Daytime running light strip (LED) on the passenger side stopped working at about 70,000 miles. The main daytime running light also does not work on that side. ONLINE FORUMS ARE FULL OF THIS VERY SAME COMPLAINT, most failing at about 50-60k miles. The LED strip is housed within the entire headlight assembly, so the repair is around $2,000. The part alone is $995 from VW. There is no option to sim

Simply put, the headlights repeatedly blow out with no apparent reason found. Bulbs have been changed multiple times personally and by professionals -- both headlights went out nearly simultaneously in September of 2024 and I replaced the bulbs myself, assuming it was a fluke or the bulbs had simply aged out. At the beginning of March, 2025, the passenger-side bulb went out again and I brought it
... to my dealership to get checked out. They couldn't find anything wrong, and I had them replace the bulb again. Now, for the third time since I bought the vehicle in April or May of 2024, I have to replace the passenger-side bulb again. I'm returning to the dealership to see if there's anything else to look for, but a quick internet search shows that there are lots of others experiencing this same problem without any kind of solution in sight. This is obviously not normal.Read more

I have owned a 2022 BMW M240i for a few years now, and as it ages out of warranty, I have replaced both headlights a total of 4 times. I fear additional pairs will be required as unfortunately these headlights tend to crack from regular driving. I have spent a few hours on a couple different M240i user generated resources, and there are several reports of this model's headlights cracking either du
... e to improper housings from factory, or being overly tightened. The end result is the same, however, a complete or mostly complete fogging of the headlight reducing illumination of the light(s) to almost nil. I have spoken to several BMW reps and they tell me there is no fix for this issue and that it persists even in the newer models, including the 2025. That's 4 years in total of a model with faulty headlight assemblies and the only fix BMW has is to replace these $2k headlights with a new set that will eventually incur the same issue. This needs to be addressed with a TSB or a remodel of the headlight housing entirely. It's unfair to consider headlight assemblies as wear/tear items when no collision has occurred. The main issue, however, is the lack of safety this will inevitably cause at night while driving on dark roads with only 15-20% light output.Read more

The taillights leak, fill with water, and the bulbs short out. When this happens, the rear lights (taillights, brake lights reverse lights, turn signals) stop functioning. The 2015 Volkswagen Beetle was in a minor accident that was rear-ended by another vehicle. No one was injured. The other party claimed responsibility and the vehicle was repaired and the other party paid for the repairs. The problem is with Volkswagen not having the OEM safety equipment available to complete the repairs. The specific part is a spoiler attached to the rear trunk lid that increa
... ses the visibility of the brake light built into the rear trunk lid. In traffic this vehicle has only two brake lights within the rear fenders lower to the ground. The spoiler attached above the brake light that is attached at the top of the rear trunk lid, sits above the tail lights and the brake light can be seen by the driver in the vehicle behind the VW. VW claims that this part is on backorder. It is not available within the United States. I believe Volkswagen is refusing to manufacture this critical safety part for repairs of their vehicle. I have been told by several dealers that this part is not available and is on back order. I have tried to locate this part from VW dealers in Texas and out of state also. They all tell me the same thing. Its on back order. I understand this vehicle model is out of production but is being reintroduced again in 2025. Volkswagen should be responsible for providing original parts, especially critical safety parts. Hopefully the NTSA can bring this problem to Volkswagens attention and they will make the responsible safety decision and provide a critical safety component of this vehicle to the customers of their company. On 1/1/25 around 5PM when it was getting dark, I was driving in my 2022 Toyota Venza LE on the highway in the rain when all of a sudden my left headlight off, windshield wipers stopped working and experienced a host of other electrical issues - engine temp doesn't read, apple carplay stopped talking to device, side mirrors lost power, traction control disabled. Only my engine temp not being able to read when the engine was cold that morning. It quickly resolved once the engine warmed up. I drove my car to Toyota dealership in which they spent over a day isolating the issue to faulty headlight assembly sending error codes to the ECU and jamming other zones on the car. They unplugged the left headlight assembly and told me I was ok to drive home. Ultimately I asked for replacement of the headlight and the light was restored and all issues did not return. I no longer have the original headlight assembly for inspection. I reported my steamed up headlight assemblies to NISSAN while performing oil change and tire rotations early on after my purchase which was 12302016 so end of year model clearance. The moisture in the headlamp affected night visibility. Felt safety concern but told the small weep hole was part of the product design. Why would any manufacturer put a weep hole on the headlamp if it is sealed w/ gas
... kets & engine compartment assembly sealed w/ gaskets at bulb/wiring harness? While driving in snow/rain, dirty water enters the assembly causing the temporary fogging affecting vision, especially after a warm day and moisture trying to escape via evaporation. ONLY PURE WATER CAN EVER EVAPORATE & DEBRIS DIRT left behind is impossible for owner to clean as this is CLOSED HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. Other complaint within a few years of ownership was the oxidation of the poor quality plastic used on the headlight assembly. I BOUGHT A CAR COVER to reduce sun damage once I had issues since this affects safety/driving visibility. I cannot drive w/ HIGH BEAMS in a CITY. I only have 55K miles as I have other vehicles that I drive & am very disappointed as I must now replace the entire two headlight assemblies BUT DO NOT WANT ANY OEM PRODUCT as I see their product as DEFFECTIVE and POOR DESIGN. MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN WITH VISIBILITY WHEN USING HEADLIGHTS which is OK if on due to rain during the daytime BUT NIGHT TIME VISIBILITY is TERRIBLE. Reported finally up the chain at NISSAN but want to report to your safety division. I cannot believe they were able to get away with this design FLAW & dismiss our concerns over safety for years. Told $2,000 for them to replace but I don't want their DEFECTIVE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES so now forced to research and purchase elsewhere with NO WEEP HOLE. The low beams went out and you have to replace the entire front lighting assembly.
Incident date: Mar 1, 2025
The headlights and high beams are dim . When the high beams are on other cars oncoming are not affected as they never flash their lights because my high beams seem as though they are just headlights. Also the fact that the high beams shine like headlights, there is no option for brighter lighting which makes it hard to see far ahead. I live in a rural location off of a narrow highway with down slo
... pes with water at the bottom on both sides of the highway where large wildlife such as deer are plentiful . Insufficient high beam lighting imposes unsafe travel conditions since the headlights are dim and the high beams are how the headlights should be leaving no option for brighter visibility. I noticed the lighting being dim years ago but I thought it was just something to do with my trucks lighting until I began searching online again for a remedy and found many other owners of the same year make and model with exactly the same issue. Therefore in conclusion perhaps is a manufacturer defect. My truck is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, it still runs great, I keep it well maintained and I intend to keep using it for as long as we both shall live. I am [XXX] and obviously my truck is over 20 years old and runs great, it would be terribly upsetting if an accident were to occur due to insufficient exterior lighting. I cannot remember exactly what it was I had previously contacted NHTSA regarding my truck , though the exterior lighting is of greater concern now. This issue closely resembles Audi recall campaign 97cb (NHTSA campaign id 16v642000), with details available at [xxx] . In my case, the marker light itself is functioning properly, but the vehicle is displaying a false error message: "front right side marker light defective. " this poses safety risks because the erroneous warning distracts drivers from the road and could lead to the system failing
... to alert the driver of an actual side marker light issue in the future. Many owners of the same model and year are disabling their side marker lights entirely to avoid the error, as evidenced in discussions such as those on [xxx] . Repairing this issue typically requires replacing the entire headlight assembly, with costs ranging from $2,400 to $5,300, making it prohibitively expensive for many. Although Audi initiated a recall (97cb) for a similar issue, it was limited to a specific subset of vehicles, and the widespread nature of this problem in other vehicles outside the recall’s VIN range suggests a broader defect. Given these safety risks, high repair costs, and the frequency of the issue, I urge the NHTSA to investigate whether this problem warrants a broader recall or corrective actions by the manufacturer. I am writing to formally document and express serious concern regarding a lighting issue with my Mercedes-Benz EQS, which presents a significant safety hazard for both me and my family. Since December 2024, I have been facing a recurring problem with a dark shadow or image that appears while driving, particularly noticeable after dark. This shadow often resembles the shape of a person and unexpec
... tedly enlarges or shifts, creating an alarming visual that demands immediate attention while driving. On numerous occasions, I have instinctively applied the brakes suddenly, believing that someone was standing in front of the vehicle, only to realize it was a visual distortion. This is not only disturbing but also dangerous, especially when driving at higher speeds or in traffic. Due to this ongoing issue, I have been unable to use the vehicle for commuting to work and have avoided driving it during family outings after dark. It has affected my daily routine, my family’s comfort, and our overall trust in the vehicle's safety. In the past few months, I have visited multiple authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships—including San Jose, Stevens Creek, and Fremont—all of which confirmed the presence of the shadow issue. I have also shared the concern with a Mercedes Product Manager, and the email correspondence is attached for reference. Despite their acknowledgment of the issue, all parties have stated that this visual distortion is "as per design" and that they are unable to offer a solution. I was further informed that this issue exists across all Mercedes-Benz EQS vehicles, and therefore, nothing can be done. This is unacceptable. A known design flaw that causes visual confusion and repeated panic braking should not be dismissed. The fact that multiple dealers acknowledge the problem but claim it cannot be fixed raises serious questions about product safety and accountability. I am filing a complaint regarding a serious safety defect in the 2014-2023 Dodge Durango racetrack taillight assembly. Financial Burden: Replacement costs exceed $1,800, and vehicles cannot pass state inspections with a failed taillight. Widespread Issue: The defect affects multiple model years, indicating a manufacturer defect rather than wear and tear. The class action lawsuit highlights Dodge’s failure to address this safety issue despite numerous complaints.
