Cold start rattle lasting a second or more. Ford dealer diagnosed it as being bad cam phaser (TSB 23-2143). This is a very common issue with 3.5L engines from 2017-2020 - well documented on forums and youtube (even by ford technicians). I contacted Ford to see if they would assist in covering cost (my vehicle was a previous fleet vehicle and sold certified used in Dec 2020 with warranty running
... out in Dec 2025). Ford had several CSP's related to these engine and model years (21B10 and 21N03). Ford says my vehicle is not affected by these two CSPs and that is why coverage is denied. Dealer did determine my vehicle qualified under both CSPs based on information from the CSP's (make, model, build plant). My vehicle is affected by known bad parts, Ford redesigned VCT. Per Ford technicians, the new VCT design is the only long term fix (PCM reflash and replacing with original VCT parts are not). How can a TSB (23-2143) cover my vehicle when the previous CSP did not - for the same issue. Ford is refusing to assist customers cover cost to replace of known poorly designed parts (why would they redesign if they didn't know)? Ford does not include my vehicle in the CSPs though it matches criteria - Ford possibly drastically understated the number of vehicles affected by these CSP's. Dealer says mine is affected by this but Frod doesn't include my vehicle. This should be a full recall (not time limited under CSPs) as it can cause the vehicle to not start when auto stop/start is enabled (middle of 5 lane highway in Atlanta metro area rush hour). Failure of cam phasers can force vehicle into limp mode reducing ability to operate vehicle . Ford is well aware the parts are faulty and an integral part of the engine, why would they redesign if they were not faulty?Read more

I purchased this vehicle from CarMax about 5 months ago. It had 74,XXX miles. CarMax showed no open recalls and a printed sheet from your site showing the same. Several weeks ago, while driving, the engine seized. I sent it to one of the local Hyundai dealers for repair. Hyundai said because recall Campaign #966 had not been performed, they would not replace the engine under the extended warr
... anty. When I purchased the vehicle, I had the foresight to purchase an extended warranty from Assurant. Eventually I found they will cover the repair. I have to pay the $600 deductible, plus a $350 labor charge for diagnostic work. Here is my problem, CarMax told me there was no open recalls (based on your web site), and I counted on CarMax having an accurate knowledge about this when I purchased the vehicle. This is particularly disturbing because in 2022 CarMax settled out of court with 30+ states in part, for failure to disclose open recalls on vehicles they sold. True, I could have checked myself, but how did your entity report no open recalls on this VIN, and CarMax reported no open recalls on this VIN, but Hyundai was aware of the open recalls, and denied an engine warranty repair because the recall campaign had not been completed? There are two other open campaigns, # 933 and #P33 as well. The Hyundai dealer is going to perform these recalls after the repair. To summarize, I purchased this vehicle in good faith that the information provided on the NHTSA sheet, and the CarMax sheet were correct there were no open recalls. My bank financed the auto under the premise it was a safe reliable risk for them. Now, I'm going to be out $950 plus rental car expenses I've already paid. AAA worked to safely get me out and tow the car to the mechanic my wife and I chose. The mechanic ran a diagnostic report that says p0306 misfire in cylinder 6, and tear in inlet air boot. They said there is an engine problem that they don't service. We towed it to the Honda dealership. Late the next day the mechanic at Honda says we have an engine problem that is not due to the codes on the diagnostic report and is not covered under warranty and costs $7000 for labor and with a rebuilt engine, about 11k to $15k total. He says the engine was seized. He said it initially had no power, then they jumped and put a battery and the engine just made a thud sound. He said he could not generate another diagnostic report because he couldn't get the engine to turn on. We told him we saw that the engine problem was a known issue and that Honda was extending warrantees to 150k and 10yr and could he see if we were haven't that same problem. He said that problem was minor and only covered a few new parts, not the whole engine. I asked why was pep boys able to get a diagnostic and he could not. He said he doesn't know why the engine seized between pep boys and being checked at Honda. He said maybe the previous mechanic did something wrong. On Sunday, April 12, 2026, at approximately 5:00 PM, I experienced a sudden and complete engine failure while driving my 2019 Chevy Silverado equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine. My vehicle had to be towed home and then to [XXX] Casa Chevrolet at [XXX] . After inspection, the dealership informed me that the engine requires a full rebuild, despite the vehicle having only 115,697 miles. According to the dealership, the engine shows **no compression on all cylinders**, **crankshaft and camshaft compression failure**, **pistons coated in oil and fuel with visible damage**, and a **non‑functioning timing chain likely due to a broken guide**. These findings mirror the exact symptoms currently under investigation in GM’s **EA25007** inquiry involving the 6.2L V8 (L87) engines in 2021–2025 GM trucks and SUVs GM has already issued a major recall affecting nearly **600,000 vehicles** due to defective connecting rods and crankshafts that can cause sudden engine failure, stalling, and potential fire hazards. Although my 2019 Silverado is not included in the recall, it is experiencing the same catastrophic engine failure associated with the defective components identified in the investigation. The dealership has quoted me $10,000 for an engine rebuild and has refused to assist with the cost. I have also filed a complaint directly with GM, as this failure presents the same safety risks and mechanical defects acknowledged in the recalled models. The vehicle experienced repeated catastrophic engine failures, including failure of a replacement engine. Approximately six months after purchase and at around 80,000 miles, the engine failed and required a complete engine replacement through Volkswagen and the MaxCare service contract. Approximately one to one and a half years later, at around 120,000 miles, the replacement engine also failed. T

Volkswagen later recommended another complete engine rebuild or replacement along with additional engine-related repairs. The vehicle became non-operable and could no longer be safely or reliably driven. The repeated failure of both the original engine and replacement engine suggests an ongoing defect-related condition rather than normal wear or an isolated mechanical failure. The problems were confirmed and documented by Volkswagen service personnel. Similar engine-related concerns involving oil consumption, lubrication issues, timing system concerns, and engine performance problems are also reflected in Volkswagen Technical Service Bulletins involving this type of engine.Read more

The upper radiator hose on some huge percentage of these trucks fail (mine has failed at just over 35k miles). You can check the Colorado Chevy forum, youtube, etc., et al, and find plenty of instances where this has failed. As this is the cooling system, it can cause the engine to overheat and potentially ruin the engine. The flaw seems to be an engineering issue with the rubber seal they use (in
... stead of a high quality o-ring) to seal the upper hose to the radiator. Additionally, since this can cause engine failure it should be addressed immediately. Instead, my local Chevy dealer, since its not a recall item, said they could schedule a time next week for me to LEAVE the truck and then they would get to it in 7-10 days. At approximately 1,700 miles, my brand-new 2026 Ford Explorer ST (3.0L EcoBoost) suffered a sudden, catastrophic engine failure while driving, causing an immediate and dangerous loss of motive power. Prior to the failure, the engine experienced severe misfires. Following manufacturer Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) guidance regarding EcoBoost engine misfires, a step-colder spark plug heat range (
... NGK LTR7IX-11) was utilized to remedy pre-ignition. Ford Motor Company has denied warranty coverage for this catastrophic powertrain failure, falsely claiming the TSB-compliant heat-range plugs caused the destruction. The sudden loss of engine power poses an immediate safety hazard on public roads. I request an investigation into 2025-2026 Ford 3.0L EcoBoost spark plug issues, pre-ignition failures, and unfair warranty denials leaving dangerous vehicles unresolved."Read more
