I was driving my 2021 Nissan Rogue on the highway, returning from the airport after picking up a friend, when the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle began jerking on acceleration. The vehicle lost power and would only move very slowly, leaving me traveling well below highway speed in active traffic. This created an extremely dangerous situation, as surrounding vehicles were approaching
... at full highway speed while my vehicle could not accelerate or maintain a safe speed. The vehicle also appeared to be running hot. I did not feel safe continuing to drive the vehicle, so I stopped driving it and had it taken to Crest Nissan of Frisco (Frisco, TX) for diagnosis. The dealership retrieved diagnostic trouble codes P1217 (engine overheat) and P0300 (random/multiple cylinder misfire). Upon inspection, they found low coolant, pressure-tested the cooling system, and confirmed that coolant is entering multiple cylinders, causing the misfire and overheating. The dealership states the engine cannot be repaired and the long block engine assembly must be replaced, at a quoted cost of $6,955.49. The vehicle is barely outside the manufacturer's warranty by time and mileage. There was no warning prior to this failure, and the vehicle has been properly maintained. This is an internal engine failure (coolant intrusion into the cylinders), not a maintenance-related issue. I am aware of other 2021 Nissan Rogue owners reporting the same failure — coolant entering the cylinders/mixing with oil, misfires, overheating, and dealers requiring full engine replacement shortly after warranty expiration. This defect presents a serious safety hazard: sudden loss of power and inability to accelerate in highway traffic creates a significant risk of a rear-end collision.Read more

The primary failure is in the Engine/Powertrain system and Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS), causing 6 identical sudden engine stalls (OBD-II code P1326) from 09/2000 to 06/2026. Additionally, severe excessive oil consumption was documented during 2 of these diagnostic visits, showing deep-seated engine issues. The vehicle and all records are available for inspection at the Hyundai dealer. Sa
... fety was severely threatened on 6 occasions. The vehicle abruptly stalled at 60+ mph in active highway traffic, forcing an immediate engine shutdown. This left me with highly impaired steering and braking control in fast-moving traffic, creating an imminent risk of high-speed rear-end collisions and jeopardizing my life and others. The primary stalling defect and P1326 code were confirmed 6 separate times by the authorized Hyundai dealership. The secondary excessive oil consumption issue was also formally confirmed by the dealer during 2 of those visits. Despite multiple dealership-confirmed diagnoses, no permanent repair has been achieved. The vehicle has been inspected during all 6 visits by dealership technicians. For the current (6th) visit, the dealer could not resolve the recurring defect and formally contacted Hyundai Corporate Technical Support for expert analysis, which is currently ongoing. Except for the first visit, the pattern is identical: the car stalls, the dealer clears codes/replaces KSDS, and it stalls again within 3 weeks. Notably, during the 4th visit, they replaced the Intake Manifold. Now, on this 6th visit, they demand I pay to replace that same part again. This proves they cannot diagnose the root engine failure and are only applying useless, temporary fixes. Prior to all 6 stalls, the flashing Check Engine / Hybrid Warning light triggered on the dashboard. This critical KSDS alert was followed within seconds by a total loss of motive power. Also, a history of rapid engine oil depletion and low-oil alerts was documented in 2 of the diagnostics.Read more

My vehicle experienced severe stalling, rough idling, and a strong burning smell, which match the exact defect characteristics outlined in NHTSA Campaign 26V080 for Nissan main bearing failure (The year 2026 campaign is active). The vehicle was towed to a Nissan dealership, where technicians confirmed the engine requires complete replacement. However, the dealership is currently attempting to attr
... ibute the engine failure to 'coil intrusion' rather than the active bearing recall. The vehicle was purchased used in February 2026, just days after the official recall notification was sent to dealers. I am filing this complaint because the manufacturer is actively reviewing the claim and potentially bypassing a federally mandated safety remedy by blaming a consequential symptom of the engine failure. To specifically answer the above questions: The engine's main bearings failed/malfunctioned internally, causing catastrophic damage requiring a total engine replacement. The vehicle and its components are currently intact and available for inspection at the Nissan dealership service center. The vehicle suffered sudden, unexpected engine stalling while actively driving. This caused an immediate loss of motive power on a public roadway, creating a severe crash hazard and putting myself and surrounding drivers at risk of a rear-end collision. Yes. An authorized Nissan dealership service department has inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the engine has suffered a total mechanical failure and needs to be completely replaced. The vehicle is currently being inspected by an authorized Nissan dealership service center, and the case has been officially escalated to Nissan Corporate for a technical and warranty review. A strong burning smell and severe rough idling appeared a couple days prior to the incident. However, the check engine light did not illuminate or provide any warning until the moment the engine completely stalled on the highway.Read more

SYSTEMIC POWERTRAIN SAFETY DEFECT: Catastrophic Loss of Propulsion & Failure of Dual-Motor Redundancy. 1. Incident & Safety Risk: While traveling in the far-left HOV lane of a 6-lane interstate highway, the vehicle experienced an uncommanded, unwarranted Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) intervention during a controlled lane change. This sudden deceleration instantly triggered a complete powertra
... in collapse and total loss of propulsion. The vehicle came to a dead stop in a live highway lane. The driver (me), passenger, and our [XXX] infant were stranded in lane 3 of a 6 lane highway for ~35 minutes until Highway Patrol units arrived to manually push the vehicle across live traffic to the shoulder. This near-miss was an immediate, severe life-safety crisis not just for the occupants but also to others on the road. 2. Symptoms & Alert Codes: There were zero warning symptoms prior to the incident. Immediately upon the power collapse, the touchscreen displayed critical faults. Active diagnostic telemetry confirmed alert codes: DI_a137 (No Capable Drive Units) DI_a063 (System Graceful Power Off) 3. Manufacturer Confirmation & Inspection Status: The failure was confirmed in writing by the manufacturer’s service center. The diagnostic invoice explicitly states: "The rear drive inverter experienced an unintended reset due to an error. Sudden power reduction and shutdown while driving." The vehicle is currently held at the manufacturer's facility and is fully available for inspection. 4. Engineering Assessment: As a mechanical engineer, my assessment is the surge through the AEB event to the inverter’s DC-link was unable to damp this load, forcing a hardware logic reset. Crucially, the software logic failed to partition this fault. In a dual-motor architecture marketed as having built-in powertrain redundancy, a localized rear inverter reset should be isolated, leaving the front motor operational to safely navigate out of traffic, this did not happen. Thank god the car coming towards us went around in time. It then happened again
... in my neighborhood a week later. Thankfully that time I wasn’t in traffic. I have noted that it seems to happen when very hot outside (Florida July summer) and air is on full blast. Also seems to be happening only during the first trip of the day, within the first 5-10 minutes of said trip. The dealership has not been able to recreate this to see for themselves. I think it would have to be with them overnight and they start it/drive it for the first time that day. It has now happened a total of 3 times since I’ve been driving it (2.5 months). I have 3 children and very worried I will get t-boned one day when it stalls next. I love my car so much so it’s heartbreaking that I have to drive it in fear. No lights/warnings/messages when this happens.Read more

The vehicle experienced an internal engine failure involving the engine block/long block. The engine had a multi-cylinder misfire, and an independent repair facility inspected the vehicle and found coolant traces in multiple cylinders. The repair facility referenced Ford TSB 22-2133 and recommended replacement of the engine long block to correct the issue. The failed engine is not currently availa
... ble for inspection because the vehicle was traded in after the repair estimate determined it was not economically feasible to repair. We suffered a big loss The safety concern was the potential for sudden loss of engine power due to the misfire and internal engine failure. A vehicle experiencing severe misfires while driving could have reduced performance, hesitation, or loss of power, creating a safety risk depending on driving conditions. The problem was confirmed by an independent service center. The vehicle was not inspected by Ford, police, or insurance representatives. Prior to failure, the vehicle developed engine symptoms consistent with a misfire. The check engine light/engine misfire condition occurred before diagnosis. The independent service facility confirmed the condition and found coolant traces in multiple cylinders.Read more

The car entered a failed ICCU state (not confirmed until the car was looked at by Hyundai at the dealership) while I was driving down to Ano Nuevo regional park. The vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine compartment fire while safely parked inside an employment parking garage in [XXX] on XXX, at approximately 3:04 PM. This safety incident occurred exactly one week after I received the official manufacturer safety recall notice by mail for Hyundai Recall 301 (NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V308000), which outlines an overheating transistor defect within the Hybrid Power Control Unit (HPCU) capable of causing a vehicle fire. The vehicle caught fire due to this exact un-remedied defect before I could realistically bring it to a dealership for the required safety software update.
