In early May 2023 I was driving my 2018 Elantra vehicle on the expressway. I had hot an area where there was traffic and had to slow down and move along with the speeds everyone else was going. When I slowed down my engine quit. Everything turned off and the car was stalled. I was able to turn the car back on and start the engine but there was a loud knocking sound coming from the engine and when
... applying my foot on the gas it wasn't going anywhere. It stalled in traffic again. I put it in park, and restarted it and got enough gas for it to move and get off the main road. I called a tow company and had a certified mechanic take apart the engine $600 and Inform me the engine was shot. The car had maybe 80,000 miles on it. I had no idea what to do. The car sat at the repair shop for several weeks while I figured out what to do. I had it towed to a Hyundai dealership and had them look at it. They told me that there was no recall and that since I wasn't the original owner their powertrain warrenty was not valid. They did their diagnosis, another $300 just for them to tell me the same thing the other mechanics told me, the engine was shot and needed to be replaced. They put together a list of items that needed to be replaced and repaired and it came out to over $17,000 and Hyundai would do nothing for me. A vehicle with less than 80,000 that's engine fails is a recall in my book. It's now been over 2 years and I continue to pay for a car I cannot drive, and Hyundai still doesn't accept responsibility. This is a faulty car and would never recommend to anyone. Look at all the complaints regarding the engine and powertrain, obviously this is an issue. Hyundai needs to acknowledge this and replace these failing engines. Maybe by the time I'm done paying this car off they will take responsibility and the NHTSA will fully support the individuals that are owed a vehicle or engine replacement.Read more

I have had issue with the propulsion system. Sometime the vehicle "jumps" when just touching the gas petal, other times it takes a long time to get up to speed. I typically see slower power generation when going around corners, power seems to drop. Additionally every once in awhile I'll be driving and the emergency alert system comes on unexpectedly and unnecessarily, which in itself causes panic.
... The lane departure on this vehicle ping pongs you back and forth, it doesn't perform well at all and needs to be addressed. Aloy of software updates are needed. The fuel gauge (miles til empty) and the speedometer appear to read incorrectly. VW knows about this problem as I informed them on my 30,000 mile check up, but they don't have a fix for it yet. All these things can be safety hazards and again needs to be addressed.Read more

... 60,000 on the replaced high pressure fuel pump in 2019, less than the original fuel pump. BMW now says they are not going to repair this because of the age and mileage on the car. My position is the mileage on the car is irrelevant. It’s the mileage on the fuel system replaced in 2019. In addition, I was not notified of the recall in 2021and now the question is “ is the high pressure fuel pump replaced in 2019 the same fuel pump replacement part that came with the car when new? Obliviously the 2021 recall may have upgraded the fuel pump to satisfy the recall. If so, that should have been put into my car in 2021. BMW has been very deceiving on answering my questions.Read more

I had been having issues with my vehicle randomly stalling out when I would start it and put it into reverse. It also was hesitating during acceleration at times. On 9/2/25 I took it to a Nissan dealership for these issues and was told they couldn’t find anything wrong. I specifically asked if it could be related to the recall I had just received notice about in the mail and was told ‘probably
... not’. The issues persisted off and on the next few weeks and I was about to call them to let them know things were still not working right and some things had gotten worst (like almost stalling out in the middle of the day at a light). On 10/21/25 (6 weeks after the dealership said there was nothing wrong with my car) I started having major problems driving home and the heat would not work. I barely got it home and by then it was running very rough. Husband looked and said there was almost no antifreeze and added some. He said I couldn’t drive it and we had to tow it in the morning. Tow truck driver nearly started it on fire because he couldn’t get it into service mode and it started smoking terribly for the 30 seconds it was on. Nissan Dealership (different one) said there were five 2022 Nissan Roque’s with the same problem ahead of me. After almost a week they called to tell me Nissan is replacing the ‘engine long block and turbo’. I’ve had to rent a car at $400/week and have no idea how long this is going to take. Thankful I wasn’t driving when things got really bad. Also - NO service lights have ever come on indicating anything was wrong at any point.Read more

Hyundai is ignoring the fact that many Ioniq 5 have an ICCU defect that happens without warning and can leave you stranded with a bricked car that you can’t drive. They have a software recall for it that I had performed at the dealer. This did not solve the problem because it failed yesterday and I was stranded far from home. They continue to put this same part in the 2025 model. I have a 2024.

Follow-Up to Complaint #11696210 This is a formal update to my original safety complaint regarding my 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe (VIN: [XXX] ), which suddenly decelerated from 50 mph to 10 mph on October 11, 2025 — a terrifying incident that occurred immediately after an over-the-air (OTA) Uconnect software update. Since submitting the original complaint, Jeep/Uconnect confirmed that my vehicle wa
... s affected by the faulty OTA update, but they have refused to provide any documentation of what occurred. They admitted the update was involved but claimed they had “no access” to the engineering or software details. They referred me back to the dealership, which had originally denied any recall existed and still has not provided a clear explanation of what was done. I have made repeated attempts to escalate my case through Jeep, Uconnect, and Stellantis, but: -My case was closed prematurely despite the seriousness of the issue -No one will provide documentation of what software version was installed, rolled back, or repaired -No one will confirm whether the recall fix was fully implemented -All email escalation contacts have since been removed I’ve been left without answers and with growing concerns about my safety in this vehicle The recall issued days after my incident matches exactly what happened to me, yet I’ve been treated as though this was an unrelated or minor issue. It was not. I was extremely lucky I wasn’t in heavy traffic when the malfunction occurred. I am urging NHTSA to further investigate Jeep/Stellantis's handling of this recall, including their lack of transparency, poor documentation practices, and refusal to provide consumers with the information they need to feel safe in their vehicles. There are no warning lights on in the vehicle. I don’t know if warnings appear during this few seconds of power failure because it happens very quickly and my focus is trying to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. This is a serious safety concern because it has occurred while trying to move through an intersection or pull onto the road. The Honda High Pressure Fuel Pump Recall is an ongoing and critical safety campaign impacting numerous Honda and Acura models primarily from the 2017-2022 model years. The defective fuel pump component can fail unexpectedly, causing sudden loss of engine power while driving, significantly increasing the risk of a crash or fire. I am the manager and co-owner in an automotive mechanic workshop in M
... iami, and in the last year several Honda Odyssey have arrived at my workshop with this problem with the high-pressure fuel pump. All of these cars were manufactured in 2022 and 2023. Symptoms begin after accumulating more than 80,000 miles traveled. The main symptoms are: Problems and delay when starting, loss of power, vibration, noise and tapping of the fuel lines at the inlet of the engine. This vibration and noise are felt much louder from inside the cabin, because the fuel lines are attached to the fire wall of the engine compartment. High fuel consumption, reducing the autonomy of the vehicle up to about 12 to 14 miles per gallon, when the Odyssey has a proven autonomy between 19 and 21 miles per gallon under normal conditions. Strong smell of fuel. The vibration increases by increasing the revolutions per minute of the engine, causing the connections of the fuel lines to suffer deterioration, cracking and loss of pressure, causing fuel leaks that could be the main cause of fire of the engine and the vehicle, in turn putting the life of the driver and his occupants at risk. For a few weeks I wanted to submit this request for extension of Recall to Honda for the Odyssey models of the years 2022 and 2023 through the NHTSA. But it was not until today that I decided to do it because I also own a 2022 Honda Odyssey EX-L with more than 90,000 accumulated miles, just 2 weeks ago my vehicle began to present all these symptoms mentioned above.Read more

The engine and turbo system failed in my 2017 Infiniti Q50 Signature Edition (VIN [XXX] ). The vehicle remains at CarMax Naperville, where it has been since March 2025. Internal repair orders show CarMax performed two failed inspections in August 2020 before selling the vehicle as “CarMax Certified” on September 3, 2020. The vehicle should not have passed certification. Shortly after purchasi
... ng the vehicle, I noticed it was pulling hard to the right. During my first tire rotation and oil change, the technician informed me that all four tires were severely dry-rotted and unsafe to drive on. CarMax had represented the vehicle as fully inspected and road-ready. These conditions suggest the vehicle had sat for an extended period after a prior four-point accident and should have never been certified for sale. None of this was disclosed to me at purchase. In March 2025, the engine failed. CarMax later reported that a replacement engine was installed, part #10102-6HN3A (single-turbo) instead of the required #10102-5CH2D (twin-turbo VR30DDTT). This engine does not match the original factory specifications for my VIN. Infiniti of Naperville confirmed that my vehicle qualifies for a free extended turbo and engine warranty (TSB P4A05/P4A06), but CarMax declined to use the required OEM one-time-use parts, voiding that coverage. CarMax has refused to provide inspection reports, diagnostic data, emissions test results, or engine serial numbers despite over forty written requests. I have no documentation confirming what work was performed or whether the vehicle is safe or compliant with emissions standards. The car has now been sitting at CarMax for over seven months, with rusted brakes and unknown mechanical condition. They are just concerned about me coming to get the car. This raises serious concerns about safety, emissions compliance, and potential consumer fraud involving improper certification and undisclosed prior damage. The dealership says after my warranty is over, I have to pay out of pocket, but I don't see why, when it's been an ongoing issue and VW needs to have an extended warranty, because I know I am not the only one with issues. Reddit has thousands of complaints about VW, but it's our problem that they couldn't produce a reliable car. The dealership has been aware of this for 4 years since I bought my car in June 2021. This time the dealership "fixed" the issue in a little over a month, only for us to drive it home and immediately have the issue occur again (on a busy highway - thankfully no one in my family was injured or killed). The car is currently at the dealership for a third time. Combine this issue with an active recall on the charging system for over a year with no known fix, this vehicle no longer feels safe for my family. The car battery is still well within it's warranty period. I do not feel safe driving this car any longer and have experienced dangerous situations three times in this vehicle in the past year (for myself, my family, and potentially others on the road). I was slowly entering a handicapped parking place right in front of a business. The distance from the front of the parking space to the building wall was about 15 feet, one car length. I approached the place to stop in the parking spot when in a split second the car violently surged forward and would have crashed into the cinderblock wall had there not been a supporting post on the building and a
... metal frame with equipment which stopped the forward movement. The surge was explosive, almost like the acceleration of an airplane taking off. The whole incident took a second or two. There was no opportunity for any driver response to the surge. Had we not been using seatbelts, the front seat passenger & myself would have gone into the windshield and perhaps been killed or very seriously injured. Had I not been driving toward the building when the violent episode occurred, I likely would have hit someone in the parking area and killed or seriously injured people or crashed into park cars. Our injuries were relatively minor due to the seatbelts. The passenger will need therapy on her neck and back. A week later we are still emotionally stressed. There were no indications there was anything wrong with the car prior to this incident. It had only 27,000 miles with new tires and no apparent service issues. This hybrid car, which goes about 22 miles on a charge, was about at the point when it would have transitioned from electric to use of the gasoline engine. The badly damaged car was towed to a lot and later picked up and taken to the insurance facility for evaluation. I have not yet heard back. A NYS trooper investigated. He told me twice to have the Insurance Company look at possible vehicle defects when they examined the vehicle for insurance purposes. I passed on that information, but it appears the insurance company only evaluates the car for damaged. I have not yet gotten a report back yet, but it appears the car is totaled.Read more

The technician indicated this could be related to a camshaft and lifter issue, which matches the symptoms outlined in GM's active propulsion system recall for 6.2L engines. Suggests GM aware & has not yet confirmed full recall coverage/repairs. This issue presents a significant safety risk because the engine could experience sudden power loss or failure while driving, potentially leading to loss of propulsion or control. These symptoms are identical to those described by GM in their recall documentation concerning valve lifter and camshaft failures. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealership, and all documentation, diagnostics reports, and service notes are available for inspection upon request. Warning/check-engine lights first appeared in October 2025, and the problem persists. Based on GM's recall acknowledgment of similar failures, I believe this defect should be fully covered under the existing recall, and I am requesting NHTSA's review to ensure manufacturer addresses this safety-related defect promptly and without cost to owners.Read more

BMW N63 Engine Powertrain Issues 2012 535i The N63 engine, utilized in various BMW models including the 2012 535i, has been subject to multiple customer complaints regarding premature timing chain wear and other powertrain-related issues. This led BMW to introduce a "Customer Care Package," detailed in Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) B110614, to address the concerns reported by multiple owners an
... d noted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under ID Number 11016414. A primary cause of the issue is accelerated timing chain wear. The N63 engine's design features timing chains that are prone to stretching prematurely. This stretching can disrupt the precise timing of the engine's valves, leading to a cascade of problems. As a consequence, owners have reported a variety of symptoms, including the illumination of the "drivetrain malfunction" warning light, noticeable engine noise, excessive vibration, and potentially catastrophic engine failure. The "drivetrain malfunction" message, in particular, is a frequently cited indicator of this underlying powertrain problem. To address these widely reported issues, the N63 Customer Care Package was implemented. This service bulletin instructs authorized BMW technicians to perform a series of diagnostic tests. The main objective is to detect if the timing chains have stretched beyond acceptable tolerances. If excessive wear is confirmed, the TSB provides a detailed procedure for the necessary repairs. This often involves replacing the timing chains and related components to restore proper engine function. Beyond the core timing chain replacement, the Customer Care Package also includes several proactive and preventative measures. Technicians are instructed to check and potentially replace other components, such as fuel injectors and boost solenoids, which may have been impacted or contributed to the engine's performance issues. Furthermore, the service includes reprogramming the vehicle's softwareRead more

On October 11, 2025, while traveling approximately 50 mph, my 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe suddenly and without warning lost motive power. The vehicle rapidly decelerated to around 10 mph. Thankfully, no vehicle was immediately behind me; had there been, a rear-end crash likely would have occurred. I was able to pull to the shoulder and had to completely shut down and restart the vehicle to temporarily
... restore power. I drove the vehicle directly to the authorized Jeep dealership after the incident, and it has remained there since that date. A recall related to this exact failure was issued afterward. My VIN is confirmed as included, and NHTSA status currently shows “Recall Incomplete — Remedy Not Yet Available.” Despite the safety failure already occurring and no remedy existing, Jeep Customer Care closed my case prematurely. I do not feel safe operating this vehicle until a repair is defined and completed. I am reporting this because the hazard remains unresolved, and owner support and protection feel inadequate. This defect occurred before the recall announcement and represents a confirmed loss-of-power safety event that could have resulted in a serious crash.Read more

We have had this truck a total of two months. The dealer told us that there were not recalls on it, come to find out there are two. The recalled part froze up and shattered that shot metal shavings all through the fuel system. This caused the truck to lose all power and shut down on a busy road which could have led to a major accident had it not been after rush hour. After towing the truck to a re
... pair shop, we found out about the recalls. Come to find out, the warranty company nor Ford will pay to fix the vehicle due to nothing available. How are we the consumer liable for this when it is under recall and Ford has been working on a fix for a year? We have been told a fix would be around $10,000.Read more

VIN: [XXX] Current Mileage: 70,440 Vehicle: 2018 Lexus LS500 In November 2021, I purchased this vehicle with approximately 19,000 miles. Routine maintenance was performed every 7,500 miles. At approximately 44,000 miles (in 2023), the vehicle experienced severe engine failure following warning lights for Parking Support Brake Malfunction, Secondary Collision Brake System Malfunction, Check Engi
... ne, Reduced Engine Power, and Traction Control Off. The vehicle lost power and stalled. The engine began emitting smoke and was replaced under manufacturer warranty in March 2024 at a Lexus dealership. The repair exceeded $50,000 and included a new engine block and related components. Shortly after receiving the vehicle back, additional major failures occurred: Fuel pump failure resulting in “Reduced Engine Power” and restricted speed (~20 mph). The pump was replaced under warranty (approx. $4,600 cost). Brake system failure occurring three days after that repair (January 2024). As of October 28, 2025, the vehicle has again failed and is currently at Christian Brothers Automotive with the following findings: “Fuel pressure sensor located under the intake manifold is actively leaking fuel when the engine is running. This creates a fire hazard and can affect engine performance and fuel pressure regulation. Immediate attention required.” This repeated pattern of engine and fuel-system failures within a short period after a full engine replacement raises serious concerns about component reliability, workmanship, and safety. Fuel leakage near the intake manifold poses a significant fire risk. There are currently no open recalls addressing this defect. I request that NHTSA investigate potential defects or systemic issues in the engine or fuel-delivery systems of the 2018 Lexus LS500, as these failures appear premature, hazardous, and recurrent despite dealer and manufacturer repairs.
