On or about April 27, 2021 the driver's side rear taillight assembly randomly fell off between Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona on Interstate 10. The assembly is large, containing the taillight, brake light, turn signal light and back-up light. It could have (and may have) hit another vehicle or at least caused it/them to engage in a dangerous turning maneuver to avoid hitting the large assembly while
... on the freeway. In addition, the RV was then rendered unsafe and in violation of the laws of virtually every state, as well as federal regulations, due to lacking the required lighting assembly. This has also happened to another RV unit from the same manufacturer (Regency). The driver's side taillight assembly fell off this RV during windy conditions on Interstate 40 while traveling through Arkansas on April 2, 2021. There are photos of the missing assembly for both RV's. My RV was inspected by a collision repair facility in California and their determination was two fold: 1) the RV body was molded in way that would not permit the taillight assembly to properly fit in the cavity. The tolerance was off by up to 1/4 of an inch. 2) the taillight is a stock mercedes sprinter taillight assembly which has three hard point connections (top middle, and bottom. However, the body of the RV only has two points to connect the taillight assembly (top and bottom) thereby leaving the middle area open to intrusion by wind and other elements. As a result it was very difficult to find a facility to repair/replace the assembly ( they "did not want to touch it"). It has now been replaced by a collision facility which used a silicone sealant and HD velcro in the HOPE that the assembly will not fall off again in predictable weather conditions. There was no warning or other indication that the taillight assembly was going to fall off. Finally, Regency claims to manufacture just 200 to 250 of these units annually. This incident therefore involves 1% of their annual production.Read more

I bought my Rav4 in September of 2017 brand new and within 6 months I had a dead battery needing replacement so I replaced it via AAA. Since then, I have had the battery replaced an additional 3 times! I always serviced my car at the dealer and took very good care of it. Then after 50k miles, I started having odd lighting issues…both headlight bulbs had to be replaced within 3 weeks of each othe
... r and one high beam bulb, and then my tail lights went out! Then I would occasionally have trouble starting the car and with a natural gas smell, rotten eggs. Which could be a catalytic converter or fuel pump issue but can also be the battery. Well, my Rav was in the driveway with a dead battery and with no tail lights and had been sitting there for a month since I mainly drive our Sienna. My Rav just caught on fire and was completely destroyed. No one was hurt but if the Sienna had been out there it would’ve caught on fire and it burned the garage door…Rav totaled! I also had a very expensive brake job last year and think those are faulty too. But this fire….was bad and I can’t get a car of equal value with what i received for the total loss. What is Toyota doing about this? Less than 4 yr old well taken cared of Rav 4 XLE that I paid cash for and now can’t even replace with a Corolla! There were no warning lights ever, not even for the dead battery’s. And less than 6 months prior to the fire, it was serviced at my Toyota dealer and they said all was good. The firemen that came also told me that Rav4 fires have increased and I searched on Consumer Reports and sure enough…what was explained was a carbon copy of my experiences. Thank god no one was in it when it started, but the house could’ve caught fire as well. Toyota needs to do something for those of us who had their cars totaled due to fire…just the time invested finding a replacement is worth something….not to mention the time vested researching vehicles before I bought the Rav4. plus the depreciation, etc….Read more

This automobile has had the Tesla recall completed, replacing the 8GB with the 64GB. However, this fix is temporary and after a few months the control and information screens are malfunctioning and with ever-increasing frequency. I understand Tesla’s recent update ensures basic driving functions will continue to be operational during a screen blackout but it’s at best distracting and at worst
... plain dangerous depending on how lights/HVAC are set prior to the screen freeze, not to mention distractions associated with a sudden loss of navigation and an inability to control other components. As a frequent highway driver this is dangerous, even after experiencing various versions of this event. Per Service Dept., the only existing actual (non-temporary) repair for this is replacement with the newer version of the MCU, yet Tesla insists on using language as a loophole, calling the MCU2 an upgrade- which it was, but now as the sole remedy to restore previously existing functionality and safe operation of the effected vehicles, this should not be categorized as an option or an upgrade. Owners should have a better course of action than having to pay for an unwanted “upgrade” to regain original functionality.Read more

On the dark evening of 23 January 2021 a deer from the side of the Ohio Turnpike came onto the edge of my lane of roadway, did a Uturn and kicked the front fascia of my car. I did not see the deer in time to slow further, which would have allowed emergency maneuvers. If I was dr
... iving this same car in Europe, or Canada or Japan, I would have Adaptive driving beams on my vehicle. There is often only seconds to act at night, at speed and the glare from oncoming drivers contributes to this lack of safety on American Roads. NHTSA has allowed Tesla to experiment with unproven technologies such as ‘AutoPilot’ on American retail vehicles, with LIDAR/RADAR, cameras, software and now the removal by TESLA of the LIDAR/RADAR functionality, which, allegedly, has resulted in deaths of drivers on US roads. However, NHTSA has been negligent by delaying passage of revisions to FMVSS 108 to allow ADBs on US Roads, a proven safety technology in the EU and around the world, requested by Toyota and MB and other manufacturers in 2013 and since. This is inexcusable on NHTSA part. This either represents incompetence or negligence on NHTSA part, since there has been insufficient regulatory revision in eight years! As a former Emergency Medicine Physician and now Radiologist who has traveled to Canada and the EU, and having cared for patients injured at night in vehicle crashes, as well as being involved in my own that could have been prevented, I can not understand the delay by NHTSA of eight years to complete this approval when the overwhelming evidence proves the technology of ADB not only safe and effective but enhancing safety of all concerned, including pedestrians. Here is a link to the most recent article supporting this proven technology: https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/news/we-need-to-legalize-adaptive-driving-beams-already-for-safety-s-sake/ar-BB1gUAhRRead more

The issue is well known within Honda elements and a previous recall have been issued for other Honda models including the Honda civic.
