While driving on the and merging onto the highway, the check engine light and other alerts came on our 2021 GMC Yukon. There was a fluttering noise coming from the engine and the vehicle started to have decreased acceleration. We had to immediately exit the highway and park the vehicle. We then had to take our vehicle to our regular mechanic since GMC dealership was backed up and we needed the ve
... hicle repaired. Our mechanic has identified the issue to be with the engine. The lifters in the engine broke which also damaged the cam shaft. This is a very costly repair. Our vehicle is four years old and out of warranty since we have 80k miles on our four year old Yukon. This problem with the GMC L84 5.3L V8 engines seems to be a common issue and other owners have posted their frustrations on various websites and there is currently no recall on this 5.3L engine. This is a safety issue and a recall should be issued like the one for the 6.2L engine. Why is there no recall for the 5.3L engine? A recall needs to be issued for the GMC L84 5.3L V8.Read more

On [XXX}, my 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe SEL 2.0T (VIN: [XXX] ) experienced sudden complete engine failure accompanied by a strong burning smell. This appears to be related to the known Theta II engine defect that has caused multiple recalls and engine fires in Hyundai ve

In May 2025, the vehicle (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe) developed severe sluggishness. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and I was told the engine would need to replaced due to a recall. Four months later (week of Sept 14 {exact date not known}), the engine was replaced and the vehicle made available for pickup. I drove it home (8.1 miles) and all seemed normal. It sat in the driveway for approx. one w
... eek. On Sept 22, 2025, I drove to the store (8.4 miles round-trip). On the way to the store, the engine light came on. I immediately called the dealership and reported the problem. The car was taken in that night (a trip of 8.1 miles) and left at the dealership. On Sept 23, 2025, I was informed that the intake manifold needed to be replaced (this had caused the engine light to come on) at my cost of approx $1000. The car remains at the dealership (unused by me). Online research revealed that if debris had been found in the manifold, it was to be replaced along with the engine (Hyundai TSB #22-EM-010H DATE JULY 2022). The following has been cut-and-pasted from the web: The issue of the intake manifold not being replaced or cleaned after an engine failure is a direct result of the core defect. When the old engine failed, it likely shed metallic debris and shrapnel. That debris could have traveled into other components, including the intake manifold. If the manifold is not cleaned or replaced, the new engine draws that old metallic debris back in, causing it to fail again almost immediately. NHTSA indirectly mandated that the repair must be COMPLETE AND EFFECTIVE. When a dealership refuses a critical part of that repair (like cleaning the manifold), they are effectively carrying out an incomplete remedy to a safety recall, which is a violation of the manufacturer's federal obligation under the Consent Order. It is my contention that residual debris in the intake manifold caused the warning light and will quite possibly damage the new engine.Read more

JEEP 2024 Wrangler 4XE HYBRID EXPLODED VIN# [XXX] On [XXX], just before [XXX], our 2024 hybrid vehicle began emitting smoke while parked in our attached garage. Thankfully, our smoke alarm alerted us - my wife discovered it was coming from the garage and immediately called 911. Police arrived within minutes and were able to push the car out of the garage. Shortly after that, the vehicle caught
... fire. First responders later told us that if my wife had not acted quickly, the fire could have easily spread to our home—potentially resulting in a total loss, or worse, endangering our lives if it had happened while we were asleep. It took four hours of continuous firefighting to manage the flames. The Hazmat team explained that this was due to “thermal runaway”, a dangerous chain reaction in lithium-ion batteries where heat builds uncontrollably, leading to fire or even explosions. These types of fires can’t be extinguished conventionally—they must burn out once the chemical reaction is complete. Some Important Context: This vehicle is the same year, make, and model as those recently recalled for hybrid battery fire risks. However, our VIN was not included in the recall—something we now believe may have been an oversight, as the circumstances appear nearly identical. Back in June, the car had another serious issue: it shut down completely despite a full gas tank and a 50% EV charge. It had to be towed to the dealership, and was returned to us a day or 2 later, marked as “repaired.” After the fire - I reviewed the service paperwork, we found that the specific error code pointed to unstable hybrid battery voltage—a potential sign of a failing battery pack. According to documentation on that error code POB24, complete replacement of the hybrid battery is considered the only safe fix. That repair was never performed—and worse, we were never informed of the severity of the issue. This negligence should be addressed as it almost killed us. To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint to report that a Kia dealership of garden grove, ca falsely recorded a safety recall as “completed” on my 2019 Kia Soul Upon review from another kia dealer, I discovered that the recall repair — essential to prevent engine failure — was never actually performed. My engine has now failed catastrophically (broken connecting rod at 128

This misrepresentation by the dealership not only endangered my safety but also undermines the recall process intended to protect consumers. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this matter and ensure accountability for the dealer and manufacturer. To answer your questions more directly. : 1.Connecting rod exploded out of engine. Kia is aware of thier faulty torque on said part. 2 My wife was driving on the free way with her kid at the time and could have caused a major accident. 3.yes they had a class action lawsuit against the recall. 4. The car is waiting at kia dealer. I was told that the update they didnt do that was put out in 2022 was not done when bought and brought to said dealer in January 2024 and that another recall was said to be done but was not done . 5. On September 2, 2025, the vehicle’s Hybrid System shut down on cold start and the vehicle would not start. A dealer inspection reported coolant had entered cylinder #4, allegedly causing the engine block to warp, the cylinder head to crack, and the head gasket to fail. This was a sudden catastrophic engine failure on a five-year-old vehicle with no prior overheating warnings, no dashboard alert
... s, and no performance issues in the days leading up to the failure. It is highly unlikely for an engine block to warp without sustained overheating, yet the failure occurred on a cold start. The dealership itself described this as a “premature failure” in their service report. At approximately 26,000 miles, the vehicle’s coolant thermostat failed and was replaced under warranty. If the thermostat stuck closed even briefly, the engine could have experienced one or more silent overheat events that never registered on the dashboard. In aluminum blocks, even short bursts of high localized heat can create latent distortion that doesn’t cause immediate problems but can eventually lead to catastrophic failure years later. Safety Risk: – Vehicle became disabled suddenly without warning. – Engine failure occurred without overheating symptoms, creating risk of sudden shutdown during use. Problem Confirmation: – Engine failure confirmed by a Toyota-authorized dealer. – Dealer service report explicitly called this a “premature failure.” Warning Lamps / Symptoms: – A check engine light appeared briefly three days before failure, then cleared on its own. – No overheating warnings or drivability issues were observed prior to failure.Read more

The vehicle burned on the shoulder of a busy highway in Montana, posing danger to us and to surrounding motorists.
