fuel system. This was less than a month after Fords SAFETY RECALL 24S78 that failed to remedy the problem, but before recall Number26V158 was issued.

My 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor has been suddenly losing power or stumbling upon initial acceleration. This has been occurring intermittently since it was nearly new. My truck now has approximately 10,500 miles. The problem has become increasingly frequent. It seems to occur most often when accelerating from a complete stop. The loss of power can last for several seconds, then afterwards, normal power
... is regained. It poses a safety risk since it has nearly caused collisions. Several times, the truck has lost power while making a left turn in front of oncoming traffic. It simply will not accelerate, and I find that I am stuck, unable to complete my turn and clear the oncoming traffic. Once when accelerating away from a stoplight, the truck lost power, and I was nearly struck by following vehicle. I have taken my truck to a local dealer who attempted to diagnose the problem and they didn’t offer a solution since they were unable to reproduce the problem during their road test. It has happened many times since then and I am scheduled to return the vehicle to the same dealership to attempt to diagnose and fix the problem again soon. The problem seems to occur, regardless of which drive mode the truck is in and also occurs with Electronic Stability Control both enabled and disabled. There are no warning lights or check engine codes shown.Read more

Car is a Gas Hybrid (not plugin). 3 occurrences over the last couple of months. Car emits a warning sound and a message on the dash says "Check Hybrid System. Stop Safely". Basically right after this message the car starts losing power and stops. Doesn't matter if on freeway or not. You need to find a place to pull over or you stop traffic wherever you are. Looks like Hybrid Battery is comp
... letely drained. Can not be re-created. Dealer has it now for the 3rd time. Dealer in the past have not been able to find cause/cure since this issue is not posting any errors to the onboard diagnostic system. Temporary 'fix' is to power off car, and power back on. Looks like this is a 'known' issue though as its being reported by quite a few people online.Read more

11/26/25 at 85,400 miles on the v8 6.2L L86 engine, I began experiencing rough idle, loss of engine power and propulsion, a ticking/ knocking noise at idle and when RPMs increased as well as blinking engine warning light. Diagnostics/Repair work was done by Reliable GMC/Cadillac of Roseville to fix an ignition coil that was giving the engine error code. 2/24/26 At 86,697 miles, I began having rou
... gh idle worse than before, loss of power when accelerating and driving, knocking sounds that increased with acceleration in RPMs as well as a blinking engine warning light. All spark plugs and wiring were changed by Cadillac which resolved engine error codes for misfire. Diagnostics/Repair was done by Reliable GMC/Cadillac of Roseville. 3/30/26 at 87,246 (only 549 miles since the previous work up,) the car began to idle rough, and have a audible rhythmic tapping and knocking when accelerating and increasing RPMs. During driving, I experienced flashing engine light, and then sudden loss of power and control of vehicle. 3/30/26 Veh towed toThompson GMC, of Placerville, CA diagnosed vehicle with full engine failure from broken connecting rods and crankshaft of engine. Dealership is recommending full engine replacement, costing approx $23,000. This engine failure occurred on XXX in [XXX] …a dangerous, steep and curvy 2 lane highway. The engine light and loud forceful knocking happened almost simultaneously, without warning. I was forced to perform a dangerous maneuver to exit the highway into a gas station. Had I not done so, the engine failure could have caused full control loss of the vehicle. Traveling approx 50-65mph with my wife, [XXX] son and 2 daughters, an engine failure put my entire family at risk of serious injury or death. Had I not acted quickly, the outcome would have been catastrophic if not fatal. The vehicle is currently at Thompson GMC, [XXX] and available for further inspection. We believe this may be related to NHTSA EA25007. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA)Read more

While driving, the vehicle lost engine power on three separate occasions (3/6/26, 3/10/26, 3/20/26) and had to coast to a stop on the road. One of the codes that appeared was P0087; the Honda dealership replaced the fuel pump kit (part # 06161-RLV-305) due to the fuel rail pressure being too low, but the vehicle continued to stall upon replacement after being picked up from the dealership. When it
... was brought back to them, they could not find a problem or replicate the stalling. This is a safety risk because the car is stalling for an unknown reason and will not start back up for 10-15 minutes. This is a safety risk to the driver and others because stalling could cause an accident or fatalities if the driver is unable to safely pull over. Fuel pumps are a known problem in 2017 Pilots and this vehicle was not included in the recall (SB 24-010). I paid $1694 for the repair from the Honda dealership and the problem is still occurring. There were no warning lights prior to the failure. Honda should reimburse me for this cost, but they denied responsibility for the cost despite Service Bulletin 24-010. These vehicles are unsafe and should not be on the road at all.Read more

Regarding NHTSA Recall 24V-700 which was first reported in September of 2024. We were told not to use the "fast" charging port because of a fire hazard. Using the slower charging port takes about an extra 8 hours per charge. This was supposed to be fixed in November of 2024. To date....almost 2 years later....not fix is available. This has caused me over 800 additional hours of charging time!

We were on the way home from a soccer tournament in [XXX] on rt. XXX and 4 hours into our trip the car's fuel pedal stopped responding and our speed started descending rapidly. The engine light was on with the vehicles stability system, Hill assistant, emission system, power system, TSA..... All of them were lit. Scared I put hazards on and pulled over on the side of the road. I waited about 20
... min and tried to start the car. It started and drove us home on side streets on speed 30-40 to [XXX] , wouldn't go faster and it was shaking while driving. It was quite terrifying and looking back I should have called 911, this was a first time ever I have been in a situation like that with my daughter. We got home at night. In the morning I called AAA to see if the battery was bad, they said no. The dashboard was cleared, no lights appeared and when I went to the Honda dealer they couldn't a identify the specific problem. They told me it could be a few things and told me to do repairs for $5000.00 not knowing if it would fix the problem. This first incident happened in summer 2025. I stopped driving the car on a highway and long distances, the dashboard lit up few more times but always went back to normal. A couple of weeks ago, when I again called AAA to check my battery, I was advised to go to AutoZone when the board lits up again. So I did today and was told it was code P0087 and had to do with the fuel pressure pump. So I went to my mechanic to diagnose the problem and they are in the process of repairing it. But after some research I found online that there has been a recall on Honda Pilots 2016-2018, but my car didn't qualify. So I called Honda manufacturing explaining my situation and warning them that the same thing happened to me and they said there was nothing they could do if my car's VIN # wasn't included. So I am writing to you to advise the traffic safety administration and suggest to expand the recall #XXX to more vehicles INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.Read more

I am reporting a Failure of the Remedy for NHTSA Recall 23V634000 (Kia Recall SC281). The original recall attempted to "fix" a High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) issue via a software update to the Engine Control Unit (ECU). This remedy has failed. My vehicle is currently experiencing the exact safety hazard described in the recall: loss of motive power and stalling at various speeds due to HPFP failur
... e. Despite the software "patch" performed in 2024, the physical hardware (HPFP) has now suffered a mechanical failure, rendering the vehicle unsafe to drive. Description of the Incident: On or about March 15, 2026, the vehicle began lose power and stuttered while in motion, posing a significant risk of a rear-end collision. Diagnostic scans (OBD-II) confirmed code [Insert Code if known, e.g., P0087 for Low Fuel Rail Pressure]. A secondary diagnosis at Courtesy Kia (Mesa, AZ) on March 18, 2026, confirmed the HPFP has failed. Failure of Manufacturer to Act: The manufacturer (Kia America, Case #XXX) is currently refusing to replace the failed component under the recall mandate. They are categorizing the repair as "Goodwill" because the recall was "closed" by the unsuccessful software update. The manufacturer’s refusal to remediate a known mechanical defect that causes stalling in traffic is a direct violation of the spirit and legal requirement of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Current Location of Vehicle: Courtesy XXX. The vehicle is grounded as it is unsafe to operate.Read more

My husband was driving our 2019 F250 on the highway at over 75 mph and the truck totally shut down/stalled without warning, could have killed him or another person, lucky he was able to coast to the shoulder and stop, we took to the Ford dealership and was caused by the faulty CP4 fuel pump the truck was made with that has had class action lawsuits and recalls, we are out of pocket over $14,000 to
... rebuild entire fuel system due to the fact that fuel pump is NOT compatible with our diesel fuel leading to metal shavings build up in fuel system. Our truck still has no recall on this and it should and we should be reimbursed for the extremely expensive and lengthy repair, this is a very dangerous issue. The mechanic also stated he "duplicated" the stall when he go on the highway and hit speeds over 60 mph, thank goodness he is ok as well.Read more

I encountered two incidents of the same type. One was on Friday, March 27, 2026, the same day I picked up the vehicle from a local Chrysler dealership, where software updates and issues related to recalls were supposedly completed. The vehicle was at 38% battery level at the time of pick up from the dealership parking lot. After driving it for about 14 miles, the battery level depleted to <1% and
... that's when the "Stop Safety. Vehicle will shut off soon" displayed on the dashboard. I slowly drove for less than a minute and parked the vehicle and turned it off. Then restarted and drove for less than two minutes, but again the same warning ("Stop Safety. Vehicle will shut off soon") displayed; I turned it off again. After taking a few minutes break, I restarted it and it was showing 1% battery; it gave me a little distance to travel until unfortunately the same warning displays. Fortunately, this time I was close to a place where I can charge the battery. The battery got charged to 100%, partly on the night of March 27th and the remaining in the morning on March 28th. The second incident was on March 29, 2026, on Sunday afternoon. As soon as the battery level reached <1%, the exact the same warning ("Stop Safety. Vehicle will shut off soon") was displayed. I slowly drove the vehicle to the side of the road and called my insurance company; I reported the issue and requested them to tow the vehicle to a nearby Chrysler dealership. As of now, the vehicle is at the dealership parking waiting for diagnosis. Based on my initial conversation with the customer service person, they don't know if this is considered part of any recall or not. Not only was I stranded on the road because of the above incidents, not having the vehicle at the moment is straining me a lot - trying to handle personal and work schedules.Read more
