The vehicle is a 2015 Kia Soul with the 1.6L GDI engine. The check engine light came on solid, and a dealer later confirmed diagnostic trouble code P0420, indicating the catalyst system efficiency is below threshold on bank 1. The catalytic converter and engine are still on the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. This condition matches the defect described in Kia’s SC176 safety r
... ecall for 2012–2016 Soul vehicles with the 1.6L GDI engine, in which overheating of the catalytic converter can lead to internal engine damage and even a fire. My concern is that a failing catalytic converter or related engine damage could lead to sudden loss of power, engine failure, or fire while driving, which puts my safety and the safety of others at risk. The problem has been confirmed by an authorized Kia dealer, which documented the solid check engine light and DTC P0420 on a written repair estimate. In that document, the dealer referenced recall SC176Y as the possible applicable recall and noted that it would need to contact Kia for coverage because the vehicle has a branded rebuilt title. To my knowledge, the manufacturer has not yet performed any SC176‑style ECU logic update, compression test, or catalytic converter/engine inspection on this vehicle, and the manufacturer has declined to escalate or review recall coverage for this defect. The check engine light and P0420 code remain the primary warning indicators, and they first appeared shortly before the dealer visit on the repair estimate date.Read more

The two components that failed were the water pump and the coolant control valve which caused the engine to overheat, resulting in me having to pull over along the side of a busy highway putting me at risk for injury while the vehicle cooled down. It would be available for inspection upon request. This was dangerous mostly to myself due to having to pull over on the side of a busy highway and wait
... until the vehicle could be somewhat ok to be driven the rest of the way home. I had to drive very slowly home with my hazards on at a very low speed. Vehicle was brought to a nearby Chevy dealership the following morning. They had the vehicle for two days and claimed they could not get the problem to present itself, however, within five minutes of me driving it off the lot it overheated resulting in having to pull over again on a busy highway. An independent service center had the vehicle and diagnosed it initially as an intermittently failing water pump. This repair did not resolve the issue 100% as the vehicle began to slowly overheat again within 18 minutes of highway speed driving. Car was towed back to repair shop from my place of employment. They were able to get it to present the issue and diagnosed it as the coolant control valve. This has so far appeared to resolve the overheating issue. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance rep/others. The only warning that came up was on the info screen above the steering column advising me the engine was overheating and was in idle. Immediately upon seeing this I pulled over to prevent any damage. Temp gauge was all the way in the red. Fan was blowing hard. This has never happened previously and there were no other warning lights of any kind on the dash to indicate an issue. This incident happened on 6/2. Please be advised, this vehicle has since been repaired and has ran me $2300 as it is out of warranty.Read more

2020 Hyundai Palisade with Lambda II 3.8L GDI V6 (G6DJ) engine experienced complete engine failure due to oil starvation from excessive oil consumption through piston ring bypass. ... ther Hyundai engine variants but explicitly excluded the Lambda II V6 (G6DJ) from the bulletin's scope despite the same piston ring bypass defect being present. HMA subsequently issued Campaign 9C9 referencing Palisade oil consumption but with no defined remedy and inadequate owner notification. Vehicle was purchased as a Certified Pre-Owned Hyundai. At time of CPO sale, HMA had documented knowledge of the Lambda II oil consumption defect. HMA denied warranty coverage for engine replacement, estimated at $12,000. HMA's own TSB establishes 1 quart per 1,000 miles as the threshold for defective consumption. Independent engineering analysis confirms the Lambda II G6DJ piston ring geometry produces oil bypass consistent with that defect threshold. Engine is available for inspection upon request. Defect was confirmed by HMA-authorized dealership oil consumption test. No warning lamps appeared prior to failure. This defect is believed to affect a large number of Lambda II-equipped vehicles sold in the [XXX]. Prior federal class action litigation (XXX v. Hyundai Motor America, C.D. Cal.) documented HMA's corporate knowledge of the Lambda II oil consumption defect prior to the date of this vehicle's CPO sale. Leading up to this issue, there had never been any check engine lights, low oil or low oil pressure warnings, or any such notifications that this issue was developing. Oil changes were performed regularly without any concerning oil quality findings. There is a known connecting rod/bearing safety recall involving my make, model, year of vehicle, but Honda is telling me the manufacturing date is not applicable. On May 15, 2026, my 2023 Chevrolet Colorado (2.7L L3B turbocharged engine, approximately 49,000 miles) lost its entire engine oil charge while in normal operation, and at NO point did the low-oil-pressure warning light illuminate to alert me. While driving, a loud buzzing/vibrating noise developed near the upper engine and the center dash area. The vehicle continued to run with no oil-pressure war
... ning of any kind — no low-oil-pressure light and no audible oil-pressure chime. Concerned by the noise, I immediately pulled into a parking lot and checked under the hood. The engine oil dipstick was completely dry, showing no oil whatsoever. I added 3 quarts of oil and the dipstick still showed no reading, indicating the engine had been operating with a critically low or empty oil level. Throughout this entire event, no oil-pressure warning activated. There was no external oil leak, no puddle where the vehicle is normally parked, and no oil in the coolant reservoir, which suggests the oil was being consumed or lost internally rather than dripping out — a condition the driver cannot see or anticipate without a functioning warning system. Drivers depend entirely on the oil-pressure warning system to alert them before oil starvation causes catastrophic engine damage or sudden engine seizure. An engine that seizes without warning while the vehicle is in motion creates an immediate and severe crash risk — sudden loss of motive power in traffic, on a highway, or in an intersection. The complete failure of this warning system to illuminate during a total loss of oil is, by itself, a safety defect independent of whatever is causing the oil loss, because it removes the driver's only opportunity to stop the vehicle safely before failure. These symptoms also align with existing GM service documentation: TSB 25-NA-309 addresses high idle, oil consumption, oil leaks, and MIL illumination caused by internal failure of the PCV oil separator, and service campaign N232415060 addresses aRead more

My 2023 Chevrolet Colorado (2.7L, approx. 49,000 miles) experiences sudden, intermittent loss of motive power involving the 8-speed automatic transmission. The transmission sets codes and the vehicle drops into limp mode, capped at roughly 45 mph, without warning. The most dangerous symptom is a total loss of acceleration from a stop, especially on inclines — pressing the accelerator produces no
... response. On one occasion, stopped on a slight incline, the vehicle rolled backward toward the car behind me when it failed to move forward on accelerator input. I narrowly avoided a collision. On a separate occasion, after pressing the accelerator with no response, the vehicle then suddenly lurched forward into cross traffic; repeated presses produced inconsistent, delayed engagement, nearly causing a collision. To climb inclines I now have to hold the brake while applying throttle and slowly release the brake to prevent rollback. These are unpredictable loss-of-control events that create a serious crash risk in traffic. I believe this relates to a known issue affecting the GM 8-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle is currently at a GM dealer and I have an open GM Customer Care case. No crash, fire, or injury has occurred yet, but two near-collisions have.Read more

My 2021 Kia Telluride (approximately 82,000 miles) suffered catastrophic engine failure caused by excessive and abnormal oil consumption. There was no opportunity to take corrective action before the engine failed completely. This fa
... ilure occurred while I was driving with my children in the vehicle, creating a serious and immediate safety risk. A sudden engine failure at highway or city speeds — with no prior warning — presents the risk of loss of vehicle control, inability to accelerate out of traffic, and potential collision. The vehicle and failed components are available for inspection upon request. Kia America has declined to provide warranty assistance or goodwill repair coverage despite this being a widely reported issue among 2021 Telluride owners with the same Lambda II V6 engine. I bought a 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Badlander edition in February of 2025. I love the truck and drive it everywhere. I have brought it in for every oil change when needed. Then in August of 2025 I went in for my oil change at Jeff Belzers again and I told them about adding the two quarts of oil and asked again at that time if they could do an oil consumption test and they told me no again because my vin was not on the recall list. I then got another low engine oil light on September 29, 2025 and at that time I added 2 quarts of oil. In October of 2025 I brought my truck to Maur Chevrolet for an oil change and asked them to check my vin for a recall and they said there were no recalls. Then I brought my truck to Maur Chevrolet in November of 2025 for an oil change and I asked if the vin recall had changed and they said no. Engine light came on. Car started shaking and making noise when shifting. Speed would not increase while driving. When shifting into park the car does not recognize that’s it’s in park and had to jiggle the gear shift. Took it to an independent mechanic and they said it’s probably the transmission. Have to take it to a transmission shop.

My Check Engine Light came on, I took my car to the dealership that I have using for eight years with less than 38k miles on it and I was told by the service technician who gave the diagnose as, there was coolant in the cylinder where the spark plug #3 is housed. He stated that the car is misfiring and I was told I needed to get an new engine replace to correct the problem. I was given a Service
... Bulletin stating the manufacturer knew of the problem with this model. I talk to the dealership service manager and questioned why no indication, clue, or suggestion was told to me of the problem with that type of engine. I have not contact my insurance company and I don't if they have information on the problem of the engine problem. I did tell the service technician on routine maintenance for the car that is running "rich" in using gas. In May of this year is when the engine problem started, 3 weeks before actually being eight years officially, no other indication lights came. I drive to work on the streets and freeway everyday.Read more

My 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan is experiencing excessive engine oil consumption. The oil level drops rapidly between oil changes, and I have had to add oil multiple times to prevent engine damage. The low oil warning light has appeared unexpectedly while driving, creating a safety hazard. I am concerned about potential engine failure, stalling, or loss of power at highway speeds. I have reviewed multip
... le NHTSA complaints from other 2021 Tiguan owners (IDs 11742786, 11741539, 11741067, 11739933) reporting the same oil consumption and low oil pressure issues. This indicates a pattern of defects involving the EA888 2.0 TSI engine. Volkswagen dealerships often claim this is ‘normal,’ but the frequency and severity of oil loss suggest a mechanical defect involving piston rings, PCV system, or internal engine components. This poses a serious safety risk, especially during long distance travel. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue for the 2021 Tiguan model year.Read more

On May 26, 2026 I was driving our new Mercedes 2026 GLE350 to [XXX]. The car had 737 miles on it, when it died in traffic on [XXX]. The car was purchased new on April 11, 2026 from the Mercedes dealer in Monterey, CA. When the car died in traffic, an emergency message appeared on the screen "Automatic brake assist not working, Stop the car immediately, Do Not Drive". I was barely able to cross two
... lanes of traffic in order to get to the right shoulder of the very busy freeway. The dealer in Monterey was contacted and said it sounded like an electrical issue. The car was towed to the nearest Mercedes dealer in Stevens Creek, San Jose Ca. (phone [XXX]) The service advisor at Stevens Creek is named Erica Flores. After 4 days at that dealership, she advised us that they "were unable" to duplicate the problem and that a software fix would have to be addressed by the main shop in Germany. No one knows when the software will be available. We were able to get copies of the repair order, Invoice number XXX. The car was returned to us and we drove back home to Pacific Grove, CA without any other issues. On XXX my wife was once again traveling to [XXX]. At approximately 1:15 pm the car did the exact same thing. Losing power while she was traveling at 65 miles per hour on the busy [XXX]. Again, the computer screen displayed several messages including the braking system, the cooling system and instructed her to turn the car off immediately and not to drive. The car now has approximately 1150 miles on it. We notified the dealer in Monterey Ca, and also the dealer in San Jose (Stevens Creek). My wife spoke again with Erica Flores at the Stevens Creek Mercedes dealer. Erica told my wife she could not help her and that all they could offer is a storage facility for us, with a cost of approximately 160 dollars per day. These issues represent a major safety concern which needs to be addressed by M.B. USA. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

This car is subject to NHTSA Recall Number 26V103, manufacturer's recall number R10362. I learned about the recall on February 23 via a Reuters article, but received nothing from Volvo. In follow-up with Volvo I was told on February 25 via email that there was no recall on my car. After some digging, I found through the NHTSA site that the recall did apply to my car. When Volvo corporate finally g
... ot their story right with prodding from my local dealer, I instructed to reduce charging to 70% and not to charge in or near my home or other flammable material, like trees. I have received a notice of recall a few weeks later from Volvo. After multiple escalations, and nearly 4 months without any timeframe for repair of my car, I have initiated a lemon law claim with Volvo. My complaint is that Volvo (1) sold me a car last July that is now limited to 70% of the range I expected, and presents a serious safety risk to my home and my family, (2) failed to communicate with me or my dealer about this serious risk for weeks, and (3) they have not repaired my car in a timely manner.Read more
