I have a 2012 MDX and it burns an extreme amount of oil. We took our MDX back to the dealership where we purchased it and had the oil issue fixed. Or so we thought. The problem was supposed to be fixed 3 months ago but the car is still burning a lot of oil. We have to add oil every 2 weeks. We did not drive the car much after "getting the oil issue repaired" so we did not realize that the probl
... em still exists. Acura should know how to repair this issue and there should be a recall for this excessive oil consumption. Acura is a luxury brand but they are not taking care of their customers. Also the paint is peeling off our MDX badly. We had a couple of paint touch up jobs but it just keeps getting worst. I am embarrassed driving this car with the continuing paint peeling off. We cannot keep shelling out money to get this vehicle repainted. There should be a recall for the paint peeling also. I had a Honda and the Honda had a lot less issues and cost a lot less. We will not purchase another Acura unless Acura does right by their customers and put recalls out and fix the oil consumption and paint peeling issues.Read more

On XXX and XXX, while driving on the highway, the vehicle suffered a sudden, complete loss of motive power. Flashing warning lights appeared on the instrument cluster, accompanied by a safety warning message instructing the driver to pull over and "Check Hybrid System" immediately. This sudden, uncommanded drop in propulsion on active, high-speed roadways created an immediate safety hazard, for
... cing emergency maneuvering to coast the vehicle safely to the shoulder. The vehicle was delivered to an authorized franchise dealer (Arapahoe Kia in [XXX]) on XXX, where it has now remained grounded for 31 consecutive days. The service department has verbally communicated extreme diagnostic confusion, stating they lack an on-site hybrid specialist to properly diagnose the high-voltage powertrain/HPV/hybrid battery system. The vehicle has historically received software updates under Campaign SC335A, and the symptoms reported here closely align with the loss of motive power issues addressed in Voluntary Emissions Service Campaign SC338. To date, neither the dealership nor the manufacturer (under Case #XXX) has provided a formal written diagnosis, a repair schedule, or an active resolution. The vehicle is a 2020 Honda Odyssey. A recurring and dangerous safety failure occurs involving the Auto Idle-Stop system. With the system enabled and the vehicle at a complete stop, the engine shuts off as designed. However, upon depressing the brake pedal to resume driving, the engine severely struggles to restart and completely fails. Simultaneously, the vehicle immediately and automatically shi
... fts itself into PARK, and the entire dashboard display illuminates with all available warning icons and messages. This malfunction creates an immediate, high-risk safety hazard. When the incident occurs, I am trapped, locked in PARK, in live traffic lanes, sometimes at busy intersections or during left-hand turns. It is impossible to shift back into drive or quickly restart the engine. I am forced to remain stationary in traffic for multiple minutes until the system allows me to cycle the ignition completely OFF and then back ON to attempt a full restart and shift back into Drive. This leaves my vehicle, my passengers, and other drivers vulnerable to rear-end collisions.Read more

On April 17, 2026, while driving my 2022 Hyundai Palisade with approximately 167,000 miles, the vehicle suddenly lost engine power and was unable to maintain normal driving speed. The sudden loss of propulsion created a safety risk because the vehicle could no longer operate normally in traffic. I was able to move the vehicle out of traffic, but it would not restart. I also observed white smoke co
... ming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was towed to Matt Bowers Hyundai Slidell, an authorized Hyundai dealership, where it remains and is available for inspection upon request. The dealership has inspected the vehicle and advised that the engine needs to be replaced. The exact internal component that failed and the final cause of the engine failure remain under review by Hyundai. I do not recall any warning lamps or messages before the sudden failure. The timing of any prior symptoms is UNKNOWN. The vehicle had been maintained through authorized Hyundai dealerships. On December 29, 2025, a Hyundai dealership replaced the oil filter housing because of an oil leak and performed a synthetic oil and oil filter change. On March 11, 2026, approximately five weeks before the failure, the dealership performed another oil and oil-filter change and a multipoint inspection. I am reporting this incident because the sudden loss of engine power while driving, the inability to restart, and the smoke from the engine compartment created a serious safety concern. The vehicle remains disabled and available for further inspection.Read more

I am filing this complaint regarding my 2021 Kia Sorento, which has suffered a serious transmission failure. The vehicle is displaying diagnostic code P0741, indicating a torque converter clutch malfunction. The transmission slips, shifts harshly, hesitates during acceleration, loses power unexpectedly, and has become unsafe to drive. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This defec
... t has put my safety and the safety of others at risk. On several occasions the vehicle failed to respond properly when accelerating, including while entering highways and driving in traffic. The hesitation and sudden loss of power created fear and anxiety because I could not trust the vehicle to move when needed to avoid a dangerous situation. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by a repair facility, and the symptoms are consistent with a transmission torque converter clutch failure. I also contacted Kia and provided the vehicle information. Kia informed me that they would not repair the vehicle because it has exceeded 100,000 miles and that the recall or warranty extension had expired. However, my vehicle is experiencing the same transmission-related symptoms reported by many other Kia owners.I never received any recall notification because I purchased the vehicle from a dealership as the second owner. Had I been properly notified, I would have taken the vehicle in for inspection much earlier. It is extremely frustrating and financially devastating to be denied assistance solely because of mileage when the failure appears to be related to a known transmission defect. Before the failure, the check engine light illuminated and code P0741 appeared. Prior to that warning, the vehicle had already shown delayed shifting, slipping, hesitation, rough gear changes, and loss of power, which became progressively worse. This situation has caused significant emotional stress, anxiety, and financial hardship. I am requesting a full investigation and a fair resolution from kia.Read more

On or about XXX, my 2021 Acura RDX, with approximately 121,078 miles, suddenly displayed multiple dashboard warning lights and system-failure messages while I was driving. These included the check-engine light, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, steering, stability-control, braking-assistance and other driver-assistance warnings. Earlier, the tire-pressure monitoring system had also indicat
... ed a malfunction even though the tire pressures were correct. The vehicle initially continued to drive and the conventional brakes appeared to function normally. However, it then began hesitating when I attempted to accelerate. The vehicle would eventually gain speed, but the initial hesitation created a serious safety concern when pulling into traffic or attempting to accelerate. The check-engine light remained solid while the vehicle was stopped but flashed whenever I began driving and accelerating again. No crash, fire or injury occurred. The vehicle had undergone a full diagnostic inspection approximately two weeks earlier, and I was informed that everything checked out properly. There were no known drivability problems before this incident, and the vehicle has been maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule. The vehicle was subsequently inspected by Elite Acura, an authorized Acura dealership in [XXX]. The dealership confirmed a head-gasket failure and a problem with the rear differential left-side actuator. The dealer recommended replacing the head gasket, four spark plugs, coolant, oil and filter, as well as replacing the rear differential left-side actuator and changing the differential fluid. The estimated head-gasket repair was $5,391.46, and the estimated rear differential actuator and fluid service was $813.85. The dealer also recommended rear brake pads and rotors. The head-gasket and rear differential actuator problems were confirmed by the authorized Acura dealership. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?Multiple components across four separate manufacturer safety recalls: (1) the high-voltage battery (Recall 68C), currently being replaced by the dealer; (2) the Hybrid Control Processor / drive system (Recall A7C); (3) the electric hydraulic power steering pump (Recall 21D); and (4) the 2.0L engine (R
... ecall 78C, status disputed — see below). The vehicle is currently at the authorized dealer and is available for inspection there. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?Recalls 68C and 21D are both manufacturer-designated fire risks; 21D specifically carries an "URGENT: FIRE RISK WHEN PARKED" designation in NHTSA's own database. Recall A7C describes a loss of drive power without warning while driving, which the manufacturer states may cause a vehicle crash. I experienced a stalling event with the drive indicator blinking on 10/17/2025 (10,553 miles); UNKNOWN whether this was directly caused by the A7C defect, but the symptoms match the recall's description.Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The 68C battery failure has been confirmed by the dealer, who is currently performing a full battery replacement. UNKNOWN whether the 10/17/2025 stalling event was ever formally diagnosed as connected to Recall A7C; the dealer's repair order for that visit does not reference A7C or a root cause. UNKNOWN whether Recall 78C's applicability to my vehicle has been confirmed or denied by the dealer — see discrepancy described below.Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has been inspected and serviced multiple times by the manufacturer's authorized dealer. The vehicle suffered a sudden, severe loss of power while driving, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly. This created an immediate hazard to myself and other motorists on the road, as I was forced to navigate a dead vehicle out of active traffic without power steering or power braking assist. Prior to the total failure, the engine exhibited severe mechanical knocking, loss of acceleration, and
... high oil consumption without any visible external oil leaks. This engine failure is a direct result of the manufacturing defect detailed in NHTSA Safety Recall 203 (NHTSA Campaign 21V301000) concerning improperly heat-treated piston oil rings that cause severe cylinder scuffing and engine stall. Although the software update (Campaign 974) was previously completed on this VIN, the physical defect was never mechanically repaired. The software update failed to prevent the physical, defectively manufactured components from destroying the engine. Hyundai is refusing to honor the safety campaign and replace the failed engine because the recall database incorrectly lists the recall status as "completed."Read more

... call N252494001 (NHTSA Recall 25V-274). The vehicle is available for inspection. It is currently at Cable Dahmer Chevrolet, where it was towed on July 13, 2026, and remains inoperable. SAFETY RISK: The engine seized during operation, causing sudden and complete loss of propulsion in traffic. This is the exact failure mode identified in Recall 25V-274 as increasing the risk of a crash. CRITICAL DETAIL: This vehicle previously underwent inspection under Safety Recall N252494001 and PASSED on Feb 3rd 2026 at VAN Chevrolet in Kansas City. GM deemed the engine non-defective and issued extended warranty coverage of 10 years/150,000 miles under the associated special coverage program. Despite passing GM's recall inspection, the engine suffered catastrophic failure. This appears directly relevant to NHTSA's open recall query regarding the effectiveness of GM's recall remedy. DEALER CONFIRMATION: A technician at Cable Dahmer Chevrolet has verbally confirmed the engine is locked up/seized. Formal diagnosis is pending master technician sign-off and submission to GM, expected the week of July 20, 2026. The manufacturer has not yet inspected the vehicle. I've had consistent issues with the vehicle accelerating and shifting. These include sluggish acceleration, loss of power and sputtering when we've come to a complete stop and starting to move again. We've almost been hit by other vehicles at least over 20 times because the vehicle has failed to accelerate when pulling into a roadway. The car hesitates during acceleration regardless of how much I
... push the gas. Once it starts to go, it feels as though the car can't shift from 1st to 2nd gear, The RPMs get extremely high while the car is going 25-40 mph and remain there for a few seconds up to ~20 seconds. I am fearful of getting t-boned when my car hesitates while turning at an intersection, going through an intersection or pulling out from a parking lot. I have been stuck in several intersections when traffic was coming toward me, but thankfully those cars had patience and avoided us. I've also found that this issue always happens when the hybrid battery shows that it only has a charge of 3 bars. It seems that the engine, transmission and hybrid battery don't know how to communicate when the battery charge gets that low. This has been happening since Dec 2023 when I bought the vehicle and the dealer has never been able to duplicate or find any error code, they are refusing to fix a known issue when many others are experiencing the same issue. There are Toyota Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) out there regarding this problem but my dealer told me they won't do anything as it could label my vehicle a lemon. This is creating an unnecessary safety risk for me and my family.Read more

The rubber A/C hose was routed in a manner that caused it to rest against or press against the side of the engine. Over time, the engine heat and constant contact burned a
... hole through the hose, causing a rapid loss of refrigerant (Freon). As a result of the refrigerant leak, the air conditioning system stopped blowing cold air, and the HVAC system no longer functioned properly. This failure was not caused by normal wear and tear, but by the improper routing and placement of the A/C hose against the engine. The issue was confirmed by Meineke Service Center through a diagnostic inspection and UV dye leak test, which identified the damaged refrigerant discharge line as the source of the leak. A significant safety concern is that simply replacing the hose does not permanently correct the problem if the replacement hose is routed in the same location. Without a manufacturer-provided redesign or long-term repair solution that prevents the hose from contacting the engine, the replacement part is at risk of failing in the same manner. There were no warning lights, dashboard messages, or other indications before the failure occurred. The air conditioning stopped blowing cold air after the refrigerant escaped through the damaged hose. I believe this is a manufacturing and/or design defect that could affect other vehicles with the same hose routing configuration. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and determine whether a safety recall or manufacturer corrective action is warranted.Read more

We were driving on the highway when the Trax suddenly made a popping sound, all the electric went off, and then the engine cut off. We lost control of steering for a bit, we're able to get to the side of the road. We had the car towed to the local Chevrolet dealer for diagnostics. The service manager informed me the engine is unrepairable due to a hole in the engine block, likely where the engine
... threw a rod. In order to get the engine replaced we have to have it towed to a second dealership, which we are in the process of doing now. I just purchased this vehicle 3 weeks ago without knowing this issue was a possibilityRead more

At 112,000 miles, the engine in my 2024 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid (2.0L Atkinson-cycle engine) suffered a catastrophic head gasket failure, causing severe coolant intrusion into the cylinders. All scheduled maintenance intervals in the owner's manual were followed and documented. The dealer and corporate (Case #16444920) have refused assistance. This is a widely documented mechanical defect where co
... nstant thermal cycling (the gas engine repeatedly turning on and off during hybrid operation) stretches the factory head bolts and destroys the gasket seal. This defect can lead to unexpected, total engine failure while driving at highway speeds, posing a severe safety risk to the occupants.Read more

On April 8, 2026, my 2020 Cadillac XT5 experienced a sudden and complete engine failure while I was driving. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lights, no overheating indications, no abnormal engine noises, and no performance issues that would have alerted me to a developing problem. Without warning, the engine failed and the vehicle immediately lost power, creating a serious safety haza
... rd. The vehicle became inoperable and had to be towed. Fortunately, I was not traveling on a freeway or in heavy traffic at the time of the failure. Had this occurred at highway speeds or while crossing an intersection, the sudden loss of propulsion could have significantly increased the risk of a crash. This unexpected loss of power increased my risk a potential highway hazard. The vehicle was subsequently inspected and diagnosed by an authorized Cadillac dealership. The dealership determined that the engine suffered an internal mechanical failure, including rod bearing failure and metal contamination throughout the engine. The dealership advised that the engine required complete replacement. The vehicle has been properly maintained and serviced. There was no owner misuse, neglect, overheating event, or other known condition that would explain such a catastrophic failure. The engine failed unexpectedly and without any prior warning to the driver. I am submitting this complaint because a sudden engine failure resulting in immediate loss of power presents a significant safety concern. I believe NHTSA should investigate whether similar failures have occurred in other 2020 Cadillac XT5 vehicles and whether a manufacturing or design defect may exist that could place other drivers at risk.Read more

I bought the 2020 equinox May the 9th 2026 the dealership concealed a lot of things going on this vehicle and I complain to them two days after purchase he told me I was stuck with it in the meanwhile as I drive the vehicle I have had repairs done but it's something going on with the acceleration it accelerates on its own sometimes and slow to pick up speed. The steering seems to get away from me
... at times that makes me feel like I'm going to lose control when driving. I have almost had a couple of accidents since then so what really worries me is the steering problems which I just had a little alignment done today July 15th 2026 and the accelerating from time to time went backing up or pulling off. I do feel like the safety of others can be at risk for should I say my safety is that risk at times so I am extremely cautious when I'm driving. No I have not had really anyone to look at I have been having a car looked at for many issues but that issue I am still trying to get in to see a mechanic that I'm used to dealing with but he's been backed up. No there are no lights of any such but when I purchased it the sensors in the tires and I've had that replaced and I've noticed this situation with the acceleration when I bought the vehicle and the slow speed pick up when driving.Read more

The water pump failed catastrophically at 63,100 miles, forcing a complete road-side breakdown and damaging the radiator. This is a known manufacturing defect affecting the 3.6L VR6 composite plastic pumps. Due to the failure of the pump, the radiator tank became hot causing a hole to form in the radiator and needing to be replaced. I still own this car and you may inspect it if needed. My safe
... ty was at risk as well as others safely was put at risk because this caused car to over heat leaving me broken down on the side of the road. My mechanic at specialized auto repair confirmed and reported this issue to me and they provided the repair. It was not inspected by police, or insurance because it was a break down, not an accident and that's not coved by insurance. I knew that the car was overheating because waring system showed it to be overheating. It was actually more than over heating because of the water pump failure, the radiator melted causing car to dump all the coolant/water creating an over heating emergency. The warning system first appeared at the same time as the pump failure and the car had already overheated due to radiator hole when the waring system alerted me to the car overheating.Read more

The vehicle shake while idling, and a check engine light indicating code P0302 (Cylinder 2 Misfire). After looking under the hood the engine cooling system was severely low on coolant, and a loud sloshing liquid noise could be heard behind the dashboard. The vehicle was brought to an authorized Ford dealership, where technicians confirmed internal EcoBoost coolant intrusion into Cylinder 2 as docu
... mented in Ford Technical Service Bulletin TSB 22-2229. This structural design flaw creates an immediate safety hazard, as the engine is at risk of catastrophic failure and stalling while operating at highway speeds.Read more
