This is a follow up to my previous complaint. 11729106. I brought my Honda Pilot to my local dealer. They confirmed there is a problem with the keyless start system on my Honda. I ended up paying around $1000 to have it repaired. I have great concern that this could have caused a fatality. I park my car in the garage at home, and the car started by itself. I have pets and children.

On 05/06/2026c I was driving this same vehicle, traveling approximately 40 mph. While traveling all of the same lights re-appeared and I lost all steering to the vehicle, I almost crashed the vehicle and was almost hit by other vehicles, while trying to slow the vehicle, due to not having any steering to the vehicle. I was able to get the vehicle to stop, and immediately had it towed to the dealership. This vehicle has approximately 4,632 miles. The dealership has not notified me what the issue is text but this vehicle is dangerous. If this issue is not resolved or a recall conducted for this issue, people are going to get seriously injured or killed. Currently I am employed as a deputy us marshal, and was a prior police officer for 12 years. My only reason in stating this, is I have bared witness to many fatality accidents in my years as a law enforcement officer, and quite frankly I do not feel comfortable in letting my wife drive this vehicle, with my children in it. Why This Requires Federal Attention: This is not an isolated incident. Hundreds of 2013 Prius owners have reported identical symptoms, with associated diagnostic trouble codes C1391, C1252, C1256, and C1253. Toyota acknowledged this defect by issuing Technical Service Bulletin TSB-0089-20 and a Customer Support Program (ZJB) providing limited extended warranty coverage. However, that program was not well publicized . I was never informed as a vehicle owner . And it has now expired, leaving thousands of owners with a dangerous defect and repair bills costing thousands . A safety defect of this magnitude — one that can result in sudden, significant loss of braking ability — should not have an expiration date on its remedy. Toyota has not issued a mandatory recall, and owners continue to unknowingly drive vehicles with compromised brake systems. Another thing I have noticed as of the last 68c update is that when in electric mode and merging onto a freeway for example, it gets really sluggish at about 65mph and the gas engine won't kick in like it used to before the update. The recall 25V-636 remains unresolved after more than 6 month passed since the manufacturer issued the campaign regarding the engine starter. I would like to see the NHTSA to put the manufacturer on notice that this is unacceptable. We cannot park the vehicle outside of structures permanently as this devalues the vehicle and creates a loss of use.

My vehicle experienced failure related to the recall issue, resulting in the vehicle becoming inoperable and requiring repair. At the time of failure, I was informed that the official recall remedy was not yet available and that the necessary part was on backorder.
... Because no recall remedy was available, I was forced to pay out of pocket to repair the vehicle in order to restore operability. I also incurred significant rental vehicle expenses while my car remained in the repair shop awaiting parts. I contacted Stellantis/Dodge Customer Care multiple times requesting assistance or reimbursement related to: * the repair costs associated with the recall-related failure, and * rental expenses incurred while the vehicle was out of service. My requests were denied, and the matter was repeatedly categorized as an “out-of-warranty” issue despite my concern specifically involving an active safety recall with no available remedy at the time of failure. I am concerned about: * the lack of an available recall remedy, * the financial burden placed on consumers when a recall-related failure occurs before a remedy is available, * extended delays due to backordered parts, and * the absence of transportation assistance or reimbursement for affected consumers. I am requesting that this complaint be documented and reviewed as a recall-related consumer safety and financial hardship issue.Read more

The contact asked the dealer to replace the engine coolant pump and connector. However, the dealer refused. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired.
