Experienced catastrophic engine failure with no known cause. The car had been inspected and had an oil change 3,000 miles prior to the incident. Thankfully, I had already exited the thruway and was on a quiet backroad but if this had happened 15 minutes earlier on the thruway this could have been a much different story.

My 2021 Honda Passport Elite suffered cataphoric engine failure at 90,000 miles. The 6th cylinder bearing was missing when my vehicle was towed into Honda for diagnosis after my engine shut off while I was traveling 55 mph. My 2020 Subaru Crosstrek experienced a sudden loss of motive power and stalled due to a blown ignition fuse. Diagnostic code P1604 (Startability Malfunction) was stored. Inspection by Wayne Subaru (Invoice #25340) confirmed the Cylinder 3 ignition coil had shorted and physically melted. This is the exact failure mode described in Subaru Safety Recall WRE-21 (NHTSA Campaign 21V825000), which curren

This vehicle has ongoing drivability issues that have not been resolved despite multiple repair attempts involving engine-related components and repairs. The issue began in November 2024 while the vehicle was under warranty with coolant and engine warnings. At that time, I reported coolant loss, warning messages, hesitation during acceleration, and abnormal vehicle vibration. I was initially told
... no issue existed. Shortly after warranty expiration, the vehicle required a major head gasket repair in 2025 after continuing to exhibit the same coolant-related issues. In 2026, the vehicle required an additional engine-related repair involving a camshaft seal in the same area of the engine that had previously been dismantled and rebuilt. Despite these repairs, the same drivability symptoms remain. The vehicle intermittently hesitates during acceleration, particularly from a stop or during merging conditions, where engine RPM increases significantly before the vehicle responds. The vehicle also exhibits significant steering wheel and seat vibration at highway speeds and during extended driving. These conditions create a potential safety concern because the vehicle does not consistently respond as expected during acceleration and becomes unstable and uncomfortable to operate at highway speeds. The hesitation creates concern when entering traffic, crossing intersections, or attempting to accelerate in situations requiring predictable vehicle response. The issue has been repeatedly presented to the dealership and repair attempts have been performed, including major engine work, but the condition remains unresolved. The repairs were treated as separate isolated issues rather than a continuation of the original condition first reported under warranty. The vehicle has been out of service for approximately 43 days across these repairs. No loaner vehicle was provided during those periods. The vehicle remains in its current condition with unresolved issues.Read more

The engine catastrophically failed on an 45 mph road. There was no warning leading up to this incident at any time previously. The engine lost all power and the car shut off on this road. In essence the oil i
... s not low enough to trigger the light but it is also escaping somewhere. The mechanic said it seemed like the engine had a fault in it. Because of the open recall on the piston rings, we had it towed to the dealership who then claimed this problem has nothing to do with the faulty piston rings. Instead they said there is a rod knock. On 4/27/26, my family and I were traveling south on Colorado C470 at 8 AM. Our 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 had catastrophic engine failure at highway speed as we were passing an 18 wheeler. The failure caused the vehicle to lose power and engine, and the display said to put the truck in Neutral and restart the engine. After coasting to the shoulder, the engine would not restart. We were stranded on
... the highway during rush hour for an hour and 1/2 waiting for a tow truck. This scenario is identical to the safety risks outlined in NHTSA Recall 25V274 (and investigation PE 24-007). This failure resulted in the intake manifold being physically displaced and damage to the timing assembly. The dealership is attempting to deny coverage by claiming the "upper gallery" damage (timing/intake) is unrelated to the "lower end" issues covered under the special coverage/recall [ this is a Dealer Quote]. This logic is technically flawed: Consequential Damage: A catastrophic lower-end failure (e.g., a broken connecting rod or seized crankshaft bearing) at 80 mph creates the massive internal pressure required to shatter or "blow off" a plastic intake manifold. Timing Linkage: The timing chain is physically connected to the crankshaft. It is mechanically impossible to have a catastrophic crankshaft failure at high RPMs without causing secondary damage to the timing gears and "upper gallery". Recall Precedence: My vehicle exhibits the exact failure mode—loss of motive power due to bearing failure—currently being investigated by the NHTSA for 2019-2024 L87 engines.Read more

... r a few days, then experienced shaking and heard vibrations when breaking and idling. Within a few minutes, MIL appeared with audible warning, "Take this vehicle to a Kia dealership." Immediately parked car. Towed to Kia dealership. No record of DTC P1326 found, which would have qualified vehicle for new engine under PI1802 Y/Z Theta II Extended Warranty. Diagnostic found misfiring cylinder and fouled spark plug. Technician in the video stated "oil consumption." Due to absence of P1326 code, service manager suggests we replace fouled plug and return with the vehicle when the same issue happens again. This does not follow Kia's own guidelines in PI1802 Y/Z campaign for a couple of reasons. First, activation of the MIL in conjunction with the audio warning indicates the Knock Sensor P1326 code should have been generated and stored, but the warning system must have malfunctioned. Service dept. did not to inspect the knock sensor harness for damage or oil saturation which could have kept the code from registering. Second, Service dept. did not consider shaking and vibration as "engine noise," which would have required them to perform a BCT or test for connecting rod bearing noise, providing a pathway to request Techline PWA approve replacing the engine under warranty. Kia's Product Improvement Campaign for Theta II engines ought to prevent injury or death resulting from catastrophic engine failure. My vehicle presents clear evidence of engine failure progression at different stages. Rather than navigate the warranty via a Techline, Kia has advised me to continue driving.Read more

I own a 2015 Ford Fusion SE. I bought it used when it only had 47,000 miles on it. I have found the problem to be Coolant Intrusion – Engine Defect Concern “Coolant intrusion” is a known engine design defect in which coolant leaks into the cylinders, leading to internal damage, misfires, and eventual engine failure. After researching it I found that many other people have had the very same issue with no help from Ford. This should be a recall as this is an internal issue with the short block and something that should have been disclosed before purchasing this model/engine. The only repair that will fix the core of the issue is replacing the entire short block which costs thousands of dollars, way more than the cost of the entire vehicle at this point. Without fixing the issue, the engine will fail. Again, this should be something Ford should pay to repair, not any customer who came into this blind.Read more

Stellantis has been giving me the run around and throwing every excuse in the book why they won’t do it. The most recent excuse is they say the website provided is not a legitimate webpage so they aren’t going to follow the NHTSA guidelines it sets forth. Per the 2023 update to the class action ruling my truck is supposed to be covered, and after looking online there are hundreds of others facing the same problems. There is even a petition with 250 signatures online about this issue. Short of filing a class action I’m not sure what else to do. According to everything I’m reading per the NHTSA I’m in the right, but FCA/Stellantis is denying responsibility. This all feels reminiscent of the $105 million 2015 ruling against FCA for not honoring recalls. Despite proper maintenance, the vehicle is burning oil at an excessive rate. I have already replaced the oil pan, but the issue persists. I now have to add oil frequently between oil changes. This creates a serious safety concern, as low oil levels can cause engine failure while driving, leading to sudden loss of power or stalling in traffic. This puts me, my passengers, and other drivers at risk.
... There are no visible leaks, which suggests the oil is being burned internally. This appears to be a potential defect rather than normal wear and tear. I am requesting that this issue be investigated as it may affect other vehicles of the same make and model. This is becoming very expensive having to refill oil as the dipstick shows nothing. This has been confirmed by technicians that there has been no oil in my car despite coming in on time or before the recommended miles. The oil light will come on a few weeks after having the oil changed. It seems this is an issue with this engine type.Read more

MB knows this is an issue with the wiring in the solenoid. I'm not sure if there is a fire risk because of the frayed wires.
Incident date: Feb 2, 2026
Description of Incident: The vehicle is experiencing significant engine oil dilution by gasoline. Upon inspection of the dipstick, the oil level is consistently found to be well above the "Full" mark, and the oil emits a strong, pungent odor of raw fuel. This indicates that unburnt gasoline is bypassing the piston rings and entering the crankcase during normal operation, particularly in colder tem
... peratures or during hybrid engine cycling. Safety Risk: The dilution of engine oil with fuel significantly reduces the oil's viscosity and lubricating properties. This creates a high risk of premature engine wear, rod bearing failure, and sudden engine seizure or stalling while the vehicle is in motion. A sudden loss of motive power at highway speeds poses a severe crash hazard to myself and other motorists. Attempts to Correct: I have noted that similar Hyundai models using the 1.6L platform (such as the Tucson Hybrid via TSB 23-EE-002H) have received software updates to address this specific issue. However, when contacting the dealer regarding my Elantra Hybrid, I was informed that no such software fix or service campaign currently exists for the CN7 Elantra model, leaving the safety defect unaddressed. Expected Resolution: Hyundai should be required to issue a recall or technical service bulletin for the Elantra Hybrid to update the Engine Control Unit (ECU) logic, ensuring the engine reaches and maintains temperatures necessary to prevent fuel accumulation in the oil.Read more

My 2014 Ford F150 truck went into “limp mode” last week. A wrench showed up on my dashboard, my speedometer didn’t function, and it sounded like the transmission was “winding up” if I tried to accelerate. After hitting “ok” to remove the wrench and restarting the truck a couple of times, my check engine light illuminated. I was driving at about 40 MPH when this occurred and it was a
... scary moment. Luckily I was able to keep my truck under control and drove very slowly back home considering I was less than 4 miles from my home. The truck went into a Ford dealership in 2024 for the “transmission recall” in which the only thing I noticed different was that I couldn’t see the digital shifting of the transmission on the screen anymore and they “killed” my battery. I still had issues every so often with power loss or the transmission shifting down abruptly, but it wouldn’t throw a code. Last week it threw a code. P0720 to be exact, the reason for the transmission recall in the first place. There was no fix done with the recall and it made it so that I had to watch my RPM’s to track my transmission shifting. This is extremely concerning especially since I was having the issues prior to a computer reprogram and it wasn’t addressed. I have also seen that there’s yet another Ford transmission recall that could affect my truck considering it was assembled in June 2014 and fits the transmission 6R80 that needs fixed. Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2014 Hyundai Sonata Mileage: less than 120,000 miles Ownership: Second owner Complaint: I am filing a complaint regarding a serious engine failure in my 2014 Hyundai Sonata. My vehicle experienced issues beginning with a faulty knock sensor, which escalated into complete engine failure. This issue appears to be identical to problems that have already been i
... dentified in recalls involving similar Hyundai Sonata models. Despite experiencing the same symptoms and failure pattern, my specific VIN is not included in the recall. My vehicle has been well maintained, has under 120,000 miles, and should not have experienced a total engine failure under normal conditions. Based on the known recall issues related to engine defects and knock sensor failures, I believe my vehicle is affected by the same underlying defect. I am concerned that vehicles like mine are being excluded from the recall despite having identical safety-related issues. Engine failure while driving presents a serious safety risk, including potential loss of power, stalling, or inability to accelerate in traffic. I have had the car looked by a professional and advised of the engine failure and this is a common issue with this make and model.Read more

Started car and check engine light was on. Started to drive it and the battery and other lights came on. Engine sounded funny and electric motor was not available. As I was trying I needed to pull off because it was not moving smoothly and was jerky. I pulled over into a parking lot and put in park and the lights indicated it was in charging mode. After repeated attempts to turn the vehicle comple
... tely off I was able to. When I was able to finally turn it back on it the engine was very loud. While driving the car would accelerate when I did not have my foot on the brake and was getting warm inside the cabin. At random times the battery light and a red turtle would appear saying the speed was being limited. This happened repeatedly. The following day on the way to try to bring it to the dealership to fix it the speed was increasing while on flat ground unless I had foot on break and then the red turtle would come back on. I determined it was unsafe to drive and requested a tow to the dealership.Read more

GM 6.2L L87 was recalled. I took the truck in at 32,000 miles. GM dealer perfromed a Pico Test, motor failed. Motor replaced with "NEW" crate motor. I was without a truck or loaner for 3 weeks. Dealer called me when new motor was almost complete. First they said it would be a couple more days because they started the "NEW" motor and it had no oil pressure. They contacted GM Tec and they tested it
... again, it tested with too-high of oil pressure. GM then instructed them to replace the oil pump on the "NEW" Motor. I got the truck back a week later after being in the shop 3 weeks. I drove a total of 1,200 miles, 400 miles we're highway in one long trip. The balance was local. I went to start the truck one morning after it sat all weekend and the "NEW" motor was knocking like an old diesel. I video'ed it and sent to my service advisior, I was advised to bring it back again. Vehicle has been at dealer now 9 days, dealer took oil sample from "NEW" motor, it was found to have metallic matter in the oil. They contacted GM Tec again, it took GM Tec 3 days to respond, Last Friday GM Tec said pull the oil pan and take pictures. As of the typing of this email I have no loaner because there's a wait list for loaners, GM will only reimburse me $25/day for a rental and a truck rental is $105/day which I refuse to pay for GM's defects out of my pocket.Read more

The contact owns a 2019 Land Rover Discovery. The vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced and there were failures with the gearbox and other computer systems. The vehicle was repaired. The next morning, the shifter failure and start failure occurred again. The next day, the instrument panel began to illuminate the messages, "Proceed With Caution" and "Gearbox Fault Detected." The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) would black out, restart, and black out again. The failure would occur while idle, at which time they would have to place the vehicle in park, shut off, then restart it. The vehicle returned to their home and parked. The contact completed some research and found their experienced failure related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V248000 (Electrical System); however, their VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the issue. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.Read more
