On May 21, 2026, a supervisor corporate representative (Nancy, ID 7319115) refused to cover 100% of the manufacturing defect, denied providing a resolution in writing, and explicitly prohibited me from recording the phone call to avoid leaving an official audio trail of their statements. These failures create a significant safety risk by impairing rear visibility and reducing driver awareness of nearby vehicles, objects, or pedestrians during backing and parking maneuvers. The problem has been occurring for more than one year. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealership, which has stated that the vehicle is subject to an open safety recall. However, the dealership reports that parts and/or the final repair remedy are still unavailable, and no repair has been completed despite repeated attempts to obtain recall service. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership/manufacturer representative in connection with the recall condition. No police or insurance inspection was involved because no crash has yet occurred. Prior to and during the failures, warning messages and symptoms intermittently appear, including loss of the camera display and temporary unavailability of driver assistance features. The failures may occur without warning and have been recurring for over one year. The unresolved condition affects the safe operation, usability, and value of the vehicle. I purchased the vehicle new, the first owner and not even a three months later the nightmare began. I have taken it to the Honda dealership serval times when it is happening and the course of action is a screen reset and the issue still persist. There were no warnings or lights that came on prior to it to happening, it just began and has never stopped. The reset is not a sufficient solution and the only other option there is to replace it which cost well over a thousand dollars and most customers can't afford it. During the visit, I agreed to replace the cabin/carbon air filter as recommended. Approximately three weeks later, while driving, I turned on the air conditioning and immediately noticed a strong burning smell coming from the vents. Concerned about a possible electrical or overheating issue, I turned the air off immediately. I contacted BMW service and the earliest available appointment was scheduled for May 20, 2026. During the scheduling call, the BMW service representative informed me that my vehicle also had an active recall that would be addressed during my appointment. When I asked for details, I was told it involved a “software update issue.” On May 18, 2026, I attempted to use the air conditioning again. This time, the burning smell became significantly worse and was combined with a musty odor. Shortly afterward, the ventilation system stopped blowing air entirely. When I arrived at BMW service, I explained the symptoms to my advisor. He responded that the issue “sounded familiar” and stepped away to speak with someone else. When he returned, he explained that another customer had recently reported a similar issue involving a recall on a BMW M5, but stated that the BMW X1 did not currently have the same recall. It took about two minutes to manage the lurching, power-limited vehicle across multiple lanes of traffic to reach the shoulder. My partner was in the vehicle. Had this happened on a bridge, a grade without a shoulder, a tunnel approach, or in heavier traffic, I believe a collision was a realistic outcome. The vehicle was towed to a Subaru dealer and diagnosed with a failed Thermo Control Valve. Sixteen trouble codes were stored, including P26A6, P0606, P060B, P2138, P2135, P2122, P2119, P2004, P2005, and P0191. Mileage was 49,983. There was no prior symptom. The vehicle had a full multi-point inspection at the same dealer only 11 days and ~1,400 miles earlier ([XXX]); nothing was flagged. This failure mode is already known to Subaru, addressed by Technical Service Bulletin 09-119-24 and a warranty extension to 15 years/150,000 miles; the dealer repair order confirms the TSB. I am concerned Subaru handles a safety-relevant failure, one that disables collision-avoidance systems at highway speed, through a quiet warranty extension rather than a recall or owner notification. the car shuts off at a red light, fails to auto-restart, forces the car into Park, and requires a full manual reboot or jumpstart while stuck in moving traffic. It also struggles to turn on at times mimicking a drained battery. I am needing to deactivate the auto start/stop feature in order for the vehicle to properly function. Vehicle will not start when parked at times.

Check engine light illuminated with service transmission. The next day transmission started slipping and finally would not engage in reverse. Dealership Has it now and after diagnosis they advised that they had replaced the electronic control module to which, on the test drive, the gauge cluster blacked out and they got more codes. While driving vehicle during afternoon traffic, the vehicle started to sputter then die in the middle of the road, I tried restarting the vehicle, it would crank but would not start. I pushed the vehicle off the road and called a wrecker. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership for repair.
