While driving home from Costco with my entire family in the vehicle (4 children and my pregnant wife), I noticed the engine misfiring while traveling on Interstate 80 and mentioned to my wife that something felt off with the vehicle. After exiting I-80 onto Route 46 East at the Denville exit, the truck reached the first traffic light where the vehicle rumbled violently, shook, and completely shut
... off. The engine would not restart. Dashboard lights illuminated but the engine would not turn over, and the hazard lights would not activate. This created a dangerous roadside situation with traffic approaching from behind at approximately 50 MPH. I exited the vehicle and stood in the roadway directing traffic to prevent an accident while my wife attempted to restart the vehicle and called 911. Police arrived and a tow truck was dispatched. The tow truck driver attempted to jump start the vehicle, but it would not start. The vehicle had to be winched onto a flatbed tow truck.Read more

Unintended acceleration, on 2 occasions. First occasion, car was in DRIVE waiting at a traffic stop and the engine radically increased it's RPM from idle to over 6000 RPM, remaining there. Braking control maintained the automobile's position. Shifting the car into neutral caused RPM to increase further. The car was shut off, restarted, and seemed to function normally. While driving down the highway experienced a partial loss of engine power causing jerky/rough operation, harsh shifting, and unpredictable behavior. My 2015 Ford Edge suddenly turned into a nightmare on what started as a normal drive. Almost at the same time, the engine began feeling like it was slipping—power dropped off, it hesitated and ran rough under acceleration, almost as if the transmission were slipping, but it
... was the engine itself struggling from poor lubrication. Turns out coolant had gotten into the oil (a pretty common headache with these 3.5L V6 models, often from a failing internal water pump). The mixture turned my oil into a gross, milky sludge that couldn't lubricate the engine properly anymore, leading to overheating and a slipping sensation as things started to bind up inside. I had to pull over quickly before it got even worse—definitely not something I want to go through again.Read more

I am the owner of a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe which is currently subject to two urgent safety recalls: Recall 68C (NHTSA 25V-741) regarding a high-voltage battery fire risk, and Recall 95B (NHTSA 25V-766) regarding engine sand contamination. On March 13, 2026, I attempted to have these recalls addressed at an authorized dealership (Brooksville Jeep). I reported two specific safety symptoms: A
... bnormal loud engine noise during acceleration and shifting, which is a documented warning sign of catastrophic engine failure under Recall 95B. Significant electric range depletion (a 10% drop from 32 miles to 29 miles), indicating potential battery cell instability under Recall 68C. Despite these reported safety symptoms and the official "Park Outside / Do Not Charge" advisory, the dealership and the manufacturer's recall department refused to provide a loaner or rental vehicle. They instead placed me on a "waitlist" and instructed me to continue driving the vehicle. By refusing to provide a safe, non-defective loaner vehicle while remedies are "under development," the manufacturer is forcing me to operate a vehicle that is a documented fire and stalling hazard. This puts my safety, the safety of my passengers, and my property at risk of a thermal event or a sudden loss of propulsion on public roadsRead more

... America’s National Consumer Affairs Department, addressed to Case Manager Bryan, at [XXX] and via the official email: [XXX] . STEP 1: Falsification of Title Status (Code A99) Hyundai initiated its denial by alleging that the vehicle held a "Salvage" title status, citing internal code A99. EVIDENCE: I possess a Certified and Stamped Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from the Arizona MVD, as well as my Clean Title. Mr. Bryan categorically asserted that code A99 "cannot be removed," thereby deliberately disregarding an Official State Certification. STEP 2: Allegation of Negligence (Karen) Corporate representative Karen claimed via telephone that the vehicle's failure was attributable to "negligent maintenance." EVIDENCE: The Official WebDCS report—printed by Mr. Ismael Barragán (Service Drive Manager)—completely refutes this claim; the Blue Link service history indicates "0 FINDINGS." STEP 3: Fabricated Diagnosis and Breakdown of Improper Charges After being compelled by Mr. Bryan to take the vehicle to the dealership for a diagnosis, the narrative shifted to an "Oil Pump Failure." A 2018 Honda Accord 1.5T developed an engine misfire, coolant loss, and reduced acceleration shortly after purchase from a dealership on 01/07/2026 (around 156,000 miles / $15,000). On 01/23/2026, during a Honda dealer inspection at about 157,255 miles, the technician noted misfires on startup, found the coolant overflow reservoir empty, pressure-tested the system, and confirmed coolant leaking in
... to cylinders 3 and 4 from the head gasket. The dealer recommended head gasket replacement plus spark plugs, drive belt, and valve adjustment. I was told that continued driving could worsen the condition, leading to overheating and further engine damage. After that diagnosis, the vehicle’s drivability worsened, and it became unsafe to rely on due to misfires and loss of acceleration, especially on the highway. The selling dealership refused to assist, claiming the defect was not present at the time of sale; Honda America acknowledged the head gasket concern but denied a goodwill claim, citing the high cost of the issue and lack of NHTSA enforcement on this issue. An independent repair shop then provided a second inspection/estimate consistent with the same head-gasket repair scope. The vehicle and repair records are available for inspection. No crash or injury occurred, but the defect caused a sudden loss of power and overheating while driving; I was stuck on the highway on two occasions with my hazard lights on after acceleration completely halted. Warning symptoms (the engine light) only appeared when the car suddenly stopped accelerating. Two days after an around-$5,000 headgasket repair, drivability problems and multiple dashboard warnings appeared, including turbo-related concerns; this concern is ongoing.Read more

My 2017 Kia Sportage with approximately 98,000 miles suddenly started using oil at times. It would go for several trips with everything fine and then it would be a quart low. ... me after checking all fluids - they were fine. I trailered the car to my mechanic and after diagnosing it, he stated the #1 cylinder had no compression. I brought it home and checked online to find out that this seemed to be a common occurrence with the Sportage. To double check, I took the car to a second mechanic to get the same results except he provided more detail. Compression on #1 Cylinder 0, #2 was 140, #3 145, #4 140. He stated the compression should be above 175. My safety issue was I could have been stranded on I49 and if this had happened at night, I may not have been able to get it home. I took the vehicle to Crain Kia, Fayetteville, AR. when the first Check Engine Light came on and they stated it was shown as low engine oil even though it had oil in the engine and that it showed low compression on Cylinder 4. This car is a very well-maintained, low-use vehicle with regular oil changes and routine maintenance performed on schedule. Early in this drive, I noticed an unusual hissing sound as I approached a stop. When I tried to brake, I realized my brakes didn't seem to be responding. I pressed the brake pedal harder and realized that with 50-100 pounds of pressure (guess), I could slow the car down.
... As I came to a stop, the engine died. I restarted the car, and it died again immediately. After the following restart, I realized I could manually keep the RPM up in neutral while at stops, and press with significant force to get the car to stop. Had I not been comfortable two foot driving or understood the issue, this surely would have resulted in a crash of some sort. The car indicated a check engine light, loss of traction control, a flashing BRAKE light, and a flashing cruise control light. I took the car immediately to a local shop where they identified the problem as a vacuum leak at the brake booster. The plastic piece that the hose clamps onto had cracked off, leading to this problem. This make and model does not seem to have a check valve downstream of this component.Read more

2013 BMW 328i, N20 engine. Timing chain guide assembly and oil pump drive chain failed catastrophically. Vehicle is available for inspection, however the authorized BMW dealership has already made clear they will accept no responsibility, and I would bear the expense of towing it two hours to their facility. The failure is a known issue with a class action case, but BMW took no responsibility, and
... falsified information stating the vehicle showed no signs of an issue when I brought my vehicle in for inspection. Eighteen months before failure, steam came from the engine compartment on a humid day, later connected to the water pump electrical connector recall. Following this, the vehicle ran consistently hotter than normal and lost noticeable power. Twelve months before failure, an intermittent oil pressure warning began triggering under load at highway speeds, particularly on inclines above 70mph. I brought the vehicle to Sandia BMW in Albuquerque, NM and reported all symptoms when I was contacted by them for the recall. The service advisor falsely claimed elevated operating temperature was optimal, suspected a faulty sensor, and returned the vehicle without offering further diagnosis or making me aware of the impending issue, all classic signs of the engine faults. Eight weeks later, the oil pressure light activated on a highway, followed immediately by a drivetrain malfunction warning, a violent grinding sound, and complete loss of power. The vehicle was towed and has not restarted since. I contacted BMW of North America's recall line. A case was opened and an advocate stated BMW would accept no responsibility because the class action was closed and I'mpast 70K miles. I raised the dealership's direct culpability. The advocate stated a dealership representative would contact me. No call was ever received. This failure is consistent with BMW Service Bulletin SI B11 03 17. Vehicle was brought to an authorized Ford dealership for coolant leak. The dealer confirmed a coolant leak originating from the internal water pump. The water pump on this engine is chain-driven and located inside the engine behind the timing cover, requiring approximately 12 hours of labor to access and replace. This is a known design defect affecting millions of Ford vehicles with the 3.5L Cyclo
... ne/Duratec engine across multiple model years (2007-2020). The defect allows coolant to leak past the bearing seal, with potential to mix with engine oil and cause catastrophic engine failure. This is a serious safety risk as failure can occur without warning while driving. The problem was confirmed and documented by the Ford dealership. No warning lights appeared prior to the leak being discovered. Repair cost exceeded $4,300. This defect was the subject of a federal class action lawsuit (Roe v. Ford Motor Company, Eastern District of Michigan) which was settled confidentially in January 2024 without a recall being issued. Ford has not notified owners of this known defect or offered any remedy program to US customers, despite a Canadian class action resulting in relief for affected owners there. The check engine light came on and the vehicle stored diagnostic trouble code P0A2D, which indicates a failure of the drive motor/temperature sensor circuit that is integrated into the transmission/hybrid motor assembly. According to the Lexus dealer’s diagnosis, the temperature control sensor located on the transmission/hybrid drive u
... nit has failed. Because Lexus designed this sensor as part of the transmission assembly, the dealer has stated the sensor cannot be replaced separately and that the only repair is to replace the entire transmission. Lexus is refusing to acknowledge this as a manufacturing defect and is requiring me, the consumer, to pay the full cost of a complete transmission replacement, estimated at approximately $9,040.03, solely due to the failure of this internal temperature sensor. This is a critical component used to monitor drive motor/transmission temperature. A malfunctioning sensor of this type can lead to improper system operation, possible overheating, loss of power, or unpredictable behavior of the hybrid drive system while the vehicle is in motion, which presents a safety risk to occupants and other road users. This failure occurred during normal use on public roads and not due to any accident, abuse, or modification. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether there is a design or manufacturing defect in the drive motor/transmission temperature sensor and its housing or circuitry on the 2020 Lexus RX 450h (and related Toyota/Lexus hybrid models) that forces owners to replace the entire transmission when this internal sensor fails. This appears to be an unreasonable safety‑related defect and an unreasonable repair burden on consumers.Read more

While driving in traffic the vehicle suddenly began to sputter and lose power with check engine light flashing on the dash board. I was able to pull over and limp the car the one mile to my home on side streets. I parked the vehicle and called for a tow truck to tow the vehicle to my local dealership that I purchased the car from brand new. This is the third time this failure has occurred. The
... first occurrence was in October of 2023, the second was in November of 2024. The first two repairs were made at a local independent repair shop in the city of Orange ca. the first occurrence was cylinder 1 and the repair shop indicated that this is a common occurrence in this make and model. The report was a replacement of the spark plug and coil pack as oil was found to be in spark plug chamber. The second occurrence was similar but on a different spark plug (I believe number 2 or 3). This occurrence was diagnosed by the dealer and required a replacement of piston rings and major engine repair and oil in spark plug number 2 I believe. In July of 2025 American Honda sent me a notice in the mail of a known defect affecting this vehicle and offered a repair for this exact problem within an extended warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles whichever is first. This was my first reciept of such information from Honda. The extended warranty however was sent to me after the 10 year warranty was already expired as I has purchased the vehicle new in October of 2014. American Honda then had fine print at the bottom of the notice extending the extension to Jan. 31st 2026. 15 days later my vehicle experienced the acknowledged problem for the 3rd time. In July of 2025 I contacted my dealership and advised them of the letter I had received and asked for an inspection and or repair of the problem listed. The service advisor spoke with his service manager, and they refused to inspect and or repair the vehicle due to no warning light or symptoms occurring at that time.Read more

My 2022 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden catastrophic engine failure at approximately 154,000 miles while driving under normal conditions. The failure involved the vehicle’s engine and resulted in a loud knocking noise followed by loss of engine power and the vehicle becoming inoperable. The Honda dealership diagnosed the engine as having internal engine failure with metal contamination prese
... nt in the oil, indicating severe internal engine damage. Based on the symptoms and the diagnosis, the failure appears consistent with possible connecting rod or connecting rod bearing failure. The failed engine remains installed in the vehicle and should be available for inspection upon request. Prior to the failure there were no warning lights or messages, and the oil pressure warning light never illuminated. The vehicle had proper oil levels and no indication of low oil pressure before the failure occurred. A sudden internal engine failure that causes loss of engine power while driving presents a safety concern because it can occur without warning and may leave the driver unable to maintain speed or safely maneuver in traffic, particularly at highway speeds. The problem has been confirmed by a Honda dealership, which documented the condition as internal engine failure with metal contamination in the oil and advised that the engine must be replaced. The estimated repair cost exceeds $6,000. The manufacturer has been notified of the failure through a customer assistance case, but the vehicle has not been physically inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. This complaint is being submitted to document the sudden internal engine failure and possible connecting rod bearing failure in case similar failures are occurring in other vehicles equipped with the same engine design.Read more
