While driving, my Check Engine light cam on suddenly, along with my entire dashboard lighting up with all kinds of warning lights. At that moment, the engine ran very rough while attempting to push the accelerator pedal to maneuver out of traffic, feeling like there was no power. With that, I also noticed the temperature gauge start to increase towards the hot limit, though there was no venting of
... steam from the radiator. I stopped my car on the side, turned the car off, and waited u til it cooled down before attempting to start it again. When restart after a period of time, I noticed what smelled like coolant coming from the exhaust. I have not been able to bring the vehicle to a mechanic to diagnose the issue just yet.Read more

This 2017 ford escape titanium with ecoboost engine suffers from coolant intrusion into the engine. The known design flaw allows coolant into the hot engine which causes cracked heads and eventually a cracked engine case. It also blows oil into the turbo and intake system that leads to engine fires. Our current recommendation from mechanics is to replace the engine, the turbocharger assembly
... and the valve cover with decontamination of the intake system. This is a known engine design flaw and ford does not recall or fix so we are out the entire value of the car. Our car currently has ~60k miles on it. So is rendered inoperative at very low mileage and has a high risk of engine fire.Read more

My 2013 Hyundai Tucson with 89,417 miles experienced complete engine failure due to severe rod knock from connecting rod bearing wear. This vehicle was brought to our local Hyundai dealership with confirmed diagnosis. This is a well-documented manufacturing defect in the 2.4L Theta II engine. This vehicle was bought 10/28/205 with 29,494 miles. The vehicle was properly maintained with regular o

Hyundai denied warranty coverage under the TXXM extended program citing incomplete Campaign 966 (KSDS software update) and improper maintenance. However, I never received any recall notices or campaign notifications. When inquiring about notices, Hyundai cited an address that I have not lived at for over 10 years. This sudden engine failure has left me without a vehicle with Hyundai refusing to address this known problem with their engines. I had pulled the vehicle into my garage. When I tried to shut the car off the car it would not shut off. In fact many components of the car seem to be completely out of sync. The car would not go into any gear. I could not shut the car off. No matter what I did the car just kept running. I finally more or less gave up and just let it keep running for a couple of hours. When I went back into the ga
... rage to check what was happening the car had finally stopped running. At that point I had call a towing service and arranged to have the vehicle taken to Autonation Jeep Chrysler the next morning where I had purchased the vehicle. This was a newly purchased vehicle and only had a total of 78 miles on it. Surprisingly the next morning I went into the garage to check on what was happening with the vehicle and to my surprise the vehicle had stopped running. I then disconnected The 12 Volt battery and left it disconnected for an hour or two. After this time I reconnected the battery. I again attempted to start the vehicle and surprisingly the vehicle started up and all functions in the car seem to be performing normally. At this point I drove the car about a mile to the Autonation Jeep Chrysler dealership and had conversation with service technician. Surprisingly he told me that Jeep has had this problem with other vehicles and the solution is to disconnect the 12 Volt battery for 20 or 30 minutes and then reconnect the battery. At that point the car seems to reset itself and it will run normally. End This car of mine only had 78 miles on it This is totally unacceptable. Furthermore this seems to be a problem with other Jeep vehicles. It is my opinion that Jeep Needs to correct this problem so I will not be stuck with a car that's running in my garage and I can't shut it off. All in all it seems to me this is a software problem that needs to be reworked and corrected.Read more

Model: Sierra Denali Ultimate Engine: 6.2L V8 VIN: [XXX] Mileage at Most Recent Incident: Approximately 52,000 miles Safety Complaint Summary I am submitting this complaint to report a recurring loss-of-propulsion and engine power event involving my 2023 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine. This vehicle has experienced two separate incidents in which it suddenly lost power
... while being operated at highway speeds. During both events, the vehicle unexpectedly lost propulsion without warning and without any apparent driver input or mechanical indication beforehand. No warning lights, check-engine lights, reduced-engine-power messages, service transmission messages, or other warning indicators were displayed prior to the failure. The vehicle simply lost power while traveling in traffic. During both occurrences, I was forced to safely maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder of the roadway while rapidly losing speed among surrounding traffic. Once stopped, the vehicle would not resume normal operation until it was restarted. After restarting, the vehicle appeared to operate normally; however, the fact that this condition has now occurred twice raises significant concerns regarding the reliability and safety of the vehicle. Safety Risk This condition presents a significant and immediate safety risk because sudden loss of propulsion during highway operation can leave the driver unable to maintain speed, safely merge, maneuver, or avoid surrounding traffic. The unexpected reduction in speed creates the potential for rear-end collisions, loss of vehicle control, or other traffic accidents, particularly when operating on high-speed roadways. Because the vehicle provided no warning before losing power, there is little opportunity for a driver to take preventive action. I am writing regarding my BMW X5 xDrive40i, model year 2019, engine code B58TU. The vehicle has been serviced at authorized BMW dealerships. For this engine type B58TU especially years 2018-2021, repeated oil pump failures have been reported due to a known design issue: an internal plastic component can develop cracks, potentially leading to a complete oil pump failure. BMW silently replaced the
... oil pump with the updated version by keeping the same part number but featuring metal internals. Once there is a fail on the oil pumps with plastic components, engine loses access to get the oil an immediate stop is needed. This creates a huge safety concern cause: 1) If you are on a highway at highway speeds it might not be possible to move to the shoulder safely with no engine power or even worse: with a locked engine. 2) If there is a maintenance on the road with no shoulder access or if this is a bridge where there is no shoulder, it creates a huge risk to safely move the vehicle. An unavoidable sudden stop can create a huge accident risk for everybody. Of course any car can get a engine problem on those occasions but this is a very known and very common problem for BMW cars equipped with B58TU engine especially years 2018-2021. BMW is also definitely aware of that and this safety concern cause they updated the design silently. But, when contacted with BMW NA, they refused to help, refused to admit there is a design problem. They also refused to change the oil pump with the updated oil pump even with my proposal of goodwill pricing.Read more

While driving at a speed just under 45 mph, my Mazda CX-70 suddenly displayed and chimed “Hybrid System Malfunction. Have Vehicle Inspected.“. This warning startled me because I am familiar with issues since I had briefly owned a CX-90 PHEV the first year this model came out and it had the same exact problem. I discovered that this issue carries serious safety concerns and ended up convincing
... the dealer to swap the vehicle for a CX-90 inline 6 gas only model after hours of pleading. I ended up signing up for another lease a couple of years later with this current CX-70 PHEV, as I was told that the “bugs” have pretty much been worked out so I would give it another try. This warning continued to stay on as I drove for a few minutes so I immediately took the car straight to the Mazda dealership service department where it was kept 24 hours. The dealer said that the issue resolved itself - something to do with not driving the vehicle interchangeably enough between gas and EV mode. The photo was taken once I slowed down to stop at an intersection since it took me 15 minutes to drive to the dealer.Read more

2019 Ford Escape with a documented history of powertrain failures. White smoke on cold start and engine stalling began around 48,000 miles; the dealer noted this engine is known for coolant intrusion. ... ting into reverse and must be restarted. At about 87,000 miles the transmission failed and the full transmission assembly was replaced (work order Jan 2026, vehicle returned end of March 2026). The owner repeatedly told the Ford dealer the vehicle felt unsafe. On [XXX] the owner reported renewed exhaust smoke, an illuminated engine light, and a clicking sound at startup and asked to bring it in; instead of inspecting it, the dealer advised taking the vehicle straight to CarMax. About 9 days later, on [XXX], while driving in Los Angeles about 60 miles from home with young children aboard, the transmission would not stay in gear and the engine warning lights began blinking. The owner called the Ford dealership for guidance but no one could advise and the service desk would not answer. After consulting a mechanic, the family agreed it was unsafe to keep driving given the noises and pulled over in Anaheim, about 30 miles from home, at a mechanic shop to read the codes. A paid tow (~$600) was required. Loss of gear engagement and stalling in traffic with children aboard is a serious crash and stranding hazard. The scan returned codes P0012 and P0014 (camshaft timing, stored as permanent), P0300 (random/multiple misfire), and P0301, P0302, P0304 (cylinder misfires); the dash showed "Auto Start/Stop not ready - Stall Alert - Restart Engine." The defect has been reproduced and confirmed repeatedly by the Ford dealer, which performed the engine and transmission replacements. A repurchase request was denied. 2022 Audi Q5 (VIN: [XXX] ). Engine lubrication system failure — persistent abnormal oil consumption across two separate engines over 14 months. Beginning March 2025, the low engine oil warning light began activating repeatedly, sometimes after as few as 300 miles. AutoNation Audi Bellevue confirmed 1 quart low and initiated oil consumption tests. Their technician noted in writing that oil found
... externally was "not enough to cause a 1 quart low oil light" — meaning the root cause was never identified. A PCV valve replacement was attempted July 2025; the warning returned after only 300 miles — same as before the fix. Audi of America approved a full engine replacement in September 2025, completed December 2025. Within weeks of pickup in January 2026, the low oil warning activated again on the brand new engine, and again after 4,000 miles in April 2026. The defect has persisted across two engines despite multiple repair attempts. Audi now claims consumption is "within spec" at 0.16 qt/1,000 miles but has not explained why the warning light keeps activating. Luckily, it was in the morning and not during peak traffic congestion. Had I been going on the expressway I could’ve harmed myself, or someone else. This is highly unacceptable that a car with only 96k miles has a serious engine issue like this. I have maintained the oil changes at the required intervals, changed the fuel pump under recall, tires, brakes etc. After towing to the dealership. Diagnostics were performed and it was confirmed that the coolant was empty and radiator low. Which then prompted the dealer to perform a borescope test for the cylinders and it was found that cylinder 3 had a misfire and was leaking coolant into the cylinders causing premature wear on the gasket as well. The coolant intrusion defect creates a serious safety concern because the engine can suddenly misfire, lose power, overheat, or fail unexpectedly while driving. A sudden engine failure could place the driver and others at risk, especially during highway driving or in remote areas. The issue developed shortly after the vehicle was purchased from a dealership in June 2025. The symptoms are consistent with the widely documented Ford EcoBoost coolant intrusion defect acknowledged by Ford through Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12. The vehicle has exhibited symptoms including coolant loss and engine performance concerns consistent with this known defect. The dealership has been notified of the issue. The dealership has been contacted regarding the issue. Ford has previously acknowledged this defect through Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12 relating to coolant intrusion in affected EcoBoost engines. Most recently, the dealership advised that the issue was resolved and returned the vehicle to me. Within approximately 30 minutes of leaving the dealership and driving on the freeway, the check engine light returned and the same stalling and loss-of-power condition immediately reappeared. The defect creates a significant safety concern because the vehicle loses the ability to accelerate normally while operating in traffic and on freeways. My 2025 Cadillac Escalade ESV lost power and shut down while I was driving on the highway. The gas pedal stopped responding, and the vehicle would not restart afterward. It wasn't until the weather was getting warm that I try to use the Cold air in my car that I notice that there was nothing but hot air coming out and not the ice-cold air that I was getting before I took it to the BMW dealer in Latham. I connected a code reader to my car and the codes that come back were U019F and U0079 which stated that is was a lost communication with the Engin coolant pump. I call BMW and tell them about my complaints; they told me to bring in my car to get it look at. I brought the car to Keeler. The Service Advisor Daniel Purpura told me that my car has be reset and a shelter cap replace and the shop mechanic drove it, and now the check engine light is off. When I went to start the car the engine light was back on, and I told him that. He told me that the code they found was code 003B97. The 003B97 is not the recall code, but it was caused by the recall work. Under federal recall law, any defect created during recall repair must be corrected at no charge. I purchased this vehicle with my own funds and am the person responsible for its maintenance, safety, and recall compliance. The vehicle is titled, registered, and insured in my fiancée name who holds the valid driver’s license for the household. Although the paperwork is in her name, I am the beneficial and equitable owner of the vehicle and who tried to get the recall.Read more

On May 27, 2026 at approximately 11:00 PM, my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Overland (VIN: [XXX] ) suffered catastrophic engine failure during normal operation at 78,190 miles. The alternator seized, causing the harmonic balancer (crankshaft damper) to fracture. The broken balancer fell into the engine block, causing extensive internal damage requiring complete engine replacement at significant cost. This
... failure sequence points to a design and/or manufacturing defect in the OEM alternator and/or its mounting system on the 3.6L Pentastar V6. A properly designed alternator should not seize with enough force to fracture the harmonic balancer and deposit debris into the engine block under normal operating conditions. The vehicle was not involved in any accident or operator abuse. It was being driven normally with no prior warning — no dashboard lights, no unusual sounds, no prior related mechanical issues. I request NHTSA investigate whether this failure pattern is systemic across 2020 Jeep Gladiator vehicles and other 3.6L Pentastar V6 platforms, including the Jeep Wrangler, Ram 1500, and Dodge Durango. Sudden complete engine failure at highway speeds is an immediate crash hazard to the driver and surrounding motorists. I respectfully request a formal defect investigation and, if warranted, a safety recall with full remediation and reimbursement of repair costs to affected owners. I am reporting a catastrophic engine failure on a 2023 Jeep Wagoneer (VIN: [XXX] ) that occurred within 163 miles of consumer delivery, suggesting a latent manufacturing defect present at the time of sale. The vehicle was delivered February 13, 2026 at approximately 29,750 miles. Engine noise was noted the same evening. By March 10, 2026, the vehicle was grounded at Farris Motor Company [XXX] ) a
... t 29,913 miles — 163 miles after delivery. The vehicle remains inoperable after 60+ days. Stellantis STAR Case #XXX documents the following confirmed failures: collapsed lifters, failed camshaft, damaged rockers, and scored cylinder walls. Technician notes in the official STAR Case record state the engine oil contained metal contamination so severe it "looked like paint." Borescope imaging confirmed scoring on cylinder walls. Stellantis has thus far refused to authorize a full engine replacement, instead directing the servicing dealer to replace only individually identified failed components — despite the fact that metal contamination of this severity compromises the entire lubrication circuit, including both turbochargers. The servicing dealer (Farris Motor Company) has independently advocated to Stellantis for full engine replacement and agrees the partial repair is insufficient. I am reporting this failure to NHTSA to document the defect pattern and request investigation into whether other 2023 Wagoneer vehicles with the 3.0L Hurricane engine may be experiencing similar latent valvetrain failures.
