I am reporting a recurring safety defect in my 2015 Subaru Forester (VIN: [XXX] ) that directly relates to Recall WUM-98 / NHTSA Recall 19V-701 (Occupant Detection System wiring harness). Original Recall (2019–2020): The Occupant Detection System (ODS) failed, disabling the passenger airbag. Subaru performed the recall remedy at that time. Subaru of Lancaster County (PA) initially reported no error, but when I retrieved the car, the warning illuminated immediately. Repair: On August 28, 2025, the dealer replaced the ODS wiring harness at my expense ($440.73). Since then, the issue has not reappeared. Concern: This is the same safety defect already subject to Recall WUM-98. I believe the original recall remedy failed to permanently correct the defect, leaving owners vulnerable to reoccurrence and forcing them to pay out-of-pocket for a known recall-related safety failure. I request NHTSA’s review to determine whether Subaru’s recall remedy is adequate and to ensure owners are not unfairly charged for repeat repairs of the same defect. Insurance adjuster from at-fault party will be performing an assessment of damage this week. The part was ordered from Nissan, when they received the part it was an updated part design which was slightly larger with more pins than the original part and could not be used on my car. They reordered the part from another Nissan retailer ensuring it matched the original part for my car. Now it’s Aug. 27th, 2025. Auto Dynamic received the correct replacement module. Unfortunately the part was replaced and the airbag light came on again. They also stated the seat would have to be replaced in order for the airbag light to go off. For around the same price. It cost me 1800.00 to find this out. * I do not have money to resolve this issue especially if the driver airbag errors next, I am fearful of the unknown driving around with the airbag light on. Took it in for service, and issue could not be duplicated. 2nd time it happened was [XXX]. I had to have the car towed since it would not move when in drive or reverse. Alarms were still going off when it made it to service. They replaced the brake harness. 3rd time happened on [XXX], 3 days after the brake harness was replaced. Towed it to service and they replaced the engine harness. 4th time was on [XXX], 2 weeks after engine harness was replaced. This time there were no audible alarms, just all of the visual ones. Same performance issues as stated before. This issue seems to have happened to several other Hyundai owners as well, as per complaints in Reddit and on Hyundai forums. Just few minutes ago around 5:45 PM, Monday, September 8th 2025. I started my engine with the remote start in my drive way. After about 30 seconds there was a series of 3 or 4 violent explosions each with a 1 or two second interval. The driver side, passenger side and both side air bags deployed fracturing my windshield and causing other potential internal damage to the passenger compartment.

I was wearing my seat belt. There was no intrusion of any foreign object into the cabin of the vehicle. I was not hit on the driver's side of the vehicle. When the side impact airbag deployed it tore open the left side of the t-shirt I was wearing and deposited unreacted airbag propellants on my skin. The unreacted airbag chemicals left me with a what looked to be a minor injury but which soon developed into a very painful chemical burn the size of my fist.
