My headlight on the right side stopped working after 6 years and I took it to the Porsche dealer to get it fixed and it turns out that it is a non-serviceable part and that it will need to be replaced as a pair and the bill is well over $7000. The dealership confirmed that it was the LED module that burned out and the whole headlight assembly will need to be replaced. This is of huge concern due t
... o the fact that this is a major safety item for the car and that it should be a simple bulb change that should be serviceable. Because the right headlight was not working, the left headlight seems to be not aiming correctly as it is dipped towards the floor. There was no warning light or messages to tell me about the issue. I found out my headlight was out while driving at night. This is very dangerous when driving at night with minimal lighting. It is outrageous that I need to change both my headlight to change the led module that burned out. I did a lot of researching and there has been quite a large amount of people have the same issue with the headlight especially for model year 2019-2021. I feel that the headlights are defective or wasn’t designed well and the repair or replacement of these headlights should be covered. I reached out to Porsche North America for assistance to this matter but my car is out of warranty and they will not cover the cost of replacement. The headlight or LED module for the low beams should be designed to last the life of the car or be serviceable and affordable to be replaced.Read more

The 2025 Honda Ridgeline has an unsafe, faulty, improperly designed auto headlight system. Oncoming headlight detection is delayed by several seconds, or non-responsove at all. This creates s situation where my vehicle's headlights "automatically" blind oncoming traffic with high beams. This causes frustrated oncoming drivers to turn on their high beams, blinding me. Dozens of members there have confirmed that their later model Ridgelines experience the same safety issue. Incident date: Feb 25, 2026
While driving home on 2/21/26 at night in light sleet/snow conditions, I noticed a dramatic decrease in headlight effectiveness in my Honda Ridgeline. When I stopped to check the headlights, they were coated with ice that needed to be scraped off. This is my first vehicle that has LED headlights so this was unexpected. I never had this issue with my previous vehicles that used incandescent /haloge
... n headlights. I suspect this snow/sleet buildup is due to the fact the LED headlights, by their nature, are much more thermally efficient and generate less than 10% of the heat of an incandescent light source. As a result, LED headlamps do not generate enough head to melt any snow/sleet accumulations on the headlight lens. While this might not be an issue in southern states, it is a significant safety and visibility issue in areas where winter snows are the norm. NHTSB should consider requiring a wiping mechanism (as is done on Volvo headlights) or implement a defrost mechanism into the headlamp assembly or lens of vehicles with LED headlamps.Read more

Drivers side head lamp adjuster broke inexplicably. I noticed while driving that the headlight was pointing down towards the ground. No warnings of any kind. The vehicle has never been in an accident. I took
... it to the dealer and they told me that it could not be fixed and the entire headlight assembly needed to be replaced. It’s a very extensive process that I cannot do. The cost is almost $2000. I contacted a local repair shop and they quoted a similar price. I contacted GM and they said it was up to the dealer to determine if they would offer cost assistance for the repair. The dealer refused. GM accepted their decision and could not help with the cost. How do they expect someone to afford this cost? It’s not a part they ever expected that needed to be replaced or else it would not require the front bumper to be removed. The light is designed to last as long as the vehicle so why would they not fix an obvious defect. I’ve seen others online complaining of the same problem. The adjuster arm is made with cheap plastic and separates inside the assembly. There’s no way to get to it. It is unsafe to drive at night. I cannot see the road and any light reflectors on the center line flash in my eyes because there’s essentially only headlight is pointing directly at them.Read more

I bought my car at McGrath Hyundai in chicago in May 2021. It’s been in their shop 30 plus times for various and repeated issues. The technicians and service advisor Christine Tonelli at McGrath, knowingly and willfully misdiagnosed my car, attempting to cover up the issues stating that there was no issue. I am filing a safety complaint regarding water intrusion into the rear tail lamp assembly of my 3-year-old Tesla Model 3. The rear tail light has progressed from minor condensation to active water accumulation and visible pooling inside the sealed housing. This is not light fogging — there is standing moisture inside the assembly. The vehicle has not been involved in any collision and there is
... no visible external damage to the lamp. I have already been pulled over, and drivers behind me have indicated that the affected tail light is not clearly visible. Reduced rear illumination creates a serious safety risk, particularly at night or in poor weather conditions. A malfunctioning tail lamp increases the likelihood of a rear-end collision. Rear lighting is a federally regulated safety component. Water intrusion into a sealed LED lighting assembly creates risk of electrical malfunction, corrosion, and sudden loss of rear illumination. The vehicle is currently out of warranty due to mileage; however, it is only three years old. A sealed LED tail lamp is not a wear-and-tear item and should not fail due to normal mileage accumulation. This appears to be premature sealing failure. I contacted Tesla Service regarding this issue. Their written response stated that because the vehicle is out of warranty due to mileage, any repairs would be at my expense. They did not address the safety concern or the presence of internal water accumulation. There are numerous reports from other Model 3 owners describing similar tail lamp water intrusion issues. I am requesting that NHTSA review whether water intrusion into sealed rear lighting assemblies constitutes a safety defect and whether further investigation is warranted.Read more

I am writing to formally submit a safety complaint regarding my 2018 Porsche Macan. I have experienced a significant issue with the vehicle’s headlights, which I believe poses a serious safety risk. Description of the Issue: The headlights on my 2018 Porsche Macan have failed without any prior warning or indication. There were no dashboard alerts or error messages to notify me of a problem. The
... failure occurred suddenly while driving at night, resulting in a complete loss of forward illumination. This created a hazardous situation, as I was unable to see the road ahead and other drivers were unable to see my vehicle clearly. Safety Concerns: The headlight failure happened unexpectedly and without any warning. This issue significantly increases the risk of a crash, especially when driving at night or in low-visibility conditions. Upon inspection, I was told the entire headlight assembly would need to be replaced, which is costly and concerning for a relatively new vehicle. Request for Investigation: I am aware that other owners of the 2018 Porsche Macan have reported similar headlight failures. I urge NHTSA to investigate this matter, as it appears to be a widespread and potentially dangerous defect. Reliable headlight operation is essential for safe driving, and sudden failure without warning is unacceptable. Thank you for your attention to this matter. ... s concerning for several reasons: 1.The vehicle is a 2022 model year and has been properly maintained with no accidents or external damage. 2.The DRL is an integrated LED component that should reasonably last the life of the vehicle. 3.The failure of a non-replaceable LED strip forces replacement of the entire headlight assembly, resulting in excessive and unreasonable repair costs. I contacted Volkswagen Group of America requesting goodwill assistance, as this appears to be a premature component failure rather than normal wear and tear. Despite escalation and review with a supervisor, my request was denied. The only assistance offered was a 20% dealership discount, which does not adequately address the issue. I believe this situation reflects: •A potential design defect (non-serviceable LED component) •Unreasonable repair costs due to lack of modular repair options •Failure of a component that should not fail under normal conditions in such a short time frame Desired Resolution: I am requesting that Volkswagen provide goodwill assistance to cover a significant portion (preferably full coverage) of the headlight assembly replacement. Additionally, I encourage Volkswagen to review this design approach, as it places an unfair financial burden on customers for failures of non-serviceable components. I am seeking a fair and reasonable resolution consistent with customer satisfaction and product reliability expectations.Read more
