I am submitting this updated complaint regarding ongoing issues with Safety Recall 69PZ (Passenger Occupant Detection System) on my 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. Despite multiple repair attempts at Gossett Volkswagen in Memphis, TN, the recall remains incomplete, and the vehicle now exhibits additional safety‑system failures that began immediately after dealership service. I purchased the
... vehicle from Gossett Volkswagen and have had all warranty and recall work performed exclusively at this dealership. The first recall attempt occurred on April 20, 2026. The second attempt occurred on April 29, 2026, when the dealership picked up and returned my vehicle; this visit is confirmed by home security footage and text messages, but no repair order was issued. A third attempt on May 4, 2026 was also unsuccessful. On May 8, 2026, the dealership produced a repair order stating “SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED RECALL,” but later acknowledged in writing that the recall was not complete. On May 18, 2026, another repair order inaccurately stated that I “declined” the recall. Immediately after the [XXX] visit, my vehicle displayed new safety‑system errors, including Drivetrain Error, Emergency Assist Error, and Front Assist Error. These issues were not present before the visit and were documented on video. On May 20, 2026, during a recorded call, the Service Manager stated that the dealership would not schedule, diagnose, or repair any issues on my vehicle unless I authorized the recall repair, even though the new defects are unrelated to the recall and should be covered under warranty. He also stated the dealership is a “private company” and can refuse service. As a [XXX] who relies on custom hand controls, these unresolved safety issues and the dealership’s refusal to perform warranty repairs have left me with an unsafe and unreliable vehicle. I am requesting NHTSA’s review of the recall handling, documentation inconsistencies, and the resulting safety concerns. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (Read more

I own a 2024 Chrysler Pacifica with open safety recall FCA 06D / NHTSA 26V-189 for side curtain airbags/ejection mitigation. I contacted the dealer approximately two months ago to schedule the free recall repair. The dealer advised there is a parts delay and the repair is still approximately two more months out. I checked for earlier repair options and was told no dealer can complete it sooner due
... to parts availability. This is a family vehicle used to transport children, and the recall involves side curtain airbags that may not retain sufficient pressure during deployment, increasing risk of injury or ejection. I am requesting NHTSA review because the manufacturer appears unable to provide the safety recall remedy in a timely manner. I am also seeking guidance on whether the vehicle is safe to continue driving and whether alternate transportation should be provided while waiting.Read more

Last week, the airbag warning light illuminated on my dashboard. Please be aware that this marks the fourth occurrence of this issue. Each time I bring the vehicle to the dealership, they provide a different explanation, and I am required to cover the repair costs. I have been informed that the vehicles were manufactured with a defect, causing the wiring harness to corrode at the junction where th
... e temperature sensor connects to the engine, which measures the coolant temperature. Additionally, on two occasions, I was told that the wire had disconnected from the airbag connector. During my most recent visit to the dealership on 5/21/26, I was informed that an item in my glove compartment had dislodged the wire from the passenger side airbag module. This situation is extremely concerning, as it suggests that the wire can easily fall out or become loose from the airbag, given that there is no barrier between the glove compartment and the airbag. It is important to note that this issue arises each time I start the vehicle while it is stationary, and this vehicle has never been involved in an accident nor have the airbags been deployed.Read more

I received a recall notice on 3/19/2026 which stated my 2023 Palisade failed to meet safety standards due to "ejection mitigation." I called Hyundai directly for information after the dealership I purchased the car from had no information for me. Hyundai's customer service representative told me the third row was not safe for occupants and that I should not use it because in a roll over it could
... cause injury or death. She said there haven't been any reported yet but still, don't use it. They did not have a timeframe when it would be fixed. I called my dealership again on 5/20/2026 and asked for any information, compensation, a buyback, or if anything was available to me and they said "we are in the same boat as you. We haven't been able to sell our stock for 4 months. You've only had your notice for 2 months but we've been dealing with this for 4. Some people have been trading their cars in but other than that, there's nothing we can do for you." They said to call Hyundai directly. I called Hyundai and was told there was no information, no remedy, no compensation for the loss of use, no loaner car, or any other options. The representative then said "unfortunately we also cannot escalate your case because there have been no fatalities yet." I'm filing this complaint because it has been over 60 days since I received notice that my vehicle is unsafe, which has resulted in the total loss of use for 3 seats and yet I am still making the full monthly payments on this vehicle to the dealership. And, neither the dealership nor Hyundai is offering any remedy or assistance in any way. I should not have to wait until there is a fatality for Hyundai to act on my vehicles recall and offer some sort or resolution or compensation. I paid full price for the vehicle and should have use of all the vehicle or be given an alternative. Thank youRead more

Same passenger airbag issue as what everyone else is reporting! A recall is needed again for this!
Incident date: Mar 17, 2026
I have had two safety issues with this vehicle where there were system failures that did not record DTC codes. And an additional failure that does not record codes and cannot be duplicated. After leasing the vehicle for seventeen months, and during repair for an unrelated non-safety issue, it was discovered that the steering wheel airbag had a loose connection. No warning appeared at any time on t
... he instrument panels. As well the one pedal function would switch into regular drive mode, as in a gas powered vehicle, randomly. After multiple tries and incidents the dealer service department has been unable to duplicate. Then on March 6 of this year I bought in the vehicle yet again for this one pedal failure, and was notified there was an existing recall. This software update was performed. On March 17, just 11 days after the update, while backing into my garage with the garage door going up the windshield wiper was clipped by the door, destroying both the wiper and shattering the back window. I have backed into my garage thousands of times and never had an issue. Why this happened on this date I do not know. What I do know is that the vehicle gave no warnings and did not break for the object. At the time my dogs were clipped into their seat belt harnesses in the center well. By a miracle no glass shattered beyond the back storage area and I was able to safely remove them. I checked after and all of the collision warning systems were listed as active, including automatic braking for rear collisions. I had the dealership run scans twice and all scans showed no DTC codes and all systems active. I can only assume that all prior updates have failed, and there is a substantial defect to the vehicles ability to communicate. I have a copy of the scan performed. The second scan was run on April 9 because the dealership failed to provide a printed copy of the first. I have that second scan. My vehicle fails to communicate or activate essential information, a safety hazard.Read more

My daughter hit a deer while she was on the interstate, so she had her cruise control set at 72 mph, the deer came up out of the left/median ditch (she was in the left lane at the time). There was no warning as she did not see it at all, so there was an immediate, intense impact, enough where the hood of the car ended up opening up and smashing and coming to rest against the windshield. The Front
... end of the Atlas was HEAVILY damaged and NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED at all! The vehicle's seatbelt did lock up and keep her from slamming into the steering column and windshield and the vehicle's Front Assist Braking system did engage after the impact to slow her down and actually tried pulling her to the side of the road, although, that could be a flaw as well as it assumed that she was in the right lane of the road to begin with, so it pulled her to stop in the middle of the right lane of the Interstate. Thankfully it was late enough in the evening and no other traffic so she was able to figure that out in her post accident confusion and was able to get the car further off the road and call for help. The Atlas had to be towed from the scene. Prior to this incident there has been no issues with any warning lights coming on and we have had all past recalls taken care of through the VW Dealership we bought our VW from, so we assume that they were taken care of properly.Read more

Incident date: Jul 23, 2025
Incident: Frontal collision with a boulder at 30 MPH. 1. Component/System failure & Inspection Availability The primary failure was the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS); the driver’s frontal airbag failed to deploy during a high-energy frontal impact. Additionally, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)—specifically Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW)—faile
... d to provide alerts or initiate emergency braking prior to impact. 2. Safety Risk The failure created a life-threatening risk. Striking a boulder at 30 MPH caused substantial structural damage, requiring total replacement of the front-right and rear-right suspension assemblies. Despite the severity of the impact, the airbag remained dormant. The lack of FCW/LDW intervention meant zero mitigation was provided to prevent the roadway departure or collision, rendering primary safety features non-functional. 3. Confirmation of Problem The fact that the airbags did not deploy was confirmed by independent inspection following the collision. Assessment of the vehicle damage shows that impact forces were clearly sufficient to trigger the SRS, yet the system failed to activate. While ADAS failure is a dynamic event, the total absence of system logs or alerts during the crash sequence confirms the electronic malfunction. 4. Inspections Performed The vehicle was inspected by an insurance adjuster and collision repair professionals. These inspections documented that the impact was severe enough to cause significant mechanical failure, yet no airbag deployment occurred. The manufacturer (Stellantis/Jeep) has not yet performed a formal data download (EDR) or physical inspection. 5. Warning Lamps & Prior Symptoms No warning lamps, SRS/Airbag indicator lights, or "Service" messages appeared prior to the failure. The diagnostic interface indicated all systems were "Normal," pointing to a catastrophic "silent failure" of the sensors or the Steering Column Control Module.Read more

The driver's side air bags, and seatbelt restraint system deployed while the vehicle was stopped without a collision occurring. The doors had not been opened. This occurred February 10, 2026, and the vehicle was taken to the local Subaru dealership for troubleshooting. The local dealership did not find and fault and reported this to Subaru. Subaru sent a technician and reported that a gouge was p
... resent in the door jamb and that this caused the fault which reset. There was no object in the door at the time to cause a problem. This seems unlikely to me as a collision fault should have remained active according to professionals I have spoken with. The safety issue paramount to this event is as follows: If the air bags had deployed while the vehicle was in motion on a highway the sudden and unexpected deployment could have an accident. If a deployment occurs and causes a fatal accident or even an accident with severe injuries, the root cause of the event might not have been diagnosed as in the subsequent crash the air bags would be expected to have deployed. Accidents such as this may have been incorrectly diagnosed and an improper cause attributed. I do not know how widespread this issue may be when it comes to other manufacturers. I do know that common technology and designs are used throughout the automotive industry. The gouge specified looks like it could have been made by a seatbelt that got caught in the door. This would have occurred some months prior to the event. Seatbelts do get caught in doors raising concerns that this is a more widespread issue than is publicly known. I say this because the Subaru technician did not spend much time at the local dealership and left without reporting any findings to the dealership I have been told,Read more

In August 2024, the airbag system in a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan (VIN: [XXX] ) deployed unexpectedly while the vehicle was parked and not in operation. There was no collision, impact, or known external trigger at the time of deployment. The malfunction involved the airbag restraint system and/or related electrical or control components. An unexpected airbag deployment creates a serious safety conc
... ern because it could injure vehicle occupants or bystanders and indicates a potential defect in the restraint system. The vehicle was immediately taken to Banister Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Hampton, Virginia, where it has remained since the incident. To the best of our knowledge, the vehicle has remained in dealership/manufacturer custody and should be available for inspection. The manufacturer indicated they were reviewing the matter and determining the value of the vehicle; however, despite extended time passing, no repair, replacement, or written resolution has been provided. The issue has not been reproduced because the vehicle has remained out of service since the incident. It is UNKNOWN whether the precise cause has been formally confirmed by the manufacturer or dealership. No injuries occurred, but the incident placed the safety of the owners and others at risk because a critical safety restraint system deployed without warning while the vehicle was stationary. Documented NHTSA recalls affecting Dodge Grand Caravan airbag systems and related models demonstrate prior manufacturer awareness of airbag-related safety defects. Although this VIN currently shows no open recall, the spontaneous deployment raises concern regarding unresolved or inadequately corrected airbag system defects. No known warning lamps or dashboard messages were specifically recalled prior to the incident. Any additional warning indicators are UNKNOWN. We keep getting notifications that our 16 yr/old daughters car has an airbag safety recall with communication on it about how "quick" and "easy" it is to have the airbag recall repaired but it is ALL LIES! We have been waiting almost 1 year and the dealerships still can't get a replacement airbag from the manufacturer 's to do said replacement. This is insane and unethical. They are playing with
... people's lives knowing full well that the average consumer can't fix this or just go buy a new car. I want justice!Read more

Description of Incident: The driver, [XXX] , was idling on a road near Lake Murray when her vehicle was rear-ended. Despite the force of the impact requiring Ms. [XXX] to be rushed to the hospital, the vehicle’s airbags failed to deploy. Post-Accident Concerns: Following the collision, the CEO of RideCare had the vehicle moved immediately to avoid public scrutiny. I have reason to believe the
... company is intentionally withholding the vehicle from inspection to prevent the XXX Highway Patrol or safety investigators from accessing the "black box" (Event Data Recorder). The vehicle is currently being stored inside the garage at the RideCare facility off [XXX] . Given that this company is responsible for the safe transport of vulnerable mental health patients, the failure of critical safety equipment and the subsequent attempt to hide evidence is a matter of urgent public safety. I request a formal investigation into the maintenance standards of this fleet and the specific safety failure INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more
