Around the end of May 2026, my vehicle stalled without warning while traveling at highway speed. The engine light and EPS warning light illuminated simultaneously. The engine cranks but will not start. The vehicle was towed to a Hyundai dealership on June 15, 2026 where the engine failure was confirmed. My safety was directly at risk. The vehicle lost power on an active highway with no warning, c

Hyundai Motor America acknowledged the engine failure falls under the TXXI Settlement Agreement and offered a buyback or cash settlement. However, Hyundai has had physical possession of my vehicle since June 15, 2026 and has repeatedly failed to provide a written buyback offer despite multiple commitments to do so. Prior warning signs included the engine and EPS lights activating at the moment of failure. No prior warning lamps appeared before that day. Complete engine failure while driving on an interstate highway, no previous issue or warning. The car made some knocking noises and then became completely inoperable. I am submitting this complaint regarding a 2017 Ford Edge equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine. My vehicle has experienced the well-documented coolant intrusion defect that allows engine coolant to leak into one or more cylinders. This defect has resulted in engine misfires, coolant loss without any visible external leak, and ultimately complete engine failure, leaving the vehicle inoperable. A
... Ford dealership previously diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed that coolant was leaking into one of the engine’s cylinders. The recommended repair was replacement of the entire engine, at an estimated cost of several thousand dollars. This diagnosis was made after the vehicle began exhibiting symptoms consistent with internal coolant intrusion, including rough running and loss of coolant. The vehicle has since deteriorated to the point that it no longer runs. This is not an isolated incident. Numerous owners of 2015-2018 Ford Edge vehicles equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine have reported identical failures. There is significant public documentation of this defect, including technical service bulletins, owner complaints, and ongoing litigation alleging that Ford knew of the defect. The issue appears to stem from the engine block design rather than normal wear and tear or poor maintenance. This defect presents a serious safety concern. An engine can begin misfiring or lose power unexpectedly while driving, increasing the risk of being stranded in traffic or involved in a collision. In many cases, owners receive little warning before the engine becomes unsafe or completely fails. The cost of repair is extremely high because the recommended solution is replacement of the entire engine rather than repair of a single component. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this defect and determine whether a safety recall is warranted. Consumers should not be responsible for the cost of replacing an engine that fails due to an apparent manufacturing or design defect.Read more

My 2022 GMC Yukon (6.2L L87 V8, VIN [XXX]) is covered by recall 25V-274 / GM N252494000, "L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion." In May 2025, at about 65,800 miles, the engine lost power and shut down while I was driving, then developed a loud knocking noise and an intermittent low-oil-pressure warning. The dealer (The Faricy Boys Automotive, Salida, CO) found excessive metal in the oil sample and replac
... ed the entire engine under this recall in June 2025. The original engine serial was [XXX]; the replacement serial is [XXX]. On XXX, at about 93,000 miles — roughly 27,000 miles after the recall repair — the REPLACEMENT engine GM installed began making the same knocking noise. A dealer (Turner Automotive, Montrose, CO) has confirmed the engine is failing and has ordered a second replacement engine. The recall remedy GM performed did not fix the defect; the engine GM installed to cure the recall is now exhibiting the same failure mode (knocking / loss of propulsion). When the engine failed on XXX, GM Roadside Assistance refused to cover towing despite the engine's replacement coverage, and I had to pay roughly $484 out of pocket to tow the vehicle about 74 miles to the nearest dealer. This is a safety issue: the defect causes loss of motive power, and in my first failure the vehicle shut down while I was driving. I am reporting this because the recall remedy itself appears defective, consistent with NHTSA Recall Query RQ26001 regarding the adequacy of the remedy for campaign 25V-274. Please associate this report with that recall and that investigation. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

This is an issue that could lead to sudden engine failure while driving, causing a serious accident risk. A few months ago the engine sputtered while idle after starting and the heater wasn't working well. Noticed coolant was a low and topped it off. The issue seemed resolved after this. A few weeks ago the check engine light came on indicating a misfire in cylinder 2. We changed the spark plugs,
... but the issue returned shortly after. We swapped coil packs, but the issue returned, still for cylinder 2. We noticed at that time the coolant was very low. There were no puddles of coolant seen underneath the car in its usual parking spot. Pulled the spark plug and noticed white residue on the end of it. The vehicle was taken to a Ford dealership where we were informed there was a crack leading to coolant intrusion into cylinder 2, requiring engine replacement at over $10,000 cost. Online research has found this is a known issue affecting multiple Ford/Lincoln models spanning several model years and Ford has a few Technical Service Bulletins (#19-2346, 22-2133 and 22-2229) regarding it. This was not communicated to vehicle owners as a possible issue to have checked out. This problem will lead to inevitable engine failure. If this happens while driving, it could cause an accident as the vehicle could just come to a stop, possibly in the middle of an interstate highway.Read more

am the original owner of this 2015 Jeep Wrangler, which I purchased new. The vehicle has been properly maintained according to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule. I have records documenting routine maintenance, including regular oil changes. At approximately 75,000 miles, I began hearing a persistent ticking noise from the engine. Because I was concerned that the noise could indi
... cate a mechanical problem, I scheduled an inspection with an authorized Jeep dealership. The dealership diagnosed the vehicle with a failed rocker arm that caused damage to the exhaust camshaft. The dealership advised that the intake camshaft remained in good condition, indicating that the failure was isolated to the exhaust valvetrain at the time of diagnosis. This type of internal engine failure at approximately 80,000 miles was unexpected for a properly maintained vehicle. My concern is that if this condition is not diagnosed promptly, continued operation could result in further engine damage, loss of engine performance, engine misfire, or potential engine failure while the vehicle is being driven, creating a potential safety hazard. While researching this issue after receiving the diagnosis, I found numerous reports from other owners of vehicles equipped with the 3.6L Pentastar engine describing similar rocker arm and camshaft failures across Jeep owner forums, Reddit, Facebook owner groups, and YouTube. Although I understand there has not been a recall for this condition on my vehicle, I believe the number of similar owner reports suggests the issue may warrant further review. I am submitting this complaint so that NHTSA is aware of the issue and can evaluate whether similar failures are occurring with sufficient frequency to justify additional investigation.Read more

Safety should prevent incidents like this . Hindsight is no good. I think my kids are precious but Dodge must think their lives are cheap . That was something the engine manufacturer should be held accountable for. The rocker arms and lifters suddenly stopped working in two cylinders because of a fault in those engines known to Dodge. The dealership diagnosed the issue and gave me a quote of $4500-$6000 to repair the extensive damage from that incident. The lady in the service department said I was a victim of the well known Pentastar Tick .I can’t afford it. To add insult they offered me $6000 to buy it. No local independent mechanic wants to tear the engine apart . So my truck is sitting in our driveway. I am paying a loan and upside down in it. I can’t fix it and I can’t sell it. The dealer has had to repair many of these ground straps, they are exposed to the elements and come loose I was told. They had two other GMC trucks in the shop with the same issue that day. the ground strap is exposed to the elements do not understand why this would not be covered just like a battery lead to stop from corroding and have to clean it or replace it. Not to mention there is no where in the service manual I can find about any maintenance that needs to be done with it. Appears to be a very bad design from the car manufacture.Read more

I am filing this complaint regarding my 2021 Kia Soul due to repeated engine and powertrain failures and concerns about the quality and safety of the repairs. While my vehicle was under Kia's 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, I repeatedly brought it to the dealership for excessive oil consumption and transmission problems. Despite multiple visits, the dealership performed minor repairs or claimed
... they could not identify the transmission issue. I also contacted Kia Consumer Affairs but received no assistance. Shortly after my warranty expired, Kia determined both the engine and transmission required replacement. The repairs were completed as a "good faith" repair rather than a warranty or recall repair, using remanufactured components. Since then, I have continued experiencing problems. The replacement engine appears to have been installed improperly, including stripped motor mount bolts/pins and a missing bracket. Within months, I also developed radiator and coolant reservoir problems, raising additional safety concerns. I understand Kia has issued recalls and service campaigns involving similar engine and powertrain defects. When I previously checked my VIN, I recall it showing an engine-related recall. However, a recent search showed no open recalls. Regardless, my vehicle experienced the same failures and required replacement of both the engine and transmission after I repeatedly sought repairs while still under warranty. I believe these repeated failures and the apparent improper installation of the replacement engine warrant investigation. I have repair records documenting my complaints, the repairs, and the continuing issues.Read more

My vehicle will NOT drive past 20 MPH,it randomly goes into limp mode with traveling ! I’ve have it tested multiple times and no one seems to know what the issue is !
Incident date: Jun 1, 2026
Issue was first identified in September 2024 when a rattling noise prompted inspection, and the engine was found to be significantly low on oil. Excessive engine oil consumption was confirmed with failure during manufacturer testing. Vehicle emits occasional burning oil smell when idling after 10 miles+ driving. Vehicle failed a 1,000-mile oil consumption test following a “Dynamic Engine Clean
... ” performed by a certified independent mechanic, with documented oil loss of approximately 2 quarts. Vehicle subsequently failed a dealer-administered oil consumption test, with documented oil loss of approximately 2.3 quarts within 1,000 miles. Engine oil levels have dropped to critically low levels between checks despite active monitoring and maintenance. This condition presents a risk of engine seizure, sudden loss of power while driving, and potential engine compartment fire due to oil consumption or leakage. The issue has been reproduced and documented by both an independent mechanic and a Hyundai dealership. Despite confirmed excessive oil consumption, the manufacturer has delayed corrective action and has required repeated oil consumption testing and engine cleaning procedures rather than proceeding with repair. This condition appears consistent with known defects associated with Hyundai Theta II engines.Read more

On June 16, 2026, a 2021 Infiniti QX50 experienced a safety-related malfunction while being driven at approximately 15–20 mph. The vehicle suddenly jerked, lost power response, displayed multiple warning lights, showed a “System Fault – See Owner’s Manual” message, and became unresponsive/difficult to control. The engine remained on, but the vehicle did not respond properly. The vehicle
... struck a fixed object/rock. A police report was filed/requested, and medical evaluation was sought afterward. The suspected failed or malfunctioning systems are the engine/powertrain response, electrical system, and related control systems. The vehicle should be available for inspection upon request and should be preserved before any diagnostic codes, freeze-frame data, event data, modules, or electronic records are cleared, reset, repaired, overwritten, or destroyed. Before this incident, repeated drivability and safety-related concerns were reported to Infiniti/dealer service departments, including vibration during acceleration, abnormal gas pedal vibration, lack of acceleration, poor power response, jerking/jolting, rough ride, abnormal noises, front-end noise, and safety/reliability concerns. Some concerns were documented in service records. Prior repairs included front passenger-side wheel bearing replacement and cooling fan/IPDM-related warranty work, but the drivability/power-response concerns continued. UNKNOWN whether the manufacturer completed a full post-incident inspection. The vehicle has been reviewed by police and insurance-related parties to the extent related to the collision. This complaint is being filed because the condition appears to involve a safety defect causing loss of power response and system fault warnings while driving. I am currently waiting on the police report, the report number has been provided.Read more
