While making a slow right turn into a shopping plaza, I accidentally struck a median curb with only the driver’s side front tire. Despite the low speed and minimal impact, the passenger side front airbag deployed without cause, severely endangering my passenger. Aside from a flat tire, there was no damage to the body of the car. Fortunately, we were moving slowly enough to avoid injury, but had
... we been going any faster, it could have caused serious harm. After the incident, both front seatbelts locked, rendering the vehicle unsafe for both the driver and passenger. I later discovered that there are confirmed recalls affecting the passenger airbag system (specifically the front passenger seat weight sensor) for 2020 Honda Civics—my car’s exact make and model—but my VIN does not appear to be included, despite exhibiting the same failure. When I brought the car to a Honda dealership, I was told the recall did not apply and was quoted $10,000 in repairs for the SRS and seatbelt systems. Rather than addressing the potential manufacturing defect, I was instead hounded to trade in the vehicle. I believe this incident reflects a serious safety malfunction tied to an existing recall and deserves investigation. My vehicle may have been improperly excluded from a recall campaign affecting others with identical equipment and model specifications.Read more

Rodents chewed through the main wire harness on my vehicle on 2 separate occasions, both times in the same exact location. This recurring damage poses a serious safety risk and may be linked to soy-based wire coatings that attract rodents. The first incident required a $4,979.27 repair, covered by insurance; I paid a $500 deductible. The vehicle was diagnosed by Boonton Auto Body Shop. I recently
... discovered a second instance of rodent damage in the exact same location, which has not yet been repaired. This led me to investigate further and learn that this may be a common issue in certain vehicles, possibly due to soy-based insulation. I filed a complaint with Kia, but they denied responsibility. The main wire harness is critical to safety systems including braking, steering, engine performance, lighting, and airbags. Although I caught the issue before any accident occurred, undetected damage could lead to serious safety failures while driving. Some may argue the issue is environmental, but I also own a 2012 Toyota Prius, which I own and park in the same location since 2012. That vehicle has never had any rodent damage. This suggests that the problem is not just environmental, but may be due to the design, material based, or placement of the wiring in the Kia. Many consumers are unaware they can report safety-related issues to NHTSA. After being denied by the manufacturer, most are left with high repair costs and no resolution. I am concerned that if consumers remain silent or unaware of this process, Kia will not be held accountable. This is not an isolated case. The repeated, location-specific failure and the manufacturer's refusal to act show a clear pattern of potential design defect. I urge NHTSA to investigate this issue seriously, issue a recall to ensure Kia addresses the problem and protects consumer safety, and require the manufacturer to reimburse affected consumers for repair costs. This issue must be addressed before a serious accident occurs.Read more

I have had multiple issues with this vehicle. After turning off the vehicle the lights remained illuminated and the warning lamps didn’t change, it also continued to beep but I had not choice but to continue on as we were far from home but it left me rattled and nervous of the safety of the vehicle. After the dealership advised us there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and they weren’t sure why the lights and malfunctions displayed. They turned off the lights and the car was fine for another few weeks until it suddenly slammed on the breaks while driving down the road for no reason at all, all the lights and malfunctions begin again as well as the beeping. Luckily there wasn’t a car behind us but we were quite afraid of this breaking issue happening leading to a car accident or worse. We took the car to the dealership again where they told us there “needed to be an update to the software” but it wouldn’t be out until sometime “hopefully” next year but couldn’t guarantee a date and informed us we just needed to bring the car in if it happened again. We questioned the safety and asked for a loaner vehicle due to our fear but were assured the car is safe however I’ve lost count of the number of times the lights have come back on and the car breaks unexpectedly. We’ve returned to the dealership each time and told the vehicle is ok but the warning lights and safety alerts are on again as of today however it no longer beeps.Read more

On [XXX], I was involved in a major accident while driving my 2024 Nissan Altima SV. I was traveling at approximately 20 mph when another vehicle hit my vehicle from front right coming at a speed of not less than 80 mph. The impact was significant enough that it totaled my car. The accident took place near [XXX] . Despite the severity of the collision, none of the airbags deployed—including th

The lack of airbag deployment in a crash of this magnitude presents a serious safety concern and a potential defect in the SRS. The vehicle is still under its original factory warranty, and there were no warning lights or prior faults reported in the airbag system before the crash. This raises serious concerns about the reliability of the vehicle’s safety systems. It is still not yet inspected by Nissan yet. I’m reporting this in the interest of public safety and to urge investigation into the possibility of a defective airbag system in this vehicle. I am also in communication with Nissan, for this. The labor to splice the wires would have been less than an hour.) ------ Safety: The chewed wire apparently disabled the Airbag, Pre Collision, Emergency Automatic Braking, Seatbelt Pre-Tensioning, ABS, and Stability Systems. ----- The dealer confirmed the problem. ----- My insurance adjuster did inspect the harness. ----- I placed electronic rat traps in the vehicle, which killed three rats. ========= NEXT ========= ALL THE SAME WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON A FEW MONTHS LATER! Also, there are two UNSCREENED vents in the trunk area. Other Prius owners covered those openings with 1/4 inch metal wire hardware cloth.
