I own a 2023 BMW 530i affected by NHTSA recall campaign 26V-438 (BMW "Engine Starter" recall), issued July 8, 2026. Per BMW's own recall documentation, unexpected wear on an internal starter component can cause the starter to malfunction and, in an extreme case, cause a thermal event or fire when starting the engine OR while the engine is running. As of this complaint, BMW's official status for th
... is recall is "Remedy not available" — there is no repair available and no timeline has been provided to me for when one will be. Because BMW has acknowledged a fire risk that can occur while the vehicle is being driven, and because no remedy exists, I have stopped driving the vehicle out of concern for the safety of myself and my two young children. I contacted BMW to request a loaner or alternative transportation until the recall can be repaired. BMW Recall Support Services declined, stating that no alternative transportation is provided for this recall and directing me to my local dealership. My local dealership declined and directed me back to BMW. I first requested that a case be opened on July 15, 2026, and have followed up multiple times by phone and email without resolution. I am left with a vehicle the manufacturer has identified as a fire risk during normal operation, no available fix, no repair timeline, and no alternative transportation. I am filing this complaint to document the safety defect and BMW's failure to provide interim relief while owners await a remedy. I request that NHTSA take this into account in monitoring the adequacy and timeliness of BMW's recall response. No crash, injury, or fire has occurredRead more

While driving at ~50mph, the truck immediately went into reduced power mode, temperatures spiked to 260 from 210. Engine code P1006 showed indicating coolant control valve failure. After experiencing, I discovered that GM issued Special Coverage for Coolant Control Valve (N252508341). However, the local Chevy dealership indicated my truck would not be covered even though it is within the timefra

Customer Care did not acknowledge the Special Coverage until I directed them to the correct bulletin. They further indicated because my VIN was not covered, they would not be able to do anything. This issue is HIGHLY known by GM, but they have failed to remedy appropriately. It is also a safety hazard, especially in my case, where the failure occurred on the highway, at speed with cars behind me, and resulted in the truck immediately ceasing normal operation causing the potential for property damage and/or injury.Read more

Bought this car brand new from Nissan dealership 7/2023. Had issues with battery, sensor (causing car to go into low mode), and now complete engine failure all in a span of 7 months. Just purchased a used 2021 KIA seltos with about 45k miles. I did my research and checked prior if there were any major issues. Since it showed zero recalls and received relatively good reviews I thought it would be a safe and reliable vehicle. I was wrong.I had the vehicle for only about three months when I noticed the check engine light come on while driving on the freeway. It was solid, however
... , I thought it was better to be safe than sorry and started to look for an exit. While driving up a freeway interchange the car suddenly started to lose speed. I pressed the accelerator but couldn’t get any power to the engine. As the car started to slow rapidly I pulled over to a narrow strip of the road. This was a dangerous stretch of the freeway because there was virtually no shoulder and cars were accelerating to merge up the rising ramp on the stack. After I came to a stop I put the car in park and turn it off. I then tried to restart the engine but had no luck. The engine would crank but would not start. I was now stuck and getting anxious as traffic began to steadily increase. Cars were flying by at high speeds less than a foot away. I had no choice but to call for a tow truck and patiently wait. I sat there praying that nobody would hit my car. I was fortunate to be safely towed to a service center. The technician performed a borescope and found severe scoring on the cylinder walls directly relating to defective piston rings. The improperly heat-treated piston rings chipped and literally carved deep grooves into the block dropping the compression causing the car to sputter and die.The engine has internal damage and will not start. Needs a new long block (Engine replacement). There is a recall on these piston rings. The dealership sent in their inspection including compression test and borescope images showing the groves and scoring on the cylinder walls. KIA is refusing to cover cost because the car is out of warranty. Safety recalls never expire with warranty!!!!!!Read more

Summary of Complaint I am submitting this complaint to report what I believe may be a safety-related defect involving the twin-turbocharger system on my 2022 Toyota Tundra (VIN: [XXX]). The driver’s side turbocharger failed at approximately 58,000 miles and had to be replaced. Approximately 6,000 miles later, at around 64,000 miles, the passenger-side turbocharger also failed. The vehicle ha
... s been properly maintained and serviced by authorized Toyota dealerships. A failed turbocharger causes a significant loss of engine power, which can create a hazardous condition when merging onto highways, overtaking other vehicles, or driving in traffic where acceleration is necessary to avoid a collision. Toyota requested that I return the vehicle to an authorized dealership for an additional diagnosis, which confirmed the failure of the second turbocharger. I paid $250 for this diagnosis at Toyota’s request. Despite the repeated failure of both turbochargers at relatively low mileage, Toyota declined to provide further assistance and informed me that its decision was final. Based on the failure of both turbochargers within only 64,000 miles, I believe this may represent a manufacturing or design defect rather than normal wear. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this issue and determine whether similar failures are occurring in other 2022 Toyota Tundra vehicles equipped with the same twin-turbo engine, and whether a safety-related defect investigation is warranted. On June 24, 2026, Safety Recall 20UF (Suction Jet Pump) was completed by an authorized Volkswagen dealer. Upon leaving the dealership, the vehicle immediately experienced a severe engine stall and extended no-start condition. During the recall service, liquid fuel flooded the EVAP lines and charcoal canister, saturating the intake with raw fuel. This caused an immediate safety hazard, stalling the
... vehicle in active traffic in 110+ degree summer heat. The vehicle was brought back to the dealer, who confirmed the stall but incorrectly blamed a fuel injector, refusing to acknowledge the EVAP flooding caused by the recall work. Due to the no-start condition, the vehicle was flatbed towed. Raw fuel from this EVAP lines washed past the piston rings, requiring an emergency engine oil change to prevent catastrophic engine failure from severe oil dilution. VW Customer CARE (Case #07594393) refused reimbursement for the towing ($167.00) and oil flush ($101.74) resulting directly from the botched recall. VW failed to provide a safe, effective, cost-free recall remedy. Repair documents attached.Read more

I purchased a new 2025 Ram 1500. Within the first week of ownership, the vehicle developed repeated engine misfires, check engine lights, and electrical issues, including a dead battery. The vehicle was repaired multiple times under warranty. The engine later suffered an internal failure that required complete engine replacement. After the engine replacement, the vehicle developed a new drivabili
... ty problem. The truck now consistently shudders and hesitates during light acceleration and while maintaining a steady speed. The RPM has fluctuated unexpectedly, and the vehicle feels as though it is being fuel starved. This occurs without a check engine light. The dealership’s technician reproduced the condition during a test drive and confirmed the shudder. Stellantis technical support instructed the dealership to replace the mass airflow sensor as the first step in diagnosis but advised that they do not know whether this will correct the problem. I am concerned that the hesitation and shuddering could affect the vehicle’s ability to accelerate safely when merging into traffic, crossing intersections, or passing other vehicles. The vehicle has been out of service for an extended period while diagnosis and repairs continue.Read more

On June 14, 2026, the driver experienced sudden rough engine running followed immediately by a flashing check engine light. The vehicle was towed to the selling dealer, which has performed all prior maintenance. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and available for inspection. Technician notes show DTC P1326 was stored — the Knock Sensor Detection System code associated with connecting r
... od bearing wear on Kia's Theta II engine family. The technician performed an audible knock check only (none heard) and cleared the code. The vehicle was found approximately 2.5 quarts low on oil due to an internal turbo oil leak. The dealer's notes state the code "may be related" to low oil — hedged language, not confirmed causation. The dealer confirmed the turbo failure but has not performed a bearing clearance test to confirm or rule out bearing damage from the low oil condition. The dealer performed a turbocharger replacement. Despite a verbal commitment from the service manager that a bearing clearance test would follow, no such test was performed 40 days later. When the vehicle was declared ready, the service manager did not recall the commitment and suggested driving 40-50 miles as an alternative. Kia America opened a formal case last month and authorized a partial goodwill adjustment but no one has addressed the safety concern of the unperformed engine test indicated by the thrown code. Driving a vehicle with potential connecting rod bearing wear risks catastrophic engine failure, creating a serious safety hazard. This vehicle has a documented history of oil consumption prior to this incident. The engine has not been cleared for bearing damage following a significant low oil event and a stored P1326 code.Read more

Incident Summary: On 07/16/2026, my 2018 Hyundai Tucson experienced a severe engine failure resulting in sudden knocking sound from engine and stopped in middle of road. This sudden failure while operating the vehicle created an immediate safety risk on the roadway. The vehicle was taken to Rick case Hyundai on 07/22/2026 , where diagnostics confirmed on 07/24/2026 internal engine damage tied
... to connecting rod bearing wear—a known, widespread safety hazard affecting Hyundai 2.0L Nu GDI engines. Reason for Complaint: Hyundai Motor America denied warranty coverage and engine replacement, claiming that Service Campaign 966 / Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software had not been installed prior to the failure. The KSDS update is a software monitoring/warning tool, not a mechanical fix or routine maintenance requirement. Missing a software patch does not cause physical connecting rod bearing failure. Hyundai is using missing software updates to systematically deny coverage for known, dangerous engine defects. I am reporting this incident because sudden engine stalling on public roads poses a severe crash hazard, and Hyundai should not be permitted to avoid addressing safety-critical mechanical failures based on procedural software campaign exclusions.Read more

... 02620101471. This vehicle was subject to Ford Safety Recall 23S27 and Customer Satisfaction Program 23N06, which address a manufacturing defect in the 2.5L HEV/PHEV engine. Under that recall, connecting rod bearing journals were not properly finished, causing premature bearing and engine failure that can release engine oil and fuel vapor into the under-hood area resulting in a fire. The recall remedy was completed on my vehicle, as were all customer satisfaction program campaigns. The dealer performed the PCM software update, which is intended to detect early signs of bearing failure through diagnostic trouble codes (P1061 and P032F) so the failure can be caught before an engine breach occurs. The engine long block was NOT replaced. Under Ford's own criteria, long block replacement was only authorized if the vehicle exhibited loud metal-to-metal clanking noises, a loss of torque, or the associated diagnostic codes. Dealership personnel assured me an engine light would illuminate and I would have time to safely move the vehicle to the side of the road. My vehicle did not have any warnings: no clanking, loss of torque, or leaks-no diagnostic warnings of any kind before the fire. The recall remedy did not prevent the exact failure it was designed to prevent--Ford's response was inadequate to protect owners. My NHTSA VIN lookup shows no open recalls. The specific issue you are dealing with is Chrysler Recall 67C (NHTSA Campaign 25V720). This recall impacts nearly 300,000 Ram ProMaster vans (model years 2018–2026) due to an overheating radiator cooling fan circuit that poses a significant vehicle fire risk. More than 200 of these are from the VA. Edwards Auto Group In Council Bluffs, IA is trying to make the Veterans Health Administration
... pay labor for a safety recall that is stated above. I am reporting them because it is a safety recall and we should not have to pay for extra cost such as a 2x4. Please see below. It is my understanding that the Dealer is in the wrong here. •Absolute Free Labor: Dealerships enter franchise contracts with the manufacturer requiring them to execute recall repairs for free. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is legally obligated to provide the instructions and billable labor hours to the dealership. •The "2x4" Tool Excuse: If a manufacturer's official technical service bulletin specifies a specific physical manipulation or tool—even a makeshift one like a 2x4—to complete the repair, that labor time is factored into the flat-rate time Chrysler pays the dealer. The dealer cannot pass "difficult labor" or tool costs onto you. •No Deductibles or Add-ons: A dealer cannot apply any separate fees or surcharges to offset their operational challenges while resolving a safety defect.Read more

The first problems began in March 2026. No warning lamps turned on. My car began jabbing as I accelerated and a couple days after when I was breaking too. The first mechanic said it could be a coil but the problem didn’t stop after changing it. I then took it to Honda and they confirmed that it was a blown head gasket and that they were surprised no warning messages had appeared. I took it to E
... mpire Automotive to get it fixed, I paid 5K to get it fixed. Three months after getting it fixed I am getting on the freeway and my car stops accelerating. The car behind me had to swerve on the side to avoid hitting me. I was able to move over to the side. Again no warning messages had shown up. I took it back to the mechanic and they confirmed the head gasket had blown out again.Read more

While driving, my 2020 Chevrolet Equinox suddenly lost power and shut off without warning while I was pulling into traffic. The vehicle would buzz not crank afterward but would not restart. This created a safety hazard because the unexpected engine shutdown occurred while the vehicle was in motion. This is the second brake vacuum pump failure I have experienced with this vehicle. In 2022, the brak
... e vacuum pump failed and was found shattered internally. At that time, the engine continued running, and the pump was replaced. During this most recent incident, the brake vacuum pump failed again, and the internal end of the pump broke apart. I replaced the vacuum pump and removed the broken pieces I could access, but the vehicle remains in a crank/no-start condition. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealership or independent repair facility. However, after seeing the shattered pump components, a couple of mechanics I know expressed concern that the broken pieces may have affected the engine timing. That has not been confirmed. The failed pump and replacement parts are available for inspection.Read more

I had recently had my coolant flushed as part of general maintenance and I never

Coolant intrusion into the cylinders causing engine failure. This is a repeat of the known 1.5L EcoBoost defect. The engine was previously replaced in 2021 under TSB 21-2269. The repair order shows Ford installed the original defective open-deck short block (part number DS7Z-6009-G) instead of the updated closed-deck design. The same failure has now returned.
