Purchased this car used in July of 2025 with 77,000 miles. When we went in for the first complimentary oil change at ~5,000 miles, there was no noticeable oil on the dipstick. The dealership continued with the oil change and advised us to come back every 500miles for an oil consumption test. We did this three separate times and each time we were at least a full quart low each time. It was determin
... ed that the engine needed to be replaced. Luckily for us, it was covered under warranty. Our engine was replaced with a remanufactured engine from Kia. When we asked if this problem was going to happen again, we were told yes, but with no timeline. We now have no idea what to expect with this “new, but used” engine and why we were never alerted to the car being low on oil before the first complimentary oil change. Concerns for the purpose of this report are the reliability of these engines and the oil level/pressure sensing system.Read more

The vehicle developed an engine oil leak from the timing cover due to what appears to be premature seal failure. Engine oil was leaking externally and could drip onto hot engine components, creating a potential fire hazard while the vehicle is in operation. The leak also increases the risk of low engine oil levels, which could lead to engine damage or sudden engine failure if not detected in time.
... This issue required an expensive repair despite the vehicle being properly maintained. I have since learned that many other Mazda owners have reported similar timing cover oil leaks on this engine, suggesting this may be a widespread defect rather than normal wear and tear. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can evaluate whether this represents a safety-related defect that warrants further investigation.Read more

In May 2025, I contacted Hyundai regarding excessive oil consumption in my 2021 Palisade. In June, Hyundai directed me to take the vehicle to a dealership for testing. Under TSB 23-EM-008H ([XXX]), a failed oil consumption test requires engine replacement. My vehicle is covered under Hyundai’s 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. I have provided complete maintenance records and receipts fo
... r every oil change since purchasing the vehicle. Despite this, Hyundai has repeatedly denied my claim, citing maintenance issues and gross negligence without justification. Hyundai’s own guidance states that oil changes may be performed every 7,000 to 10,000 miles under normal conditions. The repeated testing process has worsened the engine condition. In addition, the dealership has returned the vehicle with missing bolts, oil-related issues, and damage resulting from an improper rear window film installation. I have made numerous attempts to resolve this matter and obtain the warranty coverage to which I am entitled, but Hyundai and the dealership have failed to do so. I am requesting one of the following remedies: (1) a full engine replacement in accordance with the warranty and TSB requirements, (2) a replacement vehicle of equal or greater trim level, or (3) reimbursement of all costs associated with leasing, purchasing, maintaining, and repairing this vehicle. We purchased this vehicle based on Hyundai’s reputation, ratings, and promise of “America’s Best Warranty.” We still like the vehicle itself, but the ongoing mechanical issues and Hyundai’s handling of this claim have been unacceptable. I am submitting this complaint regarding Ford Recall 26S28 (NHTSA Recall 26V237). My truck exhibited the dangerous unintended downshift condition described in this recall for several weeks before the repair remedy became available. A few weeks weeks before April 27, 2026, the truck began unexpectedly downshifting from approximately 5th or 6th gear into a much lower gear while driving. Each event
... caused the truck to enter limp mode, illuminate the wrench light, display multiple warning lights, and shake violently. I had to pull off the road, shut the truck off, wait several minutes, and restart it before it would drive normally again. I immediately reported these incidents to Mike White Ford and was repeatedly told to monitor the vehicle because no recall remedy was available. I reported the issue again during an oil change on April 27, 2026. Driving home from that appointment (9 miles), the truck experienced two more unintended downshifts. We immediately called the dealership and were again told to continue monitoring it. The condition progressively worsened over the next several weeks. On May 31, 2026, the truck experienced six unintended downshifts in one day. After the final event, it became difficult to restart and the check engine light illuminated. By my June 8 appointment, the truck was stuck in permanent limp mode and had to be towed to the dealership. The service manager stated it was "unsafe to drive" and provided a loaner vehicle. The truck later stored DTC P0219 (Engine Overspeed) and P2112 (Throttle Actuator Control System-Stuck Closed). I estimate the unintended downshift occurred approximately 75 times before the truck became inoperable. I opened Ford case CXH08666656S0W4Q2 on July 21, 2026. I respectfully request that NHTSA review whether prolonged operation with this known recall condition, while owners awaited a repair remedy, may contribute to additional vehicle failures and increased safety risks.Read more

While stopped at a red light, my 2020 Mercedes-Benz A220 unexpectedly shut off and shifted into Neutral without warning. All warning lights illuminated on the dashboard, and a message instructed me to release the brake and restart the engine. The vehicle restarted, but this has now happened twice. The check engine light remains illuminated most of the time. This unexpected engine shutdown creates
... a safety hazard because the vehicle loses power unexpectedly while in traffic. If this were to occur while crossing an intersection or during other traffic conditions, it could increase the risk of a crash. In March 2023, an independent repair facility diagnosed all four fuel injectors as leaking fuel through the electrical connections, causing circuit problems, and warned there was a fuel leak. All four fuel injectors were replaced. In October 2023, a Mercedes-Benz dealership diagnosed rough idle, misfires, lean mixture fault codes, and excessive leakage in cylinder #4. Mercedes replaced the entire cylinder head under warranty. The vehicle is now experiencing unexpected engine stalls despite these previous repairs. I am submitting this complaint because I believe the repeated engine-related failures and unexpected stalling present a potential safety concern. I am aware of a Mercedes recall involving fuel system components on certain A220 vehicles. My VIN is not included, but I am reporting this because my vehicle has experienced repeated fuel- and engine-related failures and now unexpectedly stalls.Read more

I own a 2014 Kia Soul 2.0L GDI that consumes approximately one quart of engine oil every 1,500 miles. The engine oil became dangerously low between oil changes without any warning indicator. The vehicle has also experienced reduced engine performance, declining fuel economy, and previously displayed a P0420 catalytic converter efficiency fault code. Replacing the PCV valve did not improve the con

Kia has acknowledged that catalytic converter damage can create a safety hazard in certain 2012–2016 Kia Soul models equipped with the 1.6L GDI engine, and the NHTSA has issued a recall thereof (see "SC176 – 2012-2016 MY KIA SOUL ENGINE CONTROL UNIT (ECU) LOGIC UPGRADE SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN"). My vehicle is equipped with the 2.0L GDI engine and exhibits similar catalyst- and oil-consumption-related symptoms, but Kia declined assistance because my VIN is not included in the campaign.
