2018 Ford Escape 105K miles. Check engine light came on, car ran rough, white smoke coming out of tail pipe. I took it to a third party mechanic, they ruled out coolant intrusion (or so they said) replaced a coil and spark plug and cleared check engine light. One week later after I had driven maybe 100 miles it had a very rough start in the morning and the check engine light came on again. I noti
... ced white smoke coming out of the tail pipe. I had it towed back to the mechanic that first worked on it. They found coolant intrusion. This creates a safety concern because the vehicle can misfire, overheat, lose power, enter limp mode, or stall while driving, including at highway speeds or in traffic. A sudden loss of engine power could prevent me from accelerating, merging, clearing an intersection, or safely pulling off the roadway. Ford has acknowledged coolant intrusion on certain 2017–2019 Escape 1.5L engines through Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12, which provided short-block repair coverage for coolant intrusion, but my vehicle is now outside coverage and requires an engine replacement. Up to this point Ford has refused to provide any assistance.Read more

The engine seized up and car will not start. Luckily, I was trying to start the car in my driveway when this happened, but it would have been dangerous had it happened while I was driving. All of the warning lamps and messages started when the issue begin. The vehicle was inspected and the problem has been reproduced by a service center AND a Honda dealer. I have attached the invoice from the s
... ervice center. After their diagnosis, I had the car towed to Ourisman Honda in Bethesda, MD because I was hoping to start the recall process with them, however they will not do it because, stangely, my vin # is not included. There is a known recall for this issue (#23V-751) and the recall lists my exact car (2016 Honda Pilot) however, for some reason my vin # is not showing as being included in the recall. The car is experiencing the exact issue that this recall covers, but the Honda dealer will not cover it because my specific vin # isn't listed. This would be a significant expense that I am not able to cover out of pocket, and I have now been without my car for over a week. I am not sure why only certain vin #'s are eligible when there are obviously many other 2016 Honda Pilots experiencing the issue.Read more

While driving, the engine began making a loud knocking/rattling noise and the check engine light began flashing. The vehicle experienced a loss of power and was unsafe to continue operating normally. The vehicle was taken to a Hyundai dealership for diagnosis. The engine requires replacement. Hyundai denied coverage, claiming excessive oil consumption and/or maintenance concerns. However, upon in
... spection, the dealership removed the valve cover and advised that the engine was internally clean and showed no significant sludge buildup consistent with severe neglect. I am concerned that this engine failure may be related to known Hyundai engine issues involving the 2.4L GDI engine. The failure occurred well before the expected service life of the engine and created a potential safety hazard due to the loss of power while driving. I am requesting that NHTSA review this failure and determine whether similar failures are occurring in 2020 Hyundai Tucson vehicles equipped with the 2.4L GDI engine.Read more

On [XXX], my 2015 BMW 328i xDrive (VIN: [XXX] , N20 engine, 124,250 miles) suffered a catastrophic engine failure while in operation. Component/System Failed: The timing chain guides and oil pump drive chain module failed. The plastic timing chain guide broke apart inside the engine. The vehicle was salvaged and is no longer available for inspection. Safety Risk: The oil pressure warning illumin
... ated suddenly while driving at highway speed with no prior warning. Sudden loss of oil pressure and engine power while operating a vehicle at speed creates a significant risk of accident, loss of vehicle control, and injury to the driver and others on the road. Confirmed by Service Center: BMW of Springfield, New Jersey performed a formal diagnostic confirming timing chain guide failure and oil pump drive chain failure. A BMW mechanic performed a scope inspection on April 3, 2026 visually confirming the broken plastic timing chain guide. Repair estimate: $7,191.42. Inspected by Others: The vehicle was inspected solely by BMW of Springfield. No police, insurance, or manufacturer representatives conducted a separate inspection. The failure mode is consistent with the defect acknowledged in BMW NA Technical Service Bulletin SI B11 03 17 and federal class action [XXX] v. BMW of North America, LLC (D.N.J. [XXX]). Warning Symptoms: The only warning was a sudden oil pressure warning message on the dashboard immediately before failure. Prior to that moment the vehicle operated normally with no unusual noises, no warning lights, and no fluid leaks. There were no gradual symptoms or prior indications of impending failure. Vehicle was declared a total economic loss and salvaged for $1,650.00. No injuries occurred. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

So the ultimate failure is from a catastrophically failed crankshaft journal thrust bearing. Which could be caused from one of two things: 1) The crankshaft thrust bearings they are putting in these motors are made with inferior materials, probably cheap Chinese crap or 2) The crankshaft end play tolerance was never set properly, giving the crankshaft the ability to move forward and backward in th
... e engine more than it was designed to. Which will over time beat up on the thrust bearing until it fails. In either case it would result in the same progressive issue showing itself. It will start as a squeak here and there. Which, as the soft thrust bearing material is unable to hold the proper oil film thickness for lubrication, will spiral into more and more heat being sent into the adjacent components, plus the buildup of metal particles being sent through the entire engine oiling system. Which will then start killing connecting rod and crankshaft bearings one by one. If the engine survived to this point, it’s now a ticking time bomb. It is either going to just seize up and not run anymore or the exciting route would be a connecting rod breaks and makes a window sized hole in the side of the engine block.Read more

I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2025 Cadillac Escalade, which experienced a catastrophic engine failure while being driven on a public roadway with approximately 13,000 miles on the vehicle. While traveling from [XXX] to [XXX] , the vehicle suddenly lost power while in motion. A warning message appeared stating “Press to Start Again.” The engine shut off completely while driving,
... causing an immediate loss of propulsion. The vehicle went into neutral, and I was forced to maneuver to the side of the road to avoid a potentially dangerous situation. Once stopped, the vehicle would not restart. Multiple attempts were made using both the push-button ignition and key fob remote start, but the vehicle remained inoperable. The vehicle was towed and later diagnosed as requiring a complete engine replacement despite being less than one year old. I believe this is a serious safety defect because the vehicle lost power without warning while being driven. Had this occurred in heavier traffic, while crossing an intersection, merging, or traveling at higher speeds, it could have resulted in a serious accident, injury, or death. This was not the first major issue with this vehicle. Within weeks of taking delivery, multiple components required repair or replacement, including: • Complete replacement of the camera system due to defective cameras • Replacement of a defective lighting component • Transmission failure concerns • Cylinder #2 misfire issues The repeated failures of major vehicle systems, culminating in a complete engine failure and loss of propulsion while driving, raise serious concerns about the safety and reliability of this vehicle. Additionally, after the engine failure, the vehicle could not be placed into neutral and had to be dragged onto a tow truck, causing damage to the tires and raising concerns about emergency roadside recovery procedures. My vehicle is currently subject to an open Ford transmission safety recall for which no repair remedy is available at this time. The vehicle is experiencing a recurring and dangerous failure while driving. Approximately twice per day, during my normal commute, all vehicle electronics suddenly shut off while the vehicle is in motion. At the same time, the wheels appear to lock up, causing a sudden
... loss of vehicle control and creating a significant crash risk. When the failure occurs, I am forced to immediately shift the transmission into neutral while the vehicle is still moving. After approximately 5 to 10 seconds, I can shift back into drive and continue operating the vehicle. However, vehicle electronics often remain inoperative for the remainder of the trip. This condition is occurring repeatedly and has become more frequent. The issue currently occurs approximately once during my drive to work and once during my drive home. My commute is approximately 20 minutes each way. The vehicle has not yet been involved in a crash, but I believe a crash is likely if this condition continues. The sudden loss of power, loss of electronics, and wheel lockup while driving creates an immediate safety hazard to myself, my passengers, and other motorists. I am submitting this complaint because the vehicle is subject to an active safety recall, the condition appears related to the recall, and no repair remedy is currently available. We chose to take the vehicle to Shottenkirk Honda in Huntsville , Alabama for repair. They kept the vehicle for longer than they annticipated and told us that they would have to get a technician from Carrollton, Georgia to look at it. They contacted us over a week later and told us it was the fuel pump. They fixed the pump and the vehicle seemed fine. That was October, 2025. I have a 2018 Ford Edge supposedly bought "brand new" was advertised "brand new" but later find out it wasn't because dealership had titled it to themselves as a loaner. He took it to our local mechanic and he said he looked with scope and saw coolant in the cylinder. My car now sits at th
... e Ford Dealership in Albemarle and has been diagnosed with the coolant intrusion issue and I have to pay for a engine. My calls to Ford were useless, they refused to help even though this issue was well known to them and I was never informed or I would have traded this vehicle in a long time ago. The service rep at the dealership said I was looking at about $7400 out the door plus an issue with "fluid leaking" on both front wheels, which is another $1000. She also said she would advocate on my behalf with Ford to see if they will cover any of this $$$ repair. We are waiting to find out their response. I have a line of credit set up to pay for this but really can't afford to put money into this lemon. I am disappointed in Ford as a Ford Mustang was my first car and my husband and I have bought several brand new and used vehicles over the years. We were life long Ford people but Ford doesn't stand behind well known (to them) defective engines so we are no longer. My choices are 1) pay $8500 to have the repairs fixed, 2) Ford assisting me with paying for the engine replacement 4) Selling/trading my vehicle to avoid the expensive repair and only getting between $2000 and 3000. Either way (unless Ford helps me) I am out around $7400-$8500! Most of all I feel like I've been driving around blind to the fact that a fire could have resulted. I frequently have my grandchildren in my car and it could have been devastating. Or my engine could have blown in the middle of heavy traffic putting us at risk of collision and the task of somehow getting it out of the road safely.Read more

I am formally reporting a catastrophic engine failure involving the 1.5L turbocharged engine in the current-generation Honda Accord. As a professional high-mileage driver, I am exposing a severe design defect that poses immediate safety risks. While driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly exhibited severe engine shuddering, a sudden loss of acceleration, and a dashboard overheating warning.
... A certified Honda dealership inspection revealed a severe head gasket failure, confirming that engine coolant is actively leaking into cylinders 1 and 3, causing critical engine misfires. This is an inherent manufacturing defect, not normal wear. The engine runs under extremely high thermal pressures, and the factory head bolts fail to maintain a proper seal, allowing coolant to breach the combustion chamber. The safety implications are critical. A sudden loss of power and engine stalling at highway speeds forces drivers into high-risk emergency situations, drastically increasing the likelihood of collisions. Furthermore, the constant loss of coolant leads to sudden engine overheating, creating a severe fire hazard. This exact issue plagued the previous 10th-generation Accord, and it is now clear that Honda failed to implement a permanent engineering fix for the current generation. Representatives from Honda Corporate have explicitly acknowledged to me that a manufacturer recall for this exact engine defect is currently under internal consideration. Because high-mileage vehicles reach the structural threshold of this component much faster than the average consumer, this case represents an early warning sign of a widespread, recurring failure. NHTSA must initiate an immediate safety defect investigation into the current Honda 1.5T engine powertrain to prevent catastrophic highway accidents and protect the public.Read more

I am filing this complaint to report a recurring, life-threatening safety defect in my 2025 Kia Carnival Hybrid involving the battery and hybrid propulsion system. This defect has occurred twice, and despite dealer repair attempts, it has not been resolved. On both occasions, while the vehicle was in operation, the hybrid system failed without warning. The vehicle displayed a hybrid system failure
... alert, lost the ability to accelerate normally, and became unable to maintain safe driving speeds. On the most recent occurrence, the sudden and unexpected loss of vehicle power created an immediate risk of collision. The vehicle’s failure while in traffic nearly resulted in a serious crash. I was driving with passengers at the time. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Kia dealership for repair following each incident. The same defect has now recurred after the first repair was completed, demonstrating that the underlying cause has not been identified or corrected. This defect substantially impairs the safety of the vehicle. The sudden loss of hybrid system function and propulsion while driving at road speed creates a direct and serious risk of accident, injury, or death to the vehicle’s occupants and to other drivers on the road. I am a [XXX] resident and am aware that this defect is not isolated to my vehicle. Numerous other 2025 Kia Carnival Hybrid owners have filed similar NHTSA complaints regarding battery failure and sudden loss of acceleration. I urge the NHTSA to open a formal investigation into this defect and to require Kia Motors America to issue a safety recall. I am currently too frightened to operate this vehicle and request urgent attention to this matter. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

My 2012 Range Rover HSE Sport, after repeated calls and asking to speak to the appropriate parties about my car, finally got a call and said that the the safety recall was completed to [XXX] and I could pick up my car. ... ety recall, and upon my insistence, "they" said it was complete. The defect was with the manufacturer call to fix my car. The dealership members were very rude and noncompliant. I asked that they would reach out to the manufacturer and my request to the manufacturer was that honor and fix the engine at in good faith and their expense to the dealership.their expense. I have reached out to the manufacturer aa well Jaguar Land Rover North America LLC who has a foreign business in [XXX] and [XXX] and not being transparent with contacts and demands. I have rented a car for almost 3 months and certainly since the Dealership refused for 30 days not to repair my car because of the safety, I feel that those days of extended car rental and the fact the dealership refuse to fix my car, that the dealership should be responsible for the car rental as well. The safety recall is free of charge.I have looked and searched and asked and find that the manufacturer for Range Rover is originated in [XXX] and doing business in [XXX] and [XXX] . Where each State protects consumer with the Lemon Law to some degree . Please advise. I fear that the parties who worked on my car has taken advantage of me. Every part acceptable to the engine failur was replaced with parts for Range Rover dealers and other venue and I had to find a mechanic capable of replacing and diagnosing the issue that still persisted because I was told that the dealership did not service cars under the year 2012. My 2020 Chevy TrailBoss 6.2L V8 L87, same engine that has been recalled for 2021-2024 literally went dead in the middle of rush hour traffic. The engine has been deemed dead due to the exact current recall reasons. Seeing that was traffic was flowing at 45mph that was not a good scene as the vehicle " locked" itself into park originally so I was stuck in the middle of traffic. The vehicle has been

My car currently has 66300 miles. And already requiring engine block repair that costs almost $8800 by Ford Tasca. July last year, Tasca Ford repaired spark plug issues and it didn’t even last a year. For that mileage, a car should not need dealing with an engine issue like this. There’s obviously a problem with the car to begin with. Its causing strain in my life financially and in general, k

Vehicle has a recurring P0018 fault code (Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 2 Sensor A). Dealer diagnosed loose cam pins on Bank 2 requiring major engine repair. This fault creates a safety risk as improper camshaft timing can cause unexpected engine stalling while driving, resulting in sudden loss of power, power steering, and brake assist. The manufacturer has denied warra

I own a 2018 Honda Odyssey 3.5L V6 and while my wife and 9 year old daughter were driving down the highway at 70mph that car decided to throw a rod throw the bottom of the motor leaving my family stranded on the roadside with no motor oil left in the car. This is a known issue for the 2018 Honda Odyssey but only for certain VIN numbers. I think it's pretty clear from all of the online complaints f
... rom this same year that it's not only those VIN numbers. We have always replaced the oil at 3,500 miles with Mobile 1 syntenic 0w-20 and always check the oil level to make sure none is missing. For the car to just throw a rod at 157k miles is pretty concerning as this will require a entire engine replacement out of pocket cost as Honda will not take ownership of this even though this year and model is known to have issues. I would like to see more VIN numbers added to their recall because this isn't fair to the people who buy a car for reliability and are left stranded on the roadside for a known issue they are not being forced to stand behind and make right.
