Knocking noise in motor and metal flakes in the oil. Called local dealership. They report no recalls for this issue.
Incident date: Apr 2, 2026
The vehicle's engine has suffered a catastrophic internal failure at approximately 56,000 miles. The engine is the 6.4-liter HEMI V8. The issue began with a loud ticking noise from the engine. I brought the vehicle to Stoneridge Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Pleasanton for diagnosis. At that visit, the dealership lubricated an unspecified component and instructed me to continue driving. The ticking nois
... e temporarily subsided. Shortly after, the check engine light illuminated. I returned the vehicle to the same dealership, where the technician retrieved diagnostic trouble code P0303 (cylinder 3 misfire). Upon further inspection, the technician found scoring on the cylinder 3 wall, a persistent loud ticking noise from the engine, and metal contamination in the engine oil sample. The dealership diagnosed the failure as requiring a complete engine long block replacement at a quoted cost exceeding $23,000. The powertrain warranty has expired based on the 3-year time limit; however, the vehicle has fewer than 56,000 miles, which is well below the warranty's mileage threshold and exceptionally low for a vehicle of this age. The vehicle has been properly maintained throughout ownership with regular oil changes and scheduled service intervals. No aftermarket modifications have been made; the engine and all related components remain factory stock. I contacted Stellantis customer care to request assistance. They stated that because the vehicle is no longer under warranty, there is nothing they can do, and that the dealership should have submitted a goodwill assistance request on my behalf. The dealership said they would look into it. A complete engine failure at this mileage on an engine marketed as a high-performance powerplant suggests a manufacturing or material defect rather than normal wear and tear.Read more

While driving at approximately 70 mph on I-76 , a “CVT HOT” warning appeared on the dashboard. Immediately after, the vehicle lost power and would not accelerate normally, creating a safety hazard in traffic. I was forced to pull over multiple times. This issue began after a recall repair was performed on the vehicle. The condition resolved temporarily after shutting the vehicle off, but the f
... ailure was sudden and dangerous. While driving, multiple warning messages appeared including AWD system errors and check engine light. The vehicle’s performance became unstable and unreliable. This created concern about loss of control and drivability. The vehicle had recently undergone recall service, after which these issues began occurring intermittently. The vehicle was brought to an authorized Nissan dealership multiple for diagnosis of the CVT warning, AWD errors, and loss of power. The dealership kept the vehicle for several hours on multiple occasions but stated they were unable to replicate the issue. No repair was performed any of the times. The safety concern remains unresolved. This continually happens and they yell at me saying there's nothing they could do. To be direct: I am aware that “unable to replicate” is often used to avoid opening warranty claims or authorizing costly repairs. However, this does not resolve the issue, nor does it eliminate the safety risk. The vehicle is demonstrably unsafe when the failure occurs, and the burden should not be shifted onto the customer simply because the issue is intermittent.Read more

I own a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado with approximately 84,000 miles. Prior to the engine failure, I noticed abnormal engine ticking noise, especially during cold starts. I reported this concern to the dealership during a service visit. The technician verified the engine noise but stated that the noise was normal and no repairs were performed. Over time the condition worsened and the vehicle began exp
... eriencing engine misfires and internal engine damage. Diagnostic inspection later revealed oil contamination and cylinder wall scoring requiring full engine replacement. Additionally, while driving on a public street, the serpentine belt suddenly came off the engine without warning. This created an immediate safety concern because the belt powers critical systems such as power steering and engine cooling. Losing these systems while driving could cause loss of vehicle control. At the time of the incident, my children were in the vehicle and there were pedestrians and other drivers on the road. The sudden mechanical failure created a dangerous situation that could have resulted in a crash or injury. No warning lights or messages appeared on the dashboard prior to the engine failure, and the check engine light never illuminated. Because the engine concern had previously been reported and dismissed as normal, the problem continued to worsen until catastrophic engine damage occurred. I am submitting this complaint because I am concerned that this may not be an isolated issue and that similar engine failures could pose a safety risk to other drivers.Read more

I am reporting a safety concern regarding BMW vehicles equipped with the B58 Technical Update (B58TU) engine, commonly found on models from 2019 to 2021. Here’s a more professional, structured version of your complaint while still clearly conveying the seriousness of the situation: ⸻ I am writing to formally express my concern regarding a 2020 Hyundai Palisade that I purchased from a dealership less than one year ago, along with an extended warranty. Since the time of purchase, the vehicle has experienced ongoing and significant oil consumpt
... ion issues. In fact, it has spent a substantial amount of time in the repair shop—arguably more time than it has been in my possession. Despite these repeated service visits, the problem has not been resolved. The vehicle is currently consuming more than 1.5 quarts of oil per 1,000 miles, which is well beyond what would be considered normal. I have completed an official oil consumption test to document this issue. Notably, these problems began prior to even the first oil change after purchase, indicating that the condition likely existed at the time of sale. Despite the documented issue, both Hyundai Motor Company and the extended warranty provider have denied coverage for repairs. As a result, I am left with a vehicle that has a serious mechanical defect and a high risk of engine failure. I invested approximately $29,000 in this vehicle, and I am now facing the prospect of catastrophic engine damage due to a known issue that has been widely reported with similar vehicles. This situation is extremely concerning and has left me feeling misled and unfairly treated. I am seeking a fair resolution to this matter, including appropriate repair, replacement, or compensation, given the circumstances and the documentation supporting this claim.Read more

I am reporting a recurring safety issue with the vehicle’s auto engine stop/start system. When the vehicle comes to a stop, the engine sometimes shuts off normally (other time only the auto-brakes engage, but engine stays on), but then the system behaves unpredictably. The engine attempts to restart with a violent jolt, causing the entire vehicle to shake. This occurs even when I am fully sto
... pped with my foot on the brake. It feels like the vehicle is trying to lurch forward or restart against resistance. The issue is repeatable, happens in normal driving conditions, and creates a safety concern because the sudden jolt can startle the driver, cause unintended movement, or lead to loss of control in traffic. I believe this may indicate a defect in the auto‑engine‑stop system, engine mounts, starter system, or related control modules. My 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport equipped with a Theta II GDI engine began exhibiting excessive oil consumption, engine knocking, and cylinder misfires consistent with the known Theta II engine defect covered under the Hyundai class action settlement. Prior to the failure, the check engine light illuminated and I experienced repeated misfires and audible engine knocking. The vehicle required frequen
... t oil additions between oil changes due to excessive consumption. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Hyundai dealership where a diagnosis confirmed a burnt valve inside the cylinder head. The dealership recommends replacement of the cylinder head or complete engine replacement to correct the issue. The dealership performed a bearing failure test and attributed the burnt valve to carbon buildup. However, excessive oil consumption in a GDI engine directly accelerates carbon buildup on intake valves, as burning oil deposits carbon on valve surfaces preventing proper seating and causing overheating and valve failure. The carbon buildup is therefore a consequential result of the Theta II oil consumption defect, not an independent cause. The safety risk is significant as engine misfires and knocking while driving create unpredictable loss of power and potential for stalling in traffic. The vehicle is currently not reliably operable. The manufacturer has been contacted regarding coverage under the Theta II settlement. The component is available for inspection upon request at the servicing dealershipRead more

2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe has had multiple safety recalls. My Jeep began losing all engine power while driving down the highway, causing it to jump forward and stall back. I then reached out to Stellantis to have the vehicle towed to the nearest dealership because the issues that arose were consistent with the 78C recall. I opened a claim with Stellantis as well to have an inspector look at the vehicle but before they were able to see the vehicle, the dealership "repaired" it and said it was just a malfunctioning piston, and I could come get the Jeep. I refused, because it was still a safety risk with no fix for the recall and did not feel safe putting my safety at risk or others safety on the road at risk. Stellantis sent me a letter a week later saying the vehicle showed no signs of fire or burning and is safe to operate now. Incident Date: 04/05/2026 Vehicle Speed: 65–70 MPH Location: [XXX] Component: Engine / Power Train / Fuel System Summary of Safety Defect: While traveling at highway speeds (65–70 MPH) with four passengers (including two children), the vehicle suffered a sudden, catastrophic engine failure without any prior warning or symptomatic noise. The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) began flashing r
... apidly, immediately followed by a total loss of motive power. Despite throttle input, the vehicle failed to maintain speed or accelerate, creating an immediate hazard in high-speed traffic. Hazardous Conditions encountered: Upon the loss of power, I observed white smoke trailing from the exhaust and a strong burning odor entering the cabin from the engine compartment. To avoid a high-speed rear-end collision, I was forced to perform an emergency maneuver across active lanes of traffic to reach the shoulder. Due to the immediate fear of a vehicle fire (indicated by the smoke and burning smell), my family was forced to evacuate the vehicle and wait outside in a remote location for six hours. Correlation to Known Defects: This incident appears to be a direct manifestation of the defect described in Nissan Recall ID R25E3/R25E4 / NHTSA ID 26V0801 regarding Engine Main Bearing Seizure. The failure resulted in a complete loss of propulsion and a potential fire risk due to fluid ignition or a breached engine block. Post-Incident Status: The vehicle was towed to Nissan of Cumming and is currently awaiting a formal inspection for internal metal debris. The failure of this critical component under highway conditions posed a life-threatening risk to my family and other motorists. At first I thought we accidentally pressed a wrong button or did something that caused the engine to stall, but upon research and talking to others with Hondas this appears to be a known issue. I am taking the car to the dealership on 4/10/26 to get looked at. There was no warning light or error messages prior to to happening. We bought the car new and it has only 10,000 miles on it.Read more

I am submitting this complaint to report a catastrophic engine failure in my 2019 Honda Pilot Elite that is consistent with the defect described in NHTSA Safety Recall 23V-751, and to request that my vehicle be included in the recall or that the scope of the recall be expanded. My vehicle, manufactured in July 2018, experienced a sudden onset of engine knocking accompanied by a flashing check eng
... ine light and a P0301 (cylinder 1 misfire) diagnostic code while driving at highway speeds. After safely returning home and attempting reasonable repairs, I brought the vehicle to a Honda dealership for inspection. The technician determined that: •The cylinder #1 connecting rod bearing had spun •There was extensive internal engine damage •Metal shavings were present in the oil pan •The engine required replacement of the short block assembly The total cost of repair was $9,784.94. This failure mode is identical to the defect described in Recall 23V-751, which attributes rod bearing failure to manufacturing issues with the crankshaft. Despite this, my VIN is not currently included in the recall. Key concerns: •My vehicle falls within the same production timeframe as affected vehicles •The failure mode is identical to the recalled defect •The failure occurred under normal driving conditions •The vehicle was properly maintained and not abused This raises serious concerns that the defect extends beyond the currently defined recall population.I respectfully request that NHTSA: 1.Investigate this incident as part of the ongoing review of Honda 3.5L V6 engine failures 2.Determine whether Recall 23V-751 should be expanded to include additional vehicles 3.Consider my vehicle for inclusion in the recall due to identical failure characteristics This issue represents a significant safety concern, as sudden engine failure at highway speeds could lead to loss of control or increased risk of collision.
