NHTSA SAFETY COMPLAINT: RECALL SC336 (CAMPAIGN 21V-301) NON-COMPLIANCE VIN: [XXX] I. PATTERN OF RECALL EVASION Vehicle (2021 Kia Soul) was towed to Classic Kia [XXX] ) on 3/13 with documented engine stalling, knocking, and codes P0014/P0017 (VVT/Timing failure). The dealership withheld this data from Kia Techline for 13 days (3/13–3/26), delaying the safety remedy until state authorities inter
... vened. II. MECHANICAL IMPOSSIBILITY & REMEDY VIOLATION On Saturday 3/28, the dealer claimed a full engine swap was "installed and tested" in only 6.5 hours (7:30 AM–2:15 PM). Per the SC336 mandate, a compliant Long Block assembly (Part # ending in QQK) requires extensive fluid flushes, software reflashing, and safety recalibrations that cannot be performed correctly in this window. I suspect a "Short Block" shortcut was taken, reusing contaminated components in violation of the federal safety remedy. III. FRAUD BY OMISSION & UNIFIED SAFETY HAZARD The dealership is demanding a $99 "diagnostic fee" for an exhaust back-pressure test. Under SC336, testing for "consequential damage" (clogged catalytic converter) caused by the recall defect must be covered by the manufacturer. By omitting the stalling/timing symptoms from the initial Techline report, the dealer bypassed the mandatory exhaust safety testing. Reusing oil-contaminated VVT solenoids, camshafts, and valves from the failed engine poses an immediate fire and safety hazard. IV. DEMAND FOR INVESTIGATION I request NHTSA oversight to ensure Classic Kia provides: 1. Proof of Long Block (21101-QQK) installation vs. unauthorized Short Block (21102). 2. Time-stamped DEVT and GDS Full System Scan logs from 3/28. 3. Verification that all contaminated components were replaced, as a partial remedy leaves the vehicle in a hazardous state. Reusing oil-soaked VVT/cams & skipping exhaust tests creates a fire risk. An incomplete remedy violates SC336, leaving the car a high-risk liability for fire & stalling. Summary of Incident: On March 28, 2026, while traveling at 70 MPH on the Florida Turnpike, the vehicle suffered an instantaneous loss of motive power. The engine died abruptly with no warning. Upon reaching the shoulder, the electronic transmission locked, refusing to shift into Neutral or Park. The engine cranks but will not start. 1. Component Failure & Availability: The exact component is curr
... ently unknown, but the failure involves the Powertrain, Fuel System, and Electronic Transmission Control. The vehicle is currently at an authorized dealership and is available for inspection by the manufacturer or NHTSA upon request. 2. Safety Risk: The sudden loss of power at highway speeds created an immediate risk of a rear-end collision. Because the electronic transmission locked and would not allow the vehicle to be shifted into Neutral, it became a fixed object on a high-speed shoulder. It could not be pushed to a safer location, increasing the risk of a secondary accident. 3. Problem Reproduction: The vehicle was towed directly to an authorized Chevrolet dealership. As of this filing, the dealership is in possession of the vehicle, but the failure has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a technician as they are awaiting formal diagnostic commencement. 4. Inspections: The vehicle was inspected by a roadside towing professional for transport. It is currently at the manufacturer’s authorized service center awaiting a formal diagnostic inspection. No police or insurance inspections have occurred. 5. Warning Symptoms: There were no warning lamps, "Check Engine" lights, or messages prior to the failure. No symptoms like rough idling or unusual noises occurred. The vehicle performed normally until the moment of total power loss.Read more

From this point forward the car drives in “low engine power mode” even with repairs completed and codes cleared. 2- 2 years later the same part “brake vacuum pump” exploded again. Another $1000 repair. At this time we discovered that the fine particles that were not removed from motor has now knocked the timing off by 8%. Also it has caused a knick in a seal causing an oil leak under 100k miles $1800 repair. After these extensive repairs…… The car emits gas fumes into cabin. The smell is so strong it can’t be parked in the garage because it circulates through the house. Even when car is not running. The Car can’t be driven because risk of fire or explosion from gas. Fuel system gets cleaned. Injectors replaced. The car temporarily runs without the gas smell. 2 weeks later the gas smell returns Come to find out the fuel pump failed. Incident date: Mar 28, 2026
While driving, the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. The engine lost power and multiple dashboard warning lights illuminated. The vehicle then displayed a malfunction related to the transmission, with the park (“P”) indicator blinking, and the vehicle would not shift out of park. The failure appears to be related to an electrical or ignition system issue, possibly the ignition switch
... . This created a significant safety risk as the vehicle lost power while in motion, increasing the risk of a crash. Prior to the failure, the only warning observed was a check engine light. No other warning messages were present before the incident. The problem has been confirmed by an independent mechanic/contractor. The failed component is available for inspection upon request. Incident Date: 12/28/2025 Location: [XXX] Related Recall: 23V905 / 23S64 On December 28, 2025, while driving at highway speeds on [XXX] , my 2020 Ford EcoSport suffered a sudden engine fire. There were no prior dashboard warnings or "Check Engine" lights until the fire began, the vehicle speed started to slow down itself, and I immediately pulled over on the side of the interstate. I turned of
... f the vehicle, and lifted the hood, since I saw smoke, and there was a fire under the hood. I called [XXX] , and the [XXX] /Cobb County Fire Department responded to the scene and inspected the vehicle under the hood. I have video evidence of the fire department on-scene and the emergency inspection of the burning engine. This vehicle is subject to Safety Recall 23V905 (Ford 23S64) for oil pump belt/tensioner failure leading to engine seizure. Crucially, a recall "repair" had been previously performed on this vehicle, yet the engine still suffered a catastrophic thermal event. This indicates either an ineffective remedy or a negligent installation. The vehicle was towed to Hennessy Ford [XXX] ). Their diagnosis confirmed: "COIL PACK BURN AND BURNED THE #2 INJECTOR AND HARNESS AND VALVE COVER." Despite the federal mandate that recall-related failures be handled at no cost, the dealership attempted to charge me over $2,000 for the diagnosis and repairs. Furthermore, Ford Customer Relationship Center (escalated 03/27/2026) has stalled the case by moving it to legal counsel with a 15-day waiting period. I am reporting this as a serious safety defect and a failure of a prior recall remedy. I am requesting a full investigation into the fire and a manufacturer buyback as the vehicle's safety integrity is now compromised. Gas Motor is not engaging to assist electric drivetrain on a hybrid AWD 2025 Santa Fe. This resulted in a dangerous situation crossing a busy road from a stop sign. The Santa Fe rolled into the intersection at the drivers request, but did not accelerate normally (only to a maximum of a few miles per hour) and felt like an eternity to cross the road. Fortunately oncoming drivers from left and right
... were paying attention and slowed down and in one case honked aggressively to point out we driving badly. Pulling over to the side of the road, turning the vehicle off and then back on again has sometimes made it run normally, but we limited our trips at that point to first getting safely home and then delivering it to the dealer. The 20 mile drive to the dealer required pulling over twice to reset the vehicle so the electric motor would assist. We have had repeated warnings from the onboard system including "Follow up checks required - Engine Management System" and "There may be a problem with the engine management system Contact your Dealer". I will note that we have 11,000 miles and 11 months experience with the vehicle with NO problems. It may not be relevant, but these new faults began 2 days routine service for oil and tire rotation when recall was performed including ECU Software Update for Recall 25-01-028-1. Dealer is uncertain of problem and referring with outside tech assistance from Hyundai but we were told to expect 2 weeks for parts and repair and uncertainty as to whether that would fix it. In the meantime a vehicle with unreliable acceleration and top speed is unsafe and parked. I do note on this NHTSA website 2025 HYUNDAI SANTA FE HYBRID SUV AWD that there are 47 Complaints. 9 relating to this problem all beginning October 2025 and none prior back to the first post of Nov 2024 for this model. Complaints similar to this for engine management and speed and power loss account for 50% of complaints for this vehicle on the NHSTA website since October 2025.Read more

I purchased a used 2015 Jeep Wrangler from a dealership in New York. At the time of sale, the vehicle had an open urgent safety recall (19V-018) for a defective Takata passenger airbag inflator. This recall was never disclosed to me by the dealership prior to or at the time of purchase. The recall advisory was noted on the NYS inspection report conducted the same morning the vehicle was sold to me
... , but was not communicated to me in any way. I discovered the open recall after experiencing repeated mechanical failures following purchase. Four days after purchase the vehicle overheated and had to be towed — the coolant system was found to be completely empty. An independent licensed mechanic subsequently inspected the vehicle and stated on record that the mechanical defects appeared to be pre-existing conditions that existed prior to the sale. The vehicle currently has an unrepaired Takata airbag inflator which the manufacturer has identified as capable of exploding and sending metal fragments into the vehicle interior at high speed, risking serious injury or death to occupants. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The recall remains unrepaired. The dealership was contacted and a manager verbally acknowledged they did not disclose the known defect prior to sale.Read more

My vehicle is a GMC Sierra 1500 Duramax diesel. The vehicle experienced a failure of the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) system, which was diagnosed by the dealership as a failure of the DEF tank heater. Th
... e dealership confirmed that the required part is on national backorder with no confirmed availability date. This condition creates a significant reliability and potential safety concern. When the DEF system fails, the vehicle can enter a reduced power or speed-limited mode, which may occur during normal driving and could create unsafe conditions in traffic. Additionally, there appears to be a broader pattern of similar failures affecting other vehicles of the same type, combined with extended delays in obtaining replacement parts. The lack of parts availability results in extended periods where the vehicle cannot be safely or reliably operated.Read more

I have had to wait approximately 15 minutes before the vehicle will allow me to shut it down.Second, while driving at approximately 40 mph, including while exiting the highway, the vehicle has stalled and completely shut off while in motion. This has occurred multiple times and created a significant safety risk due to sudden loss of power during active driving. Additionally, the vehicle frequently displays a message stating "engine warming, please wait to start," even when weather conditions are warm. Most recently, at approximately 70 degrees outside, the vehicle would not start and continued to display the message. I waited approximately one hour attempting to start the vehicle before it randomly started. These issues appear to be worsening. I attempted to schedule repair for the open recall, but I was advised by the manufacturer that there is currently no remedy available. Took my car in for oil piston recall. H&H KIA advised my oil level was low. I advised oil change just done 1/16/2026 and under the 6 month/7500 mile oil change recommendation. I provided screenshot that show it could indicate problem related to recall. Dealership did inspection and did advise no oil leak. When I asked about this they advised I had to pay for an engine clean and also an oil test. I

Approximately 7 months ago, my 2015 Honda Odyssey experienced an engine misfire with code P0302 (cylinder 2). All spark plugs were replaced at that time and the issue appeared resolved. The vehicle only has 71,000 miles on it, which makes this recurring issue particularly concerning. Based on m
