While driving down the interstate my 2021 Chevy Trailblazer suddenly flashed "Battery Saver Mode" on the dash and shut off completely. I was able to coast to the side of the road and call for help. This was a MAJOR safety issue as my 4 year old son was riding with me and we could've caused or gotten into a serious accident. There were no previous warnings and no Check Engine Light came on prior to

I had to get it towed to a local service center who stated my car has "catastrophic engine failure". They advised the issue could be either "timing chain or a dropped valve"--unable to confirm until they take the engine apart completely. They denied issues with the battery or starter and said the engine was completely blown. There was less than 120k miles on it and i kept up with maintenance.Read more

Last week just driving to school, my engine started to knock. So the next day we take it to a local mechanic shop and it exploded while they were test driving it and they diagnosed it with rod bearing failure. So I contact Hyundai and get it towed to the Hyundai dealership for them to inspect it and eventually do an engine swap, but after it got dropped off I was told it’d be $360 to get it diag

I explained to the rep that the class action lawsuit regarding the Theta 2 GDI engines extends the warranty to 15 years/150,000 miles for all subsequent owners especially since I’ve had the KSDS installed. They’re refusing to cover damages even though my car was affected by a manufacturing issue on their end and was part of major recall campaigns. While driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph with a heavily loaded vehicle, my 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.4L suddenly lost power and entered limp mode. The check engine light flashed and diagnostic code P1326 was stored. During limp mode the engine was banging hard, almost like it was seizing and then releasing repeatedly. This is consistent with connecting rod bearing failure, not wris
... t pin failure. P1326 is generated by Hyundai's Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS), specifically designed to detect abnormal vibration consistent with connecting rod bearing failure — a known defect covered under Hyundai's Theta II engine warranty extension. Prior to this event the engine had been consuming oil abnormally. Approximately 1,300 miles after my last oil change the oil level had already dropped to the low mark on the dipstick, a significant change from normal operation. The vehicle was towed to a Hyundai dealership where it remains today. The dealership confirmed cylinder scoring and wrist pin damage. Hyundai is attributing the failure solely to wrist pin failure to avoid Theta II warranty coverage. I believe the wrist pin damage is downstream damage caused by the underlying rod bearing defect. My safety was directly at risk at highway speed. The vehicle has approximately 140,000 miles and is within the 15 year/150,000 mile Theta II warranty extension. A Warranty Prior Approval has been submitted to Hyundai Motor America and has been unresolved since March 24, 2026.Read more

My 2017 Chrysler Pacifica experienced repeated engine timing and oil system failures. The vehicle first developed a check engine light and engine timing code (P000D – camshaft position slow response). The vehicle was inspected by a dealership service department. Shortly after, a major engine oil leak was discovered from the oil cooler / oil filter adapter assembly. The vehicle required repair o
... f the oil cooler assembly and associated seals. After that repair, the vehicle continued to experience engine timing issues. The dealership later confirmed failure of the cam phaser components associated with the engine timing system and performed a repair. Within days of the repair, the check engine light and engine timing code returned again. The failure involves the engine valve timing system and oil pressure dependent components based on Autozone code check. Improper camshaft timing can affect engine operation, cause loss of power, rough running, or possible engine stall while driving, which creates a safety risk in traffic. The issue has been inspected and confirmed by a dealership service department. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.Read more

Dealer took apart manifold, ran compression test, intake/exhaust valves leaking, engine block flatness - had to replace engine block. No precipitation of this issue other than engine light. A complete engine failure without an accident, at low mileage and a known issue without a recall on a specific engine is quite concerning. 1. The failed component is the engine. The dealer confirmed that coolant intrusion caused internal engine damage and that the engine requires full replacement. This is especially serious because Customer Satisfaction Program 19B37 had already been performed on the vehicle and was supposed to correct this exact coolant intrusion issue. The dealer even acknowledged that this repair should have preve
... nted the failure, yet the same problem still occurred less than 30,000 miles later. The vehicle has low mileage, has been properly maintained, and should be available for inspection upon request, depending on whether the dealer or repair facility retains the parts. 2. This created a major safety risk. My teenager was driving the vehicle when the engine died, which put them in immediate danger. A sudden engine failure can cause loss of power, rough running, misfiring, or stalling in traffic, at intersections, or at highway speeds, leaving the driver unable to accelerate or move out of the way of other vehicles. This was not just an inconvenience; it created a very serious risk of a crash and potential injury to my child, passengers, and others on the road. 3. Yes. The problem was confirmed by the dealership service department. They diagnosed the failure as the 19B37 coolant intrusion issue and stated that the engine needs to be replaced. They also acknowledged that the prior CSP repair should have fixed this problem. 4. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership/service center. Ford has also been contacted regarding the issue. My 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T (Theta II 2.0L GDI Turbo engine) has been diagnosed with burned exhaust valves requiring a complete engine replacement. This is the second catastrophic powertrain failure on this vehicle in under two years. In July 2024, I paid $2,754 to replace the turbocharger at an authorized Hyundai dealership (Wright Hyundai, [XXX] ). The burned valves are consistent with c
... arbon buildup on intake valves, a widely documented and known deficiency of the GDI fuel delivery system used in the Theta II engine family. Carbon deposits restrict airflow, cause valve seating issues, and lead to valve failure. This is an inherent design characteristic of the engine, not a maintenance-related failure. At no point during my ownership — including during the turbocharger repair — was I informed of this known issue or advised of any preventive measures such as fuel system cleaning treatments. I am additionally concerned that the dealership's diagnostic process was incomplete. The service center diagnosed the burned valves and immediately recommended an engine replacement without performing a bearing clearance test or completing the full diagnostic flowchart. The dealership has refused to perform further diagnostics unless I pay additional fees, and has refused to share documentation from a tech line case opened with Hyundai corporate. Because diagnostics were halted at the burned valve finding, a connecting rod bearing failure — the specific defect covered under the Theta II class action settlement (In re: Hyundai and Kia Engine Litigation, NoXXX) — has not been ruled out as a contributing cause. Hyundai's National Consumer Affairs office (Case #XXX) denied my goodwill request without addressing either the known GDI carbon buildup issue or the fact that this is the second catastrophic failure on this engine platform. Dealer recommended full engine replacement ($8,500). Vehicle has been inoperable at the dealer since Feb 19, 2026. SAFETY CONCERN: At 4 PSI with metal debris in the oil system, this engine was at imminent risk of catastrophic seizure. I avoided highway driving after the warning appeared (max 50 mph, city streets only). Had the engine seized at highway speed, loss of power steering and brake vacuum assist would have created serious crash risk. The symptom profile — warning only at idle, clearing at speed, no knocking, no check engine light — is the pattern that puts less-vigilant drivers at risk of seizure at highway speed with no warning. KNOWN DEFECT: The 2.4L G4KJ Theta II GDI is identical to the engine subject to a $210M NHTSA civil penalty (2020), multiple recalls, and a ~$1.3B class action settlement extending lifetime warranties through MY 2019. The 2020 uses the same engine but was excluded. My failure mode is textbook Theta II. Hyundai Service Campaign 9C2 (ECU update for 2019-2020 Theta II, issued Nov 2025) was incomplete on this vehicle — I was never notified. Completed after the engine had already failed. Manufacturer denied coverage (Case #XXX). BBB AUTO LINE claim #XXX filed Apr 16, 2026. No crash. No injuries. No fire. While braking at low speed approaching a stoplight, the vehicle did not slow as expected when I removed my foot from the accelerator. As I applied increasing brake pressure, the engine revved and the vehicle continued to move forward into the intersection. The brakes appeared to be working but had to counter engine power, and the tires briefly chirped. I shifted into neutral to stop the vehicle an
... d then backed out of the intersection. If another vehicle had been stopped in front of me, a collision would likely have occurred. The vehicle was in Fuel and Oil Refresh Mode (FORM) with Max Regenerative Braking enabled at the time of the incident. There were no warning lights or messages. I provided dashcam video to the dealer. The dealer was unable to duplicate the condition but reported that stored vehicle data showed ABS activation during the incident. The dealer has documented the event as a safety concern and reported it to the manufacturer. This appears to involve unintended forward movement or application of engine power while braking, creating a significant safety risk.Read more

I don't know who could help resolve the issue we have. Our 2019 Ford Eco-sport had several recalls. The last recall Holman/Ford kept our car for 9 months but kind enough to lend us a car to use while they waited for a part. We had to cancel our vacation trip to Turner Maine to see our daughter's family because we were not permitted to drive the loaner out of state! Later they decided that they h
... ad to give us a new engine and gave us the car back in November of 2024. After receiving our car back we noticed a gas smell each time we put the heater on. It was strong to the point of opening our windows for ventilation. My husband called several times leaving a message and no one called back. We left more messages saying why is the check engine light on all the time when it is a brand new engine? Finally they informed us that we need to pay for a diagnostic test that was well over $100 and we brought it to their attention that it has not been right since we got the car back so why should we have to pay for a dianostic test? We went to pepboys to get the diagnostic test that was cheaper and they informed us that Ford should have removed and replaced the canister purge solenoid when putting in a new engine. Without doing that, it could ruin the engine again as well as the canister purge solenoid. We did research to learn they should have replaced the canister purge solenoid as well. My husband called and left several messages and no one would return his call. Once again he called them today and a "Jim" called back from Holman Ford, Maple Shade [XXX] saying that the recall was on a new engine and they did not have to replace the canister purge solenoid. He told my husband it would be cheaper to go to PepBoys to replace the canister purge solenoid. Is this true that they did not have to replace the canister solenoid? We had several recalls on our 2019 Eco Sport. Isn't it considered under a lemon law? How do we get them to fix it properly with no charge? Component or system that failed or malfunctioned The issue involves a safety recall‑related system on my Ram truck that remains open with no available remedy for over one year. The vehicle is now experiencing traction loss while pulling and during normal driving, along with multiple failure/warning lights activating on the dashboard. How my safety or the safety of others was put at risk While d
... riving and when pulling/accelerating, the vehicle unexpectedly loses traction, which creates a risk of loss of control, especially during traffic, turns, or acceleration from a stop. The appearance of failure lights combined with traction loss presents a serious safety risk to myself, my passengers, and other motorists, increasing the likelihood of a crash. Whether the problem has been reproduced or confirmed The safety defect is confirmed by the open NHTSA recall associated with my VIN. The traction loss and failure lights have occurred during normal vehicle operation and continue to reappear. The issue has not been repaired due to the manufacturer stating that no recall remedy is currently available. Inspections by dealer, manufacturer, or others Authorized Ram/Dodge dealers have confirmed that the recall remains open with no repair solution available from the manufacturer. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by police or insurance representatives, but it remains available for inspection. Warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms Failure and warning indicator lights have appeared on the dashboard and remain present. These symptoms began while the recall was still unresolved and now occur in conjunction with traction loss during driving and pulling, indicating the defect may be actively affecting vehicle safety.Read more
