At only 1600 miles on the odometer, I took the car in for oil service and ABS recall. Dealer inspected, said I was OK. They then Flashed the EBS module with new firmware. 4 day's later (less then 6 miles since dealer visit and arriving home after a brief 45mph, 6mile trip, the check engine light came on. As I was 2 blocks from my house, proceeded home. Engine was in limp mode. Suddenly the warning
... chime sounded, all warning lights came on. Stopped, tried to change gear selector to "R", car would not change gear. Could not select any gear, forward, reverse, neutral or park. Warning messages would not stop. Chime occurred about every 2 seconds, messages from "no forward breaking", No ABS, call dealer, no side blind spot, do not shift transmission. Car was on a hill, and would not go into park. Unsure about break's, so had to chalk wheels using rocks. Could not shutdown engine. Tried to press "stop" button many times, including holding the stop button in for 5 seconds then for 30 seconds. Engine still would not shut down. Finally after several minutes, and many presses, engine finally stopped. Car would not restart, and could not be moved out of the street. Finally a tow truck arrived and he pulled the emergency manual neutral strap, located by removing a panel by the left drivers side knee. Dealer has had the car for over a week, no loaner or rental car, and are very bad at keeping me up to date and returning phone calls. Last I heard was "waiting on approval and ordering parts". on [XXX], we received the Tucson back from dealer from a complete engine replacement due to recall. On [XXX], our college son was returning to school from visiting a friend. He said he thought the car sounded a little different. There were no engine light warnings, so he didn't think much of it. About an hour into the trip, he started to smell gas, a few minutes later he started to smell smoke
... and saw smoke coming into the vehicle through the consoles. He looked behind him and saw a trail of fire and smoke. He decided to pull over but the brakes FAILED. He went into the median, applied the emergency brake and waited until the car slowed down. He was able to grab his phone that had fallen beneath his seat from driving onto the median. Once he was out of the vehicle, he could definitely see the car was on fire. It was entirely engulfed in flames within seconds. He called 911 and they were able to put out the fire within 30 minutes, but they commented that it was a difficult fire to extinguish. The car was completely destroyed front to back. We do not know if this problem started with engine, fuel tank or brakes. It is one thing when your car is on fire and you can pull over and get out. It is entirely another when you need to get out of your car but the brakes fail. You have to delay getting out of the car to ensure you don't hurt others on the road and save yourself before it explodes. We are lucky he is alive but are worried for others with this car. My wife is [XXX] and I am [XXX] old. We purchased the 2016 Buick Encore with 29,000 miles from Buick GMC of Beaverton, Oregon on [XXX], expecting that it would out last both of us, since we are retired and only drive to the store and doctor's appointments; my wife has miraculously survived Stage IV cancer since February 1, 2019. The Encore is our only car and we depend on it for all transportat
... ion. We love the vehicle, changed the oil about every 3,000 miles, and have had no complaints for almost six years. On [XXX], my wife and I were driving home from shopping, in rain at night on [XXX] north bound, left lane, uphill at 55MPH in moderate traffic on a six-lane divided freeway. Suddenly the car lost half power, began missing and shaking badly, speed dropped to about 30 MPH with cars serving behind us, flying past us honking. We were panicked, not knowing if the car would seize up completely or the engine would explode. Fortunately, we limped off the highway without having to stop. We took the car back to the dealership where we bought it, for service. The next day they emailed a video of their inspection of the vehicle showing Cylinder 1 has very low compression of about 60 when normal should be 180 to 210 psi, which indicates a likely blown piston. April 30, 2019, NHTSA Service Bulletin 19-NA-090 describes the identical symptoms the Encore is experiencing: Misfire and low compression in one or more cylinders. Both the Buick GMC of Beaverton dealership and General Motors, 800-521-7300 are refusing to honor the original 70K mile warranty since they're indicating the warranty expired on 01/21/2023. We are devastated that because we pampered the vehicle and only drove it 17,000 miles in nearly 6 years, we are being unfairly penalized. GM admits that if we had driven the vehicle more and this same engine failure occurred at just 49K miles prior to January 20, 2023, they would immediately replace the engine. Help! Lights did not go away, got my codes read again and was same error message of coil 1 misfire. In the past week car would not accelerate past 15mph after start up. ... since that is a very known defect for my exact make and model of vehicle. Took into my Honda Dealership where I purchased my Accord brand new. To me this seems this is directly correlated with the current fuel pump recall issue, I asked the service advisor if that was the case and she said she’d get back with me, and that she’s currently waiting to hear back from my Lifetime Powertrain Warranty company (Fidelity Warranty Services) to see if the fuel injector replacement is covered by them. If this make and model has time and time again been known to have faulty fuel injectors and head gasket issues that directly put the drivers safety at risk and end up causing thousands of dollars in repairs, Honda needs to take responsibility for rushing out vehicles without properly testing them first. Instead, I was met with outright dismissiveness and disrespect. Executive Judianne Di Leo, in particular, showed a complete lack of concern, scolding me for copying other JLR executives on emails, refusing to help, and failing to direct me to anyone who could.
