When using the I-Pedal feature the brake lights do not come on at any point when lifting off the accelerator pedal gradually. When my car is configured to one pedal driving mode (iPedal), the brake lights only illuminate when the accelerator pedal is fully released. This means the car may decelerate rapidly (up to 0.25G or 2.5m/s^2 according to a report) under regenerative braking, while the brake lights remain off. I believe this is a safety hazard that can increase the chances of rear-end accidents.
Incident date: Nov 1, 2022
The brake light does not activate in a way that would signal to other drivers that the vehicle is stopping or slowing down, while using higher regenerative braking. The ipedal mode can have a significant amount of deceleration and not activate the brake light, even coming to a full stop and not activating the light, if the driver's foot is not completely off the pedal. I have been told by other d
... rivers that my brake lights were out when I expected that they were working. Testing this with a odb2 device and another driver following behind me confirmed that the Kia EV6 does not activate brake lights when it should. Additionally, there is a video on youtube titled "Electric cars prove we need to rethink brake lights", demonstrating this on a similar vehicle, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0YW7x9U5TQ There is no indication in the vehicle that the brake lights are not functioning as a driver would expect. The lights do work when using the brake pedal and are not normally "malfunctioning". The nearest dealer has confirmed that the driver needs to take their foot off of the accelerator to actuate the brake lights. In my opinion, the vehicle should be recalled to apply a fix that signals braking and intent to slow down that is consistent with the deceleration of the vehicle.Read more

When heavy regenerative braking is used, the car decelerates very quickly. Despite this, the brake lights do not turn on. The Ioniq 5 when using level 2 regen, level 3 regen, and i-pedal (one pedal driving), does not turn on the break light when decelerating, even if coming to a full stop unless the driver removes their foot completely from the pedal or hits the break pedal. These driving modes allow the driver to perform regenerative breaking almost to a complete stop without turning on the break lights and warnin
... g other drivers behind you. With i-pedal specifically, the driver can 100% perform all stop and go traffic maneuvers without using the break and never have the break lights activate. This appears to be the default behavior of all Ioniq 5 vehicles and is controlled via software. The vehicle does not appear to measure rate of deceleration so even if the driver were to decelerate rapidly, the brakes would not activate. This has been extensively demonstrated on youtube and the best video example of this problem can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0YW7x9U5TQRead more

MCU1 onboard computer system becomes overloaded with data that eventually and periodically causes the computer system to "crash" and requires a reboot, even with 8 GB eMMC replacement having already been installed. This means that vehicles with MCU1 (generally model S and X manufactured pre-2019) are increasingly becoming safety risks on the road because the MCU1 system crash can occur at any time
... , even while driving (not just when the car is going through it's start-up cycle). Whenever this occurs, it means the driver is unable to change the headlights which is especially harmful during dawn and dusk hours since these models do not have daytime running headlights. Drivers may be unable to use turn signals, unlock power doors (the Model X has power-driven doors on all sides) and advanced systems may be inoperable during the MCU1 rebooting process. This issue can be resolved by replacing the MCU1 operating system with the MCU2 operating system, but Tesla requires MCU1 owners with Auto Pilot Computer version 1.0 to pay $1,750 for what they are calling an "infotainment upgrade." This is disingenuous terminology used by Tesla because the MCU1 operating system is not just for "infotainment" - it is beyond that and includes significant safety features as mentioned above (headlights, doors, locks, windows, ADAS, and more). Tesla needs to cover the cost of replacing MCU1 with MCU2 or a new system that is stable and does not experience frequent data crashes. In other words, there must be a fix beyond the 8GB eMMC "band aid" that has not resolved the chronic failure of MCU1 systems. This is a continuing safety issue and driving hazard for all Tesla owners with MCU1 until a recall is issued.Read more

Vehicle was driven to Porsche of Arlington (Virginia) for warranty service and a Virginia safety inspection. Service advisor reported that safety inspector informed him the vehicle passed inspection; however, it was noted there is fogging, spiderweb type cracks, and discoloration on the inside of each headlight lens. It was discovered through conversations at the dealership and online research t
... hat a chemical reaction between the factory lens coating and the gas emitted by the headlight bulbs was the likely cause. Lumen output has gradually decreased as the issue grows worse and both lenses become more opaque in appearance. Porsche of Arlington advised us the factory warranty had expired, as we had expected. They completed a thorough inspection of the headlight assemblies, took photos at the dealership, and further suggested we contact Porsche Cars North America to file a claim to ascertain whether a remedy could be made under 'good will' as this is undoubtedly a safety issue. Porsche Cars North America responded via e-mail and advised us that 'customer safety and satisfaction is our top priority.' They assigned a case number and informed us we would be hearing from a representative for additional information. After several weeks of phone calls, Porsche Cars North America determined that no 'good will' would be provided as this issue involves/is related to the vehicle's glass/lens and therefore excluded from any adjustments or consideration from Porsche Cars North America. We are asking NHTSA to investigate this issue for the following reasons: 1) This is a growing safety issue as lumen output is steadily decreasing 2) This is unrelated to regular service/maintenance or any culpability on behalf of the owners 3) Absent replacement, this issue cannot be corrected by the owners 4) It has been reported to be a growing issue among numerous Porsche Macan owners 5) We have exhausted our options with the dealership and Porsche Cars North AmericaRead more

I have a 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with the LED lighting package. I live in the mountains of Colorado and my first heavy wet snowstorm I drove home in at night on my dangerous windy tight canyon road home the headlights as well as the factory fog lights got completely covered in snow and ice to the point were I had to pull over about 10 times on my 10 mile drive home to clear the lights
... off as they got so covered that the light was completely gone to the point of not being able to see anything...not the reflectors on the side of the road or anything at all. I've never seen anything like it. Even though you can see dim light through the snow and ice the actual light emitted in this state is unusable. I risked getting hit every time I had to stop in the middle of the road (no shoulders just a cliff to the river below and cliff walls on the other side) to clear the lights off to get another straightaway down the road. This was terrifying and I think Jeep and Stelantis should recall these lights and replace them with Heated units like cars in Europe are mandated to have. This is such a safety issue and my solution will be to install some aftermarket old school halogens but this should still be addressed because somebody could get killed in their first bad snowstorm with these lights. They work fantastic in most conditions but when in a bad snowstorm these lights are totally useless and it is not safe to stop in the middle of the road when no shoulder exists to clear these lights over and over. Please address this and hopefully other people have filed complaints over this as well, I can't believe I'm the only one and the Jeep forums are full of threads about this! Thanks for any help on this. Please let me know if you need more info.Read more
