On February 27, 2026, my 2020 Hyundai Kona (Recall 203) suffered a catastrophic engine stall while driving, requiring an emergency tow. I am writing about my concerns on a 2016 Hyundai Sonata SE that I purchased for my daughter in October 2023. After purchasing I took it to my local Hyundai dealer to have it checked out. It was one of the cars that came with a lifetime warranty for the rods DO TO A DEFECT.On January 2024 my daughter was driving on the freeway when all of a sudden it just stopped accelerating and when checked it wa
... s a Knock sensor detection system. The dealer took it in and inspected and said it was a defective sensor and replaced it.This made me uncomfortable as I felt the sensor did its job and it was just a matter of time before the rod blew through.During the next few months it became very apparent that the car was going through unbelievable amounts of oil.It had a ticking so we replaced all the spark plugs and noticed oil saturating the plugs and realized a leak in the valve cover gasket which was also replaced. We thought this might be the cause but no oil was on the ground and nowhere on the engine.I just thought it was burning oil but no indicator lights were going off. The car could have no oil and it would not let us know. She's lucky to drive 300 miles a month. She has complained of a strong gas oder and we replaced 2 gas caps and went back to the Hyundai dealer. They told us there's a problem with the fuel filter and pump.If we pay $273 of inspections it might cover it if it's a failing part, and when I did the oil change the car was very low on oil despite the fact that we check it monthly and put 3 quarts of oil in the car.Her car is consuming 3-4 quarts of oil per every 250 miles. This could cause her engine to fail and possibly throw a rod which given the fact she has already taken out one Knock sensor it is just waiting to happen. So as oil disappears every few hundred miles without a warning the engine locks up and if a rod punches through onto the exhaust this can cause it to stall and potentially catch on fire especially when it wreaks of gas from the fuel filter.Read more

While driving this car on April 4, 2026 at around 6PM, I experienced the distinct smell of gasoline. I had driven for about 5 minutes on our way to a local restaurant that is approximately an 8 minute drive from our residence. My wife said that she had just filled the gas tank that afternoon. After we arrived home, I check the vehicle exterior for leaks and found no liquids under the car. The following day, April 5, 2026 at approximately 1115 AM, having once again found no liquids or gasoline under my car, I drove the car to my local repair shop; an 8 minute drive. About 5 minutes into the drive, I smelled gasoline again. I parked the car at the repair shop, but while adjusting the parking to fit better between the painted lines, I saw and heard a large puff of smoke from the hood area. I immediately put the car into Park, shut off the engine and ran from the car. After exiting, I saw that the car ignited with visible fire under the engine compartment. Both faults appeared immediately following the OTA update. Remote start failure at two consecutive locations and the Check Engine Light activation are directly correlated in timing with the update applied on 04/16/2026. We have been without our 2020 JEEP since the end of February 2026 due to an engine issue (had the car only 6-7 months). The first company thought there might be coolant in the head gasket causing the issue. After our extended warranty company wanted the engine opened to confirm, we had to send the car to Precision Tune at the end of March to do this (prior place didn't open engines or repair them
... and recommended Precision Tune). Based on the engine codes of P0301 and P1061, as well how the car started, Precision Tune knew that the multi air actuator had failed. We both kept asking the extended warranty company how opening the engine would tell them that the multi air actuator failed (Precision Tune and JEEP dealer both said it would not show them that). 5 days later the extended warranty company said that the part was not covered. By that time the multi air actuator was on backorder. On April 10, I called up JEEP to ask about the part and when it might be back in stock. I was told that JEEP is doing an engineering review on the part because of the various issues and until that is resolved there is no timetable on when the part will be available leaving customers without a vehicle. This may not seem like something the NHTSA cares about but there is defiantly an issue. In fact, there was a case investigated by the NHTSA about this issue that was closed in 2023. It seems like the issue was never resolved by JEEP and is continuing to the point that the part has to go back through engineering.Read more

This is a report of a recurring, life-safety defect involving unintended vehicle movement in a 2024 Ford Expedition. The vehicle has experienced two separate incidents where it was placed in 'Park,' remained stationary for 13-30 seconds, and then began driving itself backward without driver intervention or throttle input. Incident 1: Occurred on March 29, 2026 and I have this one on video. Incid
... ent 2: Occurred on April 8, 2026. The video clearly shows the vehicle remaining stationary and in 'Park' for 13 seconds before the unintended movement begins. This delay proves the movement is not a 'start-up rocking' sensation or 'normal clutch drag,' but a delayed mechanical or electronic failure of the park actuator or transmission system. I presented the vehicle for service at a Ford dealership on April 17, 2026. Despite my report of a delayed-onset rollaway, the dealership documented the issue as a 'normal and desired characteristic' of the 10-speed transmission. They characterized the event as a minor 'rocking' sensation that occurs immediately, which is factually contradicted by my video evidence showing a 13-second delay. This leaves me with an unsafe vehicle prone to unintended movement. I am requesting a formal investigation into a potential park-engagement failure.Read more

The dealer confirmed fault codes P0303 (Cylinder 3 Misfire), P0306 (Cylinder 6 Misfire), and P0300 (Random/Multiple Misfire) on both visits. On the first visit the dealer called the codes normal and returned the vehicle unrepaired. The second visit lasted 44 days. The dealer could not reproduce the fault during the entire 44-day period. A Hyundai Field Service Engineer physically visited the dealership and applied a special software update to the Engine Control Module. The closed repair order documents this as "UPDATE SPECIAL SOFTWARE INTO ENGINE CONTROL UNIT" with no TSB number, no software version before or after, and no GDS event number. The dealer confirmed they have no access to this update and cannot verify what was changed. No Proof of Correction was issued for California emissions compliance. The two recalls performed on the same repair order both have proper TSB numbers and STUI documentation. The ECM update has none. Known Recall Issue: The failure pattern aligns with known manufacturer defect categories involving: •Engine torque / internal engine failure conditions •Cooling system failure leading to overheating Shortly after I purchased my 2015 Range Rover, I started to have repeated and escalating safety-critical failures involving sudden loss of power, engine malfunction, and vehicle shutdown while dri
... ving at highway speeds. The vehicle has experienced multiple incidents of complete or partial power loss while in motion, resulting in near-collision events. Despite repeated repairs by authorized dealerships, the underlying defect has not been resolved. The failure pattern suggests a systemic mechanical defect involving engine performance and cooling system integrity rather than isolated maintenance issues. The primary safety concern is sudden loss of propulsion while driving at highway speeds, which has occurred on more than one occasion. These incidents present a significant risk of: •Rear-end collisions •Loss of vehicle control •Serious injury or fatality TECHNICAL FAILURE PATTERN Observed progression of failure: •Oil leakage / burning smell •Internal engine degradation symptoms •Cooling system failure and overheating •Electrical instability •Final engine shutdown / seizure events This suggests a systemic mechanical defect affecting engine integrity and thermal management systems. REQUEST FOR INVESTIGATION I respectfully request NHTSA to: 1.Investigate potential safety defects in this vehicle and model year 2.Evaluate whether similar failures are occurring in other vehicles 3.Assess adequacy of existing recall coverage 4.Review risk associated with sudden engine shutdown while driving 5.Determine whether recall expansion or additional safety action is warrantedRead more

While driving into work, I noticed a knocking sound from the outside of the vehicle. Once parked, upon further inspection I narrowed down the area of the noise to the bottom rear of the engine/front of transmission. Fortunately, I was able to park in front of my office building and wasn’t stranded on the side of the road but under different circumstances it could've been the side of a busy highw
... ay or hours from home. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership I originally purchased from, the dealership was able to duplicate the issue with me present. Later that afternoon I was informed that the engine had failed and a replacement would be ordered. There was no prior indication of a problem or warning/CEL’s. The engine failed after the dealership had completed the engine recall ( pico test and 0-40W oil change ) related to the vehicle. I am reporting this in hopes that it helps with the investigation. This has been very disappointing for me as I have supported the brand of vehicle for many years. Only to have many issues under 80,000 miles and to lose confidence in the vehicle I purchased and the company.Read more

My vehicle started overheating out of no where towed it to the shop, it’s been there for 2 weeks they’re actively waiting for a manufacturer engineer to tell them what to do because they can’t figure out how to fix it. On top of that there have been a lot of overheating issues cause by different parts on the vehicle. There was another trailblazer in the at the same time as mine that was also
... overheating! A 2025 vehicle should not be having issues at this point gmc should just take all the trailblazers off the market! Also they need to change their manufacturing warranty on rentals because not one person should not have to pay out of pocket for a rental when it’s the manufacturers fault!Read more

My 2017 Ford Explorer suddenly started vibrating intensely whenever I am at a stop or start slowing down. Episodes of hesitation when attempting to take off from a start with significant rpm surges. I am told I need to have my torque converter replaced. My vehicle has 84,697 miles on it, and was bought brand new from a dealer. I already had to have a new engine a month ago. This level of multiple
