On April 27, 2026, my 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe experienced an intermittent electrical/system malfunction affecting multiple vehicle systems at the same time. Multiple orange warning lights/messages appeared on the dash, including driver-assistance warnings and the master warning triangle. At the same time, the front turn signal stopped working, causing rapid flashing; the power locks stopped working;
... the windows would not roll up or down; and the rear liftgate would not open using the key fob or exterior liftgate button. The vehicle/component is available for inspection upon request. This created a safety and access issue. The malfunction affected exterior signaling, locks, windows, and rear cargo access. My dog was in a crate in the rear cargo area, and I could not open the liftgate normally to access him. The failure of locks/windows/liftgate could create a serious emergency risk if a person, pet, or cargo needed to be accessed quickly, and the turn signal failure affected my ability to safely signal to other drivers. The issue lasted approximately 30–40 minutes and did not immediately clear after turning the vehicle off and back on. It later returned to normal on its own. This has happened more than once. The vehicle was taken to a Hyundai dealership for inspection. The dealer has been working with Hyundai Techline, but as of now they have not been able to reproduce the issue or find active diagnostic codes. I provided video evidence of the dash warnings from the incident. The dealer advised that scans currently show systems operating as designed because the issue is intermittent and not occurring during inspection. There were no prior symptoms before the failure. The warning lamps and messages appeared at the time the malfunction occurred. Seek reimbursement for rental car fees and diagnostic fee.Read more

While entering a roundabout at a slow speed (~5MPH), the electronic power steering on my wife's car failed, almost resulting in an accident with another vehicle, as it suddenly became very difficult to steer. The vehicle's power steering warning indicator turned on, and then the following warning messages appeared on the dashboard: Check Forward/Side Safety system, Check Lane Safety system, Check
... Lane Following Assist system, and Check Inattentive Driving Warning system. After turning into a nearby parking lot and parking, the vehicle was turned off and then back on, and all warning messages and the power steering warning indicator turned off. My wife was approximately 1 mile from home and decided to try to drive home. After getting back on the road, the same issue occurred again with all indicators and warnings repopulating on the dashboard this time with the vehicle traveling at approximately 35 MPH as she crossed a major intersection. My wife was able to get the car home safely without power steering, and after turning the car off and back on again, all warning messages and indicators turned off again. The next day, 4/30/2026, we contacted our local Hyundai dealer and Hyundai roadside assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it is currently being serviced for this issue. We have not yet received an update on what caused the issue, but we felt it was important to report it to NHTSA because, if it had happened at a higher speed, it could have resulted in a serious accident and possibly serious injury or death of my pregnant wife and child, who was with her in the car at the time. I can provide any and all updates and documentation I receive from the dealer upon request, and the vehicle can possibly be made available for inspection upon request.Read more

I am filing this complaint because this vehicle has had multiple intermittent safety-related electrical/software and driver-assistance problems, and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has powered on but would not shift out of Park into Drive. The most recent time, I was leaving work and the vehicle would not let me shift into Drive. I was stuck
... there for about two hours and had to call for a tow. When the tow truck arrived, the vehicle suddenly allowed me to shift into Drive again and I was able to drive home. This is very concerning because the vehicle can leave someone stranded without warning. The vehicle has also falsely detected hazards or forward-collision situations several times while driving, even though there was no nearby vehicle, pedestrian, object, or anything else that should have triggered a warning. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has abruptly applied automatic emergency braking and slammed on the brakes for no apparent reason while traveling at 30-50 MPH. I am very concerned this could cause a crash, especially if another vehicle is behind me. The vehicle has also had charging and range display problems on multiple occasions. For example, last week it was charged to about 80% and then driven about 50 miles, but the displayed range/state of charge did not properly decrease or update until the vehicle was turned off and restarted about an hour later. These issues have continued despite prior dealer updates and recall work. The manufacturer has been notified, and the vehicle is being brought back to an authorized dealer for inspection. I do not know yet whether the dealer or manufacturer has been able to reproduce or confirm the problems. The issues appear to involve the electrical/software systems, shift/park function, battery/range display, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking systems.Read more

A vehicle was taken to a collision repair facility following minor front-end damage. At intake, the repair facility documented visible exterior damage but did not perform or document an underbody inspection, which is necessary to assess high-voltage battery integrity in electric vehicles. After the vehicle entered teardown, the repair facility later claimed that the high-voltage battery was damag
... ed and recommended that the vehicle be declared a total loss. This determination was made without documented evidence of required OEM diagnostic procedures and without initial intake documentation supporting battery damage. The sequence and timing of documentation raises concern that the battery damage determination was made after teardown rather than through proper inspection protocols. A subsequent manufacturer-level evaluation did not support the claim of battery damage. This situation presents a safety concern regarding whether proper high-voltage battery inspection and handling procedures are being followed by collision repair facilities. Misidentifying or improperly handling high-voltage battery conditions in electric vehicles can pose safety risks, including potential thermal events, improper classification of vehicle safety, or unsafe return to service. This complaint is submitted to request review of whether proper safety and OEM procedures were followed in evaluating the high-voltage battery, and whether this reflects a broader safety issue in electric vehicle collision repair practices.Read more

I picked up the vehicle after being told it was safe to drive. Mercedes-Benz has informed me that the remedy requires a full high-voltage battery replacement, which may take many months (until at least December). In the meantime, the vehicle is not usable as a daily vehicle due to the combined safety and charging restrictions. I have attempted to work with Mercedes-Benz USA to obtain an appropriate remedy for this loss of use, but I have been told that only minimal options are available, and my request for executive-level review has been denied. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in reviewing this matter as a safety-related loss-of-use issue. The current restrictions materially affect my ability to safely operate and maintain the vehicle. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

Purchased a used 2022 Audi E-Tron GT with an open NHTSA safety recall for high-voltage battery fire risk (Recall 24V726 / Audi 931A). The recall remedy had not been performed at time of purchase. The selling dealer completed a pre-delivery inspection two weeks prior to sale with full knowledge of the open recall. Within 7 weeks of purchase, the vehicle entered limited performance mode (turtle mode
... ) while driving and had to be towed. A high-voltage coolant pump was diagnosed faulty and replaced. Days later, the vehicle powered down completely while driving. Fault codes indicated an implausible signal from the HV battery controller. The battery management controller (J840) was replaced. After replacement, additional faults were found. The HV battery switch box (SX6) was also diagnosed faulty and replaced. The vehicle was out of service approximately 18 days for this event alone. Within 11 months of purchase, the vehicle developed water intrusion in the trunk area traced to a faulty spoiler motor sealing surface. This caused corrosion to the center tail lamp connector, electrical shorts to all three tail lamps, and required repair of six wiring harness connections. A body electrical wiring repair was also documented in service history prior to purchase, suggesting a pre-existing sealing defect. Total: 9 dealer visits and 50+ days out of service in under 14 months. All repairs performed under manufacturer warranty. The open safety recall was not completed until 8 months after purchase.Read more
