Toyota’s Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) recall, which prevents airbags from deploying in a crash, was announced in November 2023. Despite multiple calls over the past year, Toyota has failed to resolve the issue, repeatedly giving me the runaround—both over the phone and in person at the dealership. This is completely unacceptable. My previous Camry had an airbag recall, which was fixed
... just before a serious accident caused by an unlicensed driver. Thankfully, the airbags deployed, likely preventing severe injury or worse. Now, I face the same dangerous issue again with this recall, and I refuse to put myself or my son at risk by driving a vehicle with defective airbags. After finally escalating the issue to Toyota corporate, they offered me a loaner vehicle. However, after spending an entire day coordinating and traveling to pick it up, the dealership treated me terribly, refusing to provide a comparable vehicle with basic features like Apple CarPlay for GPS. The staff was rude and unprofessional, making me extremely uncomfortable leaving my car there for an estimated four months—the earliest they claim they can fix it. This is my primary vehicle—our only car for long trips and daily use. I have an older car for short errands, but this is not a viable alternative. To make matters worse, when I reported the terrible experience back to Toyota corporate, they had no solutions, and will not offer rental car reimbursement. This is negligence, plain and simple. This is the second time in the past 10-15 years Toyota has faced a major airbag recall, with at least 28 fatalities and a $70+ million settlement tied to past failures. How is Toyota being allowed to do this again? They must be held accountable.Read more

Our 2021 Cadillac Escalade has experienced multiple ongoing issues. The “driver airbag warning” light has been a major concern, with the dealership stating that the airbag could malfunction at any moment. When we took the vehicle in for repairs, they determined that a previous maintenance job on the driver’s airbag was done incorrectly, which was causing the warning light to activate. Additi
... onally, the vehicle intermittently displays warnings for the “service system restraint system,” “service power steering column,” “reducing features to save battery,” and “service driver assist system.” Despite multiple visits to the dealership, we are consistently told that their diagnostic computers do not populate any error codes, leaving them uncertain about the cause of these warnings. Another major issue is battery drainage. We replaced the original battery two years ago, yet we have needed Cadillac roadside assistance twice because the vehicle wouldn’t start. Each time, the battery tested as healthy, but the car remained inoperable due to a drained battery. Lastly, we have had to replace the remote key batteries every 2-3 months, which seems excessive for a relatively new vehicle. Safety Risks: The driver airbag warning light indicates that the airbag could malfunction at any moment, which poses a serious safety risk in the event of an accident. The service system restraint system warning suggests potential failure in critical safety components. Issues with the service power steering column could lead to steering difficulties while driving, increasing the risk of an accident. The reducing features to save battery warning and service driver assist system warning suggest possible electrical failures that could impact vehicle performance and safety. The other issues, including system warnings and battery drainage, have been repeatedly reported to the dealership, but they have been unable to confirm the cause as their diagnostic system does not register error codes.Read more

The airbag system malfunctioned, causing the airbags to deploy unexpectedly while driving. The vehicle is currently at the Honda dealer for repairs and the airbags, as well as related components, are available for inspection upon request. The unexpected deployment of the airbags posed a significant safety risk. It startled me, which impaired my control of the vehicle suddenly as I was driving on
... the highway. Afterwards, I noticed fumes in the vehicle and I began feeling nauseous and light headed. I managed to pull over on the highway and stepped out of the vehicle. This could have led to a loss of control of vehicle, increasing the risk of collision or injury to not only myself but others on the road as well. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center yet. However, my insurance appraiser inspected the vehicle immediately after the incident and confirmed that the airbags deployed without any signs of a collision or impact. The cause of the deployment remains unknown, and the appraiser recommended that Honda investigate the issue further to identify any potential malfunction in the airbag system. The issue has been inspected by my insurance appraiser, who concluded that while the airbags deployed, there were no visible signs of a collision or any impact that would typically trigger airbag deployment. The inspection of the vehicle’s exterior panels, undercarriage, and suspension showed no signs of damage. The cause of the airbag deployment is unknown, and the appraiser recommended that Honda investigate further to determine if a malfunction within the vehicle’s airbag system is responsible. I believe Honda is at fault, as this issue appears to be related to a malfunction that they need to address. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the airbag deployment. However, after the airbags deployed, warning lights appeared on the dashboard, indicating a potential issue.Read more
